I'm opening a record shop/mailorder soon and wanted to know if it would be alright if I posted info about it? This would be mainly in the death heads/doom and black metal threads (becuase that'll be what I'm stocking first)

I appreciate that advertising is generally banned but I do contribute to the forum as well and I would be discrete and not go overboard (ie not posting every single stock update). When I move into more mainstream rock and metal then I will enquire about getting a banner on the site and sponsorship but until then (ie when I actually start making some money!) I can't afford it.

I agree with you 3074326, there have definitely been more active times for this forum, whether it is coincidence that this time period coincides with when there were no official threads I don't know. Some of threads are seriously cyclic though. You get the same random conversation every 5 pages, and some how it perpetuates itself, helped on of course through the fact that several threads are simply sub-forums and little communities where whenever someone says something that's not "correct" a 2 page trolling ensues.

I heard that when number six came out people went as far as being outside bookstores days after it came telling people that that character dies and wearing shirts saying "so and so dies on page # so and so". Get a life, that's just low, gaining satisfaction by ruining so many other peoples fun.

I too read the new one with a quickness. Great end to the series, and I was happy enough to not have it spoiled by some douche bag (since there were already leaks and stuff days before it came out).

i like this. it makes sense. every time we close a thread in a new user's face, they get frustrated and feel that their opinions don't matter. thus, less traffic goes to the boards. just as long as the threads have separate topics, it should be ok, in my opinion. as long as there are not 3 threads floating around on petrucci's sweeps in the glass prison on the front page, this idea should pretty much work.

it also gets new users involved. posting in one of the genre/band community threads at first is kind of intimidating because it's basically a chat room between the same 4 or 5 people. with this system, people can see bands and/or songs and musical components they recognize, and join in the conversation thus giving more traffic and a userbase.

there will be idiots who don't necessarily know what they're doing, and they'll get trolled. it's part of every forum. but i think mass trolling that people have complained about will end with this system as well.

TLDR version; keep threads about individual bands open, as long as they have different topics (i.e one about metallica and cliff burton, and one about metallica and their new album). idiots will be trolled, this is part of forum life, and if they want, the community of the genres can stick to the general threads where they can talk about the genre in general. (as well as, i'm not going to lie, talk about other stuff in general)

Removing official threads is stupid, the forum will be flooded with tons of useless threads every week or two. Making a different thread to discuss each band in a certain genre is absolutely moronic. Sure it will make the forum appear more active but once one of these new threads die, another one on the same band/topic will appear every couple weeks because people don't see a thread that fits on the first couple pages and the idea that everyone will use the search function to dig up old threads is a nice thought but all of us know that won't happen.

You're missing the point completely. The Official threads give NO life to the forum whatsoever. It's like, everything is boxed up in a nice little package. It's also a really elitist system seeing as most new users get either flamed, trolled, or outright ignored in these threads.

Who cares about new threads every so often? It brings life and new opinions to the forums, not the same 6 guys sitting in a thread going "Hey metal is cool." "yeah." "yeah." "yeah." "yeah." "yeah."


I mean, I like some metal bands in a genre and it sucks when I go to threads to talk about them and someone else is like "yeah, that's cool. anyone like [insert underground metal band here]." i usually don't want to post again in fear of the conversation turning away from what i initially expected it to be.


so, i for one, am for the desecration of the official threads and more individual threads.

Where would people looking for recommendations go then? Usually they are directed to the official threads of the genres they are looking into, when those are gone what will be the case. People need to do some thinking.

You were specifically warned and you continued to spam. There's a difference between people coming in, spamming, and stopping when warned and what you did. You spammed after a warning to stop. No reason to complain.
