Wow you are really clever, and these were your first two posts!!! well that will probably get you banned hahahaha idiot!!!

Lol. That is pretty funny. You don't go to a Slipknot thread and then say "Slipknot can suck my dick because thats how gay they are." That is just asking to get banned.

Yeah. COF and those other bands are truly differen't. Not that I don't like them, just I wouldn't say the sound alike or belong under the same category.

WTF does band's clothing gear have anything to do with selling out? Almost every band out there has their own clothing gear.

Almost every band has there own clothing. Shoes are no differen't then a shirt.

The JoZ
03-02-2005, 12:09 AM
Clothing has nothing to do with 'selling out'.

Generally, I thought the concept of selling out dealt with a band's music, and how they sound. If Slipknot changed the kind of music they were writing to appease the label, or to gain more fans or whatever, that would be selling out...or if they specifically said they didn't ever want to have any merchandise with their logos on it, and then changed their mind...maybe that would apply.

But simply having gear with your name on it doesn't constitute selling out. It's called 'promotion', and Slipknot, like many good bands, have utilized it well.

That being said, I wouldn't be caught dead wearing those shoes, but someone would, I bet

Bartender
03-02-2005, 12:21 AM
To my mind, selling out is doing something you very clearly said you wouldn't, usually for some monetary renumeration, or at least the want of such (case in point; Metallica), or else very notably changing your sound for the want of commercial success.

So, having clothing, etc, shouldn't necessarily be seen as selling out, unless it goes against former principles. It could be seen as just being whores (or whatever :)) in general, from a standpoint independent of the concept of selling out. For example, I always thought the Slipknot lunchbox was a step too far.

How can a person know if a band didn't and doesn't like playing the music? How do we know they didn't just change because they were tired of old music and went for something new?

To my understanding, it's impossible for a person (public audience) to know if a band sold out or not. Unless the band actually says they hate playing current music but they will because they need money. Or something like that.

BTW, tonight slipknot performed Before I forget. Pretty good. Saw Mick's new ibanez.

Well with some of the best new age metal bands together, you have to expect a great show. If only they had Mastodon and System of a Down, then the tour would be completely perfect.

It pisses me off sometimes when people say "they suck" or "all they do is yell and swear" because they don't really look deep inside the lyrics to understand where they are coming from. All I want to say is keep an open mind about music because you may miss their message.

Wellll I just got home from our leg of the Subliminal Verses tour. Sorry, but this concert was better than Metallica and Godsmack without a doubt :D

All That Remains opened up...they played, I dunno, 5 or 6 songs...none of which I know the names to...well, they played one that's got a video on Launch, but the name escapes me right now. Short set, but good.

Shadows Fall was up next, and things got busted wide open, including my mouth...ok that's a bit of an overstatement, but I did bleed from my tongue a bit after getting smacked around in a pit during "The Power of I and I". Their setlist included "The Power of I and I", "Inspiration on Demand", "Enlightened by the Cold", "Destroyer of the Senses", two or three other songs I don't remember, and they closed with "What Drives The Weak". Very good show, Brian was very energetic on stage...he spun around often, and with his dreads, looked like a freaking helicopter was about to take off.

Lamb of God was up next, and they definetly tore the house down, breaking right out with "Laid to Rest", followed by "Hourglass". Randy definetly took a little time out to remind us that they were basically home (Since this concert was in Hampton, VA, and they are from Richmond). They also played "Now You've Got Something To Die For"...several other older songs...and closed out with "Black Label". No Wall of Death, but there was a pretty big pit going.

Slipknot came on, and if the roof hadn't been blown off yet, they sure did it. "Prelude 3.0" played over the PA before they ripped into "The Blister Exists" for an opening track. I honestly don't really remember much of their track order, because I was occupied (see side note at the end) but I know they played a varied, and very good set...including, in no particular order, "Before I Forget", "Vermilion", "Duality", "Get This", "Disasterpiece", "The Heretic Anthem", "Left Behind", "Liberate", "Pulse of the Maggots", "The Nameless", "Spit It Out" (complete with patented Jump the f*ck up section), "Wait and Bleed" (complete with crowd singing of opening chorus, with Paul conducting), "Everything Ends" and of course, they ended with "Surfacing". I don't really think anyone could've asked them for a better set...they played old stuff, new stuff, and all of it was great stuff. I'm very glad I got to see them. I have to hand it to Chris though...as most probably know, Shawn isn't part of the tour anymore so he could be with his wife who's ill...so Chris had to go it alone in terms of extra percussion and backup vocals. He did a hell of a job by himself...and he even had a little help from Sid on like two songs (Surfacing being one) who grabbed a pair of sticks and started playing on Shawn's kit, which was still set up, and had his mask there, to symbolize their absent brother. And Chris' leg is still healing too, cause he left the stage with crutches...but still managed to move around on stage a bit without them. A for the band, and A+ to Chris for the extra effort.

So, I might not have exactly gotten my butt kicked in the pits, but I did my fair share...at least during the first three sets. During Slipknot's set...I was...for lack of a better term, a bodyguard to this nice young lady who wanted to have fun, but did not want to fall down and get trampled on. I told her I'd protect her, basically, and make sure she didn't fall. In the process, I was pretty close with her...and during one song, she even took it upon herself to...ah...do a little dirty dancing, if you catch my drift.

...The bad part about that was, however, a little later, she told me her husband was up in the stands. Ouch. Talk about a buzzkill...:upset:

...But married women aside, it was still a great night. I highly recommend anyone who can catch them on this tour to do so. You won't be disappointed.

I've heard many Slipknot songs. Joey hasn't impressed me, I'm sorry. All of you seem to love him, but I don't see it. He's good, yeah, and he works with the band, but he's nothing to write home about. Plus I HATE his drum sound. Slipknot's production in genreal is really bad sounding. Maybe they'd be a better band if they lost 4 or 5 members, tuned their guitars up a bit, and starting writing about some different things. (KoRnered? )

I laughed the first time I heard Pulse of the Maggots. The solo is so random and unmelodic, and just all around bad.

I guess I can understand a few of the guys opinions, but no justification, and how can a band get better while taking away something? Maybe it sounds better without, but that can go for everything you add to music, not just the seemingly extraneous members in Slipknot. I'm so tired of that statement.

If I knew anything about guitar solos, I might just make a statement about the Pulse of the Maggots comment, but that'd be stupid of me. I wouldn't know a good guitar solo from a jar mayonaise. If I said anything I'd get thrown a bunch of random guitar lingo and feel lame. What I can say though, is that I enjoyed it.

How come people always come in here and talk about how we praise Joey anyways? I don't remember ever praising him, or any of the regular people in this thread for that matter. It's just a false statement.

Probably because the Drum forum has had numerous people go in there and be like "omfg joey jordison is the best evar!" and he's clearly not.

He does have strengths. He can do things better than some can, and it goes the other way too. Just because you hear another drummer, and he sounds better, doesn't mean it totally blows away Joey. There doing different things.

If Joey plays quad licks fills all the time really well, then the guy from Dimmu does like, amazingly precise blast beats (I haven't heard much Dimmu, this is just an example) that sound cooler than Joey's fills, that doesn't mean he's blatantly better than Joey.

I'm not saying either drummers are better than eachother, but this same thing goes on and on in this thread about Joey and it's really ****ing old. It's as bad as the Lars conversations in the Metallica thread (and that's saying something). Arguing over the same thing over and over with someone isn't going to change there mind obviously, as it never has before.

Let's not make another 10 page Joey argument.

Yeah, that would be cool.

Hell, I'd be happier if he played more fills like he did in "Vermilion". If you listen, there are a couple of cool bass fills here and there...and the bass fill on "Surfacing" is neat too.

Yeah, that would be cool.

Hell, I'd be happier if he played more fills like he did in "Vermilion". If you listen, there are a couple of cool bass fills here and there...and the bass fill on "Surfacing" is neat too.

Paul said he often chooses to lay back and just form a solid rhythm foundation...and that's cool, but yeah...he's got the skill, he should use it a bit more heh

The bass is alot easier to hear on the video version of the song rather than the album version.Which reminds me..........

slipknot-metal.com is giving away the songs in that special disk 2 thing. They've been released in the past, but if you havent heard them, go get them ****s.Im really digging that Vermilion version.

Almost all the songs off first album would be in there (well first album not including mate feed kill repeat). Iowa I thought was a really bad album. The new album has some really interesting riffs. Welcome and the first song (i forget the name) are both really good. Think coreys lyrics have gone down hill a bit for some of the new stuff though.

Yes.

Slipknot has what I like to call "Too many idiot fans Syndrome". They have too many rabid, moronic, fanboyish fans who go around proclaiming them to be the best of the best, and defend them without any logical background...and then people bash the group and fans of the band, even though all fans are not nearly as bad as those fans.

At my drummers bday party, him and me started playing Duality...
Just a guitar and drums.
Then he stopped halfway through cause he got tired...

I did NOT like Vol. 3...(dont flame me for this) but i think they really sold out on this one. They had a unique sound going for them, and they completely changed it so they could get more fans.

I personally think their S/T one was the best...it was the most original at the time.

Did I miss the interview where they admitted to changing their style because they want more fans? Because as far as we can tell, they could have changed it because they were tired of old stuff. :thumb:

I think Vol.3 is the best album. Why? It's just a much more altogether balanced effort. If anything I think they have concentrated the sound, not abandoned it.
