The new single, Psychosocial, is some of the worst music I have ever heard. The guitar riffs are the worst rejected 80s metal thing I've ever heard, the vocals are awful, with a horribly anti-climactic chorus, and the only truly decent thing in that song is the intro.

CoB is actually doing support acts for Slipknot... I mean.. Come on.. If anything, it should be the other way around. And CoB needs all the support they can get, 'cause their last two albums kinda sucked. XD

No offense to Slipknot, but I feel that CoB is technically a much more interesting band. Something Wild, Hatebreeder and Follow The Reaper are great albums. From there on, the albums just got a bit more mediocre.

Here's a quote from an interview with Paul Gray that I found interesting:
It's the perfect time for this record to come out. The fans have been waiting, and this whole genre needs a good kick in the teeth.
It definitely needs a kick in the teeth. It went from rap-metal to, "Hey, I'm an emo kid with a lame haircut and skinny jeans" [Laughs]. These days, it seems like everybody listened to At The Drive-In and decided that they were going to be in a metal band at the same time. Every ****ing band's doing that. I love death metal, and I love black metal. I won't say anything bad about that ****. As far as bands in our scene, I haven't bought a new record in a long time. I listen to my old Slayer records or my old David Bowie records. Of the newer bands that are out, I can't think of many that I'm into. I think Job for a Cowboy ****ing rules. Those dudes are pretty awesome. I liked Behemoth's last record. It's weird because Slipknot's at the level now where it became cool not to like Slipknot. We got a little bit of backlash. Kids that are 16 or 17 will say we're "Nu Metal." These kids try to tell me what true metal is when I was at the ****in' Powerslave concert in 1984. They weren't even born yet! [Laughs] I don't care. Dude, I know metal. I'm 36-years-old, I've been in metal bands for 23 years. I was doing Metallica and Slayer covers when I was 13. I've paid my dues, and I've paid my respects to the metal gods for that ****. I'm not going to be told by some teenybopper mother****er that we're "Mall metal" when I know what the **** we're doing. People can say whatever they want, but when we play, we're playing in front of 20,000 people every night. Slipknot's bigger than ever. I'm so ****ing proud and happy to be in this band. I'm so thankful for the fans that have stuck by us through all these years. We have the most loyal fans in the world, and we're gaining new ones every day. If any detractors can do it better, they should start a band and write a record, man. I'll buy it from them [Laughs].

08-21-2008, 10:08 AM
i just like it because their finally letting the guitarists show off, i know their talented, they just never get any guitar solos. Lol i got the special edition, if you think the regular album is lone the special edition has 15 tracks.
They definitely had a handful of solos on Volume 3
the problem is that their solos are awful
the album was okay, pretty boring for the most part, nothing really stood out
I wouldn't say awful, but they're definitely your run-of-the-mill shreddy solos.
I'm much more focused on the riffs and hooks here anyways.
Dimmu Burger
08-21-2008, 03:14 PM
I listened some more last night and I really like it, its becoming more of a straight metal band and less nu-metal. They might as well get rid of the dj, the sample guy and the two percussionist/vocalist guys, they don't do anything.
Si1v3RfaNg

Hey, yeah I know i'm new here. But my point is I think music is an artistic expression. And whatever you feel you want to do is valid. Meaning you can't sell out because it's art. I know it's not the "normal" with songs like snuff. But it still is a "slipknot" album. I'm a huge fan of them, but I won't say i'm a blind follower. I love this new CD as it's own and I don't plan on comparing it to their other works. I feel each album is it's own piece and deserves to be looked at as such.

watch some of the live videos for when they did iowa and were still playing tracks like spit it out and wait and bleed, some of them are really bad lol
the masks are a cool idea and you do have to understand its purely an image thing, to add to the whole listening experience
its that whole thing that if a blind person was to go to a slipknot show they'd think it was just you know, average heavy music but if a deaf person went to a slipknot show they would think it was the most insane thing ever etc

Mmm... c'mon, I don't think people are that shallow that they would listen to a band just because of their image. You're understating their music. As a matter of fact, I'd reckon Slipknot would have a whole different audience if they didn't have their same image.
Benzum
08-25-2008, 04:28 AM
yeah maybe but would they be making the same sounding music?
i dont think they would be as heavy without the masks and they certinally wouldnt have 9 people in the band
so without the guy who hits trash cans and occasionally screams down a mic they would just be another 4 or 5 piece band and looking the way they do, i dont think they would crack the mainstream like they have done.

Well, at their MFKR stage, they already had the masks going on, the two percussionists and a sampler. The music between MFKR and S/T isn't too different. But again, if they had stayed away from the gimmicky stuff, perhaps they may have made much more 'heavier' music, without cracking the mainstream.
understanding?
i think you meant underrating or something along those lines lol

1. To state with less completeness or truth than seems warranted by the facts.
2. To express with restraint or lack of emphasis, especially ironically or for rhetorical effect.
3. To state (a quantity, for example) that is too low.

Message from Paul on Slipknot1.com
""First off i want to thank all of the Slipknot fans around the world, making "ALL HOPE IS GONE" the 1 record IN THE WORLD!! Thats no bullshit! Words can't describe the feeling that i have over the response of the record. Being off for 4 years, you can start thinking that people have forgotten about you, you Guys and Ladies have definitely showed me thats not the case...AT ALL! Our first video for Psychosocial was done by Paul Brown on a farm in the middle of the night in Iowa. We think he did an amazing job on it and it's our first video thats ever been nominated for an MTV VMA. Thank you to all the fans that came out to the Mayhem Tour!! You all have made it a huge success and there will definitely be another Mayhem Tour in the future. Next week we go to our second video for "DEAD MEMORIES" With Paul Brown once again! So keep an eye out but thats all I'm giving away!!!!! Sid is healing great, he is walking(with canes) But is on his way to a full and complete recovery as well as Joey who has been going through rehabilitation and will be ready for Japan, Australia and Europe. He is actually playing some drums now!! He will be healed by the time we go back out on tour!!!! As far as everything at home that's my personal life but i LOVE my wife more than anything in the world and i've NEVER been HAPPIER in my life, She is my best friend my confidant and The absolute LOVE OF MY LIFE and i couldn't live without her!( I LOVE YOU BABY) I will be more active with my page please be patient I'm really busy so don't get you panties in a wad if i don't get back to you right away, I'm getting to the messages as quick as can. Talk to you guys soon!!

Some of the members thoughts on working with Rick Rubin on Volume 3. Thought that this was interesting, especially what Corey had to say.
Shawn Crahan (percussion): "'Vol. 3' was all about rebuilding friendships and since we were rebuilding, it was reall easy to rebuild the innovation of our music. Listen to that ****ing record. It's spiritual. Rick Rubin's the oracle. He sat us down with each other. I heard things from the other members I don't care to repeat. I gained a couple of friends. I might have created a couple of enemies. We all agreed we were going to get on a plateau of communication and that's what we did."
Jim Root (guitar): "Rick was really attentive to what we needed as a band. He knew I was going through major anxiety. I got a knock on my bedroom door one day, and his assistant came up and he had this herbal drop that you put on your tongue to mellow out. A lot of the guys in the band say Rick was unavailable. And yeah, he takes on a lot of projects at one time, but he also does things that are beneficial. He would listen to what we'd done, then have us retrack things that needed work. He's kind of like Big Brother up on the hill. Even though he wasn't there physically every day, he was. That's my favorite record we've done."
Corey Taylor (vocals): "I wouldn't know what it's like to work with Rick Rubin. I only saw him about four times. Rick Rubin is a nice man. He's done a lot of good for a lot of people. He didn't do anything for me. I'm not happy with the vocals on that record. There were a lot of takes that I thought were much better than the ones they ****in' used and I wasn't asked about a lot of ****. It sounds amazing; the songs are great. But we were being charged horrendous amounts of money. And for me, if you're going to produce something, you're ****ing there. I don't care who you are."

Nope, studio version. The guitars are really noisy and you can't tell what they're doing.

First time I've seen a member do an instrumental lesson without a mask, even Mick and Jim wore masks for a magazine tutorial I saw a couple of years ago. How old is Paul Gray, he looks really young there or is it just me

Ok I realized my problem while driving to work today:
Back when that album came out I ripped all my cds in 128kbps because Musicmatch software told me that was cd quality. That's why it sounds like butt. I'm gonna find it in higher quality somewhere online when I get a chance.

Wow, he looks nothing like I expected. Kinda like a metalcore scene kid!

He's 36. Yeah, I too was surprised that he didn't appear with his mask on, given what the guitarists did.

Lol. I'm more accustomed to his mug shot... looks more metal.
The thing that made me laugh was that he looked like he was on the half-smirking, as in: "What the hell am I doing here?"
