Agreed. And believe me, the old community thread was a lot worse.

Double posts, "hey, sup?", "hi/bye", single smilies, etc, and general spam isn't acceptable posting, and yet it's still going on - getting worse, in fact - regardless of the efforts of several of the better users (BoboTheRagingHobo, Jom, Cain) or even mods. Well all your mods seem to have gone AWOL recently. No need to apologise, it's a criticism directed at the users, not the mods. I mean, the mods are there to clean up, but the users shouldn't be doing anything that needs cleaning up in the first place.

I'm just thinking guys, I'm not sure we need any more polls in R&M for a while, and when they return, I think I'd only like to see the best song/album/band. The instrument ones were certainly fun, but since we have instrument forums anyway, I feel these polls are encroaching on the province of Guitar/Bass/Drums/Jam Session, etc.
However, thank you very much to all those who ran polls last year, especially YD, who ran two!

This is just my idea, guys, we'll wait and see what the other mods think...
Yeah we should take a break from the polls, I was really into the first poll there was when I was here, but now they seem more boring. It's notthe person running the programs fault, theyve done excellent jobs.

They're illegal now, the music industry has taken action against tablature sites. So, no more mxtabs.net, it has most likely been shut down indefinetly.

I was wondering if it would be OK to start a melo death/technical/folk mailing list?

Yes, actually I was. I was considering doing 1-2 albums per genre (making between 3-6 albums per issue). It would really depend on the stuff I get from the people on the list, but it's a plan nonetheless.
That's not a great idea. Maybe combining the Melo-Death and Technical but keep the Folk Metal one separate. There would be too many people on here who like Melo-Death but not Folk Metal.

Alright I'm asking for approval on a possible "game" thread.
I've seen this thread on another forum where two bands square off in a battle. But it's not just "pick which band you like more and go again", there's more intelleigence to it. What happens is, the battle is placed into a series, something like a "best out of 5", etc. And what happens is posters pick which band they like more, and supply a short paragraph giving insight on why they picked that band. The battle resumes, untill the series is done, and then the poster who completed the series begins a new one. Like so:
Threadstarter: "instructions, etc....Led Zeppelin vs. The Who"
Poster 1: "The Who (1-0) - reason....."
Poster 2: "Led Zeppelin (1-1) - reason...."
Poster 3: "Led Zeppelin (2-1) - reason...."
Poster 4: "The Who (2-2) - reason...."
Poster 5: "Led Zeppelin (3-2) - reason....Next Battle: Megadeth vs. Metallica"
And so on...I'd like to pass this by a mod first, as I'm aware that threads like these are usually against the rules, and are subjected to spam. But if done right, this thread could be useful.

I wanted to review an album on Sputnik, and when I went to review it wasn't listed (Byzantine - ...And They Shall Take Up Serpents), so I am making a new one for them and for the genre thing I'm not sure what to put it under, because they are listed as a groove metal band on Wikipedia, but their is no groove metal category in the ones listed, so what should I place it under?

At sputnik they keep the genres simple. Try to put it to the closest thing to the band, if you cant just put it under Metal.

Something needs to be done. Since nobody reads the rules, make it as an announcement up top. Everyone reads those.

I doubt that the majority of new people are going to read anything that has to do with rules. Most just want to start posting their thoughts. Maybe if there was an announcement that said, NEW USERS COME HERE. But even then the announcement would have to be left up for a long time, MX gets new users almost everyday.

too many little stupid rules looks like these moderators are a bunch of little wannabe pussy rockers who still live at home with mommy or something it sucks here you cant even express your thoughts on music. this is a music forum so lets talk about music. instead of dealing with all these bull**** stupid rules. i agree that people shouldnt fight or nail each others bands but still the rest of these rules suck.

Dear Pantera&Slayer,
If you didn't want people to fight, you should have realised forcing your opinion on them, i.e making a thread of greatest guitarists, was a bad idea.
Also, I do live with my mother, but I'm fairly certain you do too, especially in light of the fact that your lack of basic grammar leads me to believe you are around 12-16. If you are indeed older than this, than I pity you deeply, my poor retarded friend.
Nobody will stop you from talking about music, either, but if you feel that you are too confined by our multitude of rules, then please, feel free to leave. Know that by leaving, you are instantly more immature than the thousand or so regulars that visit R&M daily.
Thank you for your time, Pantera&Slayer. If you feel you can post like a rational person, you may use this account for the two days it takes your other account to come off its ban.

If you don't like the rules, then the only real solution is not to post here. If you stay here for more than a few days though, you'd probably find that the majority of the rules really are necessary.
What is happening? There are tons of new rule breaking threads popping up every day, tons....

What would the announcement say? If it just contained the entire Rules thread, no one would bother reading it. If it said something like "Please go to this thread *link* and read the rules before posting", all you're doing is pointing out a thread that they're going to look at and not bother reading. Besides which it'd just be overshadowed by the next forum-wide announcement that came along.

I don't see where you got the idea that living with my mother equates to my being weak, but ah well. Let's get the facts straight.
I am a 19 year old University student who works 20 hours or so a week to pay for my fees, hence I live at home still to try and save some money on rent. I'm hardly in a position to spend all day on the computer, and in fact I do go outside on many an occasion. I don't consider myself fake at all, I genuinely love music, and hence I believe I have a right to moderate a music forum. As I said before, no one forces you to post here, find somewhere else if you don't like it.
As for you, I'm guessing you are an Australian, since you would be a nerd indeed to be up this late in America or Europe. So, let's set up a meeting point, and I'll see if I can make it there to tell you these things to your face.

He is doing all of this only because he got banned once?
The story of Chad, in a nutshell:
Chad, as Light Fantastic, was a mainstay in Guitar and The Pit.
Chad gets banned by SFK for breaking a rule.
SFK trollbans Chad.
Chad throws a hissy.
Another mod gave Chad another chance to redeem himself, but he broke the rules again.
Here we are today.
Moral of the story: Chad needs to grow up.
Probably so people have to copy the link, open a new internet browser, and enter the site, so their cookies aren't stole by Teh Poonless Avenger or other hackers.

I've got a big problem, his name is Arucard.
Respected member of the forum with 8000 posts does NOT constitute his anus-like behavior. He has been coming into the Bodom thread and mindlessly bashing them in favor of Avenged Sevenfold for over a week now, and apparently does the same in the Metallica thread. This kind of behavior should not be acceptable at all on this forum, veteran or not.
I had to dig back a few pages, but I found a couple posts.
Part of me says that that's his nature (because it is), but I gave him a quick warning not to ruin your guys' thread with his comparisons and obvious elitism. He knows how to get a hold of me to vent if he needs to; he shouldn't take it out on you guys or your thread.

Ok, i left it, i'm leaving it and i won't bring it up again, because i'm not posting in R+M again for a while. I have obvious reasons, and although i don't want to sound like an elitist prick (even though i am going) the stupidty of people regarding what hardcore is and what metalcore is and what emo is was a LARGE contributing factor for my decision to leave it for a while. Yes, stupidity angers me. You know what else angers me? Threads where a bands musical credibility cannot be questioned because people get angry. At the minute, all the new official threads are doing is providing a place for idiots to circle jerk about how good Alexi is, or how good Avenged Sevenfold are, or how much they want to bone the singer of Nightwish.
A7X are flawed, yes, but saying FALSE things about them, such as claiming their guitarist is not very good is just ridiciulous. Its a FACT that hes good, if you listen to any of the rythmn or lead stuff he does he blows nearly everyone in the current more 'mainstream' metal scene out of the water. You guys calling them fags is also not a reason to dislike their music. I came into the CoB thread because you were mindlessly bashing them, and i gave reasons why i disliked CoB, yet i get threatened with a ban? I must have made all of 6 or so posts in there. If all this forum is going to be is a chance for people to get each other off with no arguments or criticism of bands, then i have no place in it for the time being.
CoB guys : I apologise that i was so harsh, but you didn't see us mindlessly bashing bands in our thread, and if we bashed a band we gave reasons. I also recognize that Avenged Sevenfold have musical flaws, but you saying 'they look like fags' just doesn't cut it with me.
Yah thats about it, end of story i guess.
And wooooh, wait a second? When the hell was i bashing in the Metallica thread?
