The Libertines-Up The Bracket
(If someone could provide the names of the band members it would help)
Released 2002

Just as The Strokes are huge in America, The Libertines are huge in The U.K. The show some Clash influences, but set themselves apart from the rest of the fodder. The lead singer was kicked out of the band, but has recentley (thank god) rejoined, hopefully we will be seeing more of them.

1. Vertigo
This is the perfect kick off track for this song the verse is quick and soft, then the chorus hits us with chaotic, slurry vocals. The cowbell in the bridge is cool. Over all a good track. 8/10

2. Death On The Stairs
This song is a little bit slower than the rest. The intro is perfectly suited for the feel of the song. With catchy lyrics "O baby please kill me/ O baby don't kill me". The Libertines at a softer moment. 8/10

3. Horror Show
The energy is back with this song. i really don't like this song to much its all to similar to Vertigo, although the chorus does set it apart. The albums weakest song other than What A Waster. 6/10

4. Time For Heros
Another love song, but it stands at from Death On The Stairs. It's more fast paced and less gloomy. A cool song for those happy moments. But, once again not really my favorite, its still a little repitive. 7/10

5. Boys In The Band
The beginging chaos of this song leads way for the best song on the album. An EXTREMELY catchy baseline underscores Pete's lyrics.
The chorus slow the song down to almost a swingish feel, than the pace picks up again. 10/10

6. Radio America
This is a nice break after the last song. Its much slower, with a cheap recording sound that brings out the song. Its rawness lets the emotion of the song come through. With a loud acoustic and a sizzle ride and a crackling mic, this is one of the better songs. 8.5/10

7. Up The Bracket
The title track of the album is probabley my second favorite. The verse is remniscent of young Clash, with an extremely catch chorus. The drums and guitar really lock in here, and the background vocals seal the deal. 9/10

8. Tell The King
Cool intresting intro leads into almost power-ballad ish riff. This song is extremely relaxing. The guitar really shines on this track. We here it as melodic instrument instead of a rhythm beast as on the rest of the album.
8/10

9. The Looked At Johnny
Catchy, Fun, and Upbeat, surf rockish song. Cool lyrics, but nothing really special here. 7.5/10

10. Begging
Starts out with a light drum beat and a bit of guitar. Shaping the foundation for this song. The vocal melody are really the highlight of this song, you'll find yourself humming in no time. The chorus is very good for this song, showing some resraint we really haven't heard yet. 8.5/10

11. The Good Old Days
If you listen to the begining of this song you swear iys a funk song. The operatic background singing underlines the amazing vocal melody and drum corps style snare beat, this is the last track on the U.K. version, and its quicklt aparant why, its the most haunting song on the album, it almost sounds like and ending. 9/10

12. I Get Along
On the U.S. version this song is included, it was on the last album, and its the Libertines biggest hit. It starts out with a simple riff and a heavy tom fill. Then the verse kicks off with a bang. The guitar here is very simple but very fitting, keeping the song fast pace. Then we get to the first guitar solo, and the catchy lytics on the entire album, "I get along, just singing my song, people tell me I'm wrong/ F*** Um. As is it couldn't get better a second solo comes in, and it does get better. 10/10

13. What A Waster
Another song on the U.S. version. I absoluely hate this song. If I burned this C.D. for someone I would leave this out. Words don't do this song justice. 2/10

14. Mocking Bird
Very cool bluesy rock song. Again, chaotic vocals with quickpaced druming. A cool finish to a great album. 8/10

Overly this is great CD, although What A Waster should be wiped from existance. 9/10
