The solos for Hangar 18 are hard as hell. **** you Marty!

Has anyone ever tried the tremolo solo on hangar 18? It sounds tough, i ma be able to do it, but it will be all crappy, im gonna go try it.

So...today I found out that if Gigantour comes close enough to me, my Dad will drive me and one of my friends to it. I just have a couple of questions, seeing as how it has more than one stage, would that mean that the crowd area would be just one big mosh pit (one for each stage), or would there be some seats available? Or, would this depend on the venue? If the giant mosh pit is the scenario, would any of you with experience be able to tell me some tips for "moshing" ? I am 18 years old, 6'2, 185 pounds and such. I just don't want to be killed in the mosh pit, because that is the only thing stopping me from going to see my favorite band of all time!! Sorry if this post didn't make much sense :(.

I was cruising the Gigantour site and noticed how many of the other bands fans are there. This is going to be very kewl because I believe you will meet and make new friends or get some good sparring in. I personally hope the former.

I have also confirmed another band for the Stage 2 and that announcement will come later today. I am also thinking about adding another band to each stage, which could mean moving someone from Stage 2 to Stage 1, and I also have my sight on a really kewl new school band that does old school metal (actually two), and a veteran act for Stage 2.

Stay tuned, its gonna get real busy here before we leave for Europe on Monday morning. We are going to change our set list up for this summer (we have to in some places because we have less time than when we headline) and I think you will be surprised because they are some older songs. And I can't wait to see all of you awesome Droogies and She-Wolves again real soon.

Well just say someone does rhythm guitar, they can send you the file and you can record drums over it, then you send it to the person doing lead or whatever. You can just send it to them through e-mail or something, or put it on http://www.yousendit.com.

I'm not sure. I'd need something generous to learn a Megadeth song from scratch anyway, a few days probably, without a big run at it (exam time next week). I think we'll have enough time though, I don't think the other threads are doing too well in this stage either.

MAthiAS
06-10-2005, 10:41 PM
The funny thing is the mids were already fairly scooped. I definitely need to turn the bass down some though, you're right about that. The bass kind of breaks up the recording. Course, its not going to be great quality considering my setup, unless I can record at my drummer's place. That might not be possible for a while though.

Thanks for the feedback guys.

Apocalyptic Raids

Metallogy
06-10-2005, 11:19 PM
I suggest trying the DS – 1 Distortion Pedal by Boss, it can provide a great range of tones, especially for thrash metal and when you’re playing through a tube amp it’s great as a pre-amp.

It’s not that toneless fuzz distortion that takes away musically like many pedals a la Metal Zone. The tone know on it will allow u to boost your treble or bass cutting the other end of the EQ ranging from many different tones. Just try it out at a music shop, and it’s a steal for 70$, you can do so much with this pedal.

Also I’m seeing Megadeth on the Gigantour! I can’t fcuking wait! Anyone else going?

Mustaine uses a tone with lots of mids, so if that helps, that's good.

On another note, good news and bad news:

Good News: I now have the adapter to record, so no problems there.

Bad News: My pick skills are in disarray and TNP is harder than anticipated. I'm pulling double duty with Opeth, and they have the higher priority. So.....my bass tracks will be up on Wendesday or Thursday.

EDIT: I would download that recording Mathias, but I'm on dialup, and that file is pretty big. Could you compress it or something.

Much appreciated.

Face in the Sky said he could do the bass parts, so if that's going to be a problem for you, you could pass it off to him.

Yeah, there are a couple sloppy spots, I might try to clean it up some more, especially the second part of the solo. But if someone records other parts on there I can live with it.

I'm starting to record Holy Wars tonight too, I'll probably have a recording up either tonight or tomorrow. I had one recording where I nailed Mustaine's solo, but tried to improvise Marty's clean one and failed miserably

Okay, two ideas to throw some different spins on these songs.

Ok did they play the song "Black Sabbath" by Black Sabbath when they were coming out? Because they did at the one i went to. I'm just curious.

I don't remember exactly. I'm pretty sure the song on the PA right before they came out was either Run to the Hills or Pretty Vacant. I don't remember what was played while they came out.

Edit: I'm looking at the tab for Back in the Day now, this song is pretty straightforward, so I should be able to learn it pretty fast. I'm still deciding if I want to learn the solos or improv them.

When I saw them, they played both Run To The Hills and The Number Of The Beast (On the PA, that is)

try to learn the solos first, if you can't nail em right, then try to improvise. :)

BTW, does anyone know anything about Mustaine's signature SD pickup?

MAthiAS

He uses JBs, I don't think he has a signature, unless its brand new...

That's my point exactly, they started developing one for him back in December 04. But there has been no updates since

Nope, I think they're 10-52, and my guitar is set up for 10-46. Maybe when I get it set up next (its actually overdue now), I will.

Here's my rough Holy Wars, in mp3 format and correct timing.

Marty's bends in the actual song sound pretty off to me.

Yeah I think Set The World Afire would be cool to do. Mathias you should also do the solo rhythms. By the way how long have you been playing?

Five Magics would probably be a July project, I don't know it yet, but I finish school next week so I'll have time to. Maybe I'll start learning it tomorrow, I've got a half day and might even just take the day off. Same deal with Friday. I think Five Magics would easily be the most impressive of the songs we're talking about.

Okay, two ideas to throw some different spins on these songs.
1. Turn the clean Holy Wars solo into a bass solo, because I'm feeling too lazy to learn it :p
2. Get multiple singers to lay down tracks for Back in the Day, from this thread and the thrash thread, like Deth did live.

I've always wondered, is the acoustic solo by Marty the acoustic part at 2:15 until 2:25? I never noticed that. rofl

Something is wrong with my computer or Audacity or something, I can't overdub without seriously ****ing up the recording. It gets this weird effect, almost like tremolo, but it just cuts up the recording. I'll post an example of what I mean later. The same thing happens if I try to play back something in Audacity, without exporting it to WMD.

My time playing has been a little weird. I first picked up an acoustic guitar at 6 years old, but only over the last year/year and a half have I really started taking guitar seriously and improving. I think it was around that time that I got my first good teacher.

seeing as you use Audacity as well, is it possible to edit just vocals or guitars or drums or bass on their own? (if you're editing a complete song)

RustedPieces
06-14-2005, 05:12 PM
No. If its saved as an MP3 then the vocal tracks, guitar tracks, and everything else gets mixed into one thing so you can't edit them seperatly.

MAthiAS

But you could send it as a .aup file and do it.
