Ok, I heard Bartender saying how the community thread may be closed due to continous spamming, and large amounts of posts... Would it not make sense to make a thread in the rock and metal forum, saying R&M chatroom, Lock it so no users other than mods can post in it, and just put a link to a chatroom in it???? It solves the server space problem, it solves the spam problems, its 1000000% easier to speak in a chatroom... just type it in and press enter, I don't know what you guys think, but i think its a logical idea.....

Can I suggest something.

I think that somebody should close the Official Metallica thread. It's getting too much like a chat room and the same stale topics keep coming up again. I know it's inevitable that the same topic will come up eventually, but it seems like it comes up everyday there.

Perhaps a new one could be made with a Metallica FAQ at the start also, cause too many people ask when the new album is coming out and things like what songs Dave Mustaine contributed on. Also that the solos on Kill 'Em All weren't Kirks...I'm getting bored of saying it. With an FAQ, at least it'd be in the first page.

Thank you.

If you close one then you may as well close them all, because every official thread has essentially turned into a general discussion thread (sometimes about the band, sometimes not). I know most aren't as stagnant as the Official Tallica thread though.

I can see your point on that, but I still think I have a valid point. All the other 'Official' threads from what I see seem to run smoothly. Perhaps it's cause the Metallica thread attracts so many fanboys and people who can't spell for beans, I don't know.

Anyway, was only a suggestion.

well generally the official 'Tallica thread runs smoothly, only with the odd exception.
But if you want to close it because it's turned into a general discussion thread instead of its original purpose then I believe I have a point, or at least so I'd like to think :)

What should happen, is that all Official threads get re-named so that they no longer state 'Official' in the title.

Let's face it, at least 50% of the idiots in R&M manifest their idiocy through making their own Official threads. Take away the Official title, and that idea won't enter their heads in the first place.

The rules should then say 'Don't make threads about these bands:' and list the bands that used to have Official threads.

We kind of need a Mod's input soon.
They could either take the approach that you suggested or they could just keep the ex-official threads as general discussion threads on the band, since the majority of the discussion is good in most of them as is the community, and allow other threads to be made on the bands that already have these threads. The rule of "Do Not make any official threads" still stand.
I guess a problem then arises in whether or not you allow more discussion threads to be created, as it's essentially the same problem as creating official threads but I'm sure that can be sorted out.
As you said, if you take "Official" out of the title then people won't feel spurred to make their own threads, and when they see these massive threads on certain bands they won't be able to draw certain conclusions.

Jom
04-13-2005, 06:50 AM
In the Rules, Ken has links to numerous sites posted, one of them being the old community thread... there should probably be a link for the new community thread, with a short deal about how the first link/thread is closed while the second link/thread is the new community thread...

... or whatever you see fit.

All over Kirk Hammett, and dave mustain again
http://www.musicianforums.com/forums/showthread.php?p=7567742#post7567742

eg: Wow, did I tell you to shut the **** up like a total jackass? Don't get so offended. If your going to act like that whenever someone doesn't agree with what you say, be prepared to live a lonely life.

I was just saying album sales differ for different reasons than quality of music. Different labels can promote differently, some may advertise more than others, etc...

Oh, you want a structured argument? Ok.

You might wanna check how many writing credits Kirk Hammett gets on what are considered Metallicas best albums. It's not really a lot. I don't see anything special about Kirk Hammett at all. He can't write a riff to save his life, his solos from the Black Album onwards are uninspired and boring and even then most of his solos couldn't challenge people that are average on Guitar. Plus the fact he's one of the most horribly overrated Guitarists ever.

When Kirk comes up with as many quality riffs over the years as Dave has and invents his own style instead of copying peoples then maybe we can start comparing them.

'Tallica Fanboy.

The list goes on!

Hey, Weekend Warrior, let me help you out:

1. Your thread was bumped two weeks later by a single-post user pointlessly, so of course spam is going to commence. Oh well.

2. What Happy Marshmallow posted in the Eighteen Visions thread isn't exactly a bannable offense these days. Besides, he's more or less a good user.

3. It's quite possible that the band speaks Spanish (which is the primary language of Mexico, Mexicans speak Spanish, not Mexican) and he's just quoting lyrics. If you're so flabbergasted as to figure out what he says, use Babelfish (http://babelfish.altavista.com/) to find out.

4. Discussion of Nile's new album is perfectly fine for a topic, because Nile is metal.

5. Some users were banned during the reorganization of reputation. When their bans were lifted (after reputation was re-established), they still had their stars. They can't exactly rep because it would be worth zero (unless they have points). It was just a glitch, and mx is bound to work on it (either that, or it's really not that big of a issue to 99% of the users here).

6. Some people don't get jokes and have to retort to saying "wow your gay" with horrid grammar and things of that nature. If mods banned people for calling people "gay" or anything of that nature, users like Zakath would be banned a million times over, and some really good users would be gone.

EDIT: 7. If you get a bruised ego on the Internet, then leave. Not everyone here reports people who tell them to STFU lately except you. Relax, kid.

Because of spaming problems, and idots problems, new members have to wait a 24 hours before they can make a thread. So for now, just reply to topics, and post your thread tommorow. Make sure to read the rules as well.

Ps. Welcome to the forums. :)

What's the question you'd like to ask?

Im wonderin what ppl think are the definitive rock/metal tracks of the 80s so i can burn them onto a killer mix.

When you click on New Thread, there is an option to post a poll near the bottom of the screen.
But first tell me, what poll are you planning on making?

CemetaryGates9 seems like he was advocating or at the very least finding the idea of raping girls attractive in the R+M Community Thread. The surrounding drama about the appropriateness of these fantasies to his age (12) notwithstanding, as long as females are present on the forums I think it would be best for CemetaryGates to exhibit a bit more tact with how he reveals his opinions, whether he actually has them or not. I recommend a short ban of maybe one to three days.

I may get shot down on this, but it's annoying at the least and potentially volatile and feeling-hurting at worst.

Ken, they abound, but I'll hit some up for you.

This is what started it:

His story about raping girls for pleasure (http://www.musicianforums.com/forums/showpost.php?p=7419190&postcount=58879)

Discusses how he wants to get with a girl before he kills her (http://www.musicianforums.com/forums/showthread.php?p=7551429#post7551429)

When asked why, his response:

Because it'd make me feel good inside.

When a user said that he's just asking for attention, his response:

It's not for attention. I just think it will make me feel good.

Told to seek counseling for discussing murder (http://www.musicianforums.com/forums/showthread.php?p=7591153#post7591153)

Again about how he has to see a counselor for talking about a mass murder (http://www.musicianforums.com/forums/showthread.php?p=7603560#post7603560)

Good day Ken, 'Tender, Chris, Jelle, Alex and.... Johnny ;)

Just some maintanence to be done, if any of you happen to be online...

Firstly, Johnny would like the article (http://www.musicianforums.com/forums/showpost.php?p=5023315&postcount=2) in the FA archive referring to Medopalis to Med57. I know this because he asked a while ago, and he told me the reasons on MSN.

Also, could the results of Ramsey's competitions (http://www.musicianforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=325872) be added to a new post, or an existing one? The first winner was Berner.

Again, the Featured Genre's could do with a archive also.

They are:
FG#1: Technical Death Metal (http://www.musicianforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=309692)
FG#2: Country Rock (http://www.musicianforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=317586)
FG #3: Pop Punk (http://www.musicianforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=328683)

Perhaps a bit egotistical of me, but could my Monday Night Mayhem's be archived also? I have three already, and enough interviews for another 7 or so. They are, so far:

Monday - 4th April (http://www.musicianforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=324795)
Monday - 11th April (http://www.musicianforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=327371)
Monday - 18th April (http://www.musicianforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=330594)

Also, Jim's YSI Upload thread (http://www.musicianforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=327042) could also be added to the important threads link...

Thanks for that, you guys are really keeping R&M great.

One more thought... I know I may make a few enemies by saying this, but I feel I have to... R&M cannot handle a community thread, I fear. It has made 4000 posts in approx 10 days. The majority of the posts are simple one liners which could easily be typed in mxrockandmetal (the forum's AIM chatroom). Bartender can attest to this, since he reads every post made in there. Every now and then, a post of a paragraph or more is made, but it really is a lot of borderline spam.

Also, I've noticed maybe 5 posters are the ones giving the postcount such a big bump up every day. Three of this posters post almost only in the Community thread. I am not naming anyone, but I think in a forum designated for Rock and Metal discussion, posting only in the community thread is a bit silly.

I've noticed most of the regulars have either distanced themselves, or simply not posted in the thread all together. Also, from the opinions I've gathered, I think a lot of people would agree with me here...

I don't pretend to be an angel, and I am guilty of making a few half-hearted posts, but seriously... this issues needs to be dealt with. Maybe close it like the old one, and link both to the important threads list for future reference, or perhaps another path worked out by you guys could be enacted.

Just my £0.01. :)

You may be right. The conversation in general has been boring me a lot recently. I only have 109 posts in that entire 4,000-something thread...it's just not worth keeping up the community when there's nothing to say. I like it, but I've also had enough of the same subjects being broached and the same arguments being had...and most of all a peculiar resistance to any actual discussions. Talk about the new pope leads to "save it for the Politics forum" remarks, for instance, almost instantly.

I love the community thread and the regulars in it, but never seeing those unnamed users post ANYWHERE else, ever, is kind of silly, and most of all, it's boring when all talking is just one long "Sup thread. How was everyone's day?" And the attempts to control the spamming are so obviously half-hearted it's painful. I once got laughed at for being a "tr00 thread nurse" when trying to remind some users of Bartender's message/subtle threat, and this was followed by further "This is the community thread, we can talk about whatever we want" posts. I am no angel either, having accumulated a large portion of my postcount in the last community thread, but I'm nevertheless feeling like if the community thread was gone tommorrow, the users that depend on it for sustenance would rapidly fade, and that I personally would not be all that depressed to see it go.

And Jason, the phrase is "that's my two CENTS" ;), and with that, you have mine. I'm basically in agreement with Riva on this.

04-21-2005, 02:15 AM
I'm in agreement to an extent, but stopped by one thing. Sure, the thread a lot (most) of the time is a load of trash. However, we get rid of the Community thread and all the other, namely the Official, threads become chat rooms. I've seen this a lot already, even with the Community thread, and it's quite annoying. I don't like going into the Megadeth, Floyd, or whatever Official thread and seeing people talking about how their sister stole their shoes this morning. That's not why I go in there and that's not what I want to read. I only see this getting worse with removal of the Community Thread. Cheers.

The first post will have band/tour names with links to dates and other important information, but the dates won't be in there because that's messy. People can post more tours and links, which will be added to tha first post and once they're added they will be deleted to keep the thread clean.
