Blue Oyster Cult-Golden Age Of Leather
The intro is that opera like singing. reminds me alot of queen's bohemian rhapsody.its a great way to start off a song. after this it comes in with a nice riff and the song starts to really pick up.
in a little while they change it up a bit and his voices starts to change a tad and gets rather deeper. and another great riff breaks in. accompanied with a nice solo which fits in quite nicely with the song.he continues to stick with the deeper voice which gives the song a bit of an edge.
next the songs tempo changes to a bit slower. but then it changes again to back to the faster pace. i noticed it does this a couple more times as well before the song ends. and it goes back to the opera style singing as heard in the intro. after this the song ends.
8.5/10 i really liked this song especially the singing and guitar work. i may check some more stuff out by these guys.

String Cheese Incident - 100 Years Flood - 3:00
Starts off light and fun, with a burst of a fairly good voice, and quite a few instruments. There's a piano in there, which I like, but other than that I'm almost a minute in and nothing particularly good's happening so far.
Around 1:40 what I think is a violin comes in, and that's pretty good. It doesn't stay long though, and the song moves on to some so-so guitar picking, and then further on to some piano.
And then an electric guitar! Certainly a good variety here. Vocals restart around 3:15. After they finish around 4:15, the song just leads out on lots of instrumental messing around, mostly on guitar and electric guitar, though I noticed the drums as well.
That was alright..I'm slowly getting into this kind of thing, but this is probably the least good of the songs I've heard so far. The vocals, and their lyrics and rhythm, didn't do anything for me, and the instruments were only good, not great.

Spastic Ink - To Counter and Groove in E Minor
This is an interesting listen. The guitar (with an odd tone, that I am not sure whether I like or dislike) starts soloing, and then the bass starts soloing, and it somehow molds together. I like the bass tone, however. Then a cool drum and bass thing starts to happen, with an excellent groove. You will be nodding your head to the beat in no time. And the guitar does all this crazy stuff whenever he wants. Then the guitar starts playing a little riff, which sounds almost reggae-is, but heavily distorted. Then there is more bass and guitar soloing, this time with a drum beat. Then a cool riff up high, which is harmonised with another guitar soon after. Soon after than, a cool bass solo, which is great. It is basically scale runs, but sounds excellent. Then another fast guitar riff, probably the best one in the song. it does some other stuff after this, then does the cool harmonised riff, and then a little shredding thing out. A great song.
9/10.

Yes - Roundabout
I've never actually listened to any Yes. Let's see how it goes.
Based on first listen, this song is tight. Some parts in there I wasn't digging quite as much (the really classic rock sounding bits) but some parts.....They are HOT. The intro and the bit where the lyrics are "...roundabout...". The acoustic guitar parts are really awesome. I also like the keys. They have that 70's spaceage feel. It's like Bowie backing classical guitar. The flutes are another favorite part. That part reminds me of The Who meets The Doors.
As far as musicians go, the bassist strikes me as the best at his game. All of them are exceptional but the bassist is the standout. The singer is decent but not up to par with the restof the band. The guitarist is also very impressive especially when he busts out the classicalness. The drums don't really jump out at me but I thin that has more to do with the mix than anything else.
Difinitive prog right here. I don't know if I'll go out of my way to listen to it as I don't like classic rock and this has a lot of that in it but it is very well done.

Sweet a fast download.
Sloth- Someday
Can't say I've ever heard of them.
Starts with a little guitar ditty then the drums come in picking up pace. Then everything comes in. The song is like a tug of war between the cool heavy parts and the crappy wimpy parts. The singer is also like the rest of the songs torn between sounding cool and whinning. He matches the music. The heavy parts kick in every so often enough to kinda keep my attention. This is one of those songs that if they did the heavy part the whole time it would rock, but the soft part sucks to much for it to be a really good song. Also it seems like the chorus is repeated for the whole song, the lyrics lack any substance. It could have been a good song, but I don't think it is so I won't be looking for anymore of their stuff.
I give the song a 3/10 just for the harder parts of the song.

I've heard of this band before, but not heard anything by them.
As I Lay Dying - Forever - 4:15
Starts off with a little drum intro which is pretty good. Vocals come in pretty soon, and I'm not really impressed by them. They're harsh, which I don't mind, but they sound really half-arsed, and pretty soon there are some awful backing vocals.
The guitars I like though. The riff they're playing isn't exactly crushing, but I like it, and they're pretty much carrying the song for me at the moment. I can pick out the bass, but it's not doing anything I like, and the vocals, as I've said, aren't impressing me.
The drums are another plus point, however. There's some pretty good rolls and fills being played, and it's not dominating the song like many drummers try to, rather just supporting it.
The song goes somewhat mellow around 3:00; all the instruments ease off for some slower guitar playing to take centre place, and the vocals stop. Everything slowly builds back in - I've heard it done better, but it's not bad.
Well, it wasn't bad, just not the kind of thing I'd listen to. I wish they'd get a new vocalist too.

Ben Harper - Like a king
When I was on soulseek I realized that Ben Harper and The innocent criminals were on a festival I went to but I didn't go and see them. :amaze:
The song :
Drum intro, pretty funky.
Guitars and vocals come in, semi-ambient. The vocals aren't very special at the moment. Then the chorus comes, sounds somewhat, the chorus is pretty good and the vocals seem to get better, they're growing on me.
Second chorus get some bass backing vocals, sounds weird, but not bad, I just don't listen much to this kind of music, that's why it sounds strange to me.
The drums get pretty ambient during a little solo part, nothing technical, but very fitting.
I listened twice to the song and I liked it better the second time so I guess this stuff grows on me, it does get a bit repetitive in the end.
But it was a nice song 7/10.

I've heard some Arcturus before (thanks to Per Ardua), and liked it.
Arcturus - Wintry Grey - 2:30
Starts off with some good, mid-paced double bass and fairly melodic guitar, with what sounds like synth over the top. Hymnal-like vocals come in after 5 seconds; they're pretty good, and the guitar is doing some good things in the background (either a subdued solo, or a very long, fairly slow riff).
Vocal change-up at around 0:50 to raspy, black metal vocals. After this section, the drums get very dramatic, with exaggerated cymbal sounds and hollow beats - very Ben Hur.
Hymnal vocals come in again around 1:45, and they've got some good harmonies going when they go high. Whispered vocals and what seem to be bells then begin - the bells seem rather out of place. Spoken word vocals follow, and then more black metal rasping. All of this over almost constant double bass, which I like.
Very dramatic again around 3:40 - reminding me of Ben Hur and other such epics, and there are sounds of a storm, and sloshing water, in the background. Actual music cuts out around 4:29, and thunder ends the song.
I enjoyed that, 8.5/10

I couldn't resist. I'm a pretty big fan of Denis Leary. He's a hilariously cynical guy, and he never fails to bring his wit into his movies and stand-up. But this is the first time I've ever heard any of his entrees into music. And let me tell you, it didn't disappoint.
First of all, this song... is not gonna be about the music, it's the lyrics that are important in a song like this. And they do not fail to be hilariously awesome. It's filled with Leary's clever wit, except now they rhyme! The basic gist of the song is Leary singing to us about all the ways he is, in fact, a pretty big asshole. One example... "Sometimes I park in the handicapped... spaces/ While handicapped people, make handicapped... faces..." It may not sound funny written down, but trust me, hearing it with Leary's intense yelling, it is great!
One note about the music, while most of the song is a standard acoustic riff with drums in the back, the chorus is actually pretty catchy. Their are multiple voices being used, and you will find yourself singing along! Beats any of Adam Sandler's stuff to the ground...
How could I give it any less but a 10/10? Comic Genius!

No idea what to expect.
Tito and Tarantula - After Dark - 2:30
Starts off with burst of clean electric guitar, before going in a mix of a slow, uncomplicated bassline and gently picked guitar. The music builds with the vocals on the verses, the vocals being clean; a decent voice, but nothing special.
Around 1:18, what is either a bridge or a chorus, I don't know yet, begins, with the vocals rising in intensity, along with the guitars. Despite this, it stays a rather mellow song, even through the line about knocking on the devil's door.
From around 2:17, there's a pretty cool, relaxed, electric guitar solo, which I like. Might have a slight wah effect on it, I'm not sure. A more subtle version of the solo carries on in the background of the next verse, while all the instruments build, before the song becomes quieter than it ever has before.
And we go out on a final shout of "after daaaaaaaaaark", over a mini-solo and swelling bass and guitar.
6/10 It was pretty good, but the first half let it down. I liked the slow, relaxed solo though
Would I listen to more of the same band? Maybe.

Ah, no problem. :)
Devin Townsend - Down and Under
Song starts off with an acoustic guitar playing a nice riff, which i like. Along with an acoustic solo which soon fades out.
At about 00:41 a kick drum enters, being hit on every other beat. Which is accompanied by a closed hi-hat beat.
At about 1:22 the drums really come in with a full beat. Along with a distorted guitar playing the same riff, plus some synths along with the music. The song really picks up energy here. I like it alot.
At 2:05, the guitar riff changes to a heavier riff, along with a synth. The vocals are somewhat high, and sung particularly well, though it's hard to make out what he is saying.
At about 2:50 the song returns to the same riff from the beginning of the song but with distortion.
At about 3:00 the song gets quiet again, with half of the acoustic riff and half of the acoustic riff, but distorted added together. The song continues to go full blast on the the distorted riff plus the synths until it ends.
8.5/10

OK, could'nt find the other three so I'm gonna review...
Finntroll - Jaktens Tid
Cymbal intro, distorted guitar chord and some hymnal vocals.
Then the vocalist (typical black metal rasp) comes in singing over a typically heavy riff, with... urrr... kind of upbeat polka synth. Nice fast drumming.
Return of the hymnal vocals for a sort of chorus.
Repeat.
Ah, a break with a better riff and a much more aggressive sound. The vocalist sound much more in place here without the god**** synth. This part is pretty cool.
Nuts, the synth is back and there is a repeat of the verse. The mountain yodell/hymnal vocals have made a return and a couple of distorted chords signal the end.
Overall: Didn't like the synth polka part or the yodell/hymnal vocal parts, but the break without the synth was pretty good. In fact it saved the song.
5/10
Probably wouldn't check out anything else by them, cos I HATED that synth!!!
My suggestions:
Monster Magnet - Space Lord (good time rock n roll, catchy)
Khanate - Skin Coat (Heavy, slow, doom metal)

Monster Magnet - Space Lord
Nice little acoustic and bass drum part. Sounds like this is nu-metal based entirlyt on the intro. The voice is not what I expected. It has something to it. sounds kind of like a blues singer. I really dig when the other guitar comes in and the drums pick up. This is good music for fans of classic rock. All very repetitive but pretty good. Here's the loud part (chorus I suppose) it's grovvin. The after chorus though with the phaser is what I really like. I like how the vocals right after the chorus sound like they're through a tin can. This song has it's fair share of "Yeah!"s but they fit. It's a really driving song. Thus far I haven't heard anything to really impress me but nothing to really turn me off. The chorus guitar part is pretty rockin'. The guitar solo is nothing special. Lot's of effects and like 4 notes but it works. The song has a really cool ending. It's like the song is being flushed down the toilet.
This song was nothign special but not bad. I won't download anymore but I'll keep this. Overall it just didn't have the kind of complexities or innovations I like to hear in my music.

starts with beeping and drums, not bad, joined by a guitar that plays a nice all around riff. then comes the opera. a great voice, singing in russian (i think) a lot of strange techno backing to the voice. god, its not often you hear a voice that clear. an instrumental break, and a voice describing the formation of a baby. more of that godly voice with a heavy drum beat. the guitar is really great, while not challenging or overpowering. drum fill, then a more upbeat section. no lyrics, just drums and synth violin comes in and plays an interesting melody. the violin drops out and is replaced by the opera which finishes the song
great vocals, a lot of stange melody. i wish i couldve understood the lyrics, they sounded like they were from the heart. kinda pink floyd meets orgy meets opera, 8/10

The Who - Substitute
'K, starts up with a nice guitar intro with a conic sense in it. Not after long, the lines "You think we look really good together/You think my shoes are made of leather", and you understand that this song is a one big joke... Well, not exactly, but it's pretty comic anyways. The bass, drums and guitars are going well together, and are serving only as a background to the vocals. Generally, there's not much to say anymore - nice background music, pretty nice bridge with the bass there between the pre-chorus and the chorus, verse, chorus again, end of song. Nice guitar riffs, nice bass and drums fills. That's all for this song.
Although it's really not my type, I enjoyed the song pretty much... :)
I'd give it an 8/10, but just because I listened to Nirvana after this, and it made me wonder how I could listen to this old-school country music... Still, I enjoyed the song pretty much.

Orphaned Land - The Belvoved's Cry
Never heard of this band before, so I don't know what to expect (except Doom Metal). So, here goes...
Wind and waves set the atmosphere. Nice acoustic intro, haunting, chilling effect. Keyboard in the background. Low vocals, slow, dreamy but all the while dark. This is quite a sad song. A sort of hint at hope in the singers voice. Female backing vocals add an even more haunting quality to the song.
It's getting a bit repetitive now, and I'm losing interest waiting for the metal bit. Nice acoustic work though. The male/female vocals have doubled up now. Piano part now. Guitar solo. Nothing new, but it fits the mood of the song. The vocals are singing over the solo now, the piano plays a sad tune and the song fades away. I realise that there is no metal bit.
I think that it's about the loss of a loved one and the person left behind contemplating giving up/suicide (correct me if I'm wrong).
Wouldn't have said it was doom metal, as it seemed to be severly lacking in the metal department. That said, it was a very sad emotional song and was put together well. The acoustic work was very good, the singers voice suitably sultry and a fitting solo to end it.
All in all 8/10. :thumb:

I've avoided these guys so far, though I've heard good things about them. Actually, it was because I'd heard so many good things that I avoided them - one article I read praised them so horribly and completely it made me hate the band.
God Forbid - Antihero - 3:57
Starts off with a fairly impressive thrashy riff..and carries on like that, really. Up to 0:35, it's high-class, heavy metal/thrash goodness, I like it.
At 0:35 however, the vocals come in, and I'm less impressed. They're not especially bad, but they sound too much like those of a lot of other "NWOAHM" bands that have come out recently; Chimaira, Shadow's Fall, etc. They're just not that great, and what's worse, the guitars aren't playing anywhere near as well when the guy is singing.
Still, at 1:04, the vocals stop, and we get another display of reasonably impressive guitar play, with a mini-solo, if only for 10 seconds. A good, longer, instrumental part, with nice solos, from about 2:15 til 3:02. Vocals come back in, and continue right through to the end.
I'd say it was good guitar, reduced in greatness by what struck me as mediocre songwriting, and the other three elements of the band (vocals, bass, drums) being not so good. I didn't detect a hint of death metal, either.
5/10
Would I listen to more of the same band? I'm not in any hurry too, but they're good enough to fill an afternoon if ever I'm stuck for something to listen to.

Cult of luna - Circle
Strummed acoustic chords with another guitar coming in playing a solo of sorts. Gets a bit boring after a while as there seems to be no change in it. Aha! Some heavier louder chords! The song is getting going now, still with a slow, stomping pace to it. Sense of impending doom. Nice chord progression. Break in it with a synth build up then BANG!!! The heavy choirds come in and a lovely charming sounding man begins to scream. This is pretty **** cool. Still has that nice downtrodden feel to it. A sort of pent up release of agression. I like the singer, he's hacked off about something. Cant tell what it is he's saying but I can get the general idea.
I think this is the chorus now, really agressive, cathartic feel to it, like the vocalist is letting go. I believe he means what he says. This is really pretty good and makes me feel good in a strange masochistic kind of way. There is one last distorted chord which fades away to reveal the acopustic intro chords and the solo. The chords too leave and only the sad, sad solo remains.
Overall: Wow! I really liked that. Kind of a soundtrack to the apocalypse if ever there was one. The fact that this song is 8:10 could have meant it dragged on in places, and if I'm honest I think that the intro could have been a bit shorter but hey! What do I know??? When the distortion kicked in the song changed from sad to cathartic - a good song to vent off agression to.
9.5/10, only the length of the intro prevents it from getting the full whack
Would I listen to more of this band? 9.5/10, hmm lets think about this...

Khanate - Skin Coat
Song starts off extremely slow and sludgey with screams. It sounds like the guitarist is just improvising right now.
At about 2:10 the guitar riff changes to a very riff with the drums very little drums in the background.
At about 3:10 the guitars seem to go back to improvisation (atleast that's what it sounds like)
At about 4:10 the song picks up a little speed with a guitar riff that is a little faster along with more consistant drumming.
At about 5:10, there is a clean part which sounds like nothing really, soon the drums enter along with vocals. The vocalist is talking about staying warm in his skin coat. This part is extremely boring.
At 7:21 the clean riff becomes distorted, the drums and the vocals stay the same though.
At 9:05 the song takes a turn to the weird with just drums, they use a swell effect up until the song fades out on this.
This song gets a 2/10. It seems that it was just improvised with the exception of a few measures. The only plus about it was, the vocalist sounded like Golem (from the Lord of the Rings :p )

I'm rather looking forward to hearing this, as I've heard comparisons to Necrophagist, who is/are awesome.
Sinners Bleed - The Ludo Game - 3:57
Kicks off straight away with heavy riffing and fairly quick drumming, and a nice, deep, vocal roar. Good - the vocals don't sound pathetic. The foundations for a decent death metal band are set.
Pretty soon (around 0:15) there's a really good section of riffing, and the drummer throws in impressive fills where appropriate. The vocals come back in around 0:40, and they're not only not pathetic - they're actually pretty good. He can not only do long roars (another of which he does to introduce the first verse), but can carry on the barking, growling vocals for the verse itself.
Around 1:40, I think the riff changes for a few seconds, and I'm pretty sure I made out the bass showing through for a couple of notes.
2:14, a solo starts in one channel, and at 2:24 plays through the other channel. It's not blisteringly fast, but it's impressive. Oh wait, now it's blisteringly fast, and switches from one channel to the other and back once more.
Around 3:10, the vocalist comes back in, and the whole bands goes into full-on brutal mode for the end of the song. Overall, very impressive..but it's not Necrophagist :)

About "If there is a metal side to them" - Hell yes, and if you download the other song I posted here, you'd find it very death-metal-ic, as I mentioned. Bassically, they are one of my favorite bands, and I love them for the combination of death and doom metal they make, and for the fact they are israeli, which makes me feel really proud, being one too. I am very happy you liked them, and I hope some more people would start to know them and listen to them, because from all the bands in the metal industry nowadays, they are ones of the most deserving ones.

Devin Townsend - Stagnant
What the hell? I was expecting something really crushingly heavy, but I get almost a Bon Jovi song! He's got a great voice, but the music is pretty bad. The whole song is focused on the vocals, the background music is pretty poor, there is nothing special anywhere, it is all chord progressions. The only highlight of the whole song, in my opinion, is his great, strong voice, which is probably what the band is all about. I've never heard Strapping Young Lad before, so I don't really know if it is any different. The guitar solo near end is pretty good, but I will stay away from this guy's solo work. If you like Bon Jovi, check it out, I reckon.

Meshuggah - Future Breed Machine
The only song I found, although it was the lowest on my priorities-list... And I should say - My intuition proved to be more trustfull than ever before.
Intro - some machines working or something, then the guitars drop in, although only 2 chords strummed all over, along with some beeping BG noise... Nothing amusing, but not that terrible either... Some kind of bridge where two guitars play... Then the drums drop in. Torture to my ears! It sounds asif the drummer strikes random drums in random order over and over... Then the vocals enters - terrible, incomprehensible screaming... Never heared a better example for the definition "Dick in the throat". Chorus - you can distinguish it from the rest of the song only by the different way of screaming... The guitars and drums are on their own... Asif noone of the band members hears what the others are doing... Still screaming... Then comes some acoustic part that I like, even do like, but goes away immediately... :upset: Then some other guitars, though not as terrible as the rest of the song... But well, as expected, doesn't last too long either... ****ty power chord repeated over and over... As if that's the only thing that the guitarist is able to play, but here, comes in some shredding - ****ty tremolo-picking, again, the same notes all over the place... OOOOH! Again! ****ty screaming, incomprehensible combination of whatever there is in the room - I bet they were beating on the tables and used the mic-stand as one of the drumsticks! It seems the guitarists decided to try out a new picking technique - "Feet Picking" - That is, jumping on the guitar which lies on the floor over and over... Sarcasm aside, The sound is TERRIBLE! The song goes away suddenly, and the relief of Symphony X which was next on my playlist comes to my tortured head! Thank fate it did stand there...
Score: I would give it a -2/10, if not the acoustic part, and the shredding, so 1/10. Would I listen to them again? Maby in hell, being tortured to the rest of my etrnal, miserable stay there... But that is, only through my dead body - You'll need to kill me first!

I don't like Meshuggah either, but I'd agree they're not a 1/10. Especially not FBM.
I wanted to do that Axxis song, but couldn't find it anywhere. Anyway, I haven't heard any Dark Funeral before.
Dark Funeral - The Arrival of Satan's Empire - 4:22
Starts off with some strangely toned guitar, and a few drum blasts, before a decently long scream.
The vocals are pretty much full on, I like them, the guy seems to be putting his all into them. The drumming is fairly fast, but nothing fancy. I like the main riff of the song, but again it's nothing spectacular.
At around 2:45 (like, 15 seconds), the guys vocals stop for a while, and we can concentrate on the music a little bit, but nothing changes, which is strange. There's a very short space with some impressive drum fills at the very end, before the songs comes to to a sudden stop.
All in all, a decent black metal song. Absolutely no variation in the music, which was a bit annoying, but the vocals were somewhat above average.
6.5/10 Nothing particularly wrong with it, except that it seems to fit very well into the "yes yes, very good, but what's the ****ing point?"-niche.
Would I listen to more of the same band? Not at the top of my list, but maybe in the future.

Click Add New User, enter the name of the user you want to add (Kanadarius, in this case), and Kanadarius should appear in the blank box.
If I'm online (blue thing next to my name instead of red thing), right click the name and select Browse Files. Then you can find any song you like from my files and double click it to download.
Otherwise, click File Search from amongst those tabs at the top, and a new window called File Search should appear. Search for whatever you like in there, and press enter/click search. Janes Addiction - Ocean Size
Starts off with an acoustic intro, something like a minor scale sorta thing. A semi-scream, and the guitar comes in. A cool riff. Oh my god, whats wrong with this guys voice? Its like Courtney love had a sex change. The drumming is very normal, lots of cymbals, nothing exciting. The guitar riff is good though. Alot of the same stuff with some variations. Stops a bit for an acoustic part. back agin to the electric. then the solo. Which is cool.... but again, nothing really fancy. My god, the vocals put me off. Its a very 'normal' rock song, if you know what i mean. Nothing fancy. The end is cool, very upbeat, the guitar soloing in the background sounds really really, and the voice sounds good here because of the style the music is playing to. I like the end, a lot, it really does the song good.

Tool - Stink Fist
As my avatar suggests I kinda like Tool, so I'm not sure if I should really do this one, but I've never checked out anything other than their work on Lateralus. (gasp!). So here's to finding out whether this is as good...
Cool intro, is it a guitar? I'm not sure. Some feedback now and the first chords. Has a nice groove. Maynards voice is quite low in the mix, but the passion he has shows through. The song becomes louder (pre-chorus) and then the chorus. It shifts time signiture in one of the bars (I think, one of the bars sounds a bit different). Cool. I like the riff a lot. It's quite a catchy song. Another chorus and a bass interlude with some whiote noise wrenched from the guitar. Now it's just bass and tom drums, sounds good. The guitar comes in playing a solo of sorts (Tool arent known for conventional solos!). Maynard returns for a jubilant part at around the four minute mark. The more gritty side to maynards voice is bought into play in a heavier part featuring a lot of rakes on the guitar. One more chorus and it's now the outro: bass and drums form a stable rhythm for the guitar to create strange noises over. The song then fades out.
Overall: Very good, not a part I didn't enjoy and it lived up to my expectations set by Lateralus. It sounded very much like the band but there were a couple of differences which made it fresh.
10/10

The Dillinger Escape Plan - Pig Latin
I've heard some DEP and I loved it usually, but I haven't heard this song, oughta be interesting with patton on vocals.
Has a clean intro, I was expecting to be dropped in grindcore madness straight away. But I'm not complaining, this intro is really good, quite psychedelic.
I'm expecting it to break out any second now, meanwhile I'm loving this intro, it has some really cool effects.
Patton on vocals now, very nice, I'm feeling the build up to the climax now, ah, the distortion kicks in, quite funky, Patton does some tricks with his voice.
It's getting a bit heavier.
Now it breaks down, with some beeping.
Some semi hymnal interlude, good stuff. Reminds me of the sea for some reason.
Goes back to the intro and then to another riff.
Then it ends VERY abruptly, I had to check with someone else, 'cause I thought I had an incomplete version or something.
Anyway, weird song, great song.

Paw - Jessie - 6:51
Starts off with drums, fairly fast paced, which I wasn't expecting. Then a kinda choppy riff comes in, which is pretty good.
The vocals come in, and they do sound like grunge. I don't like them, but I can tolerate them, and to be fair I basically knew this is what they would be like. The song seems to be about a dog called Jessie.
It's got a pretty regular structure; verse, chorus, verse, chorus, etc. Bridge too.
1:54 or so - I like this bit. The guitar takes on a different tone, and the whole thing sounds cleaner, kinda mournful. The distorted riff starts up again, but playing at the same time as this newer, cleaner guitar, which sounds pretty good.
The drums speed up a lot towards the end, and a whining guitar tone rises in the background. I thought it was maybe going to solo, but it didn't. Never mind though, I liked that little fast bit at the end anyway.
Well, I enjoyed that about as much as I enjoy any grunge, especially the clean guitar bits. Didn't like the vocals, though.

Finally, someone posts something i dont know:
Farmakon - Loosely of Amoebas
Semi-thrashy opening riff. Vocals sound very very similar to Mikael from Opeth, not bad at all. After this a quick instrumental bridge and back into the verse. Insert bridge again, with tremolo arm dive. After that, a very quick punky sounding riff comes in, then TOTAL OPETH WORSHIP.
This is where the song gets really interesting, it quickily changed from like Kreator to Opeth in a matter of seconds. The vocals seem to have more of a range than Mikael (especially with the falsetto).
There is a groove acoustic/bass part shortly thereafter, followed by what only is remniscient of jazzy porn music, then a guitar solo which is in a not very commonly used scale, so it sounds quite different.
The original verse comes back in after this, and although in theory the transition shouldnt work, but it does very well. Short bridge follows again, with verse following in suit.
Slows down to jazzy part again for like one measure. The song breaks down switching between distorted and clean guitars with what sounds like chorus on them.
After that is done, a weird noise part is inserted for about 4 measures, and then a VERY opeth sounding lead/solo comes in.
Another faltsetto vocal line comes in again, with the same main rhythm behind it as before, but with a lead thrown in there on top of it also. The song then abruptly stops.
Overall synopsis: These guys apparently want to be a slightly faster opeth it seems, and they do it very well. Now what would I rate a song like this?
I would rate it:
10/10 - Simply amazing.
I reccomend now in turn:
Vintersorg - A Sphere in a Sphere (to infinity) [Prog with black metal elements at times, complete lyrical focus is astrophysics]

Quo Vadis - On the shores of Ithaca
Starts off with some palm muted chords along with some drum fills, soon followed by a harmony lead part. Like it's building up to something.
00:33 the vocals come in along with a guitar riff that fits perfectly along with an epic (i'm assuming that they are using Ithaca from the epic 'The Odyssey' but what do i know) The guitar work is very nice here, along with harmony parts. The vocals are top notch, but the drumming is quite good. The double bass work is excellent.
01:35 the mood changes to speed melodic death, again the guitar work is top notch. Soon in comes a solo, the solo is more a harmony fill but it fits perfectly in.
02:19 the music returns to the epic sounding riff from before. I love this part, especially when the vocals come in and the drummer kicks it up a notch.
03:16 an arpeggio riff comes in, it's played very well shifting in and out of minor and major arpeggios along with class drums and vocals.
04:16 the song slows down for a harmonized solo, soon in comes double bass oriented drums along with this harmony part, really sounds excellent together. Soon enough the vocals come in and the music picks up with a solo.
05:07 the solo picks up speed along with odd drumming, that eventually becomes a constant with the solo still blaring.
05:58 After a massive drum fill the harmonized lead part comes back in, with spoken vocals. The song ends with this fading out, then an abrupt stop.
This song gets 10/10 I loved it, it was incredibely well put together, every piece of that music was top notch. I would (will) look into an album by these guys, they know what they are doing.

Dissection - Where dead Angels lie
Heard a few songs by them before, great stuff
Intro is acoustic, evil sounding,
00:18 - drums come in, then another guitar, they fit together nicely,
this continues until
01:12 - first verse comes in, with another riff, then a break
01:50 - next verse, broken up by lead guitar, very effective
03:20 - nice little solo, i love it,
3:45 - Bridge, softer with whispering vocals
this riff continues with a nice scream
04:47 - next verse, with the lead from the 2nd verse underneath, then another guitar plays
05:13 - nice little break
05:20 - before back into the main riff
song fades out quickly
This was an interesting song, altho it couldve varied a bit more, great band, i will def be checking out more of their stuff, 9/10

Nile - Ramses Bringer of War
Starts with a cool bassy drum beat, then the trumpets come in, like the ones in 'Unas Slayer of the Gods' (The only other Nile song I've heard). There are some cool harmonies and call and response things going on in the intro. Then the guitars, which are quite heavy, come in, and drums come in as well. Then a big scream comes in, and the death metal starts. Distinct death sound, double kicks, heavy guitars. The screams are very good, and so are the guitars, and the drummer is a freak. He just goes nuts during his fills. I don't like the drums in the 'verses' esp. the bass drum, he tries a fast, black metal sort of beat, which I don't like. It's too intrusive - the double kick would of been far better. The solo is excellent, a good shredding solo, it fits the music well. The overall groove is great: impossible not to nod your head to. Again, the bass drum seems out of place to me, just use the double kick. The drummer's blasts towards the end of the song are incredible. Another solo, over evil growls, I like it. I also like the frenetic ending. I ordered this CD a while ago, I wish it would hurry the hell up and get to me.
8/10 I would give it a higher score, but the drums in parts didn't flow.

I was determined to do this one, as I'll be ordering Elvenefris in a day or so. This is the opening track, right?
Lykathea Aflame - Land Where Sympathy is Air - 5:50
Starts off sounding very Eastern, which carries on despite the heavy drumming and the roar which comes in at 0:06. It's alternating between the Eastern sound, and a more traditional riff, with quick bursts of drumming in between.
1:05, I think I can hear a smaller roar again. 1:20 or so, the vocals come in properly; they're more or less indistinguishable (in terms of making out what he's saying), but they fit the music, so all is well. Triumphant sounding clean leads around 1:50-onwards, and a really cool mini-bridge type part at about 2:06.
Some spoken word vocals shortly after that, and an altogether calmer sound, despite the constant and impressive drumming in the background. And then, at 2:44, we're back into the heavy riffing and growled vocals.
Short verses now, with short, guitar-oriented bridges in between. Back to the light, Eastern sound of the beginning was around 4:04, followed by switching between verse and instrumental breaks.
After some spoken word around 5:11, the song goes out on a change of riff, changing to a thrashy riff for about ten seconds before it ends at 5:46 or so.
9/10 I hope the rest of the album's this good.
Would I listen to more of the same band? Yup. Hopefully soon.

Farmakon - Loosely of Amoebas
Songs starts off fast, typical Gothenburg type of stuff. Nothing really special here, the guitars are a bit above averages, that's about it.
0:49 A huge dive bomb that leads into a thrashy riff.
01:06 the music gets a little 'softer' along with clean vocals and a lead solo that accompanies the clean vocals. I like this part alot.
At about 01:35 the music stops, it's just clean vocals and drums, the vocals are very hard to hear. Then in comes some progressive/jazz/funk riff out of seemingly nowhere. Along with an odd jazz solo (guitar).
At 2:22 the song returns to the opening riff, this time along with vocals from the start.
At 3:06 more jazz along with Distortion guitar interludes. I like this part alot.
At 3:45, there is a solo with just chords behind it. The chords actually remind me of some catchy metalcore song. Soon clean vocals come in along with the guitar solo still in the background.
I give this song a 7/10. I liked the jazz/clean parts alot, but i didn't much like that opening riff. It felt like there was just something missing, i would look for more stuff by them though.

Never heard or heard of the band before, except for Per Ardua's frequent mentioning of them.
Vintersorg - Om Regnbågen Materialiserades - 5:00
Starts off with a pretty cool, slow intro, plenty of crashing cymbals. Regular drum beat comes in around 0:23.
0:40 or so - vocals come in, clean and male. Sounds like he's speaking a language that I don't, but he's pretty good.
A chorus maybe, at abour 1:30. The instruments are definitely playing slightly differently anyway. Some backing vocals at about 1:55; I like the main riff of this song.
Around 2:10, there's a calmer mid-section; prettily picked guitar, very nice. Vocals come in, slightly more of a singing voice than before. The language sounds like Polish, though I can only guess that because I know some Polish people.
3:25, the calmer section finishes properly, and there's some multiple person, almost chanted vocals, followed by a very nice solo (high pitched and dramatic).
The calmer section vocals and guitar picking return after this, and this is rather unexpectedly what the song finishes on. Wasn't expecting that, but it was a decent ending.
8.5/10 I liked the guys voice in particular.
Would I listen to more of the same band? Yup.

Axis of Perdition - Ruined Nation Awakens
Starts off with a clip from the Matrix. 'It was us that scorched the sky'
This is followed by blasting guitars along with drums, and a nice scream.
00:51 is when i believe the verse starts, a guitar riff that is sort of drowned out by the vocals and the extremely loud drums.
At about 1:15 the vocalist puts a weird effect on his voice, i dig it.
At about 1:45 there is a short solo, followed by a slower riff with screams over it.
This slow riff does not last long as it is bombarded by speed, with drums full of crashes and guitars.
2:32 the vocalist puts the weird swell effect on his voice again, i'm thinking this part is the chorus. This is followed by the short solo.
At 3:09 the music stops and a clip comes in (i don't know what the clip is from) it is extremely short. The music stays slow for a while.
At about 3:30 the music becomes a bit more industrial, with screams and blaring double bass.
At 3:56 another clip, I don't know what this clip is from but it fits perfectly with the music. "I'm getting strange readings in here."
I give this song a 7/10. It was utter chaos, but i enjoyed it. The vocals were good, the guitar riffs were good, but the drums were a little loud. I would check out more songs by Axis of Perdition

Arcturus - Alone
Starts out epic kind of, but 5 seconds in everything explodes, running double bass pedal everything
15 seconds in the drummer starts to do a really really fast punk riff, but it's so fast it's not punk
25 seconds in the vocals come in, there not bad, reminds me of a circus for some reason:confused: Everything is more soft now.
Around 55 seconds in a piano I think starts to play and it makes the overall sound softer.
1:18 the guitars start going fast again along with the drumming, the drummmer is continuely gunning on his double.
2:08 a little solo comes in for the guitar, it's nifty, the lyrics are a little softer. Its a good solo as I listen to it more.
2:53 everything seems to quiet down except for the bass guitar and drums and you can hear the electric in the backround. This reminds for a sort of "build up" type tune
The song continues like it did before, and it just ends with the singer saying a phrase
It is 4:44 long
I would give a 6/10 and I probably won't be downloading more songs from them, I didn't like the vocals all that much

Underoath - When the Sun Sleeps
Starts off with calm guitars and some weird spacy effect in the background. Drums enter, I'm liking this a lot. Violins too. Awesome intro.
The guy starts screaming and singing, like a little screaming and then a little singing. I love his singing voice, but I'm not too big of a fan of the screaming. Distorted riff, while the chorus comes in. The guy is a really talented singer, if he would just lay off the screaming.
New riff, pretty good, melodic and slow. The guitars sound really good, they mix between clean and distorted and form a cool melody. The violins in the background really makes the song stand out.
Chorus again, still good. The vocalist holds a tone for a pretty long time while the song calms down. This part is very cool, because now he's just singing with drums and muted guitars in the background. Here we come towards a climax, the guitars are building up and we enter the chorus yet again.
He sings a duet with himself with screaming and regular vocals which I found pretty cool. The screaming reminds me of early In Flames, like Lunar Strain. I'm getting kinda used to it now. We go towards the end which fades out with violins and guitar.
Very good song, much better then I expected. I will probably look out for more of their songs because they have a very talented vocalist

Vehemence - Darkness is Comfort - 3:35
Starts straight off with a technical death metal riff, and pretty cool barked vocals, which soon switch to much deeper, Nile-esque growls. Very nice so far. The vocals switch from one to the other in what I assume are the verses.
Riff changes around 0:55 for what might be a bridge or a chorus. Despite being fairly low and growled, the vocals are surprisingly well-articulated, and I can make out a suprising number of words. The drumming is good as well, pretty much constant double bass, and some great rolls.
Vocals stop around 2:20 for a while, but nothing spectacular happens musically. The vocals are almost black metal-ish around 2:48, very high, almost screeched, though still mixed with that lower growl. Oh, and it just fades out there.
Well it was all very well and good, but overall it was disappointing. There was no solo, or even an impressive change of riff or rhythm to give the song a point. Solid, but not spectacular. I liked the drumming though.

Winds - What is Beauty?
Like Bartender said, loads of strings, violins and cellos make up the intro, very beautiful stuff. Some spoken words now, after that, the metal comes in, pretty slow, with good double bass, and some excellent guitar soloing, do I hear sweep picking in there? Totally awesome. Some power metally vocals come in, but aren't as high as they usually are. A cool piano fill bit, with some strings. I like the guitars, nice and heavy. There is a slow bit now, a guy with a scratchy voice over melancholy violins. Then a tricky beat, over more vocals. After that, more excellent things being done on the guitar, kind of soloish, but not really. After more vocals, another solo, which is again excellent. A great song. Who's the guitarist? He is a freak.

Then the riff changes at 55 seconds to a heavier "headbanging" riff. After that the vocals come in. Their not bad and I can stand the screaming.
1:18 in the drummer starts running on his double bass pedal to give the song overall better quality IMO.
It goes back into the main riff with the vocalist still screaming, which isn't bad.
1:50 the drummer once again pounds on his double and guitar is smoother and I like the pitch of his guitar.
1:58 the vocalist stops and it is just the instruments playing, this continues for a while.
2:13 a guitar solo comes out, it's pretty good, it's not that long either
Everything soon goes back to the main riff with the vocalist
Then at the end of the song, everything stops and there is a few seconds of silence
This is a solid song so 7/10, and I will probably check out more songs from this artist. They have potential. One of those songs you just have to hear.

Coal Chamber - Clocks
Cool sound for the intro
A scream comes in. Heavily distorted. The guitars are coming in now. It's pretty simple but not bad. I wish the singer would take the distortion off. The guitar riff beasically sucks. It is a really driving song. There's kind of a chorus where it all slows down a little. it's not bad. After that it speeds up. I like this part. Reminds me of Tool... sort of. I like the clicking echo-ey sound in the backround.
The vocals remind me of Slipknot now. Actually, the whole song reminds me of Slipknot.
The ending is awesome with the voice recording.
The guitarist seemed to be just a second drummer most of the time.
It was overall pretty bland. Nothing really jumped out except for the sample at the end and the sound in the begninning. I would've dropped this into nu-metal instead of grungy, heavy metal.

Chevelle - The Red
Starts with a slow riff, after a while the vocals enter, nothing special, vocals you would hear thirteen times in a dozen. The riff is not too bad.
Now there's the chorus, simple guitar and slightly whiny vocals, the after chorus is pretty good, but it's short.
Then the verse again. Chorus. It's all not that bad, but it's nothing special either.
Meh, I can't really say a lot more about this song.
It might grow on me, it wasn't bad, but it didn't amaze me either. 6/10

Liquido - Narcotic
Never heard of these guys...
Starts off with an ambient feel to it, reminds me of Coldplay a bit. Then in comes a synth riff, seemingly straight from an 80's song.
00:38 the guitars come in just playing guitars behind the synth riff. I'm actually enjoying this part.
Around 1:00 the guitar stops, there is just ambient synths and a smooth bassline. Along with vocals, they sound like they are whispered but they are sung.
1:34 the guitars and synths come back in, with vocals this time. I'm digging this so far.
Then back to the smooth bassline and ambient synths + vocals, about halfway through the male vocals are accompanied by female vocals for a line.
Once again back to guitar, synth, vocal riff (chorus)
Then a new riff, guitar chords with vocals and occaisional pause for vocals, alone.
This leads back into the chorus, the drums pick up a little here (more snare action) and on this, the song fades out.
I give this an 8/10. For a 'metal-head' i enjoyed that. Good stuff.

Blast beats are when you hit the snare and the hi-hat or the ride symbal at the same time at a high BPM. Most Death metal bands use this. In 'Alone' HellHammer does this for a short time near the beginning of the song.
By the way, my soulseek is Per Ardua Ad Astra. Add me, i've added you.

Not always, some blasts are sometimes done with the two hands being on different beats (i.e. ride snare ride snare ride snare ride snare). The easiest way to describe a blast is all 16th notes with just about every limb (or if they are derek roddy, 32nd notes)

Death - Spirit Crusher
Sorry about the insanely long time it took to download this. It sucks, but oh well.
The song starts with a very cool cymbal thing on the drums, and some bass notes. It's all in a weird time signature, 15/8 I think. Either way, it's very cool. Then some light growls, still brutal sounding, but light in terms of bands like Cryptopsy, Cannibal Corpse, etc. The growls are over a slow, but very grooving riff, in another odd time signature. The next bit is a slightly faster bit, with some fast picking, double bass, and guitar squeals. At about 1:10, it gets very fast for a few seconds, then goes to another phrase, this is about the 6th in about 1:30. This one is the slowest one yet, with a nice scream by Chuck. It goes back to the intro bit now, but with more technical drums, and guitars come in as well. The next bit is fast too, with nice double bass, and cool guitar. After that, we get a solo, not a great one, but not a bad one either. It really doesn't flow as well as I like it. Then a cool riff over some tom rolls, and a tapping solo, which I like. Then another slow, groovy line, impossible not to nod your head to. Another verse (I think!) and I begin to think what a hard song this is to review, so I'm going to stop here (4:20), and declare this one of the best songs ever.
10/10. With all the riffs, they could have made 5 more songs. Awesome, awesome stuff.

I've not heard any Coroner, but I've been wanting to hear them. This song has been the first I've tried to get for many of manuscriptreplica's FLs, I've just never managed to til now.
Coroner - Suicide Command - 5:51
Starts off with a really cool riff, and then drums come in along with a nice, fast bassline. Might have been a solo worked in there, I'm not sure; that's definitely one there though, around 0:30. This is kicking *** so far.
About 0:48, it goes into proper thrash mode, with a more conventional thrashy riff, and it's just generally faster. Vocals come in around 1:00 for a short verse. Some chanting chorus type thing around 1:30, before another really fast, and long, solo, which ends around 2:10.
After that, the riff changes; it's slower, and there's more variation between it's highest and lowest points, I like it. Back to thrashy goodness after that, for another chorus, then a quick change to another different riff, before going back to the traditional thrash of the verse/chorus.
Ends with a prolonged slowing down, before a final burst of speed to finish on.
9/10, twas excellent. I know I didn't mention it much (was too wrapped up writing about the riffs), but the bass was really impressive too.
Would I listen to more of the same band? Yup.

Finally, here it is:
Pestilence - Twisted Truth
It starts with a slow riff, then a little slide in the other speaker. I don't like the drums, they are kind of out of time. The growls are very Sepultura like, which is good. Then the double kick comes in, this is great. Still is going pretty slow, unfortunately. A guitar solo is on now, pretty good, but not the best. Similar to the start now, no double kick, and the growls. The double kick comes in again, sounds awesome. After this, there is kind of a technical thing going on, though not that hard to keep up with. Another solo, better this time. He uses some nice techniques in this one. Then back to the verse. Again the double kick. They are pretty loud in the mix, almost drowning out the vocals. Back to the semi-technical thing again, this time with double kicks. Then it ends.
5/10. Pretty repetitive, and I was waiting the whole song for it to speed up, which it did not. A big anti-climax. Oh well.
