I've listened to a lot of bands and I have to say thats is fairly original, having a drummer and then two back up drummer people, hmmmmmm. When you say Bass oriented do you mean they play bass and hit snares and things. Or they have just a bass drum, a snare and a few chimes, while this Joey guy has all the Toms, and bass drums and the stuff

hmmm...no...not per say...they just play a more low end version of the drums...

joey plays all parts...hell...joeys kit is monsterous (sp?) double bass beast...which i love...

but songs like (sic)....really show their talent together, the trio of them :)...

in there earlie days they were all drummers ( shawn, joey and chris )

as for that...joey has always been the drummer...shawn was customs percussions and backing vocals....

chris on the other hand didnt join til later...im not exactly sure...between MFKR and their self titled...

before him and corey on vocals...anders colsefni used to do custom percussions also...the song "windows" really is a good showcase for it...

Okay. I made a thread when I first started about Slipknot because I did not see this. People got pissed.....I really don't know why...but oh well. This is my question. I know I'm not and the music has no effect on my religion....but do people automatically assume just because of the music l listen to? Will you please help we with this? Thank you.

Anyone who thinks you're a Satanist because you listen to Slipknot doesn't really know Slipknot. Sure, they've had some of the imagery, and even have "The Heretic Anthem"...but Slipknot have said more than once, they aren't Satanists...and if you even watch the beginning of Disasterpieces, you can see Joey, knelt on one knee, praying, before they go out and play.

The only reason you think that is because if anyone gives Corey Taylor a say in an interview he spouts his mouth off uncontrollably.

I should sticky a thread that just says this (I've said at least 20 times):

The reason they wear masks is because one day Shawn brought a clown mask to practice for ****s, probably to try and be funny. Shawn realized it was much easier to play behind a mask because instead of looking at Shawn and him playing, you look at a clown, and when you realize that you're a little less nervous. The other members caught on and soon they were doing shows in all sorts of costumes. They all soon picked their own masks and that's how it's been ever since.

Corey and the others stuck to the story of "emotions" and BS because it sounded a lot better than "Uh...we play better at shows with them because...**** I don't know".

I wasn't really into Slipknot at all untill this year when i seen them at the Big Day Out (Aussie Festival) in January. The show i seen was amazing and have loved their stuff since. Don't just say "Oh, I know it's a gimmick, it's obvious". Give a reason why it is. I gave the true story behind it. Prove it wrong or just admit you were quick to judge and be mature.

Alright cause that was the first impression of the band, that they needed a catch to sell there music and attract a crowd, and Slipknots best reason for there idea according to you, sliptallica essey man, is that "duhhhh, we play better with them" I'm not saying there bad or anything but I think there image is kinda gimicy don't like loose your pants over it man just giving my opinion.

If you didn't expect someone to argue back, you shouldn't have said anything.

My point is the original idea behind the masks wasn't so people will buy there stuff. It just turned out that some idiot kids thought that they were a good reason and it turned out that way.

I have a big hunch by the next time they hit the recording studio, they wont have masks on anymore. There new style doesn't seem right with the masks. It did with the Nu-metal material though.

mick and james both have talent but they especially dont show it in slipknot. thats for d*** sure. joey has good rhthym when it comes to drums. but as for the rest of them they have no talent which interferes w/ joey, mick, and james. thats why alot of people dont like slipknot because they produce the same sound. every slipknot album is the same. i believe mick, james, and joey should form their own band and then they might have something otherwise they wont amount to nothing.

How can I say that and defend it, like this. All Mick and James do is is play the same chords over and over, with in similoar time. With the exception of some songs like Surfacing, and with the exception of there few solos. They have 4 members with almost no purpose, Clown and Shawn do nothing apart from a few backing vocals, and one drummer is enough. They also have that mixer who you can only hear on The Heretic Anthem and one or two other songs. They also have two bassists, WHAT THE ****? You can't even hear them except for maybe a few notes in some songs. I'll talk about Joey in the next paragraph.

As promised I will now talk about Joey. Joey is an ok drummer. He does a good job at using his double bass pedal, but he nowhere nears the drumming of many other drummers. He does have many great atributes, but he doesn't really show it in his drumming. Many times people have shown me the clip of him on the Disasterpieces DVD during his drum solo. He does the same thing over and over again, he does that very well, but he does not do reallly anthing else. I understand that he was flipped upside down, but he does not change what he is doing at all.

I do like Slipknot, but to say that they are an extremely talented band is crazy. I do think that they have some talent, but simply do not show it in Slipknot. And if you want anyone to take you serious, then spell and punctuate correctly.

Slipknot needs some new happenings. This thread has gotten awfully repetitive and awfully stupid. Some douchebag comes in and says something negative, followed by half hearted retorts from some other people, which is soon followed by a lame discussion on whether Slipknot has talent or not.

The guys in Slipknot CAN play their instruments. The reason you dont see Paul do any MFKR stuff or you dont see Jim and Mick play ten of the most technical but most unmemorable guitar riffs per song is because Slipknot's credo is not built around being a technical band.Slipknot is about just writing simple tunes that are to the point and grab attention. They do just that.Vol.3 is filled with good song after good song.Anyone who denies that is obviously a ****in dickhead.

Another thing that has begun to annoy me is how you constantly have to remind yourself and others that Joey is not the greatest drummer in the world when you discuss him.Joey is a very good drummer, just leave it at that.No need for the "oh joey is good but hes not the best, there are so many way better than him" and yadda yadda yadda.Joey rules at the drums.Simple as that.I dont need to list off other drummers who are better or possibly better just to evade sounding like a little maggot fanboy. But who cares if I do.

Some people are douchebags no doubt.

Joey is a great drummer. Nobody ever said he is the best, but they just have to point out, "But there are better drummers out there." NO **** YOU IDIOTS!!!! Most average drummers can't or have hard time playing joey's beats. And that doesn't mean there aren't drummer that can play his beats, because there are plenty of them obviously.

They have 1 bassist as it's been pointed out. Somebody in this thread doesn't know **** about slipknot, but they are claiming as the band is untalented. How can you claim such a thing if you think they have 2 bassists?

I agree with relliK about everything in his post.

If you don't like the thread then don't post in it and call people douchebags for doing just that.

He called people a douchebag because they claim slipknot is untalented, but yet they dont even know how many bassists/guitarists/drummers/vocalists they have.

IYou're an idiot. I know that they play not so technical songs, I was just saying that they don't play hard amazing riffs. Also, just so someone doesn't like Slipknot's music which a lot of people don't they are dickheads.

Why does a band have to play hard amazing riffs to sound good? Souding good has nothing to do with how hard or heavy riffs are.

Joey is an ok drummer. He is not amazing, or anywhere close to that. And I'm not a maggot fanboy, if I was then I would be saying how awesome Mick, Joey, Jim, and Paul, Chris, and Clown and the rest of the band were.

An Ok drummer is the one that is average. Find me an average drummer that can nail joey's beats perfectly and your statement will be somewhat true. If you are a drummer, haha, well let's see you do some slipknot's beats.

Hey I recently borrowed IOWA from My friend, and had a listen to it,
Now What was good about the album is, the music is good, good guitar playing, the drummer and the percussionists are in time perfectly with each other, and the lyrics are good and the songs have meanings,

What I Thought was bad about the album is THe bass can't be heard, so they might as well not have a bass player, most of the songs if not all of them start with a guitar intro. And the songs, I feel anyway would be a lot better if Corey didn't scream,

Now this is all that I've heard of SlipKnot, apart form the album only duality and Vermillion 1 & 2. But after hearing all those songs, I realised that it couldn't all be like that , and that surely some of the albums have changed and the band have excelled or not, and whether they have got better or worse

All songs he listed have good melodical chorus' while most of those you listed dont. When I first heard slipknot, I seriously thought they weren't for me until I heard wait and bleed and vermillion. Now I like sic, people=****, spit it out, etc..

Yeah Vol3 isn't bad. I like how they're trying new stuff (acoustic work, soloing). I don't like their older stuff, its too bland. To me its basically just bland nu-metal material, but in subliminal you can hear that they're progressing, and who knows, in 4 or 5 years, they might have a completely new sound.

the lyrics in Vol3 make me question why i hear so many people lable them as death metal, when they're blatantly agressive nu-metal.

Those people don't know any better. Also, the use of the word agressive is not needed, as metal is generally deemed to be an agressive style of music.

In the Blister Exists and a couple of other songs show that Mick isn't bad at guitar. Also in Total Guitar they have done a lot of great shredding and playing exercises so my question is: if they have so much talent why the hell don't they ever do any technical playing at all? Actually, an interview with Mick Thompson contradicts that statement, where he claims that they took out lots of parts from their songs in order to make it more accessable to the masses, because their manager told them to.
