Nah, most of the Death Metal drummers I hear are better than him.
Not that he sucks or something, just he's not as good as some of the DM drummers.
/my opinion
Well he dosent really do blast beats. Hes more of a speed drummer, you know what I mean? I have heard some incredible Death Metal drummers too.

Joey is a good drummer. Not a God by any means, however. He isn't as fast as you think. Lots of his ever so famous "furious fills" are basically the same thing every time.

can anyone help me out with some MFKR wav files.
WAV prefered, but MP3 is ok, i can crossfade and upgrade for cd burning purposes.
Thank you to anyone who can. adamjones_god@yahoo.com

IMO i love Joey's solos and fills,
Well as long as you just like them and don't say "OMG j03Y r t3h #1 drUm/\/\3r 3v3r!!!!11", people won't flame you. Try and keep it that way.

Who wrote the songs on Vol 3?
All of them, most likely.
In the Iowa guitar book, every member but Craig is credited with writing every song...I would imagine it's the same this time, although, honestly, with the work Craig did on this album, I wouldn't be surprised if he WAS credited with it.

Joey is my favorite guy in Slipknot simply because he is really the only player who is above average at his instrument in the band. although Mick and Jim are finally starting to show that they can shred too. and i think Pauls old bass lines are great, but Joey is the best talent in the band IMO.

Yea Joey is surely not the best drummer but i dont think theres anything wrong by seeing him as your fav drummer. He have somewhat of a unique style and nice speed imo, but yea he's not the best :(

Some videos i've seen aren't great, but Disasterpiece is awesome. I'd reccomend any doubters to check it out.
I saw them yesterday for the 3rd time, and it was the best time that I've seen them.
Amazing show.

In Flames isnt all that special live either. I love Slipknot, i always have. if you started liking slipknot in their earlier MFKR-S/t days, the masks just sort of grow on you, not that they make up the band, but it sets them apart, you focus on the music rather than if 13year old girls think theyre "lYke OmGZzz So0o0 tEh hoTzZ". word of advice to slipknot would be: Keep the masks, so the melodic ***** shi.t and cry about that on your own time. Sid Wilson or Mick would probably be my favourite members.

Well im sorry i make you "laughter". I absolutely LOVE In Flames, i havent seen them live but i have 3 or 4 full concerts on the comp, and its just not quality stuff. The vocals are not very good and the guitars can barely be heard over the drums. not to get off topic...

hahaha....they have two percussionists...clown (shawn) and chris...
im not sure why, but with them, it does give a better effect to it...kind of helps forms joeys back bone (which is a kickass drummer)...

Mmm just a thought but it would be pretty cool if slipknot repraced their 'mask' masks with their 'death' masks, as they look cooler in most cases (esp in the vermillion preformance at TMF awards)+ there wouldnt be all that crap about wereing masks because the masks are of their faces. bit like KISS except with paint...

To the guy who made the comment about Joey. He's overrated because he's mainstream, but he is very good. I was watching one of the Slipknot DVD's (not sure how many they have tho... ) and he is easily one of the best metal drummers since the 80's.
On a different note - My ex-gf was reading a magazine, and Slipknot are talking about breaking up again, because Corey is once again losing his voice. It will be a sad day if they break up again.

naw...its not from the crowz recordings...those are from 97, after MFKR...
1. Slipknot / Gently
2. Me Inside
3. Unreleased/No Name
4. Windows (Unreleased)
5. Spit it Out
6. Carve (Unreleased)
7. Only One
8. Scissors
but out of those...only four were leaked from those recordings: slipknot/gently, me inside, only one, and prothestics (was renamed)
there are live versions of windows and carve...they are from rare videos of '96
but the recordings i was talking about was from 1992...they are called "The Basement Recordings"...it consist of two tapes...9 songs in total...which alot of them are just practices it seems like...
tape one contains:
Slipknot (early version)
Idiot (extended version)
Gently (the genesis track)
Wise Up Construction
Wise Up Construction 2
tape two has:
Gently
Idiot
Slipknot

Slipknot are awesome, but i've moved away from them, i don't listen to them as much any more, for me, their latest album was a dissapointment, it was a change in their style of music which to me, makes COREY not the band, it makes corey a sellout. I only say this because all of slipknot say stuff like "corey was a real drive for us this time around".
Can someone please explain to me how Slipknot sold out on Vol 3??

Slipknot is well on their way to being one of the greats of heavy metal! Their musical direction is logical one. Hey they brought Extreme metal to the mainstream. now its time to show off their abilities. I think they have a lot of great things in store for us. If not, there is allways stone sour.

Do nothing bitchslap is amazing.
Mate feed kill repeat is real freaky my best song would be tattered and torn off mate feed kill repeat (their first album)
but nowadays i'm not liking joey on drums. Everyone says he's amazing and i agree he has good talent but he cannot keep a rhythm at all.
It's my personal preferance but i think they should give shawn a drum set to keep a rhythm whilst joey does his "lead drumming" or whatever it is. And chris keeps up the weird percussion n backing vocals.
The guitar sucks though n there is no denying that.
My best member is Sid or Craig because slipknot without the sampling or Dj would be average loons wearin masks.
But i prefer grindcore so what am i on about??? :thumb:

I would. A few years ago, I wanted them to drop the whole masks gimmick and become a 'normal' band, so that the 13 year old kids would stop listening to them. These days, I reckon that they should wear the masks ONLY if they wanted to. They could even wear them on a casual basis.

I like Slipknot. But what I don't like is when stupid people call them "Da Knot" or "The Knot."
What would be best for them though would be to drop the Nu-Metal influences and change over to a metalcore band, like Chimaira did.

Yeah, double bass is in a good amount of nu-metal bands. That statement was just false.
The use of Linkin Park to define Nu-Metal these days is really irritating me. They are only Nu-Metal because they have a huge Hip-hop influence, and the nu-metal style riffs. The things like Primal Aggresion are missing.

Not what I meant.Metalcore is the hot thing right now, and for Slipknot to make the switch to it just to stay afloat would be selling out.Unless of coarse they were influenced by the whole metalcore scene artistically, and felt compelled to take their music towards that direction.
Britney Spears making Black Metal obviously wouldnt help her earn any cash, so no it would not be selling out.Artistically, she has fat bald old white men that write her music for her, so its not like she's an artist to begin with.

He sounds messy, really messy in the dvd.
BTW< letmypeopleho< you are being sarcastic about Joey being ugly right? If you aren't then: aren't you acting like a pop fan then? Would you prefer a boyband or something? The point of music (metal and the such) is about the music rather than the image behind the music.

Yep, majority rules Purity is the best Slipknot song.

Both Mick and Jim are extremely underrated since everyone takes their skill from the slipknot riffs. But if you listened to them just jam, oh dude. They both can pull off some crazy stuff. Mick's warm-up involves fast arpeggios up and down the neck
What I think is that slipknot critics don't understand that control and good dual guitar work is more important than soloing, Mick has the speed and James has the control, making for a kick *** duo. :thumb:

Well it's unreleased on the new versions of the self titled album, but it was originally on the album when it first came out. Now you can't get it without getting illegally or listening to it on the DVD.

Some people say that Mich's (and James') guitar playing is simple?
I may be the only person who thinks this, but i think simple stuff is usually the best anyway. i mean duality is relatively simple but i think it is a kick *** song. The choruses off some of the vol. 3 songs could be described as simple but i think it takes talent to make up such riffs that SOUND excellent and are simple.
I like the whole of their new album and think that they have really shown themselves to be musicians. :)

So, do we have a guitarist, a vocalist, and a bassist in here? It'd be fun to do a cover for the Thread Competition.

I wouldn't go so far as to say he is great, but he does lay down some cool riffs and occasionally plays a pretty entertaining solo.
Kerry King, Zakk Wylde, and James Murphy have all said Mick was a "great" guitar player. There's probably more metal musicians who have given him praise, but thats all I know of.

Mick originally had guitar solos written in early songs like (SiC) but they were later taken out. he is a better guitar player than most people think.

Mick wasn't in the band during the writing or recording preocess of Slipknot's s/t. They had another guitarist(forgot his name), who left the band soon after they finished recording.

Actually, I'm pretty sure it was Jim who wasn't there during the recording. It's been a long time since I've read up on that stuff though. There could be a book of their line-up changes and it'd pwn Webster's Dictionary in size.

I'd say Godsmack is more mainstream and popular than Slipknot.
I mean in terms of sales for albums and airplay on the radio, cause Duality is the only song I've ever heard, and Godsmack I think is still going strong, so Slipknot isn't the only nu-metal band still standing.

I think if you are born your popular in Japan.
But yea Godsmack is nu-metal, but with their last albums Faceless and Otherside, I think they are drifting into Mainstream Rock, but their roots are no doubt nu-metal.

Sorry but I have to say, how the hell can you like these guys, i mean; There are 9 of them in the band, and they wear silly masks all for this stage prescense, and I'l admit that its original and they have an original sound, but I find all this stuff really tedious,
Don't ypu people get scared by these maniacs, when you go to the concerts they make you pary to them and beat the crap out of each other,
AS for the band itself, 9 members is far, far, too much, they have about 4 guitarists, that's too many, Yestaday, I watched the Video to Duality; and there were only 5 members of the band playing, i dont know were the rest where and the clown was hittin stuff, with a bat, If they are gonna be on of the greatest bands ever, (WHich I'll amit they probably will) THey need to fire some people, thre are talented musicians in SLipknot that are goin to waste, and could vbe using their ability to the fullest in other bands

first off...they only have two guitarist...
and what is wrong with being tedious...thats what makes them great...its hard as hell getting 9 people together to perform in unison like that for this genre of music...
as for the beating the **** out of each other...they don't...sid, the DJ used to get infights with with shawn, clown...but those days really are over...
and as for the duality vid...chris and shawn really dont that many beats to the song...
then there is sid and craig...you cant really be expecting to see any theatrical playing from the samples tech and dj as seeing the type of equipment that they use

they are more bass oriented...
to me, they help pull alot of their songs together...they form a second back bone to joeys playing

some songs like 'Vermillion' showcase more of the custom percussion drumming. there is not a lot of songs were they have extensive parts though, but they also do backing vocals.

I've listened to a lot of bands and I have to say thats is fairly original, having a drummer and then two back up drummer people, hmmmmmm. When you say Bass oriented do you mean they play bass and hit snares and things. Or they have just a bass drum, a snare and a few chimes, while this Joey guy has all the Toms, and bass drums and the stuff
