Needless trolling in the Beatles thread...99% of his posts come from two threads (two Final Fantasy threads in Video Games and Movies) and is rarely ever in R+M, and came into the Beatles thread just to say that. It would be appreciated if a mod (but not SonorKen, because he's gay and no one likes him :p just kidding) would put him in his place.

Why did all the official threads get renamed 'the rock and metal thread'?

Quick question. With all the Official tags being removed, is it still against the rules to have two threads on one band? or to have a thread asking for recommendations? Just wondering if we should still report things the same way as when all the Official stuff was still around.

It's always been illegal to make a thread when a larger one was still around. So just keep linking them to the bigger one, etc.
Why did all the official threads get renamed 'the rock and metal thread'?
The mods decided for a less flashy title for the threads, to reduce people wanting this or that thread to be official.

I really don't see the problem in the flashy ***Official*** threads.
I think almost every thread that should ever be made official was official.
and it's not like the forum is overfloated with people asking for threads to become official.
but I don't think we're getting the old titles back I suggest:
bold titles
CAPITAZLIZED titles
all official threads stickied ( but this would mean a complete make over of the layout of the site, by creating more threads on one mainpage)
a subforum as politics and sports and videogames at the top of the R&M section.
-------
anyways, the threads most be easily recongnizable(sp?)
cause badly recognizable '' official'' threads will not be seen by a lot of (newer) posters, and thus resulting in loads of: I didn't see a thread on " ...... " , so I've decided to make one

The mods just didn't like the look of the ***OFFICIAL*** and it spurred alot of new users to create their own official threads.
Formatting, such as bold and italics, doesn't work in thread titles.
We'll never ever have enough space to get all of the official threads stickied.
No subforums should be added to R&M, it doesn't need to be segregated anymore.

or it comes up with no results beacause your entry is too common, or you get 5 pages of results.

Actually it's aimed at "hermz".

Either use broader terms, or make your search more specific. It works fine for me.

The search function doesn't work for me either. When I search the forum, usually things like the YSI or community thread appear.
The following words are either very common, too long, or too short and were not included in your search: of, a, Down

You'll get results.

Stick to the classifieds.

Also, on renaming the official threads and the threads like the Classic Rock thread etc.. do you guys think we should create a thread specifically for dealing with this transistion? I am worried if we do it in this thread it will get covered up or cover up problems. Lets hear some suggestions.

Me and some of the guys in the Metallica thread were talking about doing online bands and stuff. Is there a way we can get a thread for that. I wanted to ask before I posted anything.
How I was thinking of doing this is, using audacity and a mic, we record our original song ideas and then upload them to the other band members. The other band members
implement that (riff/motiff/ etc.) into audacity and record their stuff over it.
Maybe we could break up the bands by style of music. Thrash has it's own thing, Death and Black metal have theirs, etc.
Opinions?

Yeah, a competition was created which planned to pit the covers done by regulars of official threads against each other but it didn't really get anywhere due to a lack of activity on behalf of most parties.
I guess that just a R&M forum band could be done, possibly.

It seems a waste to spend time on such a good thread when mostly people who already know how to post will read it. If it were inserted into the rules, just briefly, with maybe something along the lines of :
"For a guide on how to make good threads, click here"
"For some great posting tips click here."
Just a suggestion though, take it for what it's worth.

Yeah, I'm saying that we start a band online, do original songs, not covers, create a setlist, record the songs, upload them into a thread, have a poll between the different bands, the winner gets to move to the next round. The grand prize band gets like a bunch of pos. rep or something.

Upload a track or two if you really must, I doubt many people who didn't vote Jane's are going to spend their time downloading a full album.

SonorKen
08-26-2005, 09:59 PM
The important thing with the rules is for people to look for the UD (update) tag in the name of the thread. This lets ALL the users know when the rules have been updated.
As far as new members, usually you guys kind of give them direction as to how to post, you guys kick ***!

It seems we have some problems with inactive moderators. DBJ and I worked up this policy and it will ultimately help out the forum tremendously.
If a moderator does not log into MX for a solid month, and their absence is noted in the forum they moderate by user complaints and extra workload placed on other mods, that mod will be sent an email.
After this email is sent then the mod in question will have 2 weeks to reply to the situation and remedy it. If the mod does not reply after the 2 week period then they can be replaced.
There are exceptions to this. If a moderator KNOWINGLY is going to be gone, like SuperPeers computer problem or Bartenders month long holiday, then this policy would not apply to them.
Also, if the moderator is replaced, and becomes active again, they would be eligible for the next available moderator posistion providing they are still behaving like a moderator.

Ken: I like this Policy but like Liberi mentioned, it will be important how we define inactivity, but this is good news. Luckily though in R&M we seem to have a full and devoted staff so it's unlikely to affect this fourm much. :)
Yes, R&M actually got lucky in the mod department, which is fortunate, considering the morons who inevitably log onto this forum. :-/

All of the above, and in addition just setting a good example, helping the mods out, contributing to the community. The problem with a lot of ysi helpers is I rarely see them anywhere else in the forum, and good users contribute all over, not just in one thread. It' be like being the most knowledgeable person in the Tool thread. Sure you help there, but that doesn't make you a good user in all of R&M...

Would anyone have a problem if I posted a biography/article (my own writing if there is any confusion) on John Bonham in R&M? I was concerned for two reasons:
-I didn't want to do an article on Led Zeppelin because they have been covered in Med's FA and almost everyone is familiar with them.
-Which led me to focusing mostly on Bonham and his drumming over his career, which could go into D&P I suppose since R&M isn't concetrated on just one instrument.
I'm sort of torn about whether I should post it. Since it's about drumming it doesn't seem like something worthy of R&M, but since he is a rock drummer and a rock legend in some senses and that is mainly what I discuss, it could warrant being posted here.

This should go into the Guitar Forum. This thread is really for asking questions about R&M and trying to make it better.
Also a suggestion, read the rules in every forum you post in before you do, it will help you a lot.

Okay, ban this guy please. He's the one whos been ruining the black metal thread for many members. This post is clearly racist, and I think it deserves a ban.

Here's a suggestion...
How about if there was a sub-forum in R&M where people are able to post their own threads regarding these new INFO posts.
I just thought of this cuz recently everyone figures themselves a poet and made a series. I think that its getting rather clutered in R&M. Maybe we could make one for all the Official Threads?
This would make for a time-saving affair and also inlighten new users as to where these threads are so that they don't continue making new threads regarding Official status bands.
I know most people here are not inclined to opening new sub-forums. But take for what it is, and let me know what you think.
Suggestion : New sub-forum where users can post their Info-series's and Official Threads.

It would be too complicated to have numerous conversations running at the same time. I think FA series are fine as they are since we get more intelligent threads this way.

If you do that then you may as well make a seperate forum for all of the stickies, all of the music trading threads, etc...
Dividng R&M up would kill it so it really, Really shouldn't happen.

I am posting this response in regards to a post by Jake in the R&M'er of the month thread about selecting users for stars.
I think if SonorKen selected 10 users he thought were worthy of stars and put them into a poll, we could let MX users vote for their top 5. The users would be appropriate as SonorKen has chosen them. Also they have been selected by the people of MX.
Or we could of course just leave it as it is and let SonorKen select freely.
