Any suggestions welcome really :D.

I don't really like any other bands that sound like Opeth. A lot of their albums have really poor production and their vocalists arn't that great. They just seem to pale in comparison for me.
I can't name any names, because they've slipped my mind, I think I looked "Agalloch" though.

I just think Mikael's statement get's taken way out of context. The last sentence in his whole statement becomes the topic title and all of a sudden everyone acts like he went on a whole rant about how much Lordi sucks.
Important note: Blabbermouth users tend to be pathetic virgins who do nothing but piss and moan about how much a band sucks or how much of an asshole some musicians are.Their opinions are worth about a half a cent.

I don't know, Mikael has been known to be very selective about what he listens to, and he's always been vocal about bands he likes and dislikes. It wouldn't surprise me if that were true.
Thing I took from Akerfeldt interview:
Have you heard the band Naked City?
Yeah, oh yeah! Is that him?! Oh ****! I’ve been listening to them, the guy who ran our first record label, candlelight, he was a very big fan of Naked City and he played us some of their stuff and it’s just amazing. I’m not sure if I think it’s good, but I’m absorbed in it. It’s almost funny because it’s so extreme. They had one song where they put in like thirty different music styles in one song it went from Jazz to Grind Metal…
Mhm, its called “Speedfreaks,” and I’ve seen them do it live.
You must have been laughing.
It was great and the funny part is that most of them are very unassuming, almost boring looking.
And they’re a bit older. Are they American?
Yeah.
**** yeah, I was laughing when I first heard it because I didn’t know if it was a joke or not...
Another one:
BEDLAM: We are not big fans of KATATONIA but hearing this was a different story. I thought it was a totally new band. Good tour going on, sold out shows, what happened with LACUNA COIL?
MIKAEL: They didn't get their green cards, but it's no big loss to me because I think they suck.
And I've also read tons of stuff about when they were on the Sounds of the Underground Tour, how it should be called the "Sellout Tour", and how all the bands suck on it and stuff. He reminds me of me. :p

MOst cell phones have like editors to create music, although if it's a monophonic cellphone it will sound crappy.
Anyhow, most modern cell phones have infrared ports to trade info with say, lap tops capable for such tasks and you can create midi's using programs like Huitar Pro, then load them into your cell phone and Presto! you get a ringtone. Sony Ericsson's and Nokia's have the best user interfaces.

Manchester or Nottingham for me! This will be my first Opeth gig. :o
Edit: Oh, and about Mikael saying he thinks other bands suck... I don't think it's the wisest move on his part, and it sort of puts him down a little in my books. Saying they don't like the music is fine, saying the band sucks though seems childish and much more easily for a band to take personally, especially if they end up in similar circles. I wouldn't want to meet up with a band who I said sucked in an interview. If i'd said I didn't like their music much, however, I wouldn't mind meeting them as people.
Having said that, I don't really care, he's allowed an opinion and he's allowed to express it. No need for anyone to get worked up over a musician expressing themselves.

yep MAYH is an excellent album. And when I listened to it fully I realized Martin Lopez copied a lot of drum beats and rhythms and used them in later songs.
Like... OK there's the a rhythm in "the Amen Corner", I believe, and it's used in the first heavy riff of "the Moor" and the the second heavy riff in "Wreath". Yeah awkwardness, indeed.

It only took me a week to get into Opeth but I still havent' really gotten in to Dream Theater as much as Opeth.
But anyways, the album that got me into it was Still Life, when this dude in my school let me listen to The Moor, I thought it was an odd band but I progressively got into it and loved it.
Whats funny is that I have never seen Still Life in any record store I've stepped foot in, so I had to burn that bad boy cause I really don't feel like ordering it online.

I've listened to classic rock since I was a small child. It grows on you. Uh huh.
I was a classic rock kid too. My dad raised me since infancy on the Beatles, Dylan, the Stones, etc.

Not me lol, my mom likes country, so that's what I grew up listening to, I never liked it though.
So I like Opeth now, they definitely grew on me, once I got past the growls, and got into some more metal, they are a great band. I've been listening to Blackwater Park a lot lately. \m/

The Beatles will always have special place in my heart no matter how much more I get into metal.
I honestly see my self pulling a Metal Guitar within the next 2 years and listen to primarily classic(Opeth will stay in regular rotation though :) ).

I have very bad luck with that and My arms, your hearse. I've seen all the other releases. They kinda avoid me. :(
On a related note, Benighted got me into Opeth, because it's a great finger-picking song, then I read somewhere Black Rose Immortal was the greatest, most epic Death metal song and I got it, then... Circle of tyrants and demon of the fall an so on and so forth.

I actually think Blackwater Park is fairly overrated. It has some of my favoruite Opeth songs on it (namely The Lepper Affinity, which is one of my favourite all time songs) but i think its too inconsistant.Harvest,Dirge For November and Patterns In The Ivy are all very average IMO.And The Funeral Portrait has some cool riffs, but gets a bit boring. In saying that though,id be proud as **** if i came up with those songs.

Agreed. Leper Affinity, Bleak, and Harvest all rule, so does a good bit of TDF but then some of the death metal parts bore me...the beginning of Dirge is nice but then metal part is mediocre for Opeth, The Funeral Portrait is also mediocre. Fortunately Patterns in the Ivy/Blackwater Park is the most kickass ending of any Opeth album, but the album doesn't stay strong the whole way through the way I wish it would. Meanwhile, Still Life, which is the other competitor for number one, has hardly any weak spots.

I know I'm weird but that's not even the part of the song that I like most. The very intro is sweet with the weird telephone effect, and so's the acoustic part with those disgustingly awesome growls, and of course the middle section. It's one of Opeth's eeriest songs IMO. Also sexiest.

I never thought the lyrics of that song were so great (the vocal melodies, on the other hand...) I think it's the rhyme scheme. Usually I have no problems with that rhyme scheme or with Opeth using one that's restrictive (Face of Melinda has awesome lyrics) but IMO they just don't "work" on that song.

If you're going to buy, at least support the band! Buying used copies doesn't bring any revenue to the musicians.
When I do occasionally buy, I buy new. I like knowing that the money is going to the people who brought me the music, and not some lard who sits on his arse all day buying and selling CDs.

I know almost all of the parts in The Leper Affinity, minus the acoustic part.

Yeah, the only parts I never got round to learning were the solo and the acoustic outro. Overall the riffs aren't that hard but it took quite a while to learn.

The triplet riff at 2:10 took me forever to get down, but the rest isn't all that bad. They're incredibly fun to play, though.

All the way through, I can play Demon of the Fall and I just learned In My Time of Need yesterday...
I can also play a bunch of riffs, including most of The Drapery Falls and Closure...
The next song I want to learn is Closure. I've attempted many times, but that crazy third riff always halts my progress. I can never get it to sound as clean as Akerfeldt does...

**** yeah, man!
No matter how bad of a day I've had, when I listen to that song, I feel vindication.

Eh I know a few full songs by Opeth...
In my time of need, The drapery falls, on my way into The leper affinity, Bleak, and almost there with Serenity painted death.

I think I'm going to listen to my Opeth cd to sleep that I made with a bunch of songs from the albums I don't have.
Should be fun.
