I have it; it's interesting, ocassionally funny, and there's a handful of good songs, but there's better Garcia & Grisman albums.

I could post it in the YSI thread if you want, not right now though.

The fact that WSP are there is enough to get me to buy tickets, let alone Cake, G Love, Black Keys, Soulive, etc.

You goin Badmoon?

Probably not. I never end up going to anything, and I would suspect that the tickets would be sold out now, or soon; they've been out for awhile.

Much more of an Alternative band :)

Jam Band isn't really a description (Ex. They Jam = Jam Band), it's more than that; it's a genre or a grouping.

california is tamer than the other two. self titled is immature and eclectic and odd. disco volante is weird as hell. california has actual songs that follow a structure and what not.

i wouldnt classify them as a jam band.

No, but in Mason Town, WV (real close to Morgantown, home of WVU) they have The All Good Music Festival every year, which features many fantastic jam bands.

Anyone in here like Xavier Rudd? I don't believe he counts as a jam band but meh this where I see his music fits into. Xavier Rudd does vocals and plays Weissenborn slide guitars, 6 & 12 string acoustic/electric guitars, didgeridoo, stomp box, harmonica, Aztec drum, slit durm, djembe, shakers, slide banjo and ankle bells. I just got back from his show and he is simply amazing I bought his latest CD Solace. I recommend that everyone check him out.

The venue BSC is playing at near me is unbelievably easy to sneak into...I don't wanna drop $40 on admission with all those little crafty tents to check out and t-shirts to buy. That'll be a great concert though..I'm a pretty big Xavier Rudd fan.
I'm gonna see G. Love & Special Sauce July 13th....$15 can't beat that, they're my favorite band anyways, I'd pay $50 if it cost that much.

I'll be seeing Matisyahu July 12th, if you don't know who he is check him out, I think he's going to tour with Trey soon or he already did.

Blues Traveler are playing a free concert on my town green the 23rd.

Girls under the influence of drugs/alcohol make life easy.

I saw Blues Traveler on Saturday...wow, honestly one of the best concerts I've ever been to. It was a free concert on the town green, 25,000 people. I would've paid $40 to see those guys and it would have been worth it.

That sounds awesome. Have they released any good live cds?

Upcoming shows:
ABB/moe.
Spin Doctors
Brazilian Girls
Victor Wooten Band
The Black Keys

..and some shows I might go to:
Les Claypool (not really into him, but he's Les Claypool so I might go for the hell of it)
Leo Kottke & Mike Gordon (I would definitely go but it's 21+, we'll see if I cn sneak in or go with an adult)

Sorry about the neurons thing. Just looking for ways to connect, and in music, there doesn't seem to be many ways to do this. Not many are really listening to music these days. The jam band guys are. They are interested in rhythm, meter, and just being interesting. So I wanted to introduce us. But, I was reticent.

Smooth Jazz is just not interesting. Pop has a few interesting folks but the masses have no desire to explore. It's just hard to introduce yourself when you are "left of center" so to speak. Not many venues

I appreciate the Jam Band thing because, these folks haven't falled prey the "the sasmeness" in much music today

Another Prince Caspian fan

For some reason, that's my favorite Phish song. A lot of my friends listen to Phish, and they like it, but don't see how it could be my favorite. I don't know what it is, but there's something about that song that I just love.

For guy looking for Phish songs: Run Like An Antelope seems to be one of Phish's most popular songs, so you might want to try that one. Actually, their whole debut album is very good. Bouncing Around the Room is another highlight from their debut. I'd by their debut, called Lawn Boy, if you're looking to buy an album.

Some of my personal more mainstream Phish favorites include (but not limited to):
Divided Sky
Chalkdust Torture
Run Like an Antelope
Free
Prince Caspian
Frankenstein
Down w/ Disease
Llama
The Lizards
Wolfman's Brother

Good Luck, and if I might inquire, what other jambands do you listen to?

I saw the lizards at some opening show of some building somewhere, I don't really remember, but they were pretty good.

I'm not big on the whole jam band thing as a whole, but I've got plans to see North Mississippi Allstars, Derek Trucks Band, and Gov't Mule in November. I love the heavily blues and 'classic rock' based jam bands, but I don't like the Dead-style jam bands so much..

I saw it. the same documentary came out 2 weeks ago on DVD before it aired on PBS. I thought it was very well put together. Scorsese did a fine job.

It was awesome. I like to watch PBS at night they show some pretty cool shows. Right now there's a show about protest songs on and Chuck D, Bob Dylan and a few others are on it.

Didn't they air the Grateful Dead Movie once?

I know they aired the Closing of Winterland a couple of times, it was particularly memorable as the commentator guy mispronounced St. Stephen

Yeah, it is not a documentary. The largest portion of the film contains concert footage, but there are also sections of animation, backstage footage, and a montage of pictures from their past to current.

I didn't care so much about the movie until I read what epic energy was wasted on it. Something like two years and endless months of constantly editting drained their budget, and they sey the best part is the opening sequence anyway. I still want it. I asked some kid if I could borrow it but he's not so good with remebering things, and really good at avoiding me, and I don't feel like harrasing him. I might find someone else with it or just buy it. Or get my friend that has netflix to order it. If that doesn't work it will probably come on PBS again

New Topic: Discuss means by which to attain better seats, and methods that work

I find that if you want to go up front and it's not general admission, you can just flash the guards your tickets, and they usually don't check, so you go down as far as you can before they catch you

So I saw SCI last night, great show. The guy that opened, Chris Berry, was alright, he played like Latin R'n'B or something. He did have hot backup singers/dancers though, and in the secone set they came out and danced with Michael Kang and Billy Nershi, which was of course very funny. Also, I picked up a 3 Disc thing of the '05 BSC.

Highlights were the opener Ms. Brown's > Chameleon > Ms. Brown's and the 2nd Encore Black Clouds.
