Don't know if anyone has mentioned this before, but Channel 10 have picked the rights to show the IPL games when their season starts.
The facts:
- Five-year agreement worth $10 million to $15 million.
- They'll broadcast a whopping 59 games in 44 days, and use their HD channel for replays and matches that clash with footy games. Hi5 for digital TV.
- Ch 10 won't be poaching Ch 9's commentators, so those who bitch about Tony Greig being annoying, you'll probably be happy with that.
Looking forward to it.

i didnt see the sri lankan innings
but in australias innings everyone freaked out around the 32nd over when gilly got close to his hundred
him and clarke started playing realy retarded and the run rate dropped
clarke got out
basicaly everyone was playing for gillys hundred and they forgot about the game
then in the last 10 overs there was a lot of pressure and they collapsed
and sri lanka dropped a heap of catches

First IPL match was incredible. Unfortunately, there isn't anywhere on campus i know of with Setanta, so I'll probably miss the rest of the seies :(
I actually find myself not enjoying the cricket. I don't get excited when 6's and 4's are hit, as I usually do in international Twenty/20's or One Dayers. Also, Ten's telecast is horrible, which angers me.
yea this stuff bores me to death

I never found myself watching a 1day match let alone a test match.

Footage of Sreesanth crying made me laugh. Harbhajan will be in trouble.
West Indies Samuels has been banned for two years for match fixing. Shocking stuff, as he is a key batsman in the Windies line up, to face Australia shortly.
Also, Shoaib has taken 4-for in his return to cricket in the IPL.

Holy crap that sucks for both teams! There will be no competition now.
Funny story - a friend of mines new-ish girlfriend hooked up with Sreesanth when the Indians were here in the Summer - they went out partying and everything, looked like fun.
First test against Windies under way. Ponting notches up a hundred. Openers failed. Hopefully Hodge can get a big score with Punter.

The viewing hours for Aussies aren't ideal, no doubt about that. Still, there's something magical about watching sport in the middle of the night.
Great final day from Australia, with Clark setting up the victory with 5 wickets. Windies not good enough.

Haven't been paying much attention but how on Earth did Australia win that?
What do you mean? We were on top for the majority of sessions. Not a good 4th innings chasing ground either.
Clarke was amazing on Day 2. Notches up a great 100, and then comes out and gets 2 wickets late in the day. Australia on top.
Last session of day 4, and Australia pushing forward with a commanding lead after Lee finished off the Windies early in the day. Hussey opened, so there must be a problem with Katich. 5/234 with a lead of 360 atm. Tough day 5 for the Windies.
England's Anderson had a great day to put New Zealand in a bad position after day 2. 15 overs, 6-42, to leave New Zealand at 6-96.
Glenn McGrath's wife, Jane, has lost her 11 year battle with cancer. She passed away earlier this morning. Truly sad stuff. R.I.P.

Yessie, Sri Lanka won the Asia Cup :D.
Well done :).
Australia just mauled the Windies overnight. Made 341, then got them out for 172, with lots of B-team players.
Ronchi made his 50 in the final game, in 22 balls. Then David Hussey came out and got his in 19 balls. Amazing cricket. Highest winning margin against the Windies, and highest total as well.
Also take note of Anjantha Mendis. Recently got man of the series in Asia Cup, taking 6-19 against India. India labelled the spinner unplayable. Can spin the ball each way, with no stock delivery.

yea havig a good start
about time some one started bowling like that again
intresting to see how he goes in test matches
Ajantha Mendis continues his great run, with his debut against India in test matches. He took 8 wickets, Murali took 11, and Sri Lanka won by an innings and 239 runs. Very interesting player.

They've got a few South African players at the moment, but we need all the help we can get! With all the South African players in the English League forfeiting the chance to play for their own country tbh I reckon its a question of when rather than if there will be an England side entirely consisting of South Africans. Probably before South Africa field an entirely non-white side.
Australia vs. Bangladesh at the moment. Bangladesh bowling and fielding great, Australia will make around 200.
India vs. Australia under way. Australia struggling to find a decent spinner in our state cricket, that is a worry.

Yeah Punter looking set for a big one, just brought up the ton with a fkn awesome cut forward of square.
Pity I can't watch any of this. But Australia apparently will be lucky to get a drawn series. Very surprising the Indians allowed the curator to make a pace friendly pitch.

Funny that Punter got given out by a piece of **** decision when he probably should've been out before that if the decisions were accurate. Talk with many a cab driver about this series tonight. One advantage of getting on the piss in Adelaide town. Reckon we'll win the series hey. M. Clarke and S. Katich will bowl up a storm come Day 5, C. White is sh*t but it won't matter.

Sh|t hey forgot that was on, saw so many people walking on O'Connell as I was driving in to town and realised that it must've been because of that. Any good? Always hear that it's a good day with good amounts of beer.
Harbo smashed us, Lee had no answers to him, kept bowling rank, short-pitched leg-side deliveries to him and showed that he will never be one of the greats. McGrath would've shut him down and denied him any scoring opportunities - Lee is incapable of that. He was bowling at 134 kph, and with his line and length, that is just rank average, state level bowling, and when you're trying to win a series against India, in India, that's just not good enough. S. Clark showed once again that he is a disciplined bowler, but he just doesn't have the ability of a McGrath. And C. White, really, do I need to say anymore?

Yeah after I wrote "probably" I realised that it was only my Aussie bias/arrogance that caused that the be in there. Apart from Hussey and Ponting - who are world-class, and arguably the two best in the world - the rest are inconsistent and don't give the confidence that was there with the likes of Langer or the Waughs. Haddin, White, Siddle, like seriously the Aussie team is not what it was two years ago. Michael Clarke has all the talent in the world but he cannot be the next captain of Australia until he finds that fighting, gutsy determination that defined Alan Border, Mark Taylor and Steve Waugh.
Sharma is something special, especially for such a young kid.
Siddle will be good, just needs some time.
Bit of a joke to have White in the team, let's be honest.
RandyfromPennywise
10-18-2008, 11:41 PM
It is a joke, correct. His stock ball in a 90kph slow-medium delivery that doesn't turn. It's like Graham Gooch.
Hussey just nicked one off Sharma aftrer getting his 10th Test Fifty, but it went for four. Sharma is a real danger, and Khan is capable of killing us too. Hussey gone, fuk that's us done. Was gonna say Huss needed to get a 100 and Watson a 50 for us to have any chance of not losing this test but we're fked now Huss is gone. Sharma, a gun.

It's the only, I repeat, ONLY sport that a country of over a billion plays over here. Unless you count chess as a sport. They should be the best in the world hands down no questions asked just by the sheer numbers. But they aren't. Although I think that may change with all the money that's starting to flow into the country.
Some guy in my gym told me that the players on the national team aren't even the best players India has to offer. But with the level of corruption in this country, certain players can get a spot on the team over better players that don't have as much money/ a connection to help them get in.
Grumma

I think cricket will always be battling here (for numbers) because of all the other sports.
If Luke Hodge and a couple of others hadn't made AFL they'd probably be playing cricket for Australia
RandyfromPennywise
10-19-2008, 07:29 AM
Cricket will be battling for numbers but our facilities and youth development and coaches are the best in the world so we will be in the elite two or three countries for at least the next thirty years.
Australia in trouble, I'm guessing India will bat to tea, or just after tea, on day 4 and then put us back in for 120 overs at us, 500 runs ahead.
Grey Incision
10-19-2008, 07:48 PM
Maybe, could be too much of a risk though. As much as Australia is in a spot of bother at the moment, you can't discount the draw just yet. If India only allows for a day and the final session on day 4 to get 500, Australia is good enough to deadbat the entire 5th day and see it out for a draw. A side like Australia won't collapse unless they have a slightly realistic target.
Although, I must admit, India's bowling attack is f*cking lethal at the moment. Going to be an interesting couple of days.

10-20-2008, 12:28 AM
I think India putting Australia in to bat at tea would be a good move for them, this pitch is going to be absolute hell on the last day. Australia have no chance of winning though.
RandyfromPennywise
10-20-2008, 02:06 AM
Australia are capable of batting it out for a draw, but they have very, very rarely had to do it. It's not like the Border days. This side doesn't have 5th-day dead-bat experience. We need to shut down the run-rate and hope Mahendra Singh Dhoni makes an error and continues to bat after tea in search of 500. That's our hope - if we can finish up at stumps with 10 wickets in hand, we are a chance for a draw.
He won't have to bat till after tea in search of 500. They are almost there, and there run rate is getting impressive.

Gee we're looking alright! 34-0, Hayden looks like he wants to smash everything. World record run-chase is 513, we need 516......
Best case scenario is a draw. Katich and Haydos really trying to get on the attack, make the bowlers make mistakes, get defensive.
RandyfromPennywise
10-20-2008, 03:46 AM
