Spammer which came in just to flame and nothing else. Posted about 3 times just saying how the bands i listen to are so ****ty. Is this not against the rules?

1. No creating posts or threads specifically for flaming another person or for flaming/slamming bands. If you're going to say some band or some artist sucks, explain why. If you can intelligently explain why you hate a certain band, we will generally leave your post alone. This rule applies to replies about bands in threads. If you post "Van Halen sucks" in a Van Halen thread, your going to be temp. banned.

That do ya?

Well all Griffin did when he posted was flame and say the bands suck *** and then leave without any explanation, That's very childish and immature especially from someone who's been here awhile. And again I ask, What's the point of having rules if people dont obey them? Griffin broke it 3 times.

Could a mod make the RATM thread Offical.

Usually Official Threads are only created when there is a clear need for one, due mostly to excessive threads about a band. If you are worried about people making more RATM threads, just link them to the established one. Most people will be nice enough to start posting back in the original, and a mod may even merge the two.

I think people generally think it was better because there were actually threads that had never been done before, and there was a much less hostile environment. The forums were not a competition like they are now.

I got a suggestion, how about we get rid of ***OFFICIAL*** threads? Whenever some retard comes to register they see it and say to themselves 'lol my band d3s3rv3s 1 2!" Too many people misunderstand the point of them, and a lot of them we dont need(Pink Floyd, Iron Maiden, etc.)

Now in some cases like the Metallica thread, we can change the title to "Only post about Metallica in this thread"

Well, some are, but some of the users who are against the mods are actually quite intelligent.

It's mainly because the users think that some of the mods are a bit too arrogant and/or too strict for the forum's good. I do see what they're saying, but we have to enforce the rules. If we let the forums go without rules, the whole site would be like the days of Rock & Metal without an active mod.

it doesnt mater how many posts you have... i have been reading stuff in these forums for three years

SOAD is far from my favorite band. I only like 4 or 5 of their songs. The rest are annoying.

However, they are popular on the forums and suggest creating an official thread. It will spawn more talk about them.

Did I say postcount matters? No. But people that dont read the rules do see all these official threads and think their favorite band deserves one(Im not saying they are your favorite band, I am talking about new people in general).

Sure their might be a lot of threads soon due to the release of their new albums, but it wont last for long and mods can close them.

Look, one of the mods, Jelle, speaks at least 5 languages, with Flemish being his first language. He speaks English for the sake of the rest of us who do not speak his language. It's obvious you can speak English, so if you want the 90% of the forums who do not speak a language similar to Spanish to understand your opinions etc, then post in English.

And, don't threaten people because they can't understand what you are saying. That is the calling card of a pretentious idiot.

Time for some major work to be done. I've been reading a lot of complaints about some of the threads, and the thread in the Site forum will hopefully be the last. :)

munky_magik
01-18-2005, 12:06 PM
I don't think we really need anymore. When new albums are released this year there'll be a lot of threads which you can close, but other than that the bands don't get enough threads about them to merit an official thread IMO.

3074326
01-18-2005, 12:14 PM
I honestly wouldn't be opposed to getting rid of all Official threads for a week or so, just to see how things go.

I don't post in the Official Tool thread at all, but do enjoy reading Tool threads. Haven't read one of those for months.

I think we should just let the forum be a forum and let threads be made. If Metallica threads get out of hand, we'll let the Metallica thread be Official.

If a thread isn't doing its job, I don't think it should be a thread to which one is directed.

These are just my opinions, it doesn't mean that anything I just said will happen.

Im against any thread being labelled official, so clear them all out/rename the lot. Some threads though should remain open and bumpable, as they have some great discussion in them and a sense of community. Some will need to either be stickied during new album releases, or at least temporarily made official, but I do agree they need to go, and renamed without the 'Official' tag.

(just dont close the tool one, or on your life be it!)

The official threads are like little communities of their own, so closing/abandoning them would probably upset a fair few people. It does divide the forum up however so I guess whaever action is taken will have its pro's and con's.

We wouldn't be getting rid of the threads, just not closing threads related to the bands.

Riva
01-19-2005, 12:58 AM
So, people who make a Jet thread when one already exists get theirs closed, but people who make a Pink Floyd thread, (once the official one becomes de-officialised) don't get theirs closed simply because the Floyd one used to be official?

That is the summation of everyone's logic so far. I don't mean to be rude, but any new threads made about "official thread" bands will still be flamed for not searching, and will still be nominated for closing. Changing the title does nothing. I don't mind them being unofficial or official, but it will have a miniscule impact on the forum (a few less noobs will ask if HiM can get an official thread, etc).

Bartender
01-19-2005, 12:59 AM
The Metallica thread really was actually needed (you know, back in the day), but after a few months it basically became a spam thread. Many of the official threads there are now, I don't even know where they came from. Like Black Sabbath, and Megadeth, and others; maybe I fell asleep for a few weeks or something, but when did we have problems with an influx of threads about them?

Riva
01-19-2005, 01:02 AM
A lot of the threads: Megadeth, Black Sabbath and Opeth were made official simply because they weren't going anywhere.

help please

munky_magik
01-19-2005, 10:06 AM
to check your rep points go to your User Cp via the link at the top left of the screen and scroll to the bottom of the page.
rep points are reputation points. You get given positive rep for useful posts and negitive rep for idiotic posts. you give rep by clicking the little tick/cross box under someone's avatar.

Bartender
01-19-2005, 10:08 AM
Ostensibly, they're supposed to single out good users. You can give out rep points (reputation points), positive or negative, to anyone by clicking the little box with the tick and X in it under their avatar.

You have the option of giving positive or negative rep, and of leaving a message which they can read. The amount you give out depends on how many you have yourself.

To check how many you have, go to your user CP (link on the forum toolbar in the top left of the page). Scroll to the bottom, past subscribed threads, and your total rep points and last five comments (if they left comments) should be there, if there are any.

I think that's all :)

EDIT: I knew someone would beat me to it. Hurrah for the extra post, anyway.

Its ridiculous how you can be given negative reps by anybody at all and for absolutely no decent reason at all. So this means that people can be asses on here and hand out negative reps for the sake of it, AND do it anonymously. Or do it just because they dont agree with what you have to say, even if it is a valid point you're making. Would you call the rep system fair? I think most of the mods will agree that no more official threads will be considered for a long time to come, excepting an unforseen circumstance.

Right now there are no less that THREE (!) Christian Music threads on the first page. We should make an official to get the idiot fundamentalists out of our way.

There's four, actually. Five if you count Ve Das' specifically non-religion thread.

Dargon man.... I'm christian... I'm not fundamentalist, non-christians seem to think automatically, if you are christian you try to make everybody else christian, but that's just not true, I agree and official Christian Rock/Metal thread should be made, but not to "keep fundamentalists out", but to make the annoyingness of the same thread 5-6 times in 1 month go away.

Im done on official threads as well. The thing is, when we put them all in, the forum was flooded daily with repeat threads about the same bands. Its a double edged sword and were all riding the edge, now its a balancing act.

im 14, been pLAYIN BASS FOR A YEAR, WANNA GET A GUITAR SOON WHEN I GET MONEY.......
gOT A FEW QUESTIONS

-ANYONE KNOW OF ANY GOOD FINGER/HAND/FOREARM, ETC. STRENGTHENING TEQNIQUES OR TABS, I Have a few tabs for my pinky, but i find my right hand cramps up after playin for a while and am forced to use a pick to keep goin, so i wonder if theres any way to make this better

-this is probly a dumb question, but does anyone got any tips on memorizing songs? i find i play so many new songs and stuff and am forgetting some

- does anyone know of any strings that give that Duff McKagen GnR sound, i cant describe it but it sounds similar to green day, and how often should i replace strings?

-my strings got some rust on em, y is this, any way to prevent this?

-ive read somethin about this but it was pretty unclear, but does anyone know anything about scale inversions or how to invert a scale or somethin?

-Anyone know of any bass solos similar to maxwell murder, id never heard of anything like that song, but thought it was pretty cool, cant play it up to speed, but try anyways...

-can i plug my bass into a 15 watt guitar amp? i figure it would blow the speaker but am not 100% sure,,

-can you get splitters for a single input amP?

i dont expect anyone to answer all these questions, or even any of them, but its worth a shot, I know its a lot of questions ppl probly already talked about, but id find it really helpful

This thread is not the place for this. Go to the bass forum, and you will get better responses.

They mean that the topic that you made a thread on has been done thousands of times. If you use the Search function you can search the forums for these threads if you want to find out other people's opinions on the subject.

The other Satriani thread died because the thread starter made a horrible thread. Your thread was well thought out and worded well so it should do well. It stays. Welcome to the forum btw!

thanks i've been around here for a while then signed up this month. I'd like to try post as much as possible in here to try eradicate n00bs from the r&m thread because, with what i've seen already, it must get tedious for you guys so i reckon i'll join the service of cleaning up mx.

edit: the recent influx of pointless threads has also helped me sway my decision to help. There's five closed threads at the moment!?

Well, just think really hard before you make a thread. When people make threads just to make one or cus they are bored they always turn out horrible. I also can't stand it when people make threads because they think it will make them popular on the forum or some crap. I have always said, people don't become popular users by creating threads, they become popular members by contributing intelligent conversation in EXISTING threads.

Have fun!

What about an Official Eric Clapton Thread? He's been in very influential bands, he's played 3+ styles of music, and he's been around since the 60's and is still rocking. Cream is playing in the Albert Hall next summer, btw

There won't be anymore official threads.
And official threads only get created when there are a large ammount of threads about one band on the forum at the same time. They're effectively just space savers. It doesn't matter how influtential/phsychadelic/morman the artist is, they don't get official threads dedicated to them for that reason.
