Was it this that tipped you off:
Or how when this guy named Subsonic called Soilwork and In Flames "thrash" 'cuz they are kinda thrashy, he got called all sorts of names. It was pretty pathetic. Kind of goes to show how consistent most of the dorks here are that they can hear the same opinions by different screen names and have completely different reactions...
Anybody know what happened to Subsonic? I thought he was pretty cool and knew what he was talking about.

I was googling lyrics to try and find this song, it is an old song, the singer sounds kind of like Bob Segar and the only part I can remember is
"Your working on the night" (If you sing it like Bob Segar or Van Morrison you might be able to think of it). I feel rather dumb for not knowing the title of the song because it is like one of the most well known songs of all time. However if someone would be able to tell me the title of the song that would be super.

Recently I started running the daily upload with decent success when no one else wanted to uptake the task right away. I also brought Deth into it, who has been a good aid, who also deserved his ava. I try to be a good poster, even if I do slip up every now and then :p. And I feel left out being one of the few users without a big ava. Plus, its not a very big one anyway, if you want it to be smaller, I will totally decrease the size by a little bit if you so desire. I just would like it larger because if it is at the default setting it is pretty hard to tell what it is. It's also a smaller file then my current avatar anyway.

COLOURIMETRIC DETERMINATION OF THE ASSOCIATION CONSTANT OF THE FERRIC-THIOCYANATE COMPLEX ION [FE(SCN)OH2]5]2+
Abstract: Aqueous metal ions can have ligands added through a stepwise addition of H2O. For a given aqueous solution, the association constant may be determined provided only one known co-ordination of the complex is present. Ferric-thiocyanate was analysed colourimetrically, and from this the percentage of the total [SCN] and [Fe] present as complex were calculated. It was found that only 2.09% of the Fe was bound to the SCN, which supports the addition of excess Fe during formation of the complex.
1. Introduction
Metals ions in aqueous solutions are hydrated. Addition of ligands to the metal progresses through a stepwise displacement of the H2O (Housecroft & Sharpe, 2005). The stability, or associative constant, for this process is given by the formula:
where the activity of the aqua ligands is 1 and therefore not part of the expression (Davies & Keene, 2007).
For a given aqueous solution, if only one co-ordination complex of a known formula is present, then the association constant may be determined from the concentration of the uncomplexed metal ions or ligands, or the complexed metal in solution. This may be found through a colourimetric, spectroscopic or spectrophotometric analysis (Housecroft & Sharpe, 2005).
This report aims to determine the association complex for [Fe(SCN)OH2]5]2+ through the colourimetric analysis of a series of solutions. It will then calculate the percentages of total [SCN] and [Fe3+] present as complex in a given solution.
2. Methodology
8 solutions were made up using 100mL volumetric flasks. The solutions were synthesised from ferric nitrate and potassium thiocyanate, with added nitric acid. A detailed method can be found in Chemistry Of The Elements: CH2022 Laboratory Manual, School of Pharmacy And Molecular Sciences, JCU, Townsville, 2007.
3. Results
Table 1: [ ] of Fe3+ and SCN- and Optical Density for each solution
Solution [Fe3+](M) [SCN-](M) Optical Density (470nm)
A 0.024 2x10-4 N/A
B 0.012 2x10-4 0.5143
C 7.2 2x10-4 0.3993
D 4.8x10-3 2x10-4 0.3044
E 3.6x10-3 2x10-4 0.2496
F 3.0x10-3 2x10-4 0.2201
G 2.4x10-3 2x10-4 0.1889
H 0 2x10-4 0
Table 1 shows the results of the colourimetric analysis on solutions A-H. The optical density for A could not be recorded due to experimental error. The Optical Density decreased from B-H. The highest value for Optical Density was 0.5143 and the lowest was 0.
The reciprocal of [Fe3+] in M was plotted against the reciprocal of the optical density in Figure 1 (below). From this, the intercept and gradient was determined.
K = intercept / slope (see practical manual) therefore the association constant of the complex may be determined.
4. Discussion
The plot of the reciprocal of the optical density vs the reciprocal of the concentration of Fe3+ shows a straight line. This line has an intercept of 1.1 and a gradient of 1/95. Therefore, the value of K = 1.1/(1/95) = 104.5. Now, as the value of K is known, it is possible to determine the concentration of the complex [Fe(SCN)]2+ for a given solution. This is due to the formula:
K = [{Fe(SCN)}2+]_
[Fe3+][SCN-]
For solution B, the value of K is 104.5, the value of [Fe3+] is 0.012 and the value of [SCN-] is 2x10-4. Therefore, the concentration of the complex is:
Hence, the % of SCN- present as complex in solution B is 125%. Although the percentage is greater than 100, this can be attributed to human and scientific error within the experiment. The conditions of the experiment, i.e. an excess of iron relative to thiocyanate, indicate that all thiocyanate in the solution would be bound to the Fe3+.
Likewise, the % of Fe3+ present as part of the complex in solution B is 2.09%. Again, the excess of iron relative to thiocyanate supports the low percentage of Fe3+, as the thiocyanate is the limiting reagent.
5. Conclusion
The excess of Fe3+ used in the experiment ensured that only [Fe(SCN)(OH2)5]2+ is present in a relevant amount. Ignoring the aqua ligands, the association constant of the [Fe(SCN]2+ (K) was determined to be 104.5. Therefore the concentration of the complex in solution could be determined, and thus the percentage of total iron and thiocyanate present as complex in solution.

heres my essay i worked all night on it
The word “quantum” (Latin, “how much”) in quantum mechanics refers to a discrete unit that quantum theory assigns to certain physical quantities, such as the energy of an atom at rest (see Figure 1, at right). The discovery that waves have discrete energy packets (called quanta) that behave in a manner similar to particles led to the branch of physics that deals with atomic and subatomic systems which we today call quantum mechanics. It is the underlying mathematical framework of many fields of physics and chemistry, including condensed matter physics, solid-state physics, atomic physics, molecular physics, computational chemistry, quantum chemistry, particle physics, and nuclear physics. The foundations of quantum mechanics were established during the first half of the twentieth century by Werner Heisenberg, Max Planck, Louis de Broglie, Niels Bohr, Erwin Schrödinger, Max Born, John von Neumann, Paul Dirac, Wolfgang Pauli and others. Some fundamental aspects of the theory are still actively studied.
It is currently necessary to use quantum mechanics to understand the behavior of systems at atomic length scales and smaller. For example, if Newtonian mechanics governed the workings of an atom, electrons would rapidly travel towards and collide with the nucleus. However, in the natural world the electrons normally remain in an unknown orbital path around the nucleus, defying classical electromagnetism.
Quantum mechanics was initially developed to explain the atom, especially the spectra of light emitted by different atomic species. The quantum theory of the atom developed as an explanation for the electron's staying in its orbital, which could not be explained by Newton's laws of motion and by Maxwell's laws of classical electromagnetism.
In the formalism of quantum mechanics, the state of a system at a given time is described by a complex wave function (sometimes referred to as orbitals in the case of atomic electrons), and more generally, elements of a complex vector space. This abstract mathematical object allows for the calculation of probabilities of outcomes of concrete experiments. For example, it allows one to compute the probability of finding an electron in a particular region around the nucleus at a particular time. Contrary to classical mechanics, one can never make simultaneous predictions of conjugate variables, such as position and momentum, with arbitrary accuracy. For instance, electrons may be considered to be located somewhere within a region of space, but with their exact positions being unknown. Contours of constant probability, often referred to as “clouds” may be drawn around the nucleus of an atom to conceptualize where the electron might be located with the most probability. It should be stressed that the electron itself is not spread out over such cloud regions. It is either in a particular region of space, or it is not. Heisenberg's uncertainty principle quantifies the inability to precisely locate the particle.
The other exemplar that led to quantum mechanics was the study of electromagnetic waves such as light. When it was found in 1900 by Max Planck that the energy of waves could be described as consisting of small packets or quanta, Albert Einstein exploited this idea to show that an electromagnetic wave such as light could be described by a particle called the photon with a discrete energy dependent on its frequency. This led to a theory of unity between subatomic particles and electromagnetic waves called wave-particle duality in which particles and waves were neither one nor the other, but had certain properties of both. While quantum mechanics describes the world of the very small, it also is needed to explain certain “macroscopic quantum systems” such as superconductors and superfluids.
Broadly speaking, quantum mechanics incorporates four classes of phenomena that classical physics cannot account for: (i) the quantization (discretization) of certain physical quantities, (ii) wave-particle duality, (iii) the uncertainty principle, and (iv) quantum entanglement. Each of these phenomena will be described in greater detail in subsequent sections. im adding this sentence so its not plagiarized from wikipedia.

Analysis of Riva and its effect on the thermodynamic stability of an Internet Forum
Abstract: Much study has been done on the awesome nature of Riva in general. However, the effect of Riva on the thermodynamic stability of forums is less well known. A sample of Riva was subjected to a variety of tests to determine its "hot" rating. The effects of this on an internet forum was then analysed. It was found that Riva has a marked effect on the thermodynamic stability of an online forum.
1. Introduction
A hyperaccumulator is any plant who takes up a specific or multiple heavy metals in amounts well above the described toxicity limits (Brooks, 1976). Riva is a well-known hyperaccumulator of heavy metals (DeGaine, 2007). Previous research has shown that a substance also known as Riva is responsible for the ability to withstand high concentrations of heavy metals within the body. This substance, a dihydroxotrinitritoketonecobalt(II) fluoride, excels at kicking arse and taking names (Evil, 2005).
Internet forums have been around for ages. Dictionary.com defines the Internet as: “a vast computer network linking smaller computer networks worldwide (usually prec. by the). The Internet includes commercial, educational, governmental, and other networks, all of which use the same set of communications protocols.” (Dictonary.com, 2007). One hotbed of retardation and stupidity is the MX forums, at www.sputnikmusic.com/forums (Wikipedia, 2007).
A valid method of analysing the thermodynamic characteristics of a substance is through the “hot” rating (DeGaine, 2007). This report investigates the “hot” rating of Riva through a variety of tests. It will then calculate the effects of Riva on an internet forum.
2. Methodology
The methods used in this report are based on the circular logic of Sean Mims as described in This is why I’m hot (Mims, 2007).
3. Results
Table 3.1 shows the results of the This Is Why I’m Hot (or TIWIH) test. It can be seen that all fields showed a strong affinity for hotness. In particular, the Australian Accent field showed a value of 100. Also, the Filthy-Euro-Commie field had the lowest value possible of -500.
Table 3.1 The results of the TIWIH test.
Factor Value (Hz.m.s.kj-1.mL-2)
Sex Appeal 80
Australian Accent 100
Filthy-Euro-Commie status -500
Interweb Cred Over 9000
Taste In Beer Hawt
4. Discussion
As mentioned earlier, the results show a strong affinity for the “hot” rating of the TIWIH test. The Australian Accent is closely linked with Sex Appeal, explaining the high scores for each field. The Sex Appeal was based on female response, in particular your mum’s response. Interestingly, however, the Sex Appeal also rated high in the male response, not suprisingly due to the overly homoerotic nature of a forum of adolescent males who enjoy heavy metal.
In addition, the over 9000(Hz.m.s.kj-1.mL-2) value for Interweb Cred is the subject of some controversy, as several articles published state that a high value for this factor should be associated with a “Not Hot” rating (ED, 2007). However, as stated by Mims, S in the album Music Is My Savior, “This is why I’m hot and this is why I’m hot and this is why I’m hot”. Hence it can be assumed that the results may be open to interpretation, as any value could conceivably be shown as a reason of being hot.
5. Conclusion
Overall, it can be stated that Riva has a marked effect on the thermodynamic stability of a forum. Put succinctly, the presence of Riva increases the Highly Amazing, Wonderful Type factor of a forum by virtue of its high “hot” rating. Therefore, it is clear that Riva should be given a large avatar. However, the ability of Riva to change avatars of any size renders this entire ****ing report moot.

Well I have like 459 posts in this thread, which implies I've done my share of problem reporting. Considering that the top posters in this thread are either mods, old regulars, and other contributing figures of the forum, I believe this suggests I'm a good back seat moderator.
Tbh that's the best I can do.
Nostalgia has been a long time contributor to R&M. In addition to creating several threads on the topic, he has a significant number of posts in the Report Problems/Ask Questions/Make Suggestions thread. This suggests he is a good back seat moderator.
Nostalgia joined MX in Oct 2004. He resides in Washington State (MX, 2007). He has 11,296 posts on MX forums, the vast majority of which are in R&M (Riva, 2007). He regularly contributes to a variety of threads, including as the various incarnations of the Black Metal, Any Other Death Heads? and Folk/Viking Metal threads. This essay aims to investigate the posting habits of Nostalgia and determine whether he is fit for a larger avatar.
In the Report Problems/Ask Questions/Make Suggestions thread he has 459 posts. This implies he has done his fair share of problem reporting (Riva, 2007). The top posters of the thread are, in general, mods, former regulars or current "top posters" (MX, 2007). This suggests that he is a "good backseat moderator".
Recent shows of restraint by Nostalgia during outbreaks of trolling in R&M also imply that he is a level-headed youth (Riva, 2007). He has also been nominated for RMOTM several times (MX, 2007).
In conclusion, it can be seen that Nostalgia is a worthwhile contributor to R&M and MX as a whole and therefore is deserving of a larger avatar.

Dargon has been a long time contributor to R&M. His knowledge of all aspect of real metal are the stuff of legend, and he effectively causes noobs to scatter.
Dargon joined MX about 100 years ago. He resides in The Pits of Hell (MX, 2007). He has a bunch of posts on MX forums, all of which are in R&M (Dargon, 2007). He regularly contributes to a variety of threads, including as the various incarnations of the Black Metal, Any Other Death Heads?, and no other threads. This essay aims to investigate the posting habits of Dargon and determine whether he is fit for a larger avatar.
In the Report Problems/Ask Questions/Make Suggestions thread he has some posts. This implies he has done his fair share of problem reporting (Dargon, 2007). The top posters of the thread are, in general, mods, former regulars or current "top posters" (MX, 2007). This suggests that he is a "good backseat moderator".
Dargon frequently attempts to get his threads back on topic, even though nobody cares. He also shows restraint by not invading threads such as the Opeth thread, despite his deep-seating and burning hatred for the band. He was nominated for MX RMer of the month one time (MX, 2007).
In conclusion, it can be seen that Dargon is a worthwhile contributor to R&M and MX as a whole and therefore is deserving of a larger avatar, so hurry the **** up and change it you son of a bitch.

These are discussion forums not namedropping forums. People wonder why the forums are slow lately and it's because every thread is basically an endless cycle of people seeing if others approve of their tastes. The death/black threads are the most exemplary of this, but the Daily Upload perpetuates it with people uploading albums and feeding the fire.
Then you have the 'trolls' who provide elemental tension, which thereby aggravates those not 'in the know' resulting in call-outs. Call-outs result in long-winded Dargon insults, which in turn lead to three pages of us calling Austin/Jono wiggers/jews.
Then the next stage happens. Someone will mentioned either a highly lauded or highly frowned upon release. People will then concede to the statement, occasionally name dropping a track to prove their opinion. Then they'll ask if anyone has heard a certain demo, followed by another cycle of ridiculously loose 'discussion'.
So yeah that thread is call out. It's antagonistic and that's more or less what we need.
**** you Dethklok. **** you up the ***.

Txus has been a long time contributor to R&M. In addition to creating several threads on the topic of good music and Agalloch, he has a significant number of posts in any Agalloch-related thread. This suggests he is a good back seat moderator and a fanboy.
Txus joined MX in Feb. 2005. He resides in and old cabin(MX, 2007). He has 16.217 posts on MX forums, the vast majority of which are in R&M (MX, 2007). He regularly contributes to a variety of threads, including Folk/Viking Metal thread, the Doom thread, the new Sludge thread, the Black Metal (Joke) thread. This essay aims to investigate the posting habits of Txus and determine whether he is fit for a larger avatar, which he does, and why the **** does he likes fagalloch so much!
In the new Folk/Viking Thread he has 172 posts and in the old one he was reaching probably the 20,000. This implies he has knowledge in the great gods(Oden, 2007).
Txus is always in the big fights that occur all over MX (Black Metal thread) over the year but he is never the one who starts them or is part of any of them therefor he is a bit of a fag or a lazy guy who deserves a big avatar...once again (IDK, 2007). He has also been nominated for RMOTM several times (MX, 2007).
In conclusion, it can be seen that Txus is a worthwhile contributor to R&M and MX as a whole and therefore is deserving of a larger avatar....why does he like fagalloch?

Meh here we go....
I think I deserve to get a small avatar change because of my vs. Issue with Rattle. The albums I sent in were relevant and good, as well as having some pretty good descriptions. In the last month, I have sent in over 40+ albums to the DU, and have helped keep the thread movie as much as I could.
I also try to keep my posting to necessary and high quality standards, stoked conversation in many threads, as well as contributing some decently popular threads. I have also contributed 25 + bands to the review site with artwork, pictures, and track listings, and as you all know, those take some time to do.
So, allmighty mods of Sputnik, I humbly ask for an avatar to repay some of what I have put into this site.
Pt. 2
Allthough Hbp has been prancing the wooded forests of Norse Sputnik for a little over a year now, he has added much magic to the threads and conversations. He has also helped get many albums out into the mainstream of sputnik, and wholly admits he sucks horribly at abstracts, but he has put forth the effort so as to please the allmighty, super, handsome, Mod God's of this mythical land.
With powerful Burzum, Massacre, and Poison The Well reviews under his belt, Hbp works very hard in trying to improve the Sputnik archieves and reivews. His entire exsistance is dedicated to review and posting on the site.
By recruting 3 people to come to the site and join, Hbp is somewhat of a valuable asset to the sputnik community, pressuring his friends to "give their souls to sputnik".

I just don't know what it is....
There are 3 good examples in this thread. Plus proper essay style is 3rd person, formal English.

He's in 9th grade, give the kid a break. That was a pretty typical 9th grade-level essay.
Maybe in North America it is. :-/
And whilst I appreciate his predicament, there is nothing wrong with trying to get Hbp to write at a level above his classmates. If anything it'll help him in his later school years.

He's really set on that shitty Hellraiser avatar huh
Ok, I fixed it up so that it's possibly avatar worthy.
I don't know, Riva, I'm gonna leave this one up to you and possibly Vince :)
You bastard. I'm leaving it all up to Vince, then. I've done what I can. :-/

I deserve a big avatar because I am awesome and have presented mad knowledge on breakdowns since 04.
No abstract + essay + references = too lazy for me to log into the ModCP :(

Jom, I don't feel like doing a formal essay, will a list suffice?
I am a truly brilliant individual, standing out from the crowd with my sheer greatness.
I have contributed countless references to bands that just can't lay off open chugging.
I've pointed a few folks in the direction of musics in my time here.
I've tried on occasion to drop knowledges.
I try to make for light conversation on a regular basis.
I give people screaming advice here and there.
I've been contributing here since October of 2004.
I dance harder than any other regular.
I have like 20 thousand some posts, mostly in R&M.
I've done 9 album reviews and rated 80.
The avatar is part of the cover art for Skycamefalling's demo A Penny For Your Confessions which I really really really like, becoming one of my favorite demos evar tbh.

I don't feel like giving you a big avatar if you don't feel like a formal essay.
Bartender tells me that he gave Hbp a big avatar because, and I quote "I am English and therefore appreciate trying and not succeeding. In future he needs to provide a proper abstract though, which shouldn't be hard as I am sure I have told him at least once before what it is."
Jom, I don't feel like doing a formal essay, will a list suffice?
Nope, because if we let you bend the rules, then everybody will want the same treatment! And that's not fair!

Actually if neither Jom or Riva like your essays I'll ban people for a week.
Because I'm that gay.

NEVER!
Anyway
1. I was outside her house and the bitch called me to tell me her sister was home and told me to fuck off and die so I bought beer and drowned myself in a sea of self-destruction and obliteration.
2. Yeah, I listened to UTSOH. Pretty fuucking good. I had listened to the first 4 tracks from ad majorem sathanas gloriam a while ago, but UTSOH is much, much better.

Yeh he at least tried, and went back and revised after being told it wasn't good enough so A for effort at least. No grade on the actual essay =|
I like Tojes' rule. I'm sort of tired of the haphazard avatar requests.

I have been a member on these boards for three years, and though I have caused a lot of trouble from time to time, overall I'd consider myself a relatively good poster. In my three years posting on this site, I've contributed on many occasions to "official" band discussions such as Opeth, Between The Buried And Me, Dipset, and Avenged Sevenfold, as well as many genre threads, like Any Other Death Heads, Melodeath, and Metalcore. When people ask for recommendations, I'm normally serious and will provide list of bands that [to my ears] sound similar to what the user asking is searching for.
Though it's been a while, I did a few lengthy artist write-ups, and I've contributed nine reviews, and rated eighty albums on the review site. I've also provided/editted information on bands such as Overcast and Through The Eyes Of The Dead on the review site. I'm sort-of useful, I'd say.
Most noticeably though, I'll turn into a good poster during vocal and lyrical discussions, as those are my personal focuses when it comes to music. I've given a few people here in R&M as well as The Jam Session and The Audio Arena tips for warming-up the voice and keeping it healthy in order to scream, as well as advice on increasing range (mostly through warm-ups) and proper technique (in screaming) in itself.
Please moderators, find it in your hearts to give me this Skycamefalling demo cover avatar.

Unvalid references, they don't contain the day they were visited, or the day the author posted.
see: APA internet references
Besides, your past is sketchy and there's proof of your unpleasant behavior.
And mine.
But I suck.
Let's wait for the real modz to give feedback on this.

The dates are on my reviews and so forth, at least.
Besides, your past is sketchy and there's proof of your unpleasant behavior.
I addressed this very early in my "essay."

Haha, thanks Jom. :)
I feel honour-bound to explain a few things:
Essays should almost always be in third-person, unless you are writing your 8th grade speech for class president, or are doing a Bachelor of Arts *s******* at University. Third-person is: "Riva schooled Hbp and Mappy on third-person in an extremely brutal way".
First-person is: "LOL I AM QUEER".
See the difference?
And abstracts are so vital to the essay process. It's not meant to be easy to get a big avatar, so I think Orlando's idea is a good one. If you post an essay with the intention of wheedling a large avatar, either Vince, Jom or I will check over it. If we find it unsatisfactory, we'll give you one chance to edit it. Then if it is still not up to scratch, it's a 3 day holiday to Bantown flying Mod Airlines return.
I'm just doing this because I don't want the forum to end up being chockers with big avatars again. Also: I think a 140x140 limit for the essay-won avatars might be in order.

Not necessarily, it depends on the circumstance. All my essays in my Mass. Comm class are encouraged to be written in the first person. Then again I'm doing a Bachelor of Arts *s*******

The widest I will go for avatars is 170 because it doesn't break the page. However, if its length is extremely clunky, I'm going to ask to cut it down. Something like 128 x 170 is nice for essays.
Otherwise, I agree with my comrades. In Soviet MX, bans mod you!
