Thanks bro.
Or should I say "CHRSU LOL"
Anyways, if you want, every week or month or so----JUST like R and M we have a featured something. But instead of it being a features artist or genre, its a featured guitar.
Basically, a forum regular chooses a guitar for the week, say, a Petrucci MM (for example), and he posts a picture of it, with all its specs, also outlining what typical styles can be associated with this guitar, and ANYTHING that can be related to it (forum members that have it, soundclips, anything) and every week it would just be a fun thing to liven up the forum, and be stickied every week/month
I think it would be a good idea.

I think it's a good idea. You can make a thread about it in the Guitar forum and see if the users would support it, if you'd like.

Thats one problem...i'm hardly a regular, and a ton of them already hate me...
If you have someone on your aim that would be willing to do it, or you or whatever, that would be great. Because my threads never take off in there man...

Can one of the mods make an official Eric Clapton thread or somthing. He has given so much to rock, but has no tribute to him on the site. There have been threads, but they die. I mean they could just talk about him in the Classic Rock thread, but thats also true for Pink Floyd. I just feel he has been in enough bands, and done enough to have an official thread.

Official Threads get created when the forum is over run by threads on one particular topic/artist. They don't get awarded to influential artists.
The fact that the threads die indicates that an Official Thread isn't required.
In saying that, no more official threads are to be made.
Thanks for asking about it first and not just creating one :)

Bumping is the act of posting in a dead thread bringing it back to the first page, in case you didnt know.

whats wrong with doing that?
munky_magik
03-28-2005, 03:57 PM
whats wrong with doing that?
It's frowned upon because usually once a thread has died, it has died for a reason. There isn't any point in bringing back a thread if no one was posting in it.
Phil Anselmo
03-28-2005, 03:57 PM
ok i get it. why not close it then?

Because it didn't violate any rules and it's far too time consuming for a Mod to go back and close every thread that has died.

thats what i thought. no more bumping then.
Bumping a somewhat recent thread (two weeks or younger) is not frowned upon as long as you post something relevant and important.
Posting something a person above you posted (as in the Swedish metal thread) is frowned upon though. :)

Just so you know, this isn't the right thread for that kind of info. :)
This is to report problems or ask questions of the mods in regards to the running of this forum. If you would like to find tabs, I'm sure you can find one for a band as popular as AC/DC here (www.mxtabs.net).

I think next year April Fool's threads should be against the rules. They're really stupid, and never work anyways.
But the people who post them insist that they are true and are trying to delude others so creating a rule saying "NO April Fools Threads" won't really work because people will just continue to post threads and claim that they are true, which is what they are doing currently.

A n00b-created ***Official*** thread... breaks one of them rules things.
No, official threads are totally useless. They're glorified community threads. I've been in them to ask for help and never even got a reponse, let alone a useful one.
On this note, I actually want help, and I still think this forum is the best place to get it, but the regulars of the Official Thread in question (Iron Maiden) totally ignored me. Would it be okay to make a new thread, or should I take it to The Pit?

You can start a thread on Korn, but not an official one.
It doesn't matter how many people would use it, no more official threads are going to be made.

You could get your accouts Merged, but you would have to ask Double Bass Jim to do that in the site forum.
Also, you'll no longer have the rep points because every account (Bar those of Mods etc...) got reset to zero.

This should probably be closed in a while (http://www.musicianforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=324904)
I've got a few requests/ideas here, so I'll just put them in one post.
1. In the rules thread, we need a section for Featured Genres (probably a new post). I'll link the two we've had so far here.
Featured Genre #1: Technical Death Metal (http://www.musicianforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=309692)
Featured Genre #2: Country Rock (http://www.musicianforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=317586)
In addition here (http://www.musicianforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=306090) is the link to the original thread, which explains the concept, and how to take dibs on one. You might want to link that in the new post.
2. After Schyma's guitar competition ends, I was thinking of starting something new in here, if the three of you give your approval. Since I think we're tired of polls on the whole at the moment, and since I can't see a best guitarist/best drummer poll working, what I had in mind was doing something similar to what Mekkalaykay tried in July/August last year, i.e a defend a band competition. At the moment I'm still thinking of ways that could be run, but if you guys give a tentative go ahead, I can think of some ways, and then we can sort it out later pretty much. Basically I think this could be a really cool idea, and start off some quality discussion between people arguing over the merit/influence of a band, so long as we get the right people signing up to do it.
3. Could you change the credit of the Pink Floyd FA in the rules archive to Med57 please?
4. The modern rock band competition isn't being run, so you might want to take out the reference to it in post #4 of the rules. Likewise, Iron Maiden-Hallowed Be Thy Name was the runner up in the favourite song competition, and Tool-Lateralus was the runner up in the favourite album competition. Something I thought might be quite cool (although this plausibly could just be me) is if you add links to the central thread for all the polls, since I know I'm still using those threads as guides on what to buy/check out. Here are the links.
Central thread for the top 100 songs (http://www.musicianforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=266346)
Central thread for the top 100 albums (http://www.musicianforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=301097)
Central Thread for the Ultimate Classic Rock Band (http://www.musicianforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=251687)
Central Thread For The Ultimate Metal Band (http://www.musicianforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=237256)
5. You might also want to add a post in the rules thread archiving winners of the R&M poster of the month awards. So far they've been:
Febuary: Poster Of The Month-Bartender
Newbie Of The Month-ArrestThisMan
I think that's everything for the moment :p
-Jonny
Quoted for the new page.
Also, are the larger avatars for the winner of RMotM going to happen?
And, why did the modern rock competition fizzle out?
Iai was going to do it, but he doesn't really like this forum, so I got the feeling it died. I'm more than happy to run it if people want it to happen, but I just got the feeling that people were tired of polls...if anyone feels otherwise let me know, as I quite like the idea personally.
Oh, I would like to see it happen as well, just so that we can have a full set. Hopefully, it'll also help to counter the "Modern Rock Sucks" threads.
I'll do it if people want me to. Someone else might have to take over once The Afghan Whigs get knocked out, but meh. :)
Nah, I was being stupid. I have no real problem with this forum. If people still want it to happen, I'll do it.

I'd also definitely like to see it happen. :) What are the parameters going to be (like a debut album released after 1985 or something?)
Yeah, we agreed a while back on something like that. The year we ended up with was 1988, I think. The bands discussed were Soundgarden, The Pixies, Gun N Roses, and someone else. That excludes GNR ('87) but allows Soundgarden and The Pixies (both '88). Which makes sense to me, but I can see disagreements.
I was thinking, though, whether to allow solo artists.
Maybe I should make a thread, sorting this out and getting opinions. Later, though.

I think there should be a new strict rule about Official threads that should be enforced. Mods should be only making official threads, nots users. And weren't the purpose of official threads to clean up many threads about a band? The only thread I've seen about GNR is the one we've had a while back about Chinese Democracy. And I think I've seen a few more. But the GNR thread is ridiculous, I haven't seen a GNR thread in months.

Only Mods are permitted to make official threads, it's already a rule in the rules thread.
And yes, that was their purpose to begin with, though most people seemed to have missed it.
The GNR thread will be closed as soon as a Mod notices it.

I knew it was a rule, I said "Mods SHOULD be making Official Threads". Should is kind of the key word there ;) .

Well, no more official threads are to be made.
The general feeling was that they segregate the discussion too much.
The Mods would prefer to close many threads on the same band than to have more official threads.

Yea, what I think most of the younger members mentality is that "Oh, there's no official thread on my favorite band. And since it's my favorite band, everyone must love them"
/new thread.
I guess they think that official threads are meant for general discussion about the band, which they are, but only when the forum has an abundance of the threads.
Like the Beatles thread. Smart Ol' DeusExMachina didn't put "THE OFFICIAL BEATLES THREAD", he just called it "The Beatles". And it's successful.

there's a guy named Snow Day in the Metallica thread that's pissing everyone off. he's not leaving even though he's been asked to leave and he even said himself he'd leave. MXican and I have tried to end the constant bickering, but it hasn't worked.
Mods, anything to do with Snow Day??

I think you misunderstood.
If you have a request to ban someone then try and provide evidence of why they should be banned. It saves the Mods (especially ones on 56k) a lot of time and effort because they don't have to search for the offences :)

Try finding some other forums by doing a google search, then check any rules they have to see if they allow advertising.
I could say Tabcrawler, but I'm more mature than that
You will have to see this one for yourself (http://www.musicianforums.com/forums/showthread.php?p=7455896#post7455896).
