123, however I love Poland's lead work, but in the demo he has a weird like pedal I think.

Friedman=orgasm.

Yeah, Friedman's solos were much better than Poland's. Poland's tone annoyed me anyway.

The intro riff to Holy Wars took me forever to get down. Most stuff on Rust In Peace is pretty complicated to play.

Marty Friedman was by far the best guitarist Deth ever had.

The only weak part of Holy Wars is Mustaine's solo.

Not really, they avoid some songs because Dave's a Christian loser now though.

What songs do they avoid?

The Conjuring and Good Mouring/Black Friday.

Hopefully I get 'The System Has Failed' on Tuesday, I hear it's a return to the golden ages, listened to most of the tracks and I agree, there's a new slant to their music since the golden days though...

Oh man, Im just listening to Megadeth now, until Recently I was all Metallica, then I got the "Rude Awakening" dvd, Im a Convert.

I prefer Friedmans solos, Tornado of souls anyone?

my favourite Megadeth solo, also my favourite Megadeth song, though "Dread and the Fugitive Mind" is growing on me.

I think a couple of the demo versions on CTE (Symphony of Destruction and Psychotron) are both better than the proper studio versions. Even tho I don't like psychotron that much, the demo is pretty cool. And the second solo on symphony of destruction demo version is quality (they also play it live with the second solo.)

Megadeth setlist, Blackmail The Universe, Set The World Afire, Skin Of My Teeth, The Scorpion, Wake Up Dead, In My Darkest Hour, Die Dead Enough, She Wolf, Reckoning Day, A Tout La Monde, Trust, Angry Again, Hanger 18, Sweating Bullets, Tornado of Souls, Kick The Chair, Symphony of Destruction, Peace Sells, , Encore: Holy Wars....The Punishment Due

FlyingPaul_83
08-22-2005, 03:57 PM
lets see...........this is what I knew they played in no particular order

blackmail the universe
die dead enough
the scorpion
kick the chair
In my darkest hour
A tout le monde
wake up dead
peace sells
hangar 18
tornado of souls
holy wars
symphony of destruction
sweating bullets
skin o my teeth
angry again

this is what I think they played:
hook in mouth or 99 ways to die (the intro sounds the same so I'm not sure)
a song from KIMB

I was suprised that they played a lot of stuff from TSHF, I liked it a lot. I thought they would play mostly old stuff.

She-Wolf
IMDH
Skin O' My Teeth
Wake up Dead
Trust

I have a bootleg from 1995-05-22 in Osaka, Japan, and I also have a DVDR of them live in Chile sometime in '95 as well as a few misc TV appearences after Youth was released as well as Night of the Living Megadeth, which was an MTV special that was done on Halloween night 94, which I believe is when Youth was released. The Osaka bootleg is 121MB and the DVDR is..well...4.4GB. I could encode it to 700MB XviD but it'd take ~6 hours to upload.

I really like the new album The System Has Failed.

I got it a few months after it came out and it is one of the albums I listen to most.

I particularly liked kick the chair, but Blackmail the Universe is pretty cool too.

Damn, is dave a riff master or what? Kinda funny, I've noticed that a lot of those songs are in E minor with the exception of course Shadow of Deth.

I heard a rumor that Ellefson (probably not spelled right) sued Dave and the Band for not (supposedly) getting his fair share of the profits of that album. The rumor pretty much goes along the lines of Ellefson losing.

Comments?

That is true, somewhat. Ellefson deserved no profit from The System Has Failed and wasn't arguing for that, he was arguing that he didn't receive enough profits while he was in Megadeth. Ellefson also did not lose the case, the case was just dropped and now Dave is countersuing Junior because of something dealing with contract breaches.

Also I believe Tears In A Vial is in A, but most all Megadeth songs are in E anyways (especially Youthanasia)

The way Marty solos stuff is weird, in videos he kind of half sweeps/half finger picks things. His work with Jason Becker in Cacophony was amazing though.

Megadeth **** me.

Why?

Their riffs and solos are great. Their lyrics are not wince-inducing (like Manowar) and have the potential to be an awesome band. However, whatever the **** Dave is doing with his voice is WRONG and he should stop it RIGHT ****ING NOW.

Yeah, Mustaine's voice really suits the music. I dunno, everyone I know reckons it's horrible, and Mustaine can't sing for **** etc. But he can hold a note (Example Back in The Day first solo) and meh, I've just kinda grown to like it.

Metallica and Megadeth would be an awesome show, especially if they added Slayer to that show aswell. But I'm sure there'd be fan-boy disputes and ruin the atmosphere. That was the set at the House of Blues show in AC tonight. It owned majorly, except the mixing guy messed up and you couldn't really hear the vocals for any of the bands.

I got there at about 6:30, which was about 3/4s of the way through Dillenger's set. I think they played maybe 2 more songs after I got there, and then Fear Factory tore it up for their slot. Then Dream Theater came on and hot ****, it was great. Then the mighty Megadeth, complete with James MacDonahugh's red ESP bass for most of the set and strobe lights in the place of pyro. Show ended at about 11:50.

The ought to get Slayer, Anthrax, Metallica, and Megadeth to headline some "Return of the Thrash Tour" or something along the lines of that, and so no feelings are hurt about who opens up and closes the show, the bands rotate for each different show, so everyone gets a chance to go. I still haven't seen Megadeth live...that makes me sad.

He better make up for it with an awesome solo career.

I'm pretty sure that being booted from 'Tallica and forming Deth is almost a solo career in itself.

Well, Megadeth is basically Megadave, he's the only original member and he writes most of the songs himself.

Well its only been like a solo career since they came back. It never was before 2002.

Kreator's sweet. Can't stop listening to Violent Revolution recently.
I only listen to Kreator when I'm mad. But everytime I do I like them a little more.

Yea before 2002 David ellefson did a fair amount of writing and before Marty and Nick were kicked out/left they wrote a decent amount of stuff too, so it wasnt always just Dave.

But most of the great songs are written just by him.

Not necesarily, Dave Ellefson wrote some of Tornado Of Souls and Lucretia. The entire band wrote Ashes In Your Mouth, and the entire band wrote all of Youthanasia.

Like with most bands, there was a main songwriter, that was Dave in Megadeth. But the other members did contribute to the writing process.

What does anyone think what would have happened if any one of the line-ups stayed together for the entire duration of the band? (For example, Dave, Jr., Marty, and Nick from KIMB to TSHF).

It would have started with the best metal band ever and ended with some crazy pop-metal poser band.

Yeah, probably.

Better question, what if Dimebag and Vinnie had joined up instead of Marty and Nick when they were asked?

That would've been weird, I like dimebag, but He doesn't seem to fit megadeth. I don't think I would like it as much as marty and nick.

Me either... because I don't really like Pantera much outside of CFH.

I don't know, I think you'd get RIP at half the speed with a million harmonics, nothing wrong with Pantera but I <3 RIP.

I prefer Vinnie's Drumming, but Dime's shred style would have been in total contrast with Marty or Chris. To be honest, I think it would have been cool, with the two entirely different tones and styles with the guitars.

Also, Dime is synonymous with Drop D in my mind. Wonder how that would have worked out.

I prefer Menza over Vinnie Paul. I don't think people realize how good Menza was during Rust.

No one would know that it was a Megadeth thread though. It should be Shadow of Deth or something like that, or something a little more obvious.

They would just have to read the first page of the thread and it would be fairly obvious what the thread was about.

The thread name for Megadeth could be: "The Arsenal of Megadeth"

Can someone upload Mechanix? I've heard its way better than The Four Horsemen, and I'd like to compare.

Thread 18 would definitely be the best thread name. If people haven't heard Hangar 18, they shouldn't even be in the thread anyway, so its perfect.

Then if it gets closed, we can have 'Return to Thread' :D

As far as i remember Dave only wanted Dime and Dime wouldnt join unless vinnie was allowed too as well so it didnt work out.

I can't imagine Dime and Vinnie on RIP. It just wouldn't work. I could imagine them on something like Countdown though...
