Whenever some new user makes a decent thread asking a question, out of the first 10 posts, 8 of them are unfunny remarks that are basically just malking fun of the thread starter. Also, peple who aren't used to the way things work around here are immediately laughed at. Sure, lot's of impulse posting, but the forum in general is not that welcoming.

It's not that welcoming, the traffic for new posters is quite low if you ask me.
But I guess that's what happens if you have a tight community.

racist joking, however lulzy it may be is kind of lame. It has gotten a little bit out of control, but the fact is I stuck around through being treated like **** as a noob, and now people kind of sort of respect me maybe a tiny bit and don't give me **** as much because i've established myself as a user and a person that isn't completely retarded. if casual users want to post and get "scared away", they are replaced by people like me who post a lot more in the long run.

if you see it and it bothers you, report it in the problems thread in the review site forum and they might respond. We don't have much control over there from over here you see, it's pretty much up to individual mods how to handle users they see which can vary pretty widely throughout the site.

I said don't hotlink from RYM because the images won't show up for anyone but yourself. It's not a warning in that you're doing something wrong, it's just a suggestion. RYM files actually save as 1x1 pixels, but show up as the album covers as downloaded into your cache or cookies or whatever, so even though you're linking the album cover in the 'what are you listening to now' thread, it's not going to show up for anyone but you.

You misunderstood. You did nothing wrong, I was just trying to tell you that hotlinked images from RYM won't show up, which kind of defeats the purpose of posting in that thread. Y'dig?

It was nothing personal and there was nothing offensive about what you posted, but allowing off-topic and joke threads to exist here for long only invites more to be made. Eventually this subforum won't be about rock and metal anymore it'll be another spam hellhole like GD and users will be complaining about unfair treatment when the mods lock their threads and give special treatment to others etc.

Perhaps I was a little quick to move it, and if you feel that way sorry. Still, we have the community thread to talk general **** in and as you say most of the other "on-topic" threads wind up as off-topic discussion and the same old in-jokes anyway. This is fine, as long as its not outright offensive or just plain spam but please try and keep these kind of threads that have nothing to do with rock and metal elsewhere or at least "slightly" on-topic (yes, I am lenient about this be as creative as you want) or otherwise i'll eventually move it or lock it if its just plain bad and has descended into another community thread.
