I can't be arsed looking through this whole thread....but....I notice nobody posts images on this board, is it against policy? And if so....... :upset:
And another thing...what do ppl get reps for? And why hasn't anyone given them to me
munky_magik
01-06-2005, 08:31 AM
I dunno bout pics.
Reps are reputation points. You give someone positive rep when they post something useful and halpful. You give them negi rep when they post something idiotic.
You don't neg rep people because you don't agree with their opinion.
an example would be you'd positive rep me cause I explained this to you.

Okay ta......who divvys em out? The mods? Or just any user in general. Not that I will ever get any based on that criteria. My posts are neither useful, nor helpful....just opinions laced with sarcasm and doused in irn bru :D
munky_magik
01-06-2005, 08:43 AM
You rep someone using the little tick/cross box under their avatar. You can only give out so much rep in 24hrs and you can't rep the same person twice in a short period of time.
and Irn-bru = teh secks

/votes for Dredg
Dredg is an awesome band, although some people dislike the vocals. If you liked the songs I sent you, you can't go wrong with either of their albums. El Cielo has a good bit more music on it though, so I'd recommend it.
I'm glad you liked them. You'll like them more and more as you listen to them. :)
What genre are they Chris? And, bugger me, but ExitSandman is really close-minded. I know you cannot ban for being ignorant, but to take the effort to post in the wildcard poll just to say, "I'm not voting because there is no decent band up there", is really infuriating.

I'm sure this has been suggested before, and maybe you don't want any more stickies...
But wouldn't it be a decent idea to sticky a "What's that Song?" thread, where people can just like describe a song they heard (and want the name), and we tell them what it is? I honestly see like four threads per day asking about a song someone heard. And it doesn't look like these threads will ever stop coming, so this thread may save space.

I was banned, and i'm not sure if it's permanent, for making a thread about recommending me music in the R & M forum. I never really noticed there was an official one then i was banned so i've been trying since to get in contact with a mod and explain so i got a new account, came on here and now i'm saying to you my story. My old account had the username big and you can contact me at sponge_bean@hotmail.com. It shouldn't be a perma ban.
And if you make threads in the wrong places then I report them, what happens as a consequence is the Mod's wisdom. Try finding out how long you have left on your ban in the site forum, and just wait for your ban to pass.
Also, though I'm not sure on this, isn't there a rule saying if you get banned in R&M, then you aren't allowed to post in here under another account?

you have 2 days and 1 hour left. I would suggest you spend a few minutes and read the rules to R&M and look over the official link list to save you any problems in the future.
Your ban can't be lifted tho, unless it is a moderator error or if there was a flaw in the ban process we don't really lift bans. R&M is the strictest part of this forum. We are strict because we have so many users. This time last year this place was total chaos, the hard nosed approach has cleaned the place up and makes it a great place to hang out. A few people can't adapt to the way R&M is ran and either continually is banned or gets frustrated and leaves. There are HUNDREDS up hundreds of users who post here every day, enjoy themselves, and never have a problem with the rules. This lets us know that the rules are good and are working.

You have to wait 24 hours to make a new thread. Im curious, what thread do you want to start?
And yes there is a rule about making another user and posting in R&M. This is geared more towards people disregarding the ban, logging on a new user and resuming regular activities on the forum, thus abandoning thier punishment. These people will have the bans on thier primary user extended. I don't mind if someone uses another account to check on why they were banned, although it should be in the banned user inquiries. BUT! I don't go to the banned user inquiries anymore and I don't really mind the R&M users asking here. For the most part R&M users who get banned are new users, or users who are veteran users here who log on drunk or just get emotional and post alot of bad posts. I don't consider them problem users, just people who need direction or someone who made a bad choice so I don't mind discussing thier bans with them in this thread.

It was one of 2 things. You posted in multiple spam threads or you created a bad thread. Usually a bad thread ban is 3 days. I don't remember why you were banned, I could research it but I really don't wanna do that either unless you REALLY want me to. Then at that it would probably be tomm. before I could.

Post a message in the "Music Reccomendation" thread. You are wanting reccomendations on what music to put in videos. You mean like the pending system that there is with the tabs?
It's a good idea but it would really take to much manpower and time to be run efficiently otherwise huge backlogs would be created and the forum woudl slow to a halt whilst all the threads are being approved.
EDIT: 3 times in one day just really isn't funny :(

It's actually an option with vbulletin, but Jeremy would need to enable it. Although it would work, I'm against it. First of all, as the mods can't be on all the time. Lets say 2 out of the 4 in here don't get on for a day, then one gets on, and approves 20 new threads. Front page fills with new threads, old ones die, and the quality of discussion worsens, as every few hours a new wave of threads hits the front page, rather than them being spread out.
It would cut down on spam though, I guess the threads would have to be gradually approved, not all of them at once.

It was just an idea. I was just getting sick of seeing the same threads all the time.

We all are.
Humor99 suggested an idea to Jeremy that would prevent threads with the same title being made, and Jeremy basically said that it would be such an extensive project that it would be impractical. The project would also have to be redone with each new version of vBulletin.
Your idea, while a good idea, will more than likely not be used. The idea is good. A moderation queue (which should be enabled in the Lessons & Articles forum) would prevent any illegal threads from being made, but if there was a period of time where no mod was online, the site would just be terribly boring.
I personally think that the moderation in the Rock & Metal forum is at an all-time best. We have four, dedicated mods paying a great deal of attention to this part of the forum. We're also a close community. The R&M regulars are some of my favorites. :)
Keep the suggestions coming. They're appreciated.
How about randomly terrorising the noobs by banning them all for a day, so that they scramble to find out why they were banned, and hence read the rules. :p

Hahaha
/starts banning
The banning would never cease.
And he stood upon the hill. I saw that bloody ban stick held firmly at his side. His burning eyes bored into mine as the dark clouds above his head thundered and stormed. The smell of ban lay all around me, hovering above the fields of endless noobs. I knew I was in the prescence of the one they call "307... random numbers.. uh.. Jenny?" :p

Haha, That's when the ban button in the Thread Tools or where ever would help.

Got those threads. And the links are all fine, it's just that whatever tags have been disabled.

I'm sure you have some perfectly logical explanation, but I want to enquire as to why games are not allowed. Not just any games, but music related. I have seen this on other forums, for example....Lyric Thread..in this you would post some known lyrics and whatever letter it ends on, say the last word is "destructioN", the next set of lyrics should begin with N. I had a rock riddle game thread in song and lyric briefly (before everyones riddles got too obscure, although I may revive it.) Anyway, I'm just curious.

Well I know the links are fine, just really messy...
And also game threads are pointless even if they are music related. They are just there for noobs to come in and post pointless things or people use it as a circle jerk thread to boast there post count. They are mindless and are not needed.

Well, yeah, it's messy, but it's just that the tags are disabled that's the problem.

I think the rule's essentially there because there was a time when there'd be two or three threads going at once with names like "The Guitarist Game!", "The Metal Game!", etc. And all these "games" consisted of was saying which of the two metal bands/singers/guitarists/bassists/etc the posted above you had posted, and then posting your own two for the guy below you. So you'd get pages and pages and pages and pages of;
Go!
Jimmy Page vs John Petrucci
Petrucci
Iommi vs Kerry King
Iommi
James Hetfield vs Dave Mustaine
Hetfield
Petrucci vs CC DeVille
Dude, we just had Petrucci!!! Choose different people.
ANyway, Petrucci.
Petrucci vs Jason Becker
Becker *lots of reasoning*
Jerry Garcia vs Phil Lesh [/Badmoon]
Who teh ****, I ain't heard of them. I'll just say Petrucci.
Petrucci vs Mustaine
For ****s sake choose different guys.
**** **** shut up *******. PETRCCUII!
..
And so on. For two thousand posts. With only a handful of people (like Badmoon) actually coming up with anything original, or justifying their choices at all. Basically spam threads.
If you come up with something original, which requires actual brainpower to some degree, which would actually be fun and reasonably challenging, and not of a postcount ++ nature, I think it could be allowed. I'd go for it, anyway, don't know about the others.
The only original game thread I can remember was started by JMetallica, and sank faster than a stone because none of the noobs could handle it. In my experience, game threads which require thought scare away people who only want to postcount ++ themselves.

Right then, have a look if you would in my posts or threads, if you are so inclined and take a peek at the thread entitled "rock riddles"...I thought it was perhaps more suited for song and lyric, since it required actual clue and riddle composition...but I wonder if it might be better suited for rock forum. Can it be moved? Do I really care that much? Meh.
*I would've revived it long ago, if I could suss the last riddle  *
