This is what I made of it: The official threads aren't gonna be closed, just de-officialised. So the communities created in them will still go on, and you'll still be able to talk in them, but other threads will still be allowed on the bands that have official threads.
Someone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong :)

The official threads will continue, but under a different name. It's jsut that not all topics on the band will have to go in the thread. General discussion about the band will still go on in the threads.

If the thread you made was asking for people to create their dream/fantasy bands line-up, you broke the rules and were consequently banned. People who make threads saying they know they shouldn't make the thread also get a ban. And threads that are just overdone, like the Fav album thread earlier tonight, just get closed. Or thats my understanding of it.

threads that have been done repetetively are closed, and the threadstarter is urged to use the search function. Fantasy threads(bands,lineups etc...) are just pointless and have all been done to death. If you really, really want to know what other peple think, then use the search function.
The general formula used for banning people is: "if rules are broken, then ban, else leave be".

ok, i'm gonna give you the low-down, I was surfing the net, and came across this site. Now I foiund a thread that was awsome ***Metallica VS Guns an ROSES*** now, this is awsome, because my girlfriend who is a HUGE music fan and english student, was asked to wright an essay on which band is better. Now dont take this the wrong way, its not a school asignment, its just something that is supposed to be challenging. so a bunch of friends of mine, myself and my girlfriend included, have all been debating this topic, and it has become a bit of an obcession of mine, and my girlfriends...because we both like both bands, and we have done some research, and polling, but still both bands seem to fare the same. .... so here I am, newly signed up, wanting to become part of this discussion.... can you help?..... it would be great to get this thread going again, and i'm very interested in not just who people think is the better band but WHY!

That thread would've been all spam, people repeatedly posting the same bands and nothing would have came of the thread. I mean, most people would've looked up Google for the harder letters anyway. Nothing productive could have came from it so what would have been the point in keeping it open?

Game threads don't contribute anything to the forum. If you don't appreciate the Moding style around here, then I don't think theres alot you can do.

How can regulate what you can and can't talk about when it comes to music? This is the worst forum I've EVER been on. If Axl Rose read this, he'd be impressed. Because people do it in a mindless fashion for the most part, and also compare or pit bands together that are not even comparable. And also it's all opinion, and fanboy's of the bands will come in and start a flame fest out of the thread. To many subjective opinions + fanboys + vs thread = flame fest and spam.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the mods will alow you to make a verses thread if you put some thought into it, and the bands/artists are actually comparable. I agree that great disscusion can be made from these threads, but they are always ruined by idiots. Page after page of vs threads gets annoying, especially after months of them. There are reasons for the rules here, and the basic idea is that rather than starting the 8,000th awful, overdone vs thread, you become a member of the community, and learn people's opinions of various subjects and bands through discussion in other threads. If you want a quickfire, "I WANT MY VS DONE AND YOU'RE ALL FAGS IF YOU DON'T LET ME" thread, to get context-less, shallow responses, go to a different music forum and leave this one alone.

Well the AIM thread is for whole albums, and is only good for one person at a time. With a Gmail thread you can share a song or two with everyone in R&M(everyone that gives their gmail address) at one time. It could also be good for getting people into new bands.
