sid AND craig do something in almost every song, and the ones the dont, they just headbang but so what?
So...whats the point of having them there if they just jump around?

Which masks do you like better, the old ones or the new ones? i personally like the old ones better.
i like mick and paul's new ones, but i like cory's and james old ones more.
i didnt like either of shawn or sid's masks, and chris and craig are basically the same. i like joeys new one too

Slipknot are a very good band and Joey is a wicked awsome drummer.
But i think with like 5 guitarist they could of come up with better guitaring.
(Sic) and Wait and Bleed are both very good songs.

the old masks were definetly better in most cases. Corey's new mask just looks stupid. I was reading some interview and Joey said that they were supposed to looked aged or something, but I don't see that. Oh, and I think Clown should die. He is a pointless member, and a dumbass.

You have a Kittie avatar. All the members are pointless. They can barely hold up their instruments much less play them. Therefore, shut up.

well theres 2 guitarists in the band but i know that Joey and Corey play guitar, and Paul played guitar for a real long time before he started bass. So they could have given some input to mick and james. idk if anyone else in the band plays guitar
Paranoidd
10-13-2004, 06:48 PM
They don't have five guitar players, they have two. Just because other guys in the band know how to play doesn't mean that they count as players in the band.
Mick and James surely play better than anyone else in the band.
So they have have two guitarists, done.

That Vermilion performance is crazy...they are wearing their mask-over-mask thing...the latex masks of their faces that they made. You get a good shot of everyone except Sid and Craig, sadly.

i think its true about the new album being very corey orientated. it sounds a lot like stone sour. having sed that i love it too pieces.
JOEY JORDISON kicks major arse on the drums. there aint a better drummer.
Top 5 slipknot songs:
1. wait and bleed
2. the heretic anthem (particularly good live)
3. my plague
4. spit it out
5. duality
\n/ to all us maggots :)

Top 10 would be
1. Left Behind
2. Virus Of Life
3. Wait and Bleed
4. My Plauge
5. Virmillion
6. Virmillion Part 2
7. SIC
8. Duality
9. Opium Of the People
10. Scream
They shouldn't lose any of the member. the clown guy is crazy. when they are seperate, they are nothing, but together, they are greatness.

yea it was sid. i think craig is faking this whole emergency teeth surgery thing. In the Vermillion music video, you cant see his "face" because hes being blocked by someone. And i think this whole surgery thing was just to get him out of playing the TMF awards and being videotaped with their new vermillion masks on. Craig is the member in the band thats most concerned with keeping his identity unknown. Everybody else dosent really care anymore

No.I seriously doubt he would fake all that crap just to avoid having his face seen.Either way, I doubt the cameras would have even turned to him had he been there. The vocalist tends to get the most camera time during TV appearances.

Yeah, but if you got to see someone from slipknot would you not remember the face. i would. people even if they saw him for like two seconds would be able to remember his face and then if they saw him. crazy time.

Come on, the dude has had half of his face shown from when he had the diver's helmet. Search on any site, and you can probably find a picture where his eyes and nose are clearly visible.

Slipknot... I saw them at the Soma here in San Diego. I like them..which is unusual... since I don't really like it when rap style lyrics are mixed with metal or rock... not my favorite band... but so far the best band I've seen in concert.. so much energy from every member.

Slipknot are easily the best band in the world, although Metallica come a close second. They are truly excellent live, anyone at downloaad 2004 should know that. I can agree with what some of you are saying about Vol. 3, but i think its a f***ing great album, not as good as the 1st two granted, but it has some truly excellent songs on it, Before i forget for example. I do like the slower ballad-type songs as it shows that Slipknot are'nt just a band that scream and shout, like so many ignorant people seem to think. Corey has an amazing voice. But nothing comes close to Surfacing or Spit it out, they're CLASSICS. As for the list of top 20 songs............. i cant do it, it all depends on my mood to which tracks i like. Damageplan isn't better than anybody. I'd rather saw off my ears with a rusty knife then be subjected to that crap.
Machinehead is OK, Burn My Eyes is a specifically good record. When they aren't reverting to some odd melodic nu-metal crap, they put out good records. If they had a more consistent career, they'd be alot higher up in my books.

I gota agree with this guy..i used to listen to Slipknot all the time..they were my favorite band..and i still really do enjoy them..but i really think the new cd is a total disappointment..i mean its badass they started doing solos and such..but just everything else was so different compared to Iowa and Selftitled..i think another reason i really didnt like the new cd..is it seemed like through a lot of the songs..they dropped the rest of the band..besides joey..mick..james..corey..and paul..and that really pissed me off..cuz that creativeness of all 9 members was awesome
My list would go
Surfacing
Spit It Out
Wait And Bleed
Liberate
Prosthetics
No Life
Only One
Scissors
Iowa
Left Behind
Heretics Anthem
Everything Ends
People = ****
Gently
My Plague
Metabolic
Duality
Vermillion Part 2
Pulse Of The Maggots
Blister Exists
Slipknot are awesome, but i've moved away from them, i don't listen to them as much any more, for me, their latest album was a dissapointment, it was a change in their style of music which to me, makes COREY not the band, it makes corey a sellout. I only say this because all of slipknot say stuff like "corey was a real drive for us this time around".

What world are you living in?
Volume 3 features all 9 members much better than S/T or Iowa ever did.
The Blister Exists, Duality, Vermilion, POTM, The Nameless, in particular, all have 9 different parts going on. You can actually hear Craig, or Sid, or the percussion, or even Paul.
S/T and Iowa saw them totally underuse 9 members. Craig or Sid would do virtually nothing, except every now and then, and Shawn and Chris did little except headbang and fight with each other. Volume 3 shows them throwing their weight around in many better ways, with odd synth lines, thumping percussion, and if you listen closely, even Sid is getting in on the action.
Go listen to it again.

It is my firm belief that Vermilion is the best song they have ever written. It's probably the only track where all 9 members get to do ALOT in the song...well, Sid's part is minimal, but, he's still there. I love it.
I have also sat and heard MFKR, all of it. And honestly, I can't see why they didn't continue to make that kind of music. Normally, if someone told me "we play a mix of funk, disco, hip hop, ambient and metal" I'd say "You're crazy" but Slipknot did it very, very well on that disc...although I don't like Anders' singing at all.

Stay SIC maggots  no theyre not and metallica is no where near dumbass check out real bands i like slipknot too but anyone who say theyre the best are just stupid

He's a horrible vocalist, and he is one of the main reasons I don't listen to much Slipknot beyond MFKR. Anders wasn't THAT great, but I'd take him over Corey anytime. He's more image than talent.
I can't stand his lyrics primarily, they're so angsty (in a bad way) and childish that they actually laughable. They're based on stupid little catch phrases that a plethora of idiots can relate to.
"If you're 555 then I'm 666" or however it goes, what the hell kind of stupid garbage is that?
His raspy ballady type singing sounds identical to crap like Nickelback or Chevelle. I don't know why he gets credit for doing ballady songs--the raspy voice has been done long ago, and it's been done better. I can't stand his screaming, it has no conviction to me. Basically I don't really like anything he does.
His singing absolutely kills the music for me. If they got a different singer, dropped the samples/DJ/percussionists, I'd probably like them alot more.

Well, Anders' vocals were all about a card game or something like that.At least Corey is trying to say something with his lyrics. While his lyrics are angsty(more so then than now), they really didnt differ too much from oh say Suffocation lyrics or alot of other death metal bands for that matter.I agree with you about those stupid catch phrases. If it were up to me, Heretic Anthem would have never been released, because it is the reason people like slipknut666 like the band. But I can really only name about 3 or 4 songs that have a stupid catch phrase like that so you cant say his lyric writing is based on it.Please read his Vol.3 lyrics and point out what exactly is so childish about them.I see nothing.

I had vol. 3 before most people, because I'm a download whore :D
I was very disappointed with it from the get go...
The thing kills me about Coreys lyrics is, to me, it seems like he writes in the worst way possible. It's kind of difficult to explain, if you've ever written lyrics, it's the forumla you try to AVOID. The vibe I get off his lyrics is like he has already chosen two words to rhyme, and the rest of verse is simply filler to get to those words...you know what I'm trying to say?
I have screamed until my veins collapsed
I've waited as my time's elapsed
Something like that...it's just weak. It seems like a forced rhyme, like he needed SOMETHING to rhyme with collapsed, so he came up with "elasped" and wrote the verse around it. That's just the vibe that I get from it, you may not agree, and that's fair enough. I can write verses like that too, they may even make sense, but they just don't sound right.
Stuff like "all I've got is insane" is just weak. It's straightforward, yes, and that isn't necessarily bad, but it just sounds stupid to me.
I push my fingers into my eyes
It's the only thing that slowly stops the ache
If the pain goes on,
I'm not gonna make it!
Something like that...it's poor imagery and sounds so forced. OOoooOh I'm hardcore, I push my fingers in my eyes, blah blah. Kids eat this crap up, and I don't know why. It reminds me of those goth kids who act all melancholy just for the sake of doing it, and make poetry like "woe is me" type of crap. It's like saying just for the sake of saying it.
I also find Corey utterly redundant. In "The Pulse Of The Maggots" I was wondering how many times he could possibly say the same thing...was driving me crazy. I got that as a promo before the album came out, and I was hoping the rest of the record didn't sound like that...
Oh, and don't think I meant Anders was a better lyricist, because I think Corey is better...Anders lyrics are bloody well stupid 90% of the time, it's just that if I'm going to listen to lyrics I don't like either way, I'd rather hear Anders. I also liked the music they did on MFKR much better. Tracks like do nothing/bitchslap totally hold my interest. Slipknots newer stuff just seems to drag on to me, and I'm ready to skip ahead before the track is even half done.
I actually defend slipknot alot more than people realize. However, somebody who thinks that Mick is the best in the world is just as stupid as somebody who thinks he's utterly talentless, and it's unfortunate that a majority of slipknot fans don't know how to discuss things without having a heart attack when you suggest to them their opinion isn't accurate (I'm not talking about you Rellik, or guys like Joz. You keep this thread going).
It's just that I'm usually defending Joey or Mick, which isn't too hard. If people complain about Corey, I usually agree.
On a side note:

That's my point. Mick shines here and there but generally he plays alot of power chord riffs. Labelling him "the best ever" while there are insane virtuosos around just doesn't make any sense.
The pulse of the maggots solo is good, and interesting, but hearing me play it wouldn't change anything. I probably could if I wanted to take the time to learn it, anyone can play anything if they try, but that isn't the point. Mick is cool, I defend him to alot of people, but you can't even say he is "the best" because he doesn't even come close. And you cite Corey's lyrics in "Duality" as being weak...well, I won't argue that those particular lyrics aren't that great, but how about the lyrics in "Circle", "The Blister Exists" or "Vermilion"? Aside from Duality, I think he's matured in terms of his lyrics, compared to stuff off Iowa "I wanna slit your throat, f*ck the wound" "If you're 555, I'm 666", "You are all f*cked, and overrated, I think I'm gonna be sick and it's your fault" or stuff off the S/T "All you wanna do is drag me down, all I wanna do is stamp you out", "Get this or die!
Some people like him though, so whatever.
ok dude, listen. first of all, ur thinking that slipknot would b better off without him, when in reality, they couldn't survive like that. anders sucked big time, and the band made a good decision bringing corey in. just because he uses lyrics that you think have no meaning, it doesn't mean that they dont. ever heard of a word called "metaphor"? hmm? well "if you're 555 then i'm 666" means that he'll never be what people want him 2 b just 2 make more people like him. he won't become sum sellout just so ppl like u will think more highly of him. also, he can do more than "screaming and raspy voice singing" as was displayed in vol. 3, but this is METAL. its not supposed to be light and pretty, go listen 2 jessica simpson if u want that. and dude, to drop all those musicians u want them 2 would b suicide. slipknot is who they are becuz of its TALENTED members. i agree with slipknut666 man, just get the f*ck off here if all ur gonna do is b*tch about a great band. same 2 all u other losers who've ben goin on bout how mick couldn't play a real solo and sh*t like that. god****! this is a thread for slipknot FANS!!!!!!

IMO he sounds nothing like Nickleback or Chevelle's singer at all.Nor is his voice even that raspy. He has a fairly good singing voice.I dont see why people hate it.

It was.
On S/T and Iowa, you have the epitome of Ross Robinson's sound.
On MFKR, I think they self-produced it, so there you go.
On Volume 3, Rick Rubin, IMO, worked magic and we got something great...
Maybe you think they are tools for listening to their producer, but in a way, I think it helped them grow. They knew they could do better than S/T and Iowa, so they got rid of Robinson, and let their real talent show...
Oh yeah, I'll post the Vermilion tab on MXtabs in a few.

If anything Vol.3 was alot less Nu Metal than their older stuff. They were just unlucky enough to blow up when the "nu metal craze" was hitting its peak.Nu Metal is not a genre, its a marketing lable."Nu Metal" was the hot thing at on point so the industry started slapping it on any new band in order to make money. How else would Slipknot and Linkin Park be put in the same genre? It doesnt matter anyway."Nu metal" will be a forgotten term in 10 years.Slipknot will likely still be remembered.....as a metal band(which is fitting). As a matter of fact, the same magazines calling them "nu metal" 3 years ago now lable them as a metal band.

im sorry but how can you like slipknot?? if you are 13 and under in understand but once you are 14 you should definitely look at more mature bands....bands that are real metal and not nu-metal.....

Which slipknot songs do you guys listen to when you're really pissed? I usually blast Surfacing or Everything Ends, when i'm in a bad mood.

If you want to see the truely talented side of Slipknot go back and listen to Mate Feed Kill Repeat. Beats the **** out of anything they've done since.
True (MFKR is also my favorite Slipknot album), but it was also a different band. I try not to compare it with their newer work.
Anders Colsefni
Donnie Steele
Josh Brainard
Paul Gray
Joey Jordison
Shawn Crahan
Only three of those guys are still in the band.

But then again (not trying to argue, just looking at it from a different perespective) Corey was with the band doing backing vocals at the time. That means four of the current members were involved in MFKR. Them, especially Corey, could bare a lot of the blame for their style changing so dramatically.

Donnie Steele did the recording of the S/T album too, from what I understand, before Jim came in :thumb:
Either way. I listen to MFKR, and wish Paul would rip it up now like he used to. He was quoted saying that he "gets to show off a few times on the new album" but that he "prefers to lock into a really tight rhythm", with so many people in the band.
Anyone who doubts Paul, listen to MFKR. I gained alot more respect for him as a bassist after hearing that, and after reading things where he talks like a musician as opposed just some dude playing bass.
I still think Volume 3 is their best, as a whole, album. But MFKR is right behind it, for being probably one of the most original albums ever.

You're right about Donnie. Jim came in on Iowa.
I completely agree with what you said about Paul. After hearing MFKR, I actually had to check to make sure he was the same guy.

Corey was in Stone Sour at the time. Slipknot actually beat out Stone Sour in the Battle of the Bands. Corey came in to do backup vocals live, and Anders decided to quit. He did it on stage without notifying anybody else beforehand. Corey didn't work on the album, though, as far as I know.

I only know one good slipknot's song and that's wait and bleed. If anyone knows some others (related to that one) please tell me it, cause I'd like to know.

If you want stuff like "Wait and Bleed", I'd suggest the following
Liberate
Surfacing
Get This
People = ****
Left Behind
My Plague
Spit it Out
Diluted
If you want good material that sounds nothing like Wait and Bleed
The Blister Exists
Duality
Opium of the People
Welcome
Vermilion
Pulse of the Maggots
Before I Forget
And if you want really weird, but good material
Confessions
Do Nothing / Bitchslap
Tattered and Torn
Killers are Quiet

The correct phrase would be "Liberate ucking-Fay ocks-Ray!"
uckfaying is not a word.

Paul is soooooooo awsome its not fair that he doesnt try anymore he tries as much as Lars these days!
MFKR is still there best album tho
It annoyed me how they took Purity off and Frail Limb Nursery (which ive never heard) Purity is a awsome song the reason they took it off was that the story it was based on turned out to not be true but i think they should of still left it on
