Well my external hard drive with all my music crashed for the 2nd time this summer. So I can't try that now. Large music collections are a real pain in the *** when you lose them. Hopefully, I'll get most of it back today though, and then I can upload some shows. I'm thinking maybe 2/18/71, 2/14/68 and 11/6/77. Or maybe one of the Ark shows from 4/69. Those are all terrific shows.

Yeah I lost 20,000 songs. It's rough. I am managing to get most of them back pretty easily though since my hard drive still works well enough to back up some of my files on another computer.

Gov't Mule
Jim Jones
Jim Jones And The Koolaid Kids
The Allman Brothers Band

I second all the above. Gonna add Elvin Bishop. He's actually got Gov't Mule featured on his new album.

Might As Well is a really awesome song that doesn't get nearly enough credit. Just putting it out there. It's a really great opener. DSO opened with it when I saw them and I haven't been able to get it out of my head since.
I've been streaming this show this afternoon- http://www.archive.org/details/gd77-10-29.sbd.kempa.280.sbeok.shnf
Awesome Might As Well opener, Estimated > Eyes... good stuff.
This is just a killer show, through and through. The Let it Grow and Jack Staw are smokin' as well.
Freedom Hall 6/18/74 may very well be the best show ever. The second set jam is phenomenal. LiG goes waaaaay deep, into the Other One....words cannot describe these sections. You have to hear this as soon as possible. This is truly the band beyond description. They even encore with Dew...that should tell you something.

I don't have that Freedom Hall show, I'll have to download it now. I do have the Iowa show from 2 nights before though, great show. The Eyes Of The World is one of the best ever.

I saw Umphrey's + Gov't Mule last night, it was a pretty good show. I thought Umphrey's was headlining though, so when they came out first that was a bummer. Good set though, Search 4, Wappy Sprayberry > Higgins (incredible), The Bottom Half > Glory > The Bottom Half, Divisions > Pipeline > Resultion > Drums > Divisons > Jajunk.
As for Gov't Mule, I didn't really enjoy them that much. They played a few covers (Dear Prudence, War Pigs, For What it's Worth, Morning Dew, some other Doors song) that were awesome, but overall not to great. I'm just not a fan of their really really slow numbers that just drag on, and the drum segment was super boring. Some tight jams, but meh.

Drums at a Mule show is painful. Matt Abts can play but can't solo. That's my view on it.
So what does everyone think about the recent Dead rumors?

I would consider dropping out of college for a spring tour. Not really, but if it was up to me...
What does everyone think the lineup would be? It's really pretty hard to make a guess besides the main four since it changes so much.

God I would love to see a show at RR.
My friend and I are currently in the process of founding the Michigan Live Music Association (MLMA) at our college. The group is simply for going with large groups of people to see shows, as well as pre- and post- parties and discussions. Our big bust out will be for EOTO on Oct. 9. A group of us are also planning right now to go see Panic's three night run in Milwaukee this November, which would be phenomenal. It's a little bit of a stretch but we know someone who lives there and Panic is Godly.

Does anyone here like My Morning Jacket? I wouldn't call them a jamband but they kinda get lumped in with them. I just started listening to them and I'm really impressed. I think I'll go see them when they're here in a couple weeks even though it's pretty pricey. I'd recommend checking them out.

The Dead and now Phish reuniting. This summer has lots of potential.
Lunch
10-02-2008, 12:27 PM
Those Hampton shows are going to be madness. If they both tour, the Phish tour will most likely attract all the low life jam scene druggies that took over the Dead tour in the 90's and then moved on to Phish when Jerry died. That way the Dead shows will be nothing be the real heads. Hopefully I catch them both though.
UmphreysHead
10-02-2008, 09:46 PM
TBH I'd see Phish over The Dead now. It won't come down to that so I'm not worried, but if it was Phish vs. Dead 2009, I take Phish.
id go see the dead
but that's just me..and ive never listened to them before :P
robo2448
10-03-2008, 01:22 PM
I plan on seeing both, there's no way the 2 of them would be in the same place at the same time. But if I had to choose, it would undoubtedly be the Dead. To be honest, I wouldn't be shocked if Phish put on the better show musically, but their music never really meant much to me, whereas the Dead changed my life.

Workingman's Dead sounds so damn good on vinyl. I also have Europe '72, In The Dark and Kingfish by Bob Weir and Kingfish which are all great as well. I really need American Beauty on vinyl and a few others. But nothing sounds as good as the Dead on vinyl.

This is so sick. I bet they'll announce a spring tour in early January.
So I botched going to Lotus last night (it was a two hour drive and there were other complications) and I didn't buy a ticket for Widespread in Milwaukee on 11/7, which some of my friends are going to, and is now sold out. I'm still gonna go to Milwaukee with them though and probably scope out the WSP lot scene and try to find a ticket but we'll see. Though I caught EOTO and Toubab Krewe earlier this month, locally, and both were sick shows.
Robo, you going to any of the Phil-a-thon shows at the Nokia? Anyone else get any upcoming shows? NYE plans? I want to go to DSO in Baltimore but tickets are like $50 which is ridiculous.
robo2448
10-27-2008, 05:49 PM
I'm not going to any of the Nokia Phil shows. It sucks but I'm at school. I might be going to San Francisco for NYE with Phil and Ratdog but I don't know, it's kind of tricky to pull off.
I got a few upcoming shows. Bob Dylan on Election Day. Cornmeal that Friday. Maybe 2 nights of Mule in November. I'll try to catch STS9 because Lunch always talks about how good they are. But I have to admit that I did miss Lotus last week. Dylan's the only one I have tickets for but hopefully I'll hit them all up.

Lotus live is pretty ****ing cool
robo2448
10-28-2008, 12:25 AM
Yeah I probably should've gone. The problem with not owning a car is that concert venues that take 15 minutes to drive to take an hour by bus. And then the buses stop running pretty early during the week (Lotus was a Wednesday night) so you usually end up having to take a cab back which gets pricey. I paid $30 for YMSB but then had to pay $20 for a cab so it ended up costing a poopload. It really stops me from going to as many shows as I want to.
Lunch
10-30-2008, 11:00 AM
Yea that was tough on me last year. Fortunately this year more of my friends have cars. You should definitely catch STS9 if they are going to be anywhere around you, and Cornmeal is probably going to be a great show. I might see Mule in a few weeks too but I don't know, they're kind of boring.

Man, I think that show is my favorite Dead show ever. Seriously. The Half Step opener is the best I've ever heard (although 1977-11-06 Binghamton is close), the Music Never Stopped is great, Help>Slip>Franklin's is the best I've ever heard. And there is no better way to close a show than Estimated > St. Stephen > Not Fade Away > Drums > St. Stephen > Terrapin > Sugar Mags. May of '77 is truly spectacular, but I think this one tops all those. Maybe something from summer '73 is up there, but this is a really incredible show.
This cooks- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fg0kX_7HUWw&feature=related
I've never really liked ALO that much but whenever I hear Dan Lebowitz play with another group I'm always really impressed. Same with Steve Adams.

Just discovered this thread, and a new reason to start posting somewhat consistently on these forums after being at sputnik for a while.
Anyway, I've really been getting into more jambands recently. I always loved the Grateful Dead and Phish, but have recently discovered (just in time for Chritsmas no less!) Leftover Salmon, String Cheese Incident, Steve Kimock Band, Jazz Mandolin Project, Assembly of Dust, Umphrey's Mcgee, etc. I just went to my library and found some Yonder Mountain String band CDs, which was a nice treat. So yeah, this is kind of a bump, and introduction into the thread, which itself can hopefully stay more active than it has been.

^Welcome
I saw DSO last night, they did 7/7/78 at Red Rocks. It was sweet. Tonight they're doing 7/8/78 (which is quite a bit better imo) but my parents won't let me go. The setlist for that show is so nuts too! I wish I could see it. But last night was sweet.
Setlist for last night (7/7/78):
Set 1:
Jack Straw
Candyman
Me & My Uncle->
Big River
Friend Of The Devil
Cassidy
Tennessee Jed
Passenger
Peggy-O
The Music Never Stopped
Set 2:
Cold Rain & Snow
Beat It On Down The Line
Scarlet Begonias->
Fire On The Mountain
Dancin' In The Streets->
Drums->
Not Fade Away->
Nobody's Fault But Mine->
Not Fade Away->
Black Peter->
Around & Around
Encore:
U.S. Blues
Johnny B. Goode
Filler:
How Sweet It Is
Donna was in the house and with them for a number of songs. But unfortunately not the whole show. Specifically, on The Music Never Stopped and Scarlet Begonias, I was wondering why Donna was dancing on the side of the stage instead of singing with them. Lisa was there and she does the Donna thing pretty well I guess, but I'd rather hear Donna. Musically, Dark Star Orchestra was just outstanding. The Jack Straw started off pretty average but really caught on fire during the solo. The first set in general was very hot, maybe better than the 2nd. Peggy O was beautiful and Music Never Stopped was nuts. Cassidy and Passenger too... great versions.
Set 2 had a crazy Scarlet Fire. The rest was kind of up and down. Johnny B Goode sounded a little repetitive and boring after Around and Around and US Blues. Drums was killer with a bunch of roadies and other people coming out and forming a drum circle. Space looked super cool with just Rob Barroco (piano) and John (fake Jerry) jamming alone, but the crowd was so talkative you could barely hear. Not a very good crowd, but we met a couple super cool older heads and the music was nuts.

I actually like Donna to be honest. I think she has a good voice (although often out of tune) and sometimes, her voice really works with the music. Besides Theresa Williams (Larry Campbell's wife, sings with Phil now) I like Donna more than any of the other girl singers dead bands have tried like lisa in DSO and Joan Osbourne with Phil a couple years ago. And Donna just has an amazing stage presence. She's just so happy to be on stage and seems so genuine that I really enjoyed seeing her with DSO and wish she sang on almost every song instead of about half of them which she did.

Listening to the some of the shows String Cheese did at their run at the Warfield in March of 01. Some of this is really becoming my favorite String Cheese material.
And just as a sidenote, since all the Grateful Dead soundboards got taken off the archive, is there any other site that has Dead sounboards up for download? I have many of the classic shows, its just most of them are AUD and I'd rather have the better soundboard quality. If anyone has a source, could they please drop a link.

Saw Lotus for the first time back in October and was blown away. They put on such a great show and played every song I wanted to hear which is always a plus at concerts. Can't wait to seem them again.
I would also highly recommend seeing STS9 next chance you get. I don't know how into them you are but their live performances are practically unbeatable if their playing is on and the energy is there. The atmosphere at an STS9 is really like non other. Most recently saw them up in Milwaukee and had a blast.

Black Crowes next week, possibly. If I finish all my papers/exams, then I'll be there. If I don't, I might be there anyways.

I'm gonna see umphrey's mcgee on the 30th, would see em 31st, but i'm sixteen and it's 18 and older. I've already seen Umphrey's three times and i HIGHLY recommend them. They put on an intense show, good dancing, and fantastic if slightly showy musicianship.

Haha it's funny cause yesterday my brother and I were talking about Umphrey's is a band that we never listen to, but have a ton of their stuff on our computers. Honestly, I just get no emotion or anything special out there music. They're just insanely good instrumentally. I saw them live once last winter and I had a pretty good time- I was impressed by their musicianship, but nothing else. It was a pretty good show, but because there was nothing special or emotional about it or about their music for me, I can't rate them too highly. Having said that, I'd probably pay $20 or so to see them again if tickets were that cheap.

Yeah, Umphrey's just really doesn't do it for me. Like people have been saying, there is no doubt that they are talented individuals musically-speaking. But they are getting way too overrated in the scene. People make such a big deal about Umphrey's and I don't get it at all. Their music just gets too monotonous and boring for me.
I saw them last summer with STS9 opening and Sound Tribe just blew 'em away. Definitely will not be attending their New Years run in Chi-town.

Funny I saw Umphrey's with STS9 in a sort of double tour where they each played a set, and I'm pretty sure every single person i've talked to said Umphrey's blew STS9 away. I don't really want to start a "MY FAVORITE BAND IS BETTAH THAN YOURS" discussion, I just like Umphrey's better, I'm actually not a fan of STS9 at all so to each their own.
Robo, do you really find nothing special or emotional about Anchor Drops, In the kitchen, Jajunk, Wife Soup, The Bottom Half, Higgins, Divisions, Nemo, or Words?
If you haven't heard those songs i suggest you give them a listen, because i understand what your saying about their musicianship, but i really think they have something special about their songwriting too. And if you have heard those songs, I'll shut up, i'm just trying to get people to listen to more music.

I agree with this. Except I personally would not pay to see them again. I'm not going to say I hated every second of their set when I saw them because I was still groovin' a bit when they played but like robo said, I just don't get that emotional draw from them that really gets you into the music. And I realize this is merely a personal opinion and obviously others can get that out of their music.
But I'm going to try and keep an open mind the next time I see them because I'm sure I'll see them again eventually on some tour with another band or at a festival. Probably at Summercamp.

I have heard all of those songs, although I'll admit I've never paid attention to the lyrics too closely. They're playing 3 nights in a row at First Avenue in Minneapolis (same place I caught them last year) for $19 at the end of January so I might give them another chance then. And I did enjoy the show a lot last time, you could even say I was blown away by their musicianship, I just don't really enjoy listening to their music on my computer. But live, in the moment, it was pretty fun.

What bands do any of you guys listen to that aren't jam bands? I ask this because anyone who goes to my school who listens to jam bands either only listens to jam bands or listens to super gangsta rap and techno and jam bands at the same time.

If I'm not taking what you said wrong, then what you're referring to here is sometimes called "Livetronica"
However, it's not so much a mix of techno and jam music, but rather electronica and jam, sometimes with elements of jazz, funk, hip hop, drum and bass, etc infused into one. Some of these bands are specifically instrumental while others incorporate lyrics.
Personally, I find that some of the most interesting and talented bands currently in the jam scene have been categorized as "Livetronica." Now, whether or not these bands can be specifically labeled to a single genre is up for debate, but nevertheless...
Some bands affiliated with this genre that're highly worth checking out:
Particle
Pnuma Trio
EOTO
The Disco Biscuits
Lotus
STS9

Hell yeah man, Tribe is currently my favorite band. In my oppinion, by far the most unique and talented band in the jam scene.
I only wish I would have been able to see them live before they came out with Peaceblaster. It's really too bad they had to make a shitty album like Peaceblaster and become obssessed with it. I can't blame them though because obviously any band is going to try and hype new material and want to play new songs and such. But I don't even really consider Peaceblaster to be STS9, it's like a completely different ****ing band. They're old stuff is so much different and infinitely better. /end Peaceblaster rant
But yeah man, I just looked up the '08 Langerado set and it seemed pretty solid. Lately I've been diggin their '04 New Years set. Man would I kill to see Tribe on New Years... My friend is going to all four nights this year, lucky mother****er.:smoke:

The lineup is pretty exciting, seeing The Dead and Bob Dylan in the same weekend would be very cool. Along with Mule, Jackie Greene and a bunch of other non-headliner bands. Also, a lot of those bands tend to be electronica/trance-based which is not really my thing. Not too hyped about the String Cheese reunion though, never really got into them and pretty much all their stuff i've enjoyed tends to be from 2000 or earlier. Plus at least where I'm from, SCI seemed to pick up a chunk of that DMB/OAR crowd, and that could damper the festival experience a little bit. Having said that, I think it's on the same level as the Bonnaroo lineup or higher (especially in terms of headliners) and can't imagine anyone going there and having a bad time.
But I'm perfectly happy going to mountain jam instead.

Yeah Phish at Red Rocks should be pretty incredible. i live nowhere near red rocks, so it's not happening for me, but have a good time. I've never seen Phish before (got into them right after their final tour) so I'd like to make it to a Phish show somewhere this summer.
I am kicking myself for being in New York City right now and not going to any of the Allman Beacon shows. I'm missing out like crazy. Clapton sat in with them the last two nights...

I'd like to catch Phish this year but some old hacks + Warren Haynes took all my money.
I'm partially kidding. Phil, Billy, and Mickey are cool. I'll be in the nose-bleeds in Chicago watching Bobby murder a bunch of great songs, and probably having a damn good time.
Rothbury is nuts but it's too expensive - I'm gonna try to do their Work Exchange Program but other than that I wouldn't be able to make it. I think I'm going to 10k as well, not the greatest overall lineup but two nights of PANIC is gonna be huge.
I agree with Robo and the other guy who were talking about Umphrey's, you said pretty much exactly how I feel about them. I tried to give them another chance last week but they just don't do it for me. Too much talent and just no musicality.
How's everyone been? Seeing some good shows? Robo you're crazy, but there's still time (maybe, I have no idea what the ticket situation is like). I heard Phil and Bob are gonna be with them on the last night, or something like that. I caught a bunch of DSO shows over my "spring" break. Toledo, then Cleveland>Chicago>Milwaukee. Tons of fun. I've been reaaaally into Widespread Panic too. With Jimmy Herring they're bringing the heat again. See them if you get a chance.
Edit: Ghostfire, were you at the Chicago DSO show? They were on that night. Second set was fire the whole way through. Awesome China>Rider in the MIDDLE of the first set too.

Yo Lunch, you need to check out the band Bloodkin. I just discovered them a few days ago- If you're on a Panic kick, you'll love them. They're also from Athens, GA and started around the same time as Panic jamming with them and playing the same clubs. They actually wrote Can't Get High, Henry Parsons Died, and End of the Show, some of favorite Panic songs. They have a really sweet new album too.
Yeah, I feel really dumb for missing the Allmans, but at least I'll catch them at Mountain Jam. Tickets sold out really fast, and the only night I had friends interested in going was last night, we were going to try to scalp tickets, but tickets were being sold on the street outside the Beacon for like $500-1,000 apiece, so we passed.
I still haven't seen Panic yet and it really pisses me off

I wish man. I was planning on going with a friend but he got really sick that day so I decided not to go. I knew a few other people that went though and they said it was flame so I'm pretty disappointed I missed out.
Oh yeah, and my friend was telling me you can do this payment plan thing for Rothbury where you pay like $100 up front and then they charge you $75 2 weeks later and then $75 again 2 weeks later if you want to go but can't pay for it all at once. Plus think about the Dead/Dylan headliners. It would probably cost about the same to see them alone separately. And I have a feeling they'll play together for a little bit which would be sweet. I realize that both the Dead and Dylan are far beyond their ability to perform like they used to but this year's Rothbury is just gonna be epic.
Also, I would love to go to 10K and see 2 nights of Panic but as I said before DMB headlining turned me completely off. Rothbury and (maybe) Summercamp is where my money's at this summer...
EDIT: And anyone planning on goin to 10K should make an effort to see BoomBox if you get a chance. They're pretty fun live

This site will suit pretty much any live music needs of yours:
archive.org
Splendid website that people post live recordings of shows on and for streaming and/or downloading.
Now you have over 500 live STS9 shows to choose from :). However, I would suggest sorting by "Average Rating" or "Download Count" because those tend to be the best setlists with the best quality. Also, in terms of STS9 I would definitely suggest something older or at least before they released Peaceblaster as their live shows then were far better than they are now.

Well I don't what everyone else thinks, but I think they're incredible, and most of us can probably agree on that. I'm seeing them in a couple weeks, pretty excited. I actually haven't heard any of their studio work, but I've caught them live a couple times and listened to a few other live shows and loved it all. Seeing them with Scofield was especially mind-melting.
An ABB/Panic tour would own, and would completely make up for not seeing ABB last summer.
Also, not jam band related, but I'm seeing Jane's Addiction with NIN this summer, which should be pretty cool.

Hey hey everyone.
I saw Railroad Earth on Tuesday night, really blew me away. 2nd set especially. They're an incredibly talented group of guys, each of them so talented with their respective instrument and they play together so tightly and well, it's pretty mindblowing. And they just have a great vibe to their shows, one could say almost Dead-like...
Man, I just can't wait for Mountain Jam. They just released the band schedule the other day, Saturday's lineup is a little lame but Friday and Sunday are absolutely incredible. Sunday's Richie Havens -> Billy Kreutzmann Trio -> The Derek Trucks Band -> Michael Franti & Spearhead -> The Allman Brothers Band is going to be like 8 straight hours of mind melting music.

Yeah I agree, but they've been doing less of it lately. When I saw them recently they had some dudes from the opening act freestyle for a song or two but the majority of the show was good ol' Galactic.

Allgood lineup keeps getting better and better. I was disappointed with the initial announcement but they've got some good bands there...plus you can see every one of them if you want to. And like joshmay said, Allgood is gonna be awesome regardless of the lineup, the mountaintop is so much fun.
PANIC and ABB tour is going down. I'm hoping to catch the two shows in Chicago 9/2 and 9/3. Panic opens the first night and closes the second night...that's ideal for me. This tour is going to be so massive I can't believe it.
I saw Magicbus for a little bit at Lotus, it was wild. That show was pretty good for the most part (cool light show) but I didn't get into as much as I was hoping. It seemed short too. We did get a Spiritualize and a Greet the Mind though.
Rothbury is definitely going to be the spot as well, tickets are so expensive though. I still want to make it to 10k for those two nights of Panic too. Looks like money is gonna be hard to come by this summer for me.
DEAD tour starts next week! How crazy is that. I'll be seeing them in Chicago in less than a month...5/5. We just got a hotel room today and it's right by the venue so we can party hardy without worrying about traveling or where to crash.

First night of Dead tour last night.

02. Jack Straw
03. Estimated Prophet>
04. He's Gone>
05. Touch Of Grey>
06. I Need A Miracle>
07. Truckin'
Set 2:
01. Jam> Shakedown Street>
02. All Along The Watchtower>
03. Caution>
04. Drums> Space>
05. Cosmic Charlie>
06. New Potato Caboose>
07. Help On The Way> Slipknot!> Franklin's Tower
08. Encore: Samson And Delilah
Listen here-http://www.archive.org/details/thedead2009-04-12
I'm listening now, some of the jams kind of fall off the tracks (Estimated has a rough section) but for the most part, the show is surprisingly smoking. This tour will be much better than past reunions if this one show is any indication. Admittedly, I have not listened to the whole thing yet, but what I've heard has been good.
I also got to catch some pretty sweet concerts this weekend. Dr. Dog on Saturday night who were a really solid show and John Scofield last night who was absolutely mindblowing. Don't miss Scofield if you ever get the chance. The band he's touring with now is on fire.

That Dead setlist looks pretty smokin' on paper but for some reason it's not streaming on my computer so I'll give it a try again later..
Word is that the show was like 4 hours long with a pretty good amount of Phil singing songs, which sounds pretty good to me.:smoke:
Honestly, if Phil never song a song ever again I would not care :p

Should be an awesome time, not sure if I can afford it though.
Do any of you cats from the old CR thread (or anyone for that matter) still make jams? Ive been recording a bit mostly for fun but I was curious if you guys have bands or whatnot.
I'm not in a band or anything at the moment but I record ideas and jams all the time. Actually I was at an open jam at this local blues bar a few weeks ago, got up on stage with some 80 year old bluesmen and just improv'd the whole thing. So much fun, being on stage is a trip.
So yeah, I dug Lotus. Sorry to hear you didn't get as into it Lunch, but I had a blast. Spiritualize was definitely my highlight for the show, I was waiting for that all night. One of the bouncers caught me smoking a j in the crowd though, kinda a bummer haha.
Josh, I've got Tribe's Langerado set from last year, it's probably my favorite show I have of their's. Got it from a torrent (wasn't up on the archive), but I can send it to you if you'd like. Holla back.
And Rothbury is gonna be a riot. Very much looking forward to that.

The archive allows downloads of audience recordings for the Grateful Dead and is allowing the same for The Dead, although the recordings will be filed under The Dead as opposed to the Grateful Dead. The Dead are selling soundboards online too, which I'll probably buy at least one of but wait a bit to make sure the show I pay for is really spectacular.
I love Bobby and I love him as a singer, but when he sings Jerry tunes he just totally ****s them up. Bobby on Franklin's Tower is just painful, I like how they gave it to Phil the other night and hope he continues to do that one.

Here's the setlist for Langerado '08:

Set 2:

That Tribe set looks pretty stacked. EHM has been one of my favorite songs I've seen live by them and they don't often play it..
Also, that GD show looks phenomenal. I've always had a love for early Dead shows like late '60s/early '70s. Turn On Your Love Light is a favorite of mine that they used to play in the early days.

Yup, that's what I'm talkin about. Epitome of early Grateful Dead that I love so much. Early Dead shows will always and forever be my favorite to listen to. I don't want to say they got worse as they progressed over time because that's not necessarily true, but they lost a certain raw element that they only had in the early days. Can't complain with a 23 minute Dark Star into St. Stephen into The Eleven and closing out with a 24 minute Lovelight jammin' on into Hey Jude..

A lot of early Dead is available is surprisingly high quality. While the AUDs are mostly unlistenable, unless you're really feeling brave, the SBDs sound great. 3/1 is a classic set, and be sure to hit the few nights before (2/27, 2/28) and the night after (3/2). They're all pretty similar in songs played and quality but that doesn't mean you shouldn't own them all. If no one has them, I'll upload them sometime. They were released officially but there are perfectly fine sources that circulate which differ from the ones they remastered. Other essentials from 69 include the Avalon run 4/4 - 4/6 and the Ark run 4/21 - 4/23, all ammazing primal Dead.
Bus, is that STS9 set you uploaded the SBD? I have the audience source, which is available on archive. The set is killer though, some of my friends were at Langerado and said they destroyed.
Dead sets this tour have been interesting, definitely encouraging. I was hoping they wouldn't fall into a greatest hits type pattern, yet also hoping they wouldn't just throw as many random songs together as they could. These sets appear to offer a nice balance between the two. I haven't listened to them yet though, except for a couple bits of the Greensboro show. I've heard mostly positive reviews, the boys seem to be a lot better than we were expecting.
Anyone seen what Panic was up to in Orlando. Sets were killer. Check out panicstream.com if you're interesting. This site not only has current updates and streams available, they offer tons of sendspace links for various Panic shows and have a huge vault of streams available.

Yeah that Ark run is nice, I was going to upload that but decided on 2/7 instead, don't really know why.

yeah its good times rollin in here...i was gonna ask you guys if you had any ideas for how we could do more with the other music forum in general? id like to use my mod wand for the greater good.
i for one think we need more sendspace/mediafire/whatever upload threads. i think we all agree on a few of the finer points and its always good communing with other good folks. also they deleted the jazz forum (and put in a hiphop one), i dont know what thats about but we need to integrate the jazz people here, they are cool as **** and totally welcome. i myself petitioned for a country/folk forum but the Sputnikis wouldnt have it.
anyways what kinda nugs been circulatin in yalls neck of the woods? they are talkin about medical mj in tennessee, and i live about 30 miles from the border so that would be sweet. there is always good dank in ky though, recently got into this legit **** called butterscotch diesel ... it amazes me what people are doin with the genetics anymore...this bud tasted like a werther's original.

http://2009.lollapalooza.com/
I would like to see Thievery Corporation, STS9, and Atmosphere but not badly enough to shell out $200.
Also, I'm a little nervous/disappointed that STS9 is playing Lollapalooza. I'm not completely mad they're doing it, I just don't want them to pick up a shitty fanbase. Their fanbase is already split between those who know the band well from their older stuff, and the tree thugger kids who think they're gangsta or some **** and tend to ruin the vibe. Some of those dudes get too ****ed up at the show for their own good.

Ladies and gentlemen, from the infamous Europe '72 Tour...
Grateful Dead at Olympia Theater, Paris, France, 1972-04-05
brilliant show and a must have. Best version of Sugar Magnolia ever (to me, anyway): Bob's voice is at it's best. This particular version seems to be the one found on Europe 72 official release... Anyway, one of the greatest Grateful Dead stories ever told. Reading the various books over the years, it becomes apparent that band and crew alike were blazing like a forest fire at this show.
Donna recounts lying down underneath Keith's piano for a while during Playing, so high that all she could do was groove on the jam. At one point, she says, she thought, "Hey, I'm *in* this band!" and went back out to sing.

Any of you guys listen to the Disco Biscuits? I've been checking into some of their stuff recently. I like their concept of "inverted" and "dyslexic" songs.
Yes! Finally a little Bisco love in this thread. The Disco Biscuits are only getting better as a band. They just tore it up on the winter tour they just did. They are extremely creative and transition from song to song like no other. And agreed, the inverted thing is great. If you get a chance to seem 'em at a fest don't miss out!
I was planning on going to Bisco Inferno at Red Rocks this year but I don't have the money. Lineup is sick though. Disco Biscuits, Lotus, The New Deal, RJD2 and others
I highly recommend anyone looking to get into the Disco Biscuits obtain a copy of The Wind at Four to Fly. Or maybe I will upload it for everyone

Yessir.
I'm looking forward to seeing the Biscos at Rothbury. They do have a very unique sound. The show I've been listening to lately is their 09-01-2001 show at the Wetlands Preserve. Got a real cool Floes>House Dog Party Favor jam.

Biscuits are great if you're in the mood...I've never seen them live. 2007-06-26 is a good show with good quality, check it out on archive. If someone could upload The Wind at Four to Fly I'd be grateful. Their "inverted" and "dyslexic" thing would be cooler if all their songs didn't already sound the same, but it's cool how they switch things up. I really like Bisco when they just trance out, their vocals are horrible.
STS9 scene is definitely on the way down it seems. Even when I first saw them in fall 07 is was way better than when I saw them last fall. Too many flat brimmed kids who ate too many rolls. Speaking of the Disco Biscuits :p

Yes, that was what I was alluding to Lunch.. There is an increasing amount of these individuals that seem to be beginning to flood the STS9 and Disco Biscuits scenes. However, I must reiterate that this is not a true reflection of either band's fanbase. There are most definitely some genuine fun-loving fellows at both shows and I have definitely felt that some of the best atmospheres are at Tribe and Bisco shows. Just gotta find the right spot in the crowd

Listen to at least the last 6 or 7 minutes of Basis for a Day (it's 29 minutes long). The solo at the end by Jon Gutwillig is mind blowing. He absolutely tears it apart. Excellent guitarist

The opening show was good, but they have progressed miles from that since. Seriously, set aside a few hours to listen to that MSG show. 4/22 at Wilkes Barre is another real standout from the tour in my opinion. Definitely check out at least those two.

Good **** man, the Biscuits are on fire this year! If you get a chance, download some of the soundboards of the recent tour(s) off livedownloads.com or the archive.
My friend did Bisco tour this winter and spring and he said they have been straight smokin' at every show he saw them at.
Also, I'd like to point out that one of the greatest things about the Biscuits is that they can play an unbelievable show at any given time and place. It doesn't take a festival or a really large city to make them play a really unique and amazing set. For instance, my buddy said the Lawrence, Kansas stop was probably the best show of the tour.
Did you give Wind at Four to Fly a listen?

I need to get a job so I can hit up two festivals this summer. Since I'm staying in Michigan for the summer it seems obvious that I should go to Rothbury (plus all the people I know that are going), but with Panic's limited dates this spring>summer I really wanted to make it to 10k (yes, even though DMB is there and the rest of the lineup is lackluster) for their two headlining nights. Does anyone know anything about working at Rothbury? At this point it's probably too late to apply but I might still anyway. I feel like going "for free" would be worth making some sacrifices over the weekend, but I could be wrong.
Dead show (Chicago 5/5) was great. Dead tour is really, really, reaaaaallly wild...
Oh yea and Ghost, have a blast at Summercamp! That lineup is so stacked I can't see how you wouldn't. Here's to kicking off the season with a bang.

I made it to the 5/14 Dead show at Shoreline in Mountain View, CA. Incredible. Just check out the setlist:
Set 1:
Jack Straw
U.S. Blues >
Mason's Children
Ship Of Fools
Friend Of The Devil >
Standing On The Moon >
Terrapin Station >
Standing On The Moon
Set 2:
Estimated Prophet >
New Potato Caboose >
Born Cross Eyed >
Dear Mr. Fantasy >
Drums >
Space >
Morning Dew >
China Cat Sunflower >
I Know You Rider
E:
Scarlet Begonias >
Fire On The Mountain >
Deal
The Jack Straw opener was really killer, Warren and Jeff really shined leading the band into a really nice jam. The Standing On The Moon > Terrapin > Standing was totally nailed, although the transition from standing to terrapin seemed a little abrupt. second set highlights were the dear mr. fantasy and morning dew which showed warren at his best, drums with firedancers, and a really cooking i know you rider. the encore obviously was quite a treat. warren and bobby both sounded phenomenal vocally (bobby especially was much better than he has been on much of this tour). Instrumentally, the whole band was just really ace, couldn't have asked for more. can't wait for fall tour.

I went last year and I am going again this year. I am street-teaming to try to get a discounted ticket for my friend to go too. It's an amazing festival. Really well put on. I mean, there is shade from trees--so much better than roo. There is nice grassy areas and when they park you there are painted fire lanes--unlike some festivals. If you just cram in there the fire marshall comes and tells you to move. Which allows for easy access and if you need to leave you can. or if someone else does they dont jack up your stuff while your gone so they can leave. There is plenty of potable water--Super important. Langerado ran out constantly. Let's see, the stages are far enough away that you don't have too much competition for sound like Vegoose. Vending is great. Food is good. VERY CLEAN portolets and plenty of them. I cannot compare to 10K lakes per say but seriously if this fest is in your backyard, you MUST go.Hell I am flying from FL for round 2!!! I understand wanting to see Panic, but remember Dead show & String Cheese Reunion. You know Panic is going be around.
Have a Great Summer, no matter what your choice:chug:

So Summercamp was a grand ol' time. I met a lot of really cool people and saw some great music. Highlights for me were Toubab Krewe, Cornmeal, EOTO, Lotus and Bassnectar.
Summercamp really needs to work on the way they do late nights though. Paying an additional $20 for any late night you want to see gets expensive, ridiculous, and annoying. It's cool though because I saw Thursday late night which I didn't mind paying for since I got an entire days worth more of music, and they eventually were letting people in during Bassnectar late night on Sunday. But the barn it's in gets extremely hot with very little air circulation. They need to install fans or open windows.
Basically just an all-around fun time. And something I realized is that Summercamp seems to have some of the friendliest people at a festival, lots of good vibes and good times even when hanging out with complete strangers.

That latenight thing sounds pretty wacky. I don't really get it, you have to pay $20 for each night? That starts to pile up, cause late nights are usually some of the best sets of the festival and what you don't want to miss.
Otherwise that sounds pretty awesome. I saw Cornmeal in February and had a blast. Terrific band.
I'm leaving for Mountain Jam tomorrow, I'll be back with a full report on Monday.

Exactly. They charge an additional $20 for each late night ticket because all the late night shows are held in a big red barn and therefore there is limited capactity. The only reason I was willing to pay an extra $20 for Thursday was because it included other artists playing during the day and also the late night ticket that night, and you get to get there ahead of a lot of people and get a good camping spot. They should just start having the late nights outside because they are indeed some of the best shows at festivals.
And yes, please make sure to give us the low-down on how Mountain Jam was.

Mountain Jam has late night outside which is super sweet as long as it's not raining. except this year Girl Talk is the outside late night tomorrow night which doesn't interest me at all so I'll either be inside at Eric Krasno & Chapter 2 (band of Soulive guitarist) or outside at the campground stage where this local band Stoney Clove Lane (who are actually really talented) are playing. Saturday night Karl Denson's Tiny Universe is outside and U-Melt is inside, who I think will both put on great latenight shows so that's cool. Still doubt any of it will top Dark Star Orchestra latenight under the stars last year on a beautiful night.
I can understand them charging you for Thursday since like you said, it's like an extra full day of music so ends up being a pretty good deal. Charging for the other nights seems wrong to me though. They should definitely start setting up outside latenights there, because if they can manage to do it at Mountain Jam where it's constantly rainy and cold, they could definitely do it at Summercamp.

Agreed. I would have loved to hit up all the late nights this year but obviously was unable to do so. But I should mention that it is cool that they have one band play decently late each night outside as a free alternative. I was hoping to see Dark Star Orchestra Friday late night because they played a 3 hour set but I was pleased just the same seeing Cornmeal play a late 2 hour set without having to pay additional money. Only thing is the free late nights don't go very late, but it's still cool.
I'd love to hit up Mountain Jam sometime, where exactly is it again? New York if I'm not mistaken?

yeah i got a whole bunch of great stuff from those old ysi threads... good times indeed.
I saw NRPS last night which was a good show. David Nelson and Buddy Cage are still playing well and the band sounds great together. A tribute band for The Band opened and was fantastic, even though their name, The The Band Band was pretty dumb. The show was at a pretty fancy club in new york so we kind of figured we wouldn't be able to smoke inside. We were wrong, and of course with NRPS everyone was smoking constantly. We planned ahead though, and made some edibles that kicked in during The The Band Band's set and got me absurdly high, so the opening set was really fun. I just love The Band, their songs are just the best and the cover band played them very well. Great setlist- This Whee's On Fire, The Shape I'm In, The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down, Up On Cripple Creek, Stage Fright, King Harvest, Ophelia, I Shall Be Released, It Makes No Difference, W.S. Walcott Medicine Show, Life Is A Carnival, Chest Fever, The Weight... maybe even one or two more. They got better as they kept playing too, which is probably why their set was extended a little bit. I was pretty impressed and I'd definitely see them again.
NRPS were about as good as I expected. They have a new cd out which I bought at the show and they played a bunch off that, some of which are incredible and others not so much. In particular, check out the tune "Down The Middle" from the new album, beautiful lyrics by Robert Hunter. Played a bunch of old classics too that were all done well. Nelson in particular was in great shape, his guitar was really loud which was nice because he's just got such an interesting lead style. Anyways, you guys should check out the new riders if they're in your area- still good music and a real fun time...
Also sometime I gotta get around to writing a full mountain jam review but i'm too lazy to write that now.
Do any of you guys have Live Phish 13? I've been looking high and low for it.

Yeah I had eight friends that went down this year, I was supposed to be there as well but after a misfortunate incident I am no longer welcome across the border. :(

that sucks. i probably could've gone to bonnaroo but it would have been my one major spending thing for the summer. Instead I decided to go to the much cheaper and closer Mountain Jam and a bunch of other shows. I'm probably going to the Clearwater Music Festival next weekend which is like twenty minutes from me and put together by Pete Seeger. Not any jambands except Cornmeal but it's a pretty good lineup with Seeger, Richie Havens, Arlo Guthrie, Old Crow Medicine Show, Grace Potter, Taj Mahal, Alejandro Escovedo and others along with Cornmeal. Good price too, only 90 bucks for 2 days.
Saw a free Robert Randolph show on Friday. It was the first time I'd seen him and damn does he put on a good show.
Phish on Thursday :D
