I think there should be a thread about genres. A person would ask what genre a band is, and the threadstarter could edit it into the first post. I.E
Melodic Death Metal:
Kalmah
In Flames
Norther
Power Metal:
Sonata Arctica
Stratovarius
Blind Guardian
And everytime someone wanted to know what genre a band was, the threadstarter could edit it in to whatever genre they are.
The only problem is that alot of flaming would probably go on, arguing about genres.

Yea to much arguing, and their are to many biased people to be able to have a serious discussion, then It just ends up getting closed. Their was different genres of metal thread a while ago though.

I'm curious as to why I was banned for saying something nice about David Draiman. What was the big deal?
As much as I hate eliminating a fan thread due to the presence of a boring "official" thread, I'm wondering whether this (http://www.musicianforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=415494) is necessary due to the presence of the Power Metal Arcana and related threads. I'm not trying to be a big dick about it though, I was just wondering if it should stay or if it should go.

How I even won a nomination is beyond me, really, at that time. And I want nothing to do with this forthcoming group, either, heh.

Any way we can cut away the more immature parts of this user's poll idea (i.e. labeling of Staind as "whiny rock") and expand on it, through advice and/or mod approval? Man this forum is very shallow and unsatisfying. I hope you have fun when you antagonize somebody and have a flamewar. A flamewar is not the point of a forum, neither is pointing out that someone is stupid or trying to make them feel inferior. I hope all of you grow up someday and stop trying to convince people in a metal forum to open their minds. If we wanted to do something, why would we listen to some "ninja-pirate" anyways? Just becuase I have a low post-count doesn't mean jack. For the most part, you guys are all assholes so sayonara. I honestly don't care what you call me or say about me once I'm gone because I'm never visiting this site again. All I try and do is give my justification for why I think a certain way, which is not the way you think. Then I get ridiculed, name-called, and flamed for it. Am I right? On this entire site, I have not encountered a single thread that has not had something negative said towards another poster. Instead of ridiculing or name-calling you should inform people. I am moving on back to my home forum where they are not as closed minded to new posters and to people who are not as knowledgeable about rap as you guys supposedly are. They are actually nice and helpful, and totally devoid of flamewars.
Bottom Line: I feel bad for this forum becuase for the most part, the posters with higher counts feel superior to people who are new. That is stupid to have an "internet ego." I try and say what I think, and wham - I get ridiculed. I hope you all can try to find something to do with one less scapegoat to flame. Peace out you guys and good luck in this forum.

You just have to learn to not take anything that anyone says too seriously. Like you said, it's the internet. If someone wants to make fun of you for liking a certain thing, you obviously realize how stupid that is. Those who have common sense on this forum also realize this, you just have to deal with it.

how much rep points do you have to get to become a MOD
You can't become a mod because of rep you can get stars if you have 1000 rep (which means you then have the ability to rep people). You have to be given modship by admin.

By doing things that help out the community, you can also get neg repped for spamming or making bad posts.

And how do you get reps????
Usually by being a helpful user, making really good threads or being an informative poster. You can get neg repped for being dumb, saying something like "<Band Name> sucks etc..." or being really stupid.
Could a mod sticky this (http://www.musicianforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=417394) please.

You don't have to have a certain number of posts. Click " New Thread " at the top left of the forums. Make sure you read the rules first, and make sure there isn't already a thread on the band you were doing. :thumb:
EDIT: another question, how many posts do i have to have before i can make a thread? It's nothing to do with how many posts you have. You have to be a registered member for at least 24 hours before making threads. This was in the registration email that was sent to you.

Indeed, this bio is taken from the official site and it is said so on the sing365 page. Anyway, I dont think anyone accused you of stealing this text. In fact it was made clear that you probably used it as your basis and used some specific phrases after you altered them. :)

Dr. Jake Destructo
11-26-2005, 12:20 PM
I don't think a merge would work that well, because merging confuses people. I think a mod could take all of the info from king of terror's thread, (the names, a/s/l stuff) and post it in the first post of the Sandwich Bar. That would be kind of cool, I think. Just a thought. Perhaps links to the R&M map and the photo album could go there too.

Like is there a certain member who annually does a best of list?

This is because I'm very annoyed by the people who post "This is illegal" in threads where the threadstarter has already been informed. For example:

I was just wondering because I read the rule in the nominations thread about N00bs must have a registration date of september 2005.
The competition does not mean it in a derogatory term. "NURMOTM" (New User Rock and Metaler of the Month) just doesn't have that same acronymic ring as "NRMOTM" (n00b rock and metaler of the month) does.
As a general answer: more often then not, yes, postcount and joindate often dictate whether or not one is a new user or not. The glaring exceptions would be, for me, this account's inception in August 2004. New joindate? Yes. New user? Not exactly.
And I'm sure I'm not the only one who has had a previous account here.
A noob in the nominations thread is determined by joindate, as it is described in said thread.
Jom, we're not pointing any fingers.

The community thread didnt seem spammy to me.
Hm. Well, in the very least, you've learned well in terms of being completely vague when giving answers as a mod :p
Look, I understand that it was getting big and all, but it was on, what, 47,### or so? If it was getting all that out of line, I'm sure someone would have said something. Bartender was rather blunt about it the first time around. I'm not encouraging his bluntness again, but surely a post reminder would have suited the thread just fine.
It's a side-effect of being absorbed into the mod overmind.
Oh ok. I understood everything except for derogatory and acronymic :p
Thanks though.
Acronymic isn't a word, to my knowledge. I just made it up for kicks.
An acronym is an abbreviation, basically.
For example:
National Football League = NFL
National Basketball Association = NBA
National Hockey League = NFL
Super Extreme Xylophoners = SEX
The acronym takes the first letter of each word. See?
Derogatory is an adjective used to show a noun being defamed, insulted, disparaged, or spited against (does that make sense?).
For example, calling a homosexual (or anyone, for that matter) a "faggot" is derogatory (it's implied that it wasn't said in jest).

What's this jibba jabba I hear about the community thread?
as in:
How freaking bad was the spam?
Will it be re-opened?
Will there be a new one?
Why can't you just give out bans for spamming it?

Now now mods...you close the comm thread "for spam" and create a new one you guys spam up? Tsk tsk, elitism. :p
(Unless you're actually serious about closing the comm thread for spam in which case wtf?)
It's not fair that we have to wade through the posts of the regular scum to see our holy words. Be serious, Vince.

True, but then there are good posters like me you miss out on.
I think the only way to rectify this issue is to mod me... <_<

Someone needs to take a needle to this windbag. He's spamming up the new Lamb of God thread with a lot of pointless attacks on not only the band, but also people who listen to LoG. Apparently, he's operating under the delusion that his taste in music makes him the superior being.

It's in the Jam Session - hang on a moment.
Official Singing/Voice thread (http://www.musicianforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=370155)
Be sure to check the rest of The Jam Session for other specific threads, but the one I just linked you to would be your best bet.

He got seven days. Going into a community thread like that and calling the band "gay" = ban.

That gates of heaven guy is almost a gimmic, he has been banned many times then just comes back and spams up more. If he does it again he should be permed.
