If the other forums told you to jump off a cliff and onto jagged rocks below without a harness or bungee cord, would you do it?

In short: we don't care what the other forums do. If you have a problem with it, then GO TO THE OTHER FORUMS.

The letters above the lyrics are the chords.

For example, A = 002220, Em = 022000, C = x32010, D = xx0232, G = 320033, and so on.

You have to listen to the song for strum pattern and timing.

Well, you have to know the tab for the chords. I gave them to you in my first response to you.

For example:

To play Em, take your first finger and fret the A-string, 2nd fret. Take your middle finger, and fret the 2nd fret on the D-string.

So, the chord would look like:

E|0
B|0
G|0
D|2
A|2
E|0

or 022000. Got it?

Which is what people do when they ask for stuff in the recommending music thread. You've done this before, with the MX Hall Of Fame, which was only different on the surface (not even that, actually) to the RMOTM competition.

I thought it would be ok, but I wanted to get clearance from the top dogs first.

If you have to question whether or not you should post an article or not, well, I don't see why you would have to think that.

Just because others have a similar style and premiered their articles in such a manner doesn't mean that you have to feel like your contributions aren't wanted.

Besides, Steerpike is a great guy, he's not going to hold a grudge if you write your articles, provided that you don't try to walk all over his articles like larsagi tried to do with Vince's and Riva's threads and failed miserably.

The full-album uploading is frowned upon here, obviously, because of the rule in the YSI thread, yet people upload full albums in other threads here anyway.

So, it's your call.

EDIT to below: I think it's good that you're posting a first one as an experiment.

Thats why I was curious, I didn't want to cause a problem. I'll go ahead and post the first one, and see what kind of reaction it gets. They are different from Steerpike and Riva's threads, and I think people might like the chance to listen to new albums.

Don't worry. Official threads can always be bumped, and most of the larger threads can be bumped as long as you have a useful/informative reply to make. (And they aren't 6 months old or something).

Bartender

Yeah, most official or otherwise important threads can be bumped, provided it's for a halfway decent reason. It's just everyday, trivial threads that don't need to be bumped for last year.

This is a question for the mods: I've been rather inspired by the high-quality FAs and the composition contests in R+M. I have recently felt a desire to introduce some of the R+M people to artists that I care very deeply about but which I do not think get much recognition. The catch: I feel like the artists I have in mind are really not really rock or metal, bordering instead on things like New Age and Celtic. Examples of artists I'd like to cover are Michael Hedges, William Ackerman, Jeff Johnson + Brian Dunning, and Nightnoise, among others.

However, the reason I think this would work best in R+M is because of the ways these players and their musical styles influence the power metal and other operatic-type rock sounds we hear. I think it would serve R+M's community quite well, for instance, to actually learn about modern Celtic music in a way that's somewhat severed from the obvious Celtic/classical leanings of much modern melodic metal, such as power metal and progressive metal. This would help listeners dissect the influences found in their music and gain a more well-rounded knowledge of what they listen to, ideally. Michael Hedges, of course, is something of a rock star in the acoustic world himself, and Will Ackerman practices an ethereal form of acoustic guitar that cerebral metalheads and light-classic-rock fans alike might enjoy and use as influences. Given the technical term for their style of music, I understand that these artists should probably go in "Other Music" rather than here, but that forum is a relative deadzone compared to here, and I would really like to give these artists and musical styles exposure.

Of course, if it fails in the attempt, I'll quit, but I was wondering if I could have a mod's blessing so I could attempt it. I know for a fact that plenty of users have a passing interest in Celtic music in particular and I think it would be a good idea to give them some artists to check out.

Jom

I for one would love to see more semi-FA like threads around here. I think that Steerpike, Riva, RCA, ect have made posting in R&M much more respectable. I think that more threads like these can only better the intergrity around here.

Hi, you may guess who it is, its Spankyoplank and I have a bloody good excuse for the thread last night. IT WASN'T ME. I know most of you won't believe me but it was my friend, he did it while I was in the bath last night and I had absolutely no idea about it until I tried to log on today and found out i was banned. I'm really sorry if my friend insulted you people, you guys no I'm not a bad poster, the only negative rep I've ever had before was for sucking up to the drummers in the drummers forum bit. I know you probably won't believe me but please try and if you could, could you re-activate my account because I don't want to be a n00b again and I feel (a bit) like people know who I am. My friend last night actually got up to 500th post which I was dead pleased about but really annoyed in the same way. I can understand why you banned me (I am teh ace..etc.) but I hope you could unban me even f just to give a chance to explain myself properly.

I really don't think it would be worth it. You know how this place is. Nothing against you, but I don't see an apology thread getting very far.

If I were you, I'd wait until I was unbanned and go back to posting like normal. If anyone asks you about it, explain the situation. I honestly don't think anyone will remember though.

Yeah, you've got a point, I'll just use this to vote for the bassists and if anyone asks I'll explain, if I have to do that a few times, everyone who really cares will see.

Thanks a lot for your help.

Okay, I noticed that Jake has created an R&M Soulseek Thread (http://www.musicianforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=362649). As much as I like Jake, and admire his posting, I feel it would be better for the forums if we edited the AIM trading thread to be the Instant Messenger/P2P Trading Thread. If a user were to create the MSN trading thread, it would mean three seperate threads all serving the same purpose: setting up direct trades between users.

The YSI thread is different in purpose, in that it provides indirect request/answer type sharing (loosely used in this case). However, if a mod could change the name of Pig's AIM trading thread to the one mentioned above, it could make it a lot easier to find a person with an album you need. In the future, we could actually edit Pig's first post to include the various handles of people who like to share, etc.

What do you think?

Stoic
07-09-2005, 05:58 AM
This is a cool idea although the R&M Soulseek Thread is more for "exchanging" soulseek user names.

Riva

Stoic

aha, I understand and agree. An all in one thread would be better since threads like R&M Soulseek Thread are by definition out of the main discussion theme (rock and metal artists)

The general Mod consensus is; No More official threads.

Okay, I noticed that Jake has created an R&M Soulseek Thread. I asked a few times but nothing ever came of it so I don't think anything will happen.
I never actually got an aswer though, so even a definite 'no' would be nice.
