Hey, so if anyone was interested in continuing my concert thread, here's a .txt file of all the text I had in there to save you some time, if no one wants to do it :'( But yeah, if you want to here (http://s27.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=3PTK8TDVDCJHJ2EQ2WBR9LU87T) is a way to make it easier :)

So, I've heard many different things as far as the next 'greatest whatever'. What's gonna happen?

I know Iai was originally going to do an Ultimate modern rock band, but I rarely see him in R&M nowadays. I think I heard Schyma talking about doing another poll, and I also heard people wanting a break from the polls, so I'd like some input from all of you guys. I'd be willing to do the modern rock one if Iai doesn't want to and if you guys wouldn't mind that.

Just give me some feedback. :thumb:

My first one is a '**Official** What is the name of that song? thread' because there are far too many of these threads. My second idea is a '**Official** Ask questions not worthy of a thread' (the name needs re-thinking) because I see too many threads saying 'when is the new foo fighters album out?' threads and these questions are hardly worth making a thread about.

Wow, there's only been 4 reports in a whole day. That's pretty impressive.

Anyway, I'm just checking about the Modern Rock Band poll I'm doing. Mostly, when will it start?

Also, I'd like to check whether everyone's okay with exactly what is deemed 'modern'. I suggested a while back that it should be decided by the year of a band's debut album - I think the year that most people seemed to agree with was 1988. That includes Soundgarden and The Pixies, but excludes Guns N Roses, if my memory serves me correctly.

Talk to Schyma, I suppose, and see when he plans to finish up the Guitarist one. You might also want to talk to YDload, since he's started planning a 100 greatest bassists. To let him know you're still going on with modern rock, if nothing else.

Talk to Schyma, I suppose, and see when he plans to finish up the Guitarist one. You might also want to talk to YDload, since he's started planning a 100 greatest bassists. To let him know you're still going on with modern rock, if nothing else.

Title should be changed so it relates somewhat to the topic of current discussion. I think the idea of each person's music tastes growing up is a good topic, but the title doesn't relate to it at all.

Edit: Nevermind, someone just made a thread on personal musical history.

There will be no more official threads made by the mods in R&M. If you made it well, the other users will link to it for any Lamb of God threads made. If you didn't put enough information in it, people will let it die. Besides, I don't really see that many threads made about them anyway.

Eh...It's hard.
If people start getting banned for first offence stupidity then the backlash the Mods would recieve would be awful.
Jim certainly isn't up for it.
Other than banning them there isn't much that can be done.
Bans don't serve a purpose anyway, what with banned users just coming back under a second account.

Bear in mind that Jazz & Funk is a different forum to R&M, so the rules here don't necessarily apply there (at least, not all of them). They should still be a good guide though. The mod there is a good guy.

I think this is something that could be useful to R&M. Alt. & Indie have a thread dedicated to posting the slsk user names of various MXer's. If people in R&M get behind this idea I think it would be pretty useful, and would also eliminate a lot of the easy-to-find requests in the YSI thread, thus making it more managable for Antihero. Take a look below to see how it's working in A&I

Also a good idea. The thing I like most about the A&I thread though is that it's two threads. One where the users who would be willing to be downloaded from post their slsk names. The second thread consists of one updated post, containing list of all mx user names and their slsk identies. This would make it really easy for people with similiar musical tastes to share with each other.

In theory it's a good idea but I don't know how it would work in R&M.
We already have so many stickies so it couldn't really be stuck, and a thread like that doesn't generate a lot of posting over a long period of time so it would most likely sink through the pages.

Thats not really a problem. All it would need is a link to it in the rules, and then it could float down as many pages as it likes. The actual list of slsk names would be in a closed thread that only a mod could post in. Get my drift?

Yea, eventaully the thread would just disappear and barely anyone new would pick up names/add to the thread from a link in the rules thread as most people don't read it.
It's probably a good idea to have a list though.
And I'd imagine that your idea has been read, just not commented on.

Go ahead. I was planning on doing 1984 at some stage, but I'm going to Italy for a week starting on Friday, and what major things I have been doing around here have been directed at sputnik, rather than the main forums. Just make it good, k? ;)
How many albums do you want me to do? I have 4 done right now, but I know I need to do some more. What would be a good amount?

I could be wrong, but my recommendation for this is that the rules may be expanded to include this under the "fantasy band" rule, since it's in effect a "fantasy tour" thread and will likely elicit few discussion-provoking points other than "wow, that show would be great" or "that show would suck." It seems fairly pointless. Perhaps I am simply missing the point, however. :)

No.

By downloading something from YSI on MX, users agree to the following:

1) No music files are hosted on MX; instead, they are hosted on YSI.
2) Music is for promotion basis only: a) to learn about a band, b) to promote (duh) a band, or c) to allow users the chance to listen to music not available on places such as MySpace, PureVolume, or SoundClick.
3) Users will support the bands by buying their albums.
4) Once you obtain a YSI-hosted file, it is the user's complete responsibility.

Hey, since me and a few other guys in the Metallica thread have decided to make a cover song, other Official threads want to make a song as well. Maybe each thread could have a cover and then we can have a contest or something?

This seemed like a cool idea to a lot of people. I know that people in Tool, Opeth, and Megadeth have talked about it.

If we are going to do this, I would be happy to run it.
