1349 - Pitch Black
I like the way it all fits togeth in terms of sound. I like the riff. It's a shame there's only one to be heard whether because of song writing or production just blends them. The vocals I like. Excellent black metal vocals. The production is my biggest complaint. I don't like repetition either but production really kills this. I know it's not supposed to be perfect but better than this would be nice. The drummer seems more focused on speed than skill. He's nothing special from what else there is out there. Not a bad drummer though. He has the most audible changes in what he does, excluding the vocals. The bass is nowhere to be heard. I think overall I prefer the symphonic or avant garde brand of black metal. I'll look for more but not from this band.

DEP - When Good Dogs Do Bad Things
I downloaded this track as a movement to give DEP another chance, having heard some of their older work long ago and not really liked it. My tastes have grown more extreme since my last Dillinger experience, so I didn't dismiss them immediatly this time. The first minute and the very last few seconds of the song sounded the same to me as Dillinger always has, and failed to impress me. Most of the disjointed riffs aren't very interesting, but they'll throw in a good one here or they to have me say 'Oh, oh, please capitalize on that!' before going back into plugging away. There are good points to this song in particular - the quieter section in the middle of the song and the outbursts that came from it were both executed excellently. The vocalist stood out to me, as well.
This was a well constructed song, but I still can't say I'm very interested in DEP's schtick on the whole. 6/10

The production is a big part of the music in black metal, I like it to have a really biting, hissing guitar tone, like Ulver or Darkthrone. The drums shouldn't be too far in the front either.

This was a great song, I have always liked Pearl Jam and I think this must be one of their best that I have heard. Eddie Vedder, in my opinion has an amazing voice, and this song definitely showcases that. The guitar riff is catchy and keeps my interest throughout the whole song.

Led Zeppelin - The Lemon Song (Classic Rock/Blues)
The song starts out with a nice riff that seems actually tasteful (most Zeppelin I've heard was showing off), and then the bassline comes in (I really like the bass in this song, John Paul Jones is the only non overrated member of the band).
So Robert Plant starts his annoying high pitched screach, or so I thought he would, then he sounds more along the lines of a mixture of Chris Cornell (sp? can't think) and Anders Friden. He does each line with A loud and and enlongated phrase, then he goes quieter and repeats, truly entertaining and enjoyable. Then the song speeds up for a while, it's more of the showing off Zepplin, but JPJ makes it enjoyable, cause the bassline gets even better. Then there is another part like the beginning, except this time Jimmy Page plays the awesome guitar he's known for, that I thought was a myth, btw the solo owns, and then Robert starts saying Hey over and over again, followed by Baby, and the drums get a little better, the solo picks up, and then what do ya know? The fast part again!
Overall this is one of the best Zeppelin songs I've heard, it has actually redeemed them in my eyes.

Black Sabbath - Fairies Wear Boots
Sounds good! The songs starts with a metal lick and then the second guitar comes in with a simple lriff. The bass is active and sounds great. The guitar breaks out into a solo. But then goes into the power chords and Ozzy joins in shortly after. It sounds really bluesy in my opinion. Like blues and hard rock. It's cool though! The solo is modest and stays true to the song (which is great). Then it goes into a heavier portion of the song. Ozzys vocals sound great. Then song ends in a metal lick that fades. The song changes from more of a metal sound to more of a blues sound. They pull it off though. Good song!
I would really like to see what someone thinks of Bruce Dickinsons solo project when he left Maiden for a bit.

Beck - Where It's At
Smooth funky intro, a bit hip hop, a bit Sublime.. pretty laid back
Hey... "Two turntables and a microphone..." I've heard this song once before on the radio.
The chourus is a bunch of people saying "where it's at" then the above line. The same drumbeat remains but there is industrial screeches and stuff along with it.
An 80's electronic bit breaks up the funky bit, for just one bar.
Then some strange samples including "that was a good drum break"
It does the same things again, not in any particular order, but flowing well all the same. Lots of random humourous samples.
In the middle theres a quieting, with a sax solo. Flanged vocals and just a drum beat.
Then a section for solos, theres a guitar, an organ, then another guitar going randomcore. All over this laid back beat. And it fades out on that loop with the random solo.
The genre mixing was pretty good as the flow between everything was done well.
I haven't heard very much Beck yet, I've read that he mixes all sorts of stuff well, and so far I can only agree with that. It was good, laid back, and I do like the genre mixing. Some of the random bits get to me, but not very much. Nothing really super special going for it.

Eluveitie - Lament
Starts out fast with celtic instruments. A bit intersting, and the vocals come in clean shortly thereafter, and quickly change to harsh. The clean vocals were a bit on the lame side, but the harsh ones are not bad.
Slows down a bit, with a fiddle part, speeds back up into another verse after a few measures. It reminds me a bit of at the gates with celtic instruments up to this point.
The slowed down fiddle part returns, which I am assuming now is the chorus of the song, although there are no words for it. This time it is accompanied by some sort of flute halfway through it.
The song breaks down after this with bass, fiddle, drums, and flute. As the flute stops, the guitar comes back in with a neat little lead, and is that slap bass i hear in the background? yes it is.
Another verse follows, but this time the second half gets blasted, which is a nice touch, it keeps the song from getting repetative. Although the transition into the chorus from the blast beat just doesnt sound right in my head. After this time around, the song ends.
Verdict: 7.5/10
It isn't a bad song at all, but in my opinion more could have been done with it. There are a few things in the song which irk me just slightly, but I will definitely give this band more of a listen to because the song drew my intrested in. Not the best song i have ever heard, but pretty solid all around.
For anyone interested, i suggest:

Enslaved - Bounded By Allegiance
The quick description alone was pretty interesting.
Anyway, muted distorted guitars open it, it sounds like its going to be a 7/8 intro, but it refills the bar to a 4/4.. then overfills it to a 5/4, interesting. Rudiment style drums come in, theres also ambient kebyoard in there. The drumming changes to a double-kick based pattern.
About 1:35, it all stops but a distorted guitar is playing a new part, its melodic and simpler in the rhythm. Drums come back in normal 4/4, not fast, there's also some deep choir vocals that sound good but are too quiet. Sounds a bit like Maynard from Tool actually.
Chorus now? We have death vocals and double kick and faster feel, and a rising chord progression that sounds tense. The vocals are still too low in the mix (it's not even like the usual black metal production either, much cleaner and balanced). The vocals are set out - 4 bars with, 4 bars without.
After this, it drops into 6/8, with just guitar and buzzing synth. Drums add a simple 1212 thing over the top, then it goes suddenly back to the deep choir bit. Some high guitar with some effect that reminds me of Korn (not a bad thing), just using a major key.
Another new bit follows this and it's still melodic, more like some viking metal I've heard, a guitar solo comes in after a bit, sounds pretty easy actually.. heh mid-guitar solo theres a big growl, and double kick returns. The one guitar riff keeps repeating, but the drums keep changing, getting faster and faster.
7.5/10
And there I end the review as suddenly as the song ended, maybe it flows to the next track... Anyway, they had a good powerful melodic sound and good variety in the music. I do think the song structure needs work though, especially with the cohesion.

Don't know if anyone's said this one yet...
Not the most technical breakdown of a song ever...but it'll do I guess
Nile- Unas Slayer of the Gods
Starts out with a riff Karl Sanders admitted was identical to the Candlemass riff on the 'Nightfall' album. The song then continues with a death metal variation of that riff. Until the 5 minute mark, where it fades away and a horn is blazing with the drums following leads the song further. Tony Lauerano presents some truly amazing drum work with a double bass riff showing dedication to the Egyptian theme of the song. It doesn't end there, with another 3 minutes of awesome guitar solos over the main theme of the song. What follows is an acoustic passage in which the legend Unas (last pharoah of the 5th dynasty) is told by dark whispers. Finally the song ends after an epic 11 minutes with a monstrous riff. Aren't all death metal songs meant to be 5 minutes or less?
Others
Emperor- I Am the Black Wizards. One of the best black metal songs ever. Most recommended.
Opeth- The Drapery Falls. Beautiful song. Good use of clean vocals and acoustic guitars.
Dimmu Borgir- Kings of the Carnival Creation. Complex, with good use of riff repitition and a bit of clean voice, courtesy of the master Vortex. Would have been hard as hell putting it together.
Mayhem- Pagan Fears. One of the best opening riffs of all time, IMO. One of the better songs on the 'De Mysteriis...' album. Atilla does a good job on the vocals here, too.

This'll be my first time listening to Mogwai, though I know vaguely what sort of band they're supposed to be.
Mogwai - Dial:Revenge - 3:28
Before I start, I'll just say I was surprised with the length of the song. From what I've heard of Mogwai, I expected very long songs.
Anyway, starts off with just acoustic guitar, then some soft, reptitive vocals come in in the background, along with more guitar/bass, I think. It all swells up to the first verse very nicely.
I'm not entirely sure what the vocalist is going on about; I can't really hear the words clearly over the music (which may now (1:15 or so) include some strings) anyway, and there's some hard, almost Welsh-sounding sounds in what I can hear that makes me think he's not speaking English.
The voice is not intrusive at all, though, and doesn't detract from the music at all. And the music is just great. There's not much to say about it really - gentle percussion, and lots of acoustic strings all over the place - but it's really quite beautiful.
The voice is now, I'm fairly sure, completely non-lyrical. Just noises, in an almost Sigur Ros-esque way. That doesn't last long though, as the song fades out rather soon after.
8.5/10, I think. The only thing I found wanting was the length - it's the kind of song I'd like to drift off into, and it wasn't long enough to really get that happening.
Songs;
Canvas Solaris - When Solar Winds Collide (very technical instrumental metal)
Cruachan - Sunday Bloody Sunday (Irish metal)
Circle Takes the Square - Non-Objective Portrait of Karma (emo)
Phlebotomized - Mellow Are the Reverberations (epic death metal)
Birdsongs of the Mesozoic - This Way Out (progressive rock)
The Flamings Lips - Race For the Prize (vaguely psychedelic rock)
The Levellers - Dog Train (folky rock)
The Wildhearts - Geordie in Wonderland (this probably won't work too well if you're not English, or familiar with England)

Circle Takes The Square - Non-Objective Portrait Of Karma (emo/screamo/metal)
I just downloaded this off my friend last night, and didn't get to listen to it, but I like most of the CTTS that I've heard, so here comes the review.
The song starts out with a high pitched reverberating sound, that goes into a nice little melody, good intro, different from most of their stuff I heard. A little bit into the intro the drummer plays the symbols quitely every 5 seconds or so. Then the guitar kicks in about 1/3 of the way and disapeers, then comes back in for the whole thing. then about 1/2 way the bass joins in, it's really nice sounding. Then it quiets down a little, into another nice melody, the singer joins in with some nice strangled singing, I can't really understand him because he's singing quitely. Then he starts screaming, good heavy, more screamo than emo, but the good oldschool style, not the ****ty waaah you ruined my life stuff. Then he screams THE PORTRAIT OF KARMA and then the music gets more metal, and at this point a second singer joins in, and it keeps getting heavier and slower. It's the extreme opposite of reppetativeness (except for the intro. Then they go back to a quiet part, and it fades into a gregorian chant, with the screaming over it.
The song was kinda weird, not like any of their songs I heard before (I only heard two of them and they were rap-metal). Overall I'd say about a 7/10.
Choices are:
Korn - Camel Song (Funk/Nu-Metal)
Taproot - Justice Is Blindfolded (Nu-Metal)
In Flames - The Quiet Place (Nu-Metal)

I will review The Quiet Place by In Flames, i have ot in my list, so it´s easier...
The music starts with some atmospheric keyboards and effects (-1 for the effects). Then comes the downtuned guitar and more effects.
The highlight of the music, maybe of In Flames, is Anders, he change from the scream to clean vocals all the time, which isn´t bad. The other members aren´t so impressive, maybe this is a consequence of the eletronic effects in the whole the music.
The drum work is very simple, very straight, the way this song stars it ends, nothing of changes...
This is a very catchy music, that kind that stay in your mind for hours. The chorus is sung by Anders and a choir, really catchy.
But it´s nothing special, i used to like In Flames till R2R...

/couldn't find Morgana Lefay - Red Moon, but in the intrest of keeping this alive, I'll do Morgana Leafy = To Isengard
running time 5:17
Intro starts off with a kinda epic Distorted guitar riff, I like the crunchy tone, and the drums and bass lock down to keep a steady groove.
At about 40 seconds the vocals come in, and they didn't impress me at all.
At 1:05 a slight variation is introduced riffwise which helps to relieve the mononity of the song so far.
This whole sequence is reapeated a good couple of times untill an entirely different riff(:amaze: ) kicks in at about 2:15.
Same tempo. basically same rhythm. Just different notes. slight overdubs to create ambience, and if i wasn't so mind-numbingly bored....they might work.
Break down occurs at 2:42.
Teeny weeny little build up to some morbidly slow and plodding harmonized leads....before kicking back into the start riff. Occasional overdubs by keyboards etc.... I feel this song would really, really benefit from orchestration. but alas that didn't occur to them :upset:
4:20 back into the second main riff...hmmm deja vú?
at 4:46 a cool outro commences. unfortunately you need to sit through 4:46 of tedious song to get to it.
All in all, This piece could have been much better if it at least had a bit more diversification tempo and riff wise. The vocals grated on my nerves, but they might be for some people. So we end with a 4/10. I dunno what the rest of their stuff is like, but I'm not inclined to check it out

I looked the band up on Metal-Archives, and it listed them as "melodic power metal". I thought to myself, "What other kind is there?"
Anyways, the song starts off with great, melodic shredding. It is soon backed up by solid power metal drumming. The shredding continues on the same basic shred line, but with tons of great little variations, for about 1:20, then it stops and goes into some really slow breakdown part. This is boring, by 2:00 a slow lead has picked up. It's alright for a power metal fan I guess, but I don't like it. Luckily, at 3:30 the great shredding comes back. At 4:20 or so it stops, like it did in the breakdown before, but this time is just keeps winding down and the song is over.
5/10 Nothing that particularly makes me want to listen to the whole thing over again.

This song starts off with a very fast riff over a blast beat. At about 0.17, the vocals come in over the same guitar riff and the drums switch to a basic rock beat. The vocals are your basic death metal vocals that are a little higher pitch then norma. At the pre-chorus, the guitar changes to a really cool harmonized riff, the drums go into siezures of insanely fast blast beats, and a second lower range vocal style appears. At the chorus there is another similar harmonized riff. And when the line "for all our sins" is spoken, the riff changes again to something similar to the verse riff. In the second half of the chorus, the riff changes again to a classic swedish riff. At 4.05 the bridge kicks in. The bridge consists of a simple, hardcore, chord progression and plenty of double bass drumming. Also, the vocals are slightly lower in pitch. At 5.05 the guitar switches to a slow swedish style riff which goes on for about a minute untill the end of the song while the lyrics basically cry out for forgiveness in tortured screams.
Overall, this song song doesn't reinvent the wheel, but a fine sounding, flawlessly executed wheel it is.

By "swedish riffs" I think he meant the melodic riffs used in the song... there are only a few, that's why I called it "semi-melodic"

Arsis - The Face of My Innocence - A Celebration of Guilt
Melodic Death with Black/Thrash/Progressive influences
Running time 5:30 approx
Intro: High tempo Blastbeat(I'm guessing) and launches into a brutal assualt on the ears. Guitar riff is very technical and the drums are pretty insane. I like it :D
About 18 secs in we settle down into the verse and the vocals join in, they seem pretty much your typical Death metal vocals. The intro riff is developed on for the verse on the technicality of the musicians is really impressive. Strangely enough, I can even tolerate the vocals.
35 secs in and already we have a new secion. The section keeps up the intensity and is just some heavy mother****ing riffage. This is good shi!
About 50 secs in the heavy *** riffage is continued in an instrumental form, and I do belive I hear Squeals :D
1:08 and the vocals join back in and we revisit the verse riff before shortly switching to the chorus(I assume) riff which is nice and melodic and creates a nice sense of juxtaposition. After this we head back into old territory for a bit before switching to yet another section at 2:27. This is a kinda epic half time riff and adds a great feel of continuation and pace to the song.
2:58 and a guitar solo has sauntered across my speakers the playing seems good from what I can tell, unfortunately that isn't very much as the solo is buried in the mix. Shortly we are joined by the vocals before switching to yet another section, this is a much lighter riff when compared to teh rest of the song, but it's still cool. At 3:30 the vocals build on top of the riff and the drums sound massive here. We kick back into what I deemed the verse riff before changing into a new riff, Again!. one guitar is playing alead melody, the other palm muted arpegios and both are goingat a half time feel whilst the drums carry on regardless. This all breaks down into a variation of the previous riff, but still carrying the arpegio feel.
At 5:05 we have anotehr guitar solo, Playing is mediocre but it's placed slightly better in the mix. And from there we fade out
I was impressed, Tempo changes, Great technicality, Great,Heavy, Massive riffage, Even the vocals were alright. Solos and squeals and the drummer seems to be a fan of power metal double bass \m/. The only problem I had with this song as the recording quality and the Mix in whichthe drums were slightly too promenant. Even with those faults it gets a 9/10 and I'm already downloading more of their stuff

Mercyful Fate - Melissa
Slow melodic fingerpicked guitar arpeggio opens things, a distorted guitar screams fairly quickly in and starts playing some lead. That stops and just the guitar is there, vocals start, a male tenor, not the best voice.
Slow drums then start and then some really high power metal vocals, they sounded pretty bad, I don't know whether that was the same guy or a woman... either way they were bad. The guitarwork reminds me of Simon & Garfunkel. The singing stops and some "oooh's" float around the background.
At 2:10, it gets heavy, but not fast at all, old school heavy metal. The high voice gives a cry of "Melissa!" and something else. This goes on just a few bars.
Then we have a new section, it has finger picked guitar again but feels faster, and drums are along with it. The normal vocals are back, and theres some lead guitar work. Quickly goes back to the "Melissa!" bit. After that it gets even faster and heavier, theres more high vocals for a bit.
It then descends back into a guitar solo over a slow riff and drum beat, which goes on for a while. Then back to the faster finger picked bit, the lead guitar starts to solo again, and calls of "Melissa!" fill the air again.
At 6:00, it slows back down again to just fingerpicked guitar and the tenor vocals, I also just realized that Melissa is someone who died from the last line about her being taken away. It end's on a chord, and theres a whisper of "I think Melissa is still with us"
Well, theres some older prog heavy metal, I think the flow could have been better, changes seemed too abrupt and random. I wasn't too keen on the vocals either, especially the high ones. The fingerpicked guitar was probably the best bit to me, it sounded really good.
Overall, it was alright. 6.8/10

Anathema - Are You There?
The beginning of this song is very atmospheric, sounds like it could be Pink Floyd. Piano. There are soft female vocals in the background. Then the male comes in with soft-sung vocals. Very nice song so far. Could go to sleep to it. Guitar-echo sounds in the background. Sounds like there is some record studio effects. The guitar comes in with a clean riff and then the bass and drums come in. Very slow, smooth beat. Some echoing of the snare hit going on, again with the studio effects. Very faint chorus oohs and aahs. He starts singing. ****, this song is so friggen' mellow. While I listen to this song, I keep seeing a movie where there is a girl drowning and there is a guy in a boat frantically trying to save her and its all in slow motion? Around the 3:05 mark the drums does some crash cymbals and everything is suddenly gone, and we're back to that eerie, atmostpheric attitude at the beginning with the oohs and aahs.
Overall, the song was so **** mellow. I almost fell asleep listening to it. Very good song though.

Cradle Of Filth - Nymphetamine
First off, cool name of a song. I've heard some CoF before and they're not so bad. Chessy, but alright.
The song begins with a chorus singing a mior meoldy and then guitar and synth and drums come in. There are swells int he back too. A female voice comes in. The tambre of her voice is a little strange but sounds alright. More like Gothic Metal here especially when the male voice comes in. It's like over effected black metal vocals. I like the production. The song is a bit repetitve and I wish the drumming were more technical. Just as I say this it is stepped up a bit and the melody changes and the double bass pedal comes in. I prefer the second melody. It focuses more on the mans vocals and the strings in that section are cool. The outro is like 80's pop.
The song is a bit corny but I liked it. It assures me that CoF are not Black Metal but more of a goth pop group with occasional black metal vocals.

Neurosis - Locust Star
Starts out with a droning/fading in intro. About 25 seconds in the drums start up and there is a clean electric guitar riff played. Some wierd noises are going on in the background here... I think another guitar and vocals with effects. Pretty cool overall effect. Quiets down around 1:11 and starts back up with a scream. The guitar goes into overdrive. A melodic riff is played. The vocals are yelling but still understandable. There is a much deeper backup voice behind the lead vocalist. The guitar riffs all flow together nicely. The song is kind of a slower one. Pretty good guitar tones and pretty good production. It seems a slight bit repetitive to me. I don't really like the vocals all that much but I like that they're understandable for the most part.
Overall I thought this was a decent song, not really my type of music though. I'd give it a 6/10.

Arsis - Looking To Nothing (3:22)
This song starts out with some sweet double bass and the guitars come in. It sounds really rough cut. A pretty sweet riff, while the drummer's smashing away. Ohhh I really like the vocals. ****. Nice screamed vocals, he's quite the good screamer. Then there is a sweet little shred lick and it goes into a harmonized guitar part. I could really get into this band. His vocals are amazing, I love them. After the harmonized guitar part the drummer does a sweet double bass rhythm, and then there is sort of a reprise section where its just guitars, but before you know it, the drums are right back in it. At the moment I'm thinking about getting some more from this band.

I chose this song because it has a cool name. Actually, I'd heard the other two already, but I would've gone for this one anyway, because of the cool name.
Nevermore - Nacrosynthesis - 5:15
Starts off very nicely, pounding drums (but not continuously pounding), and then slips into some chugging guitar. Vocals come in, and at first they seemes less than impressive. I'm quickly changing to quite liking them, though, apart from the occasional stupid effect. Little mini-solo thing after the first chorus (which includes the ultra-cool word).
Another quick verse, and the whole thing slows down, with some good, slower riffing. The guy has a very melodramatic way of singing, I think, but it's surprisingly good to listen to. The only thing I object to is that the structure of the song just seems to keep repeating itself.
Around 3:30, a solo starts, slow at first, and now it's building up to something really cool. I like it, especially more so than solos which just seem to bear no relation to the song they come from. This one did, which is good.
Another solo around 5:00, shorter this time; though it reminds me a bit too closely of the last one, it's still good. A quick burst of medium-paced riffing, and the song ends.
8/10 That was a good, solid metal song. I get the feeling that if I listened to more than one song like that though, it would get fairly annoying fairly fast, so I hope not all their songs sound similar.

Manowar - Battle Hymn - Battle Hymns
Heavy Metal
Approx. running time = 7:00mins.
http://www.metal-archives.com/images/83_photo.jpg - just so everyone gets a good idea of them
the song starts off with a very sombre clean guitar intro which is joined by chord/drum stabs and violins at 10 secs. It all creates a very emotional intro.
A rit. occurs at 35 secs before a drum fill enters at 50.. this fill starts of meticulosly slow and build up untill the whole song starts kicking off at !;00.
The whole thing has a kinda waltz feel and is still accompanied by the strings. The vocals join but they seem a bit off to me. This whole section continues unabaited for a while untill we reach the chants of "Kill! kill!" and dodgy backing vocals before going back into the waltzy section. Actually listening to te lyrics and remembering the name of the song, I discover that it has a whole battle/war theme to it :p We proceed back to the chants, this time of "victory! Victory!", in the normal fashion and at the end of them we are met with a breakdown. clean guitar eneters witha descending chromatic riff which is joined by soft vocals. This is then joined by a choir and gives the feel of a lulably before another drum fill takes us back to the waltzy section and a guitar solo kicks in. The tone isn't the best and the playing is pretty good. A good mix of technical and melodic playing. back to the "kill! kill!" section before a build up and back to a very emotional waltzy section.
A breakdown appears with the drums going bloody mental and feedback of the guitar variety, Eventually the drums stop and you have the final long drawn out chord. over this comes ascending vocals and we have finished.
overal about 7/10. It was cheesy and the music was good. Didn't particularly enjoy the vocals but other than that it was good.

-Blues Influenced/Rock/Metal-
Intro: Heavy, Distorted Guitar Riff comes into play. Drummer plays light hits on the hi-hats and Heavy Crash Cymbal Hits for a pretty sweet effect. All in all, the Intro makes you want to hear more of the song.
0:14 - A slight fill by the drummer, is the starting point for the lead guitarist to come in. The combination of the two really shows the good muscianship of the band, and really does, rock. Good solid song so far.
0:32 - The vocals come in. The singer has a deep, growly voice but is a clear, understandable singer. If you prefer higher vocals, than this song if not for you. But, keep listening.
1:03 - A nice, solid snare drum fill comes in, and the chorus begins. This part i really like, when the singer shouts: "Fire, Magic, he will find a piece of mind." Still, in the backround the Rhythm guitarist is doing a nice job.
1:21 - The Lead Guitarist comes in with a nice solo, that starts off kind of slow then speeds up as it progresses. This solo tops off what i think is a very powerful chorus.
1:37 - Verse II begins.
2:08 - Another Snare Fill kicks off the Chorus. Very Nice.
2:25 - A simple, catchy Snare-Bass beat on the drummers part. Then, at 2:30, another solo. I like this one a lot better than the first, because its more melodic. Solo is still going strong, when a familiar drum fill starts off the chorus again.
3:00 - Chorus
3:30 - I like the mixing of both the Chorus and the Lead guitarist shredding. Very nice work.
3:49 - The Song comes to a close, with the lyrics: "Fire, Magic. Fire, Magic." Song ends at 3 minutes, 58 seconds.
As a classic rock lover, i was skeptical of reviewing this song, for fear of it being to heavy metal-ish or just not good. I was wrong. While listening to it. I was awed. The solo's are amazing, they truly are. And The more and more i listened to the singer, his style and voice grew on me.
Pros: -You really should check out the lead guitarist. I liked his style of playing, and of course, his solo's were pretty good stuff.
-Good solid Rhythm guitar work
-Solid drums, not too complicated though.
Cons:
- I wish the song were longer, it kind of just ended.
- Lyrics were a little repetitive.
9/10: good stuff all around

2:03 - ****ing chaos here. Sounds kinda opera-ish with the violin and Patton's voice mixed; kinda like Emperor I guess without the screaming. Damn Patton's versitle.
2:17 - It gets calmer, with violin and Patton sounding like some 40-something

Fantomas - The Godfather 2:48
Basically I have no idea what to expect seeing as some of your other choices weren't metal and I have never heard anything by this group, cheers.
"The Godfather" starts on a laid back string arrangement thats rather pretty, so far this is really cool. BOOM! even though I kinda expected a freakout it still surprised me and boy does it rock. A big plus right now is that I can stand vocals. The fast drums and raspsy screams go well together.
At abot 1.30 the song goes back into it's beginng theme that I enjoy so very much. Again another plus, the band has the ability to pull back and use a sense of dynamics instead of just playing as fast as they can for three full minutes. Ha, the way the singer does the interlude makes me laugh but in a good way. The symphonic metal part just before the end is impressive too, I liked this song, Bravo!
8/10 Better then I expected
Anthrax - Gung Ho 3.32
My past experinces with Anthrax has been postive, I saw some video on VH1 classic where they were drenched in fake blood which I'm assuming is pretty metal. I'm thinking this song will be good.
Starts on a chunk a chunk chunk thrash riff. Soon the drums join in with a headbanging double bass rythmn. So far this tune is pretty catchy, the guitar tone is purty kickass. Why do I feel like punching someone in the face? I'm the least violent person ever.
At 1.32 the metal solo starts filled with with wah and divebombs. I'm liking this way more than I'm supposed to. It might have something to do with the "catchy hooks". The song ends with cool feedback noises, swell.

[/B]Cryptosy - Crown Of Horns[/B]
I have heard a lot of good things about Cryptosy, but never checked them out. I must say in hearing this I was impressed. They played stuff that was moderately complex, but amazingly fast, the song started out with a simple intro that was extremely fast, then the singer screamed something incomprehndable extremely high pitched, then they changed to a different tune and the singer started growling... that's when he started to suck... growling like that at a fast speed just doesn't do it for me, I respect that he can do that, but I cannot understand what he is saying, so after a while I tuned out the singing, the drummer was going nuts, then the guitarist(s?) and the bassist were playing some pretty nice stuff, but as I said before amazingly fast, then came the solo, that I was thoroughly impressed with, then they did another part like the rest of the song, the singing came in, went away... and it was over fast.
Overall I'd say it was a pretty good song.... kinda ridiculous, maybe a 6 or 7/10

Korn - Let's Do This Now
I was a massive Korn fan, and this track comes off of the only album I have yet to hear. Starts off with a bagpipe intro, the drums come in about about 10-15 seconds and keepi going for a bit. The song gradually gets louder, until the guitars and bass enter. It's the usual down-turned riffage from Korn(Not saying it as a bad thing, just stating it). And the bass...one thing I really hate about Korn. Fieldy just keeps slap-slap-slap-slapping, and it's aggrivating. Regardless of that, I'm enjoying the song so far. Jon's vocals come in, doing some clean vocals for a while, nothing new. After a little bit of this we hit the chorus, and Jon switches to his low-pitched screaming(Note:screaming, not growling, and definitely not death metal in any way). As always, the bass keeps on slapping throughout. One guitar plays the riff from the beginning whilst another handles the melody. This is followed by another verse and chorus, and then a breakdown. Wait, what's this? Fieldy stopped slapping his bass! Anyways, Jon sings some calm, clean vocals for a while, before letting out a huge yell of "NOWWWWWWWWWWWW". For a few seconds after it's just the drums and guitar for a bit, before the band plays the chorus once more to end the song.
Like I said, I've always been a Korn fan, and I'd have to say this is an improvement over Untouchables by a longshot. Not on par with their older work, but good nonetheless. 7/10

Appalling Spawn - Manthra of Hope
This pre-Lykathea band has all the members of Lykathea except the absolutely insane drummer, Thomas Corn, needless to say I had high hopes for it as Lykathea are my favorite band.
It starts off with an extremely brutal, angry roar courtesy of Ptoe, then it's straight into trademark brutal-but-kind-of-melodic Lykathea riffs. Also sounding reminiscent of Anata at this point. The drumming definitely does not dissapoint, although it can't compare to Corn's. Ptoe's vocals excel. Riffing is supreme. There is even what seems to be ambience going on amongst the brutality of some of the riffs at around 2:00 and 2:30.
This really reminds me of Lykathea, minus some of the ambient interludes. Thanks alot for making me check them out, I am getting the rest of the album as I type, from you :p

Sauron - Demonic Invasion
Hot damn, this is what I call thrash. Starts out with great double bass and a sweet riff. New riff, but it's just as good as the previous. Vocals kick in. I like how it's a cross of growling and clean, kinda gruff. So far, it's really reminding me of Dark Angel, and that is of course awesome. Nice new heavy riff for the chorus, vocals are still great. Another verse and chorus, and in comes a solo. Great **** here, no wankery or Kerry King bulls here. The intro riff comes back, and then the chrous riff after. At the end is just ****ing around, with double bass and guitars.
I can't believe I haven't heard of these guys. This is great textbook West Coast thrash, very similar to Dark Angel, almost proto-death sounding. Heavy as hell.

Overkill - Evil Never Dies
Wow!!!
Amazing Thrash metal right here
0:00 - 1:10... The song starts off with a slow neat guitar effect (I think) which slowly builds up and gets more intense as it goes on
1:11 - 1:25... The guitar effect turns to distortion, as the drums and bass join in, in basically a new intro to the song
1:26 - 1:57... This is where the amazing thrash comes into play. A wicked headbanging beat with heavy bass and precise triplets on the bassdrum.
1:58 - 2:51... A neat little 3 second acuostic segement that leads into a guitar solo with the thash beat in tha bass and drums still going. That lasts about 20 seconds and then it goes right back into the basic thrash verse, and through the guitar solo again.
2:52 - 3:50... The tempo slows down and the music gets less intense
3:51 - 4:23... The tempo slowly builds and builds, and before getting back to the verse you hear a loud "EVIL NEVER DIES" from the vocals and backing vocals (a great lead into the verse)
4:24 - 5:49 (end)... the song goes back into the verse with the guitar solo and all a couple more times, and the solos get more amazing in this part. The song ends off with another "EVIL NEVER DIES", which carries on for a few more seconds
Overall, this is an amazing killer thrash song by a great band :thumb:
My favorite parts were the loud bashing bass, intense guitar solos, and the "EVIL NEVER DIES" screams. GREAT SONG!!!

Carcass - Incarnated Solvent Abuse
Begins with a cool sample of someone talking. Sounds like a Halo II bit.
Then a great guitar and drum come in. The guitar is very cool but then get's better when the sectiosn change. And then... a 3rd riff. Also very cool. The vocals come in and are prety standard death vocals. They are the high pitched kind, not the gutteral growl. The riffs seem more repeated now and are less cool. There is a cool slower section which goes into a fast section but it's not technical enough to feel really blazing. Oh... there it is. The drums are great. I've heard Carcass but hadn't noticed the druming this much before. The guitar solo starts off kind of weak but picks up steam. It's a bit short.
This is a pretty basic song structure but fortunately the repeated parts are good. The lows on the guitars are a little thin I notice. A second guitar solo. This one is much cooler. A bit more experimental than the first, not staying within the key entirely which I like. I like the riff after the solo too. This is definitely more about the guitars than vocals which is good for death metal, usually. The time changes sometimes feel a bit awkward but are handles well. The ending leaves something to be desired.
A good song but it has it's flaws. I think I'll look into this Carcass album. I've only heart Heartwork and Swansong.

Never heard, or heard of, these guys before.
Carnival in Coal - Yes! We Have No Bananas - 5:32
Starts off with some stabs of sound, with raspy vocals on each one, saying something I can't make out (presumably "we have no bananas today" or something). This is followed by a keyboardy melody for a little bit, before blasting fully into metal, with those rasping vocals (which aren't awful, but aren't great either) saying things I can't decipher, and female operatic vocals, quietly, in the background. I don't like the drums all that much either, they sound like they've been programmed without much finesse (and if they're not actually programmed, then they just sound weird).
A quieter section comes in, but the guitars are still crunchy and heavy. There's a clean voice now, singing (kind of), sounding scared, about having no bananas. I actually quite like this bit, and it's followed by another quiet, guitarless bit, which seems a bit pointless but isn't unpleasant. Raspy comes back in later. I think there may well be sound effects in the background, but I can't make them out well enough to talk about. He definitely said something about not having bananas there. His vocals are actually quite a bit better than I first thought.
This is okay so far. Very strange, but nothing amazing, yet. Nothing terrible either though. Some funky stuff going on without any kind of backing, around 2:30. Clean voice guy comes back in, talking about bananas again, but throwing apples in too. The drums come back in too, but they're not the unimpressive pounding of before. Occasional stabs of harsh guitar, and background vocals saying "no no no no" mean I quite like this bit. The lyrics, when I can make them out, are cool.
The song fades out on repetitions of this, which is a bit of a weak way to end. It sounds like it should have some more definite ending. Still, that was pretty good, especially from 2:30-when the repetition started. Lose some of the background sound effects (some were okay) and I'd be looking for an album, I think. They're French though, so they won't listen.

Bob Dylan - Oxford Town 1:47
Begins with an acoustic guitar part. Pretty folksy. I've never been a fan of Dylan but I also haven't heard many songs. The guitar part makes me think of the soundtrack to a boxcar trainride.
The vocals aren't as bad as I thou- oh yes they are. He started off being comprehensible and unannoying but then he started sounding stupid like he has a thick tongue. I like the lyrics...sort of. Very simple but nice and they carry some meaning. I also like the volume swell in guitar when the vocals go out.
I really do hate this voice.
I think I hear a second instrument in there. A mandolin maybe? pretty cool. It's a good thing this song is so short because it is really repetitive.
I liked the song better than other Dylan but I'm not swayed to download any more.

Canvas Solaris - When Solar Winds Collide
this is what a google turned up on them: CANVAS SOLARIS could be classified as “thinking man’'s metal.” Their debut, Spatial/Design, is perplexing technical metal bursting with way too many musical acrobatics to even bother with vocals. The four spacey and ultra complex tracks have a running time of over 25 minutes and cover the gamut of metal'’s many facets. This young trio have learned their lessons well. Their masters are Spiral Architect, Watchtower, Cynic and King Crimson. Their peers are few. Canvas Solaris stands alone.
The song starts off with Clean guitar w/ dealy playing 'epic' chords I guess. This is faintly accompanied by a synth to give a very moving intro.
This continues untill about 30 secs when the whole band kicks in and the clean guitar switches to distortion. At this point in time think along the lines of sprial architecht riffage, very technical but with the bass providing much more of a steady groove. Actually this riff has elements of Power metal \m/ to it. This section has a kind of disjointed drum part untill about 50 secs where it settles down for a bit give the song a bit of drive before the disjointed rhythm kicks in again.
1:05 and enter a solo descending chord progression before the rest of the band kick back in for a frenzied harmony section with extremly good playing all round. Defintely showcasing instrumental prog at it's finest. The drumming here is slightly Portnoy-esque as it barely sticks to a regular beat.
at 2 mins we have an arpegiated riff which appears to be a chours so to speak as we visit by means of more riffing before entering another clean section.
This has the feel of a breakdwon section to it with the Tom Rhythm from the drums, it also sounds familiar(Satiani I think) in places. This Clean section then develops into a very emotional all, which at times actually brings to mind some Uematsu work.
We then switch back into distortion and re-visit riffage similar to that of the start of the song but this time with a phenomenal guitar solo over the top. This playing is flawless and certainly brings to mind Petrucci in places but in a more easy going way I feel. This solo brings us to the close of the song.
I'd say 9/10 this piece was great. My only real vice is with the tones of the guitarist but I can put up with that. This song brings to mind DT but ina less iffy and more easy going way. Definatly great I would reccomend it to any fan of Instrumental Prog.
Second review w/ reccomendations coming in a min.

Alchemist - Chinese Whispers
Here's what a google search turned up on them: Alchemist - Official site. Australian psychedelic metal band. I think I'm going to like this band :)
Intro starts off with clean Bass, followed by high hat and with a slight slide w/ dealy we muscle our way into the main idea of the song. And it's heavy. Full band with distortion and good storng vocals. A relaxed tempo with double bass drum provides pace and rhythme for this song, whilst the guitar, though their sounds are muddy, have a kinda middle eastern feel to them. This section of the song continues untill 1:30 when in breaks a supremely heavy riff topped by screamy vocals. We then switch back to the original calmer section with the middle eastern feel, this feel is complemented by little overdubs. We then switch back to extremely heavy section again before this is joined by a little lead guitar fill.
At about 3:00 mins ,in keeping with the middle eastern feel, both guitars play seperate melodies, one on clean and one on distortion bothe coming in from seperate channels.
After this we progress to a new section and the gutars stay with seperate sounds on different channels and the riffage is supremely good, and the song really gains pace here. The vocals bring to mind Phil Anselmo.
After this we change to another section which is a breakdown section and sticks with the middle eastern feel before being joined by fast double kick.
The song then changes to bot the guitars on clean playing in a strange harmony with the whole middle eastern feel continuing. The strange harmony disperses and we're left with a relaxing melody. This is accompanied by overdubs from some a synth.
At 7:30 a riff of truely epic proprtions and the synth contiues with the over dubs and then prgoresses into a solo whilst the rhythm changes to fit it in a Dream Theater styel before changing back to the epic riff again.
Again we have another change with a change in the feel of the song as we descend back intot the heavy riffage again and the vocals re-enter. We switch back to the extremely havey riff w/ the screamed vocals to finish.
About a 7/10 I would say. This song had some really great sections, the production was a bit annoying but certianly bearable.

Dream Evil - Children of the Night
0:00 Starts off with typical power metal riffing and solo.
0:30 ARG! I can not stand these clean vocals! Something about them just pisses me off beyond all reason. Background riffing is typical power/classic metal.
1:11 Catchy chorus, and vocals go into falsetto, which I don't mind (Dragonforce got me used to falsetto vox)
1:24 More clean vocals. arg. And that pre-chorus section.
2:05 Chorus! CHILDREN OF THE NIGHT, SEARCHING FOR THE LIGHT, FAR AWAY!
2:20 Then it's a different section with more falsetto
2:30 Decent melodic power metal solo.
3:00 Chorus again
3:15 another different section with more falsetto. Then another solo.
4:00 It all builds up to a cool vocal/lead guitar section. Typical power metal really, just fun to listen too. It fades out too fast though! More of this, less of the crap clean vocals!
overall 6/10

Krisiun - March of the Black Hordes
I'm a fan of Krisiun but haven't heard this particular song so I decided to give it a go. It starts off with a calm intro, the sound of the wind blowing for a little over a minute. Then the music comes in, with some heavy tremolo picking and lots of double bass. This continues on for close to two minutes, with the riffs changing from low to high and back again, but keeping the same pattern. Next part the drums get somewhat more intense and the guitar work picks up a little bit. After maybe 30 seconds or so of this, it goes back to the main riff and double-bass drums until it fades out in the end.
6/10 The fact that it was instrumental caught me off guard, but didn't really diminish that much for me. My main complaint is that there were only two or three main riffs used the entire song, and it got repetitive quickly. Also the lack of a solo, when I know for a fact these guys can shred. Nonetheless, I know for a fact that these guys can do better(and have in the past), so I would definitely listen to more Krisiun.

Deeds of Flesh - Indigienous to the Appalling(Brutal technical death metal)

This song begins with an onslaught that is less than melodic. At about 0:20, and organ comes in for a second and the overall sound improves. But soon the vocals replace them. They are the harsh type often associated with death metal. The band has not changed it's tune, it is still smashing about the same 3 chords.
A brief interlude then occurs, where the band changes to a different style for a short time, but soon, we return to the onslaught. At 2:20ish, the song finally changes significantly. At 2:45, we have some Dimmu Borgir style voice over from old movies, reminds me of Puritania (awesome song). The Organ returns once in a while, as do the vocals, but the song is basically unchanging.
By now the lack of variety is beginning to get on my nerves, but I am impressed that the drummer has kept up that Kick-Snare-Kick-Snare cliche for 5 minutes at a blistering tempo. Still, this is not offsetting the tedium of this very action.
The song's pattern is ABBBABCBBABBC, as far as I can see. So it's far from a turnary piece, and it's also as I said very repetitive. This is not a bad piece, it's just not my sort of thing. I'm more into melodic death myself.
Overall: 2/5
My recommendations:
Carcass - Keep on rotting in the free world (melodic thrash/death)
Kyuss - Demon Cleaner (Pure bred rock, with something extra)
Kreator - Coma of Souls (Thrash Metal with melodic influences)
Kyuss - Whitewater (Metal, but difficult to classify)

HOLY CRAP!
You completely missed the point of my post.
COMA OF SOULS IS PURE THRASH.
There is no death metal in Coma of Souls.
Earlier Kreator, like Pleasure to Kill, is somewhat deathy, but not CoS.
CoS = Thrash.

You have to do tracks you haven't heard, and I've heard those ones except for the Kyuss. And I don't want to do Kyuss if it isn't metal.
Kyuss may not be technically metal, but they're heavy as a really heavy thing.

KREATOR - COMA OF SOULS
0:00 - 0:37... Good start to the song, I really liked the beggining good tempo thrash (the way I like it)
0:38 - 1:05... Tempo picks up a bit, good double-pedal here
1:06 - 1:40... Singer comes in, his voice is different, sounds like he's not talkin breaths in between. There's a horrible end verse here (maybe it's the chorus), just doesnt fit and the vocals completely terrorize it
1:41 - 1:59 ...Back into the beggining beat, so far the best part of this song
2:00 - 2:38 ...Goes back into the verse part where the vocals kill it
2:39 - 3:14 ...Goes into a pretty sweet solo, I quite liked it
3:15 - 3:42 ...The tempo slows down into another vocal ruined section
3:43 - 4:18 (End) ...Goes back into the begging segment of the song (with no vocals....thank god)
Overall I give it 5.5/10
Why?
This song has a lot of potential, just the vocals are insanely brutal, and it loses a lot of its sense throught the bad vocals. Good musicians otherwise, good solo.

Napalm Death - Cursed To Crawl 3:25
wow, something unexpected, I thought they would start grinding from the start to the ending.
A very "soothing" death metal intro riff from the detuned guitars and drums from napalm death which is good to rock out to, than the normal naplam death songs which make you wanna tear up a rabbit with your bare hands. then comes a short break from the bass, which well, is very groovy. And when the vocals come in, at 0:30, it was not really very good, but the build up was great and at 0:46 to 0:47 you can really feel the adrenaline build up, then comes that riff again with vocals, and it softens to the bass part again.
i like the distorted riffs alot and that bass part, but the vocals which are not growled are quite boring, but they can build the song quite well, a great chorus.
Suprised at a ND song turning out like that. heh.
Quite ok, nothing too shocking or out of the ordinary, but quite ok song.
Creativity : Riff was great.
Emotions : Death metal, what do you expect?
Idea/Storyline/potrayal of ideas : No comments here.
Flow : Quite ok, apart from some abrupt parts that slowed down too quick.
Song structure : The building up was good, but there was too much of building up and pulling down for a 3 minute song.
Atmosphere created : Quite a good rock out atmosphere with the distorted riff.
Lyrics : pretty good lyrics, a repitative chorus.
6.5/10

Delian League - Days of Regret (Prog metal)
Okay, throughout this review keep in mind that overall, I am not a fan of Metal music. There are few Metal bands that I care, and many that I cannot stand. I will try to be fair also. But please do not get offended if I dislike the song greatly.
The song opens and gets right to business very quickly. Since the first second hit, the vocalist is heard. His voice isn’t bad, possibly even technically good, but nothing that really excites me. There is a keyboard playing in the back ground with an almost piano sounding sound.
The song picks up, beginning with a guitar with much distortion entering. The drummer and bassist also enter, but a short time after. The drummer performs some interesting double bass role, and occasionally the bassist tries to almost imitate that, causing a not so clean effect. As the band is playing, the keyboard effect changes, and once in awhile the guitarist solos. The solo is kind of predictable and over the top.
He vocalist enters once again. I do appreciate that he does actually sing. While going through the chorus, the vocalist is accompanied by background vocalists. They harmonize quite well, but the vocals are most likely stacked. The guitarist throws some high notes out in the background.
The instruments really cut down all of sudden. The bassist just keeps up with the drummer, and the guitar riff leads this section. The regular sound kicks back in, as does the vocalist. The bassist performs a few pops and maybe slaps, that are definitely unneeded, and just do add a messy sound to the song.
A fake ending now occurs, but they of course enter once again. There is an odd effect in the back ground, possibly keyboard. The drummer (especially) and the rest of the band slightly break down as the seconds go by, and the singer lets out a cheesy laugh. The song soon ends.
Well, nothing really special. But I was expecting worse. 5/10

Grateful Dead - Chian Cat Sunflower (Psychedelic-Rock)
I myself been only 15 I have not been exposed as much to bands like the Grateful Dead but I am trying everyday to expose myself more to be a more accomplished musician. So please realise that my experince with this style of music is limited.
This song starts very nicely. Two guitars, a unnoticable piano, drums and a bass get right into it with a nice quite groove that gets your attention and gets you bopping. The vocalist then comes in about 30 seconds later but I don't think his vocals were that impressive, for the mood of the music he could sound mabye slightly louder and more happy and not so raspy.
He dosen't sing for very long and soon after he is finished the piano becomes alot more noticable and instruments follow up with and nice little fill with the guitar mainly leading it with a small solo that wasn't very amazing but just suited the small vocal break very nicley.
After about 45 seconds the vocals come back with another small talk which lasts about 30 seconds like the other one before it. Again the intruments have another fill which is pretty much the same as the one before only slightly longer. The song then justs stays the same like that with a small vocal verse and a instruments fill which gets longer and longer until after about 5 little vocal parts and fills the song go into a long instrument bridge with all the instruments grooving away with the guitar again leading it all.
The song started off well but after a while the song just got repeditive and predicatable. The guitar solos in the in vocal breaks and bridge sounded extactly like the last which made it even more boring and preditable. I tried to appeciate the instrument fills which I did at first but after the 6th bloody time of the same solo and fill anyone could get their patience tested. I wasn't too sure what the voclaists was talking about but after hearing him twice my orginally happy bopping on my computer chair mood was lost.
A song with alot of potential but just didn't quite hit the mark. 6.5/10

Shadows Fall - Power I and I
0:00 - 0:55... Standard double-pedal beat with a ordinary riff at the beggining. Singer is great for a metalcore band, but half-good overall. Decent guitar here, good mix between the two.
0:56 - 1:49... Chorus is somewhere in this part. There's response chant in it, stuff I don't overall enjoy. Goes back into the verse, and then to the chorus again.
1:50 - 2:20... Solo starts at about 2 minutes here, it's good and fits, but nothing too special, just a common occurance solo.
2:21 - 3:12... back into the verse and chorus here.
3:13 - 3:38 (end)... back into the beat just after the beggining, which closes the song off.
I've never really been with metalcore, but this song I'd say shows a good side of it. Sounds simliar to KSE and all the metalcore out today, but it's got a bit extra something that the others don't. Pretty good guitars, decent drummer, different kind of vox.

7/10

Dragonforce - My Spirit Will Go On
quarter note= 180 ±2 2/9%
0:00-0:06 no sound
0:06-0:26 guitar comes in. he's probably finger-picking the chords he is playing. i like it.
0:26-0:46 metal-core style riffing comes in and sounds like a symphony in the background.
0:46-1:07 rhythm continues w/ what sounds like a dual-lead guitar solo(1). it has a 2nd part without a real break in the middle but still obvious it is foreshadowing the guitar solo(2) that is found a full 3 times in the song.
1:07 silence
1:08-1:28 1st verse vocals come in. traditional metal vocals. onward type vocals. only a little lower pitched. not my favorite. the rhythm still plays of course
1:28-1:38 pre-chorus. same vocals, guitars play more metal-core-ish riffing, with symphony music in the back.
1:38-2:16 this is where the song took a turn for the worse. the vocals became harmonized, worthy of a peter cetera album. i just didn't like the whole scheme of things in the chorus. all though the guitars played well and the symphonic parts sounded great, the whole tone of things and the content and sound of the vocals were just awful. vocals end.
2:16-2:38 guitar solo(2). i'm guessing it's 2 guitars. the solo, out of a 10, i'd give it 10 stars. it wasn't long and drawn out, and went well with the song. it wasn't to fast either. pretty manageable.
2:38-2:58 2nd verse begins. same as above during the 1st verse.
2:58-3:08 pre-chorus
3:08-3:46 chorus. crappy as the first one. vocals end.
3:46-4:08 guitar solo. same as solo at 2:16-2:38.
4:08-4:28 pre-solo material. nice guitar riffing, the orchestral sounds are still good.
4:28-5:02 guitar solo 4(?). it's a fast one. at 4:46 a 2nd guitar comes in. there's not much to compare it to but it's good.
5:02-5:05 not sure about that
5:05-6:22 guitar solo 5(?). really fast guitar solo. good solo and at 5:26 2nd guitar comes end. it seems solos are introduced by one guitar, then harmonized or copied by another guitar at a later time.
6:22-6:42 guitar goes back to rhythm. vocals are going "ohhwo ohhwo oh woh" the whole time. better than nothing but still pretty pathetic. Ironically enough though, i love it.
6:42-7:25 chorus
7:25-7:48 solo(2). actually the 6th solo but for identification purposes i called it 2.
7:48-end. not really a solo. more of a run. probably descending triplets while running up the scale.
