Interesting to read that Jacques Kallis has resigned as South African vice captain after being left out of their 20/20 squad.
I reckon even though he has batted a bit slowly during ODI's he would be a pretty good 20/20 player, he is a tank and can hit the ball out of the park and can bowl a good yorker.

6.Symonds

I wouldnt call it a good win, just a win.
Broad and Bopara deffinetly the stars of the team today.
But tbh, we should of had it wrapped up within 30 overs, with only 2/3 wickets dropped, our batsman have been up around 300 every other match, and today we should of walked all over them in the 2nd innings.
I have absolutely no complaints about the bowling or fielding today though.

samthebassman
09-05-2007, 01:48 AM
To be honest I dont think he that far from the truth... Pakistans big problem is that they are all selfish and terribly inconsistant, the actual ability of their players as unbelievable, that is what made their pathetic showing in the world cup so much more of a disappointment.
Grumma
09-05-2007, 01:56 AM
"team" being the key word there.
According to him Pakistan will . . .
"put Australia to the sword over the next 4 years"
"have got the luxury of a battery of fast bowlers and we should use it against Australia"
that's fair enough but just cos they're quick doesn't mean they're gonna be better than Lee or McGrath (was)
samthebassman
09-05-2007, 04:21 AM
They definitly could push the Aussies in the next few years, their 3 main quicks in Mohammad Asif, Umar Gul and Shoiab himself are all world class and would push for selection in any team in the world.
Even though the likes of Warne, McGrath & Langer have retired the Aussies still have the luxury of picking world class experienced players like Ponting, Hussey, Hayden, Gilchrist, Clarke, Lee, Clark, MacGill and Symonds, so I'm sure their success wont end... in the short term anyway.
But in maybe 3 years time when all of those guys (with the exception of Clarke, Lee & Symonds) have retired there will be a time when the Paki's (and England!) will be more than competetive against us.
Anyone who is aware of the calibre of player that Pakistan currently has wont underate them, they are capable of anything.

Wasim Akram is sitting in 6th spot...
I saw England bat last night, Shah played ok, Wright looked very streaky but showed he has got some potential.
I cant believe Dimi though, the guy bats like a total spastic and he hit 5 sixes in a row, I mean the guy has about as much technique as an out of form Glenn McGrath.

Yeah, yestoday he had to have an injection of pain killers into his ankle before he could play, i hope hes not damaging it, i'd be gutted if he was forced into retierment.
As for the indian cricket league, i couldnt care less about it. It seems players are going to it for money, £4million over 2 years ive heard. Also where are they going to play? the indian cricket board wont let them use there pitches so there going to be playing on crappy club pitches. It might ruin the chances of india and pakistan finding new talent if the players move to the ICL, as both of them have banned the players from international cricket. And the fact a TV station set it up because they didnt get the rights to show cricket on there channel pisses me off.

If they sorted out there fielding they would of got it i think.West Indian bowling attack and fielding was so pathetic it effectively cancelled out all Gayle's good work. South Africa very much deserved to win in the end. It as also kind of revenge for 4 years ago when the World Cup was hosted in SA and West Indies effectively knocked them out at the group stage(that and SA's inability to correctly interpret Duckworth/Lewis). Though the loss of Smith could be a fatal blow to their chanes of victory in the tournament.

How bad where austrialia, judging from pontings comments, quite i guess, but there standards are so high anyway.
"I think it's a mental thing for us - we've got to start respecting the game a little more and think about what we have to do," said Ponting.
"Our batting was diabolical, you can't afford to get off to those starts and that's where we lost the game."
It dosnt look good if ricky pretty much admitted that they don't take the game seriously.

Just a thaught.
Is there really any need for austrialia to have wore 4 different ODI kits this year?
I mean i think england having 2 is to many.
We have one for the ODIs, and just released one for the twenty20's.
Aus have 4, completely different strips (this year alone) for....
ODI - That really nice green one, which tbh, should be wore all the time
50 Over world cup
Twenty20's - That ugly silver one.
Twenty20 cup - not so nice silver and yellow one.
I mean, during the world cup we just took vodaphone of the sponser and put it as england, i cant see why all the teams cant do that, im annoyed england released another kit for this tournament, theres no need.

I hope the result of England vs Australia will lead to one of them being eliminated and Zimbabwe getting through, since I dislike both of them. Why are these associate teams in these tournaments.I hate this attitude, it's that kind of elitist thinking that will hinder cricket's expansion globally. Anyway, the West Indies, with the exclusion of Chris Gayle's first innings, haven't played much better and no-one would ever vouch that they be excluded from a tournament like this.
samthebassman
09-14-2007, 06:28 AM
The West Indies scored 160 and 205 in their 2 games, so at very least were competitive.
Kenya have played 2 games, in the first game they were 4-1 against NZ and struggled to 70 all out. NZ then got the runs in about 6 overs.
In their second game SL hammered them for 260 and restricted them to about 85 from their 20.
Please tell me what they would have gained from those 2 experiences.
Results such as those make a mockery of the game and the tournaments.

India in some strife... 5-217 in the 40th, I reckon the stuffed it up by sending Pathan in at 3 rather than Yuvraj... they gave Yuvi no time to get himself in and he got out cheaply... 100 needed from 57 balls.
C'mon Aussie!
Although Pathan did bat pretty well, with a run a ball 30.
samthebassman
10-14-2007, 05:50 AM
Yeah, I think they could've given Yuvraj that time to get in before having a thrash... I reckon he was custom made for that situation.

Murali Kartik had the game from hell last night, 6/27 and 20 odd not out to win India the game... gotta be happy with that.
Indian crowds were a disgrace again, the way they carried on about Symonds was pretty embarrasing.
I cant believe the Indian cricket boards reaction to this racism stuff, they have basically done nothing about it (even denied it happening)... you can imagine the carry on when the same thing happens at the Boxing day test match, when there are 100,000 pissed Aussies giving it to Sreesanth on the boundary... the Indians will squeel like stuffed pigs, but the difference will be that Cricket Australia would take a hard line stance on racism and do what they can to stamp it out.
