and armed with intelligence isn't crust. more powerpop with meaningful lyrics. more focused on what really is at hand other than saying the government is full of spatulas.
AWI writes about sweatshop labor, walmart, dirty corporate america, and things that actually matter. and not calling dubya and *******.
but seriously, is it necessary to have this many genre's of punk? punk is punk. and its not dead.
Totalitar's up there, Municipal Waste is thrash (only), and I can't say that I've heard the other bands. I'm sure I've heard, at least heard of, Catheter but I can't say I remember the music.
Links would be nice.
Oh, and the mass amount of genres have been explained...alot...it simply to classify music to different tastes. I know alot of people who like street punk, but hate crust, or likewise. Thus all the genres are just to simplify the recommendation of bands. Although I'm seriously considering askign to have this moved into the hardcore forum, as crust really is hardcore, just alot dirtier.

Discharge were the first d-beat band, as that entire style is based off of ripping Discharge off. haha.
The band that's usually associated with the beginnings of crust would be Amebix although Deviated Instinct were one of the first bands to actually be called "crust punk." As for history, it, for the most part, started off in the UK from what I know with bands like Doom, Axe Grinder, Amebix, Deviated Instinct, etc. It was just heavy hardcore with extreme lyrics about political, aswell as socio-economic, issues.
Although I has grown quite rapidly within the US. Notable cities for spewing out crust bands in the US have been the areas of Portland, OR with bands like Hellshock, Tragedy, Cut-Throat, etc. along with Austin, TX with bands like World Burns to Death, Severed Head of State, Mayday, Signal Lost, Century of War. There are alot more cities with good bands, but those are off the top of my head.
Hope that helped.

I don't have Conflict on the list. Although I disagree on the point of Dropdead. They're, for the most part, crust. They have some elements of grind and thrash, but doesn't take away from the fact that they're a crust band. As for Caustic Christ, that was discussed in the thread already. I consider the Capitalist Casualties to be crust, although crust and powerviolence are very close genres, imo. Although if more people agree, say aye, and I'll take em off the list. UK82 is just an elitest name for old UK street punk bands, haha.
As for the whole D-beat thing, honestly, D-beat is way too similar to crust to be off of this list. If needed I'll mark 'em to show that they're a d-beat band.
Signal Lost don't really sound like crust but they were really cool when I saw them.
They're more on the anarcho side of things to be honest, but there's really no anarcho scene in TX, so Ash and the gang hang out with all the crusties, so I tend to throw them in with the rest. Aside from the fact that alot of crusties that have heard Signal Lost like em alot.

what is everyones favorite grind/crust record label? (this is not worthwhile discussion i know.) my favorites would have to be relapse and earache.

Earache is my favorite I guess.
This is a really dumb question, but do you guys prefer grind bands that down tune, or grind bands that use the normal tuning? I myelf prefer grind bands that don't down tune, it forces them to be a little more creative, rather than bands that down tune usually just thrash on open chords trying to sound heavy. But Pig Destroyer and Agoraphobic Nosebleed still rule.

wow. i forgot about this site and haven't been here in ages..
for grind/crust.. i like lots such as black market fetus, ****... i'm dead, everyone i know must die, nasum, and whatnot.
and as for that question about tuning.. i think bands can be creative no matter what tuning they use, but a lot of bands these days, (not so much grind bands as nu metal or lamb of god type bands) use drop d style tunings to make playing easier. but anyways. i prefer standard tuning because thats just sort of the way that guitar was made to be played.. but lower tunings sound heavier. it can go either way.

Daughters aren't grind at all. I like them, but there isn't really anything in their sound that is grind. They are a Locust rip-off band, and WAY over-use the whole "start-stop" thing. They're alright, I like them, but they definitely aren't grind.

That is an awesome band name.
Ha, I thought so too.
We're in Florida though so we put up with a lot of annoying race fans.
At the show last night there was a friend of mine who was dressed as Dale Earnhardt. She came with someone dressed as "the wall".

Spaztik Colon Grind. I'd like to hear some of their stuff. I love idiotic grind.

Gordon is from Vallejo (where I live) and he is always denying it, so he isn't very liked 'round here.

Actually the name is just Spaztik Colon, but if and when I actually find that copy of the tape I'll dub it onto my PC and post up the mp3s. I might just ask them to give me another copy.

Is there any crust I should listen to besides Amebix and Caustic Christ? Or Aus Rotten, but I don't count them as crust.

Shiiiiit, there's no way I could miss a show like that. I'd go spange at the door or some ****. Just like I had no money for Artemis Pyle/Caustic Christ; I just went.

I remember a couple months ago, I went to see this new band in xLancasterx called "Dressed To Kill." On the flyer it said "new Lancaster grindcore band." More like new Lancaster generic metalcore band. I was so dissapointed.

haha, I would, but the show ain't hitting up my city. I'd have to drive 2 hours to get there. Although, hopefully, if I have enough cash, I'll be going to this: http://www.daytonahc.com/thisisforyou

I'm trying my best to save money up, and it's ****ing hard to do so without a job, but no one will hire a dirty spic. haha.

I really want to go see R.A.M.B.O. as I missed them when they hit TX. Main problem with saving up the cash to go, though, is that my family has been having money problems as of a few months ago, so all my money is available to my family if we need to buy groceries or make a payment. That's my main priority right now. I'm helping as much as I can for us not to lose our house. Although, if all goes well and I have enough cash, I'll be in attendance.
