If you like sound clip intros, Buzzov-en are for you. Most of their songs are like 9 minutes long with 5 minutes of movie clips / ambient sound intros.

They kind of suck though. But they have a few songs I like.

Never heard of them. Are they grind?

And I'm going to have to listen to this now, because I've heard nothing but good stuff.

Fritz Plays Bass
02-17-2006, 10:41 AM
Yeah, nobody ever wanted to play bass, it just seemed to be the instrument that suited me, it's VERY important, but not as upfront and flashy and high and mighty as guitar. Drums were out of the question, I've drank my coordination away.

Subvert_bassist
02-17-2006, 11:19 AM
Yeah, it seemed the choice for me, too. It was, at first, easier to learn than bass, but if you're good and throw little flares into the basslines, people notice. There's nothing I have to show you guys that would show off any skill I have, except the little nothing basslines in the breakdown of "Death to Humanity". But, we cover Sacrifice, and we do it the Antischism style in that I do all the crazy bass solos in the chorus. I've tabbed out a bunch of Antischism songs because their bassist is hella good, and learning his songs would, in practice, make me that much better.

Fritz Plays Bass
02-17-2006, 01:03 PM
I'll admit I learned on the Crack Rock Steady bands and Suicide Machines and The Clash and Rancid. Over time I started just trying to play faster and remove some of the ska (I still throw in off-root notes to keep the basslines interesting, which is hard while singing). I don't use a pick though so my playing is just this awkward mess of two finger picking as fast as my fingers go while trying to make the bassline sound nice with my fretting hand. I was never one for soloing though, I just don't like doing it.

Subvert_bassist

I can't finger-pluck fast enough for what I play, so I have to use a pick. Besides, if I finger-pluck it, my fingers get all tied up when I switch strings. After many jam sessions with my drummer, though, I can play ridiculously fast with a pick; I have to be able to, with the speed he plays blast beats at.

A good bassist is hard to come by around here. Me, I personally am a guitarist. Ive been playing for almost 5 years now. I picked up drums as well and i currently play drums in my band because its impossible to find a god damned drummer in this hick town. But..hopefully ill one day find a band that will let me play guitar and yell a lot in.

Tuesday, March 23 @ Emerson Theater
Disfear (featuring Tompa Lindburg from AT THE GATES and Uffe from ENTOMBED), Phobia, Misery Index, The Dream Is Dead, Strong Intention

I want to go to see Phobia and Disfear, but I don't think I will because the venue is insanely small and I don't want to get beat up/stabbed by the metalheads. The Emerson's basically in the middle of the ghetto.

I stand firmly behind the phrase "Slap Bass Sucks." Okay, it doesn't really, but I'm just not a fan really. I also don't really like Sludge, yet I like Dystopia. When it comes to playing bass, I prefer to play really fast, or if I slow it down, do something really melodic along the lines of ska and blues.

As far as where to put it (the slap parts), use them tastefully. Don't overdo them because it will become cliche, but use it in an intro or a solo or breakdown once, or do a song that uses them in a verse or two, and keep it very tasteful. At least, that is what impresses me.

Yeah, they were real good. All the bands that played tonight were real good: Brutal Assault, Zdeth, All Catatonic And Like, Max Ward, Asshole Assassination Squad, and Second Opinion. Only thing: during one of the bands' sets, a guy flew on top of the pit and fell down on me, catching my ear and ripping my guage out. Now, my guage is shaped like and H, with the middle part being in my ear, the actual size of the hole. The two sides are roughly twice the size of the actual hole; I have to unscrew one side to take it in or out. Now, the double-sized part ripped through my ear. It ripped the skin bad, almost ripping all the way through the bottom of my ear. God damn that hurts. However, the show was fantastic. I made friends with the guys from Max Ward and Second Opinion, and because of it, I got a Second Opinion shirt for only 6 bucks, I got a free No Noize 7" and a free ACxDC 7", the vocalist of my band is gonna do some vocals for Max Ward that's gonna show up on their split with the real guy Max Ward, and me and my drummer Chris were made honorary members of the huge, famous crew Demon Crew by the man who made it himself. Demon Crew, foo!

Demon Crew Criteria for Membership

1. You know our history:
If you dont bother to know our "history" then dont bother to claim us. We started as a joke crew in response to the tough guy crews that overrun "hardcore" and other forms of punk as well as in response to the scenester coke heads that somehow took over our scene. It happened after too many frustrated conversations in which we told stories of seeing/ experiencing ****ed up **** happening at shows and no one saying **** about it. It happened as a result of seeing the apathy we were surrounded by and being sickened by it. So we decided to start a "crew" to put all other crews to shame since we would actually work to get ourselves and the scene surrounding us out of the ****hole its been in. Its basis is skating, tagging, undeground extreme music, creativity, friendship, protection.

2. You rep it:
Meaning you are a representative of all members involved so ****ing act like it. Have some pride. Dont drag our name on the floor. Dont embarass us. If youre in a band then rep our ****. No matter what "level" you are at you have to know our sign. You have to rep us publicly (internet as well). And if you go to a show you do not just stay in the back and get drunk, you are up front and you care about the music. If you know how you can tag us up.

3. You respect it:
This is a family that we choose to be in. You help each other out. YOU DO NOT HELP DESTROY EACH OTHER and you sure as **** do not sit back and watch someone destroy themselves. Grow the **** up and get over the goddamned wasted lifestyle of getting ****ed up and regretting what you did the past day. If you want some respect then RESPECT YOURSELF. You dont create unnecessary drama. You dont slander us or our members but you call us on our ****.

4. You expose it:
You talk about it to people. You post it up everytime an event takes place. You rep it publicly and on the internet. You set shows up. You hook shows up. You take on projects that help get us attention.

5. You better it:
You learn from on another (ex: tagging, skating, playing instruments, running a label, setting up a show, etc). You teach on another. You appreciate what is given to you by giving back. You create and dont just tag along for the ride. You criticize constructively and offer ideas.

The guy who made us members was the dude from ACxDC, who's in Max Ward.

Oh, please. Call me Ethan.

War of the Sexes is the track I'm talking about. It's so good. Phobia's drummer is INSANE.

Damn, that song is INTENSE. I love Phobia like I love little babies being raped.

...

Scratch that, make that simply "I love Phobia."

"Cruel" is f'ucking brutal.
"Cursed" has nice drums.
I heard "War of the Sexes" a while back, but it's still good.

I'm listening to RAMBO for the first time not on a split, and they are much better on full length than split. Like, a lot better, I actually like them. Do they have a different vocalist on their split with Caustic Christ, or is he just better on Bring It!?

I think it is the same guy. I saw them a few weeks ago (with Caustic Christ). Fun as hell. If you like the split with Caustic Christ, then check out Wall of Death The System. One of my favorite albums.

Hey guys, my side project (Grave Digger, Like The Monster Truck) took the time to quickly record a couple songs today. Tell me what you guys think. Keep in mind, these are demo records, especially while listening to "D.A. Will Dig Your Grave".

Subvert, good stuff, REAL good stuff.

I was just wondering, are any of you guys into black metal? Besides grind and hardcore, it's my favorite genre of music. I'd just like to know if anyone else is into black metal, besides me.

I like some black metal, like Impaled Nazarene and Mayhem, but not much, to be honest. I'm more of a thrash metal and death metal, kind of guy.

Some death metal is ok, just not really big into it.

For those of you who liked the Grave Digger, Like The Monster Truck songs I posted up yesterday, I put up three brand new ones. Check out the new GDLTMT and lemme know what you think:
