I would just keep an eye on him. He was .:thrashman:. or something like that. And all he did was post one word posts and typed with horrible grammar. Out of no where in the Slayer the thread he posts his email. Though I think it was for the Thrash Mailing List when I announced that Slayer's Reign In Blood would be on it.

A post, for my sanity.
Looking at Dargon's thread, I thought that the community in this thread was bad, but it seems that Rock & Metal is a cess-pit for uptight left-wing large bundle of stickss, especially Jom and Bobo, over-tolerant hippy ****s that are trapped inside that childish phase where they believe that opinions are worth anything.
That is a matter of opinion and I cannot criticise you for it.
Odd how that works.

Well i wanted to change the title to the Iced Earth thread ???
The questions mark look pretty weird and bad, but i dont know what to change it to.
I feel pretty stupid asking this, but, how do you link a thread ?
You select the address in the bar at the top of your browser window, then press ctrl-c.
Once you are posting, you press ctrl-v. And then the thread will link.
As for the Iced Earth thread, do you want something like "R&M's Inferno (Iced Earth)"?

Just because the threads that promote no discussion, get closed doesn't mean every thing is against the rules. The reason the forums are so tight is because it the INTERNET if it was real life we could beat you up everytime you made a bad thread, but we can't so thats why we have to ban people and close threads that is why the forum are really tight, if you don't like it, join another forums. It's the internet deal with it.

Those rules eliminate the threads that start the very flame wars that you complain about. If we allowed the threads that are illegal in the rules, the forum would turn into its old state - terrible. It's at a very good point. The community is great, there are very few massive flame wars anymore, and there is a lot of quality discussion going around.
The point of this forum is to discuss music with some form of intelligence, not to argue that Zakk Wylde can crush Bruce Dickenson with his voice, or that Tool is better than A Perfect Circle because A Perfect Circle "sux dik." We don't like those discussions, so we make them illegal. Those are where those threads end every time. I've been here long enough to tell you this with some credibility.
See where I'm going?

their are rare exceptions when that thread will be legalized, if they just ask who do you think is better? then yea it's going to get closed but that's not the case this time. The reason it will not get closed because threadstarter has a good argument and has something to debate about, song writing abilities and musicianship. And they are both great bands (Mettalica was)

You need to remember that this is the internet, so there is a lot more flexibility in the rules here then out there. (:p) The rules are more for new posters who have little forum expirience. The majority of those rules are common sense rules, anyways. After you've been here a while, you'll start interpreting the rules differently. Basically, if you do something intelligently, you'll be fine doing it.

I got neg repped in this thread by Steerpike because I posted my opinion:

He has an inferiority complex apparently, and takes it out on the members of the board.
He explained why you got negged, though. You trashed the genre even though the threadstarter asked that people don't.

I didn't trash it. "Simple-minded" isn't necessarily a bad thing. And second of all, there are way worse posts than mine in that thread, and they didn't even get critisized. He just has something against me.

Please listen to it and tell me what the name of the rythem is, you can download it from this link, it will download in 2 seconds: http://s22.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=30NQSGMLGK2VK0NIDOKHTORDPA

What does it mean when a thread is stickied ?
Daven
11-12-2005, 05:36 PM
It means that a thread is at the top of the page and it doesnt needs to be bumped because its stickied at the top. The thread will remain there until a mod un-stickies it, that's when people needs to bump it to keep it alive. Threads are stickied because people dont post on them very often so they wont fall to page 2 or three. Or because the thread is too important to be unstickied, like the rules thread.

It's insignificant compared to other things going on right now.

Soft deletions remove post count just as much as hard deletions do, though. The only difference is that they can't be restored at some point in the future, which they never are anyway.

Vs. thread.

It's not really a vs. thread, but the question has been answered anyway.

I dunno if its something thats not my buisness but is it possible to check someone elses Rep points ?

No. You can get a vague idea by going to the members list and sorting by reputation, but it won't tell you another's exact rep score.

Oh ok. How can you get repped though ?
And what happens when you press the report bad post?
Oh ok. How can you get repped though ?
Being helpful and constructive around the forums, being respectful in correspondence, being approachable. Those are really the big three/four.
Certainly, there are other ways one can achieve rep, but they're (for the most part) frowned upon. This includes whining to mods or whoring for rep points.
Keep in mind that one can be negatively repped as well. It's the same as positive rep, just with negative repercussions (derrhrrhrr).
And what happens when you press the report bad post?
Nothing, as it's disabled.
Hope that was helpful.

Yeah, so... when I finished my lit test, I had an idea of how to make the Vs. Threads work, you know, to avoid other garbage and such.
1. Bands for "Vs" are voted in a special thread (say, the one that's already on...), and every week/2 weeks/month, the "Vs" thread is closed and changed for the new one, for diversity sakes.
2. Annoying users and unconstructive posts are bannable offences, sure, so it should be clarified in the first post, or something.
3. I was thinking about "team formations" or team leaders, but considering this is an open forum, that'd be useless, as everyone are allowed to talk about whatever they wish.
4. I was also thinking of leaving the "Vs" voting thread on, so that it moves fluidly, and give each "Vs" a determined time. When the time is up, the thread is closed, and the new one comes.
It may work... Or it could be in a tournament manner... but that'd be much, much more trouble. :-/

If for example I want to send a song to someone by email, how do I do that ?
Get their email, then open your email account, and send it to them.

It depends on the way you want to send it, you can choose "attach a file" and then you choose the song you want to send and then wait until it finishes uploadingand then send it.
Or you can send it using YSI, which IMO is easier and faster.

Browse for the file and hit "Send it!"
Adding an e-mail is optional, since you will get a confirmation link after the file is stored on the server. It is ideal, though, that you just get a hold of the person whom you wish to send a file's e-mail address.

I think there should be some kind of amendment to the rules saying something like this:
#. If you go into an illegal thread that was started by someone who may not have known any better, and proceed to flame him for "being a n00b," you will be subject to punishment(just as much, or more than the original threadstarter/poster). Instead, help this user out by either quickly answering a simple question, or nicely pointing him in the right direction, whether it be an official thread, the rules, etc...
Lately, I've seen lots of new users get flamed, or just just told something like "rules, dumbass" for something that the new user did that may have been against the rules. Still, if they're new to the forums, we should still give them a chance at learning before we scare them away for good. They could be the next Riva! (Sucking up lolol)
If you think I'm a dumbass for wanting such a thing, then whatever, but I think it would be a good idea.

STFU OMG MAKING SUGGESTIONS TO HELP HELPS NO ONE URR JUST TRYING TO LOOK SPECIAL AND PRETTY FOR TEH REP NO ONE CARES R+M IS FINE THE WAY IT IS.
Actually, I'm behind this one-hundred percent. I can't believe it hasn't been edited into the rules already.
It is in the rules...
1. No creating posts or threads specifically for flaming another person or for flaming/slamming bands. If you're going to say some band or some artist sucks, explain why. If you can intelligently explain why you hate a certain band, we will generally leave your post alone. This rule applies to replies about bands in threads. If you post "Van Halen sucks" in a Van Halen thread, your going to be temp. banned.
16. Do not post in spam threads/threads that violate the rules; the thread starter will be banned along with the posters.
However, I will start enforcing it, if you like. It's just sometimes hard to tell when one is a newbie or just a bastard.

It makes it easier to report it by clicking the number in the right hand corner of the post, then it just shows the individual post rather then the whole thread.

I know. I re-read the rules before I posted what I said up there just to double check that there wasn't a rule in place, and it didn't really sound that clear to me that something like that was illegal, but thanks for planning on reinforcing it. :) You too, Jenny-tals.
