I read that Essien kept Gerrard from doing anything all match.

essien did the job on him. liverpool done their best but they could figure out how to play once essien tracked gerrard everywhere

gallas out for the season. thats a tough one on arsenal. just when they were getting some stability

My housemate supports Southampton, so I kind of follow them - although they're really in the **** at the mo (holding company in administration, several points from safety in the relegation zone)...

Other than that, my home town team is Oxford - looks like we've missed another chance to get out of the Conference this year... :upset:

Britney - Barcelona have conceded cheap goals etc. etc., but in attack, they are as potent as I've seen this season, it's hard to deny that. For mine Messi is the best player in the world. His close-control is out of this world, his ability to find a way out of any situation is incredible, and he's one of the best dribblers in the world. Their midfield is irresistible. Xavi and Iniesta's understanding is phenomenal. The movement of the front six is breathtaking, best in the world.

Minus Flair - No, Liverpool didn't create more chances. Chelsea had many more shots and many more shots on goal. Can't remember exact numbers but I think it was about 18 shots to 9 or something and 9 on target to 2 or 3, not sure though. Scouse had all the possession but couldn't do anything. Gerrard didn't exist, Essien was immense, Lampard, Kalou and Malouda looked lively, Ana Ivanovic was just one-tall-too-many at corners and Chelsea deserved to win by that margin, if not one more. Oh yeah and by the way, Didier Drogba is sh*t.

Iai
04-10-2009, 04:03 AM
Chelsea should have won by more. If Drogba was genuinely fit and fresh, he'd have bagged a hat-trick.

123, I've always said that I'd swap Messi for Ronaldo any day. He's a much less hatable character too. Also one of my best friends sat next to him on a plane, apparently a cool guy, and that pretty much means we're related.

I agree that this season Messi has been the best in the world, last season for all his flair and dribbling ability, he couldn't touch Ronaldo for goal scoring threat. This season though, he's found his shooting boots and looks unstoppable. Also with Henry and Eto'o both on form...I can't see anyone stopping them.

Dave de Sylvia
04-10-2009, 11:50 PM
Why? Birmingham and Reading, if they go up, look well-equipped for the Premier League would a couple of reinforcements in key areas. Wolves lack experienced, but they definitely have the talent to do well.

Well, Birmingham look pretty strong, despite being out of the auto-promotion spot now. Reading I watched this morning and they looked pretty poor, but I think they could stay up, depending on whether Coppell has another wack attack like he did last time Reading were in the EPL.

Wolves I can't see staying up at all, they've strengthened their backline but midfield looks weak as.

04-11-2009, 04:38 AM
I think Reading have blown it this season. We're in a pretty horrendous run of form, not scoring or creating anything. I was only listening to the commentary yesterday but it sounded dire.

Any team going up will struggle I reckon. The quality in the championship's been really poor - the top 3 were dropping points match after match a while back and were still way ahead of everyone else. I like to think Reading would have the best chance if they make it but I can see it being more like last season, plus there's no guarantee Coppell will stick around for it anyway.

Which team has the tallest players? They'll stay up, probably at the expense of whichever of Sunderland or Boro doesn't get relegated this season.

Dave de Sylvia
04-11-2009, 09:43 AM
Well usually the tallest team is the one that has Dave Kitson, but as Stoke found out sometimes it's best to get rid.

I saw the Reading game: they were unlucky that the referee missed a blatant handball, which would have been a penalty, right before Sheff Utd went up and scored. I don't want SU to get promoted, so I'm hoping Birmingham capitalise on their Wolves win and push on.

You say that, but look at our record against Arsenal and Man U. 2 wins and 1 draw in 05/06, 3 draws in 06/07, 1 win and 2 draws in 07/08....we've already drawn with Arsenal this season too. Don't be too shocked if we get something out of those two. Probably got more of a chance in those two games than against Fulham to be honest.

Also, there's a very good chance that West Ham will have nothing to play for on the last day of the season.

Well Rio was injured for most of that, and hasn't really played particularly well the rest of the season. He's a bizarre choice. Giggs has played well, but his nomination is more nostalgia than anything.

The only serious candidates are Vidic and Gerrard. I'd like to see a defender get it, but I can't really justify anybody other than Gerrard for the award. He's been a different class this year.

What a ****ing disgrace. Yet again those stupid, useless cunts decide to right royally **** up the nominations. What a complete and utter load of ****ing bullshit.

For starters Schwarzer has been the best 'keeper in the Prem this season. Vidić, yes, agree, has been a sensation this year. Ronaldo, yes, way below his best is still very good. Gerrard, yes, he's been quality at times. And no Lampard? What a ****ing disgrace. Lampard has been a ****ing revelation this season. Giggs and Rio in there is just taking the piss. As far as midfielders instead of Giggs, I'd've named any one of Barry, Arteta, Ireland or A. Young ahead of him, not to mention ****ing Frank Lampard who should win the ****ing award which is clearly now not worth a piece of ****. Murphy, Kuyt and Taylor are more worthy of a nomination than Giggs. What about Jagielka or Lescott ahead of Rio? It's a ****ing disgrace. Lampard has been the best midfielder in the league this year. He has actually been the best player in the league this year. Look at how many times he was voted man-of-the-match, at least a dozen times out of 32 matches. ****ing unbelievable.

I wouldn't have any Chelsea players in it this year: I'm sure if you asked Frank Lampard, he'd admit he hasn't had a brilliant season. I am surprised that no Everton or Villa players made it though. I can understand Ireland and Young not making it (probably being saved for the young player), but the likes of Barry and Jagielka have been sensational. Perhaps Everton's defence is paying for its awful beginning to the season, and Villa for their recent slump.

I'm sure if you asked Frank Lampard, he'd admit he hasn't had a brilliant season.

This is a send up, right? How many Chelsea matches have you watched? Obviously not enough. He has been ****ing unreal this season, easily as good as his 2004-05 form which saw him named second best in the world. He has been best-on at least a dozen times, if not more. Gotta be a gee-up.

Well, if Wenger had told me that he would field a totally stupid starting eleven in a totally stupid formation and that he would make ridiculous substitutions, I wouldn't have said that.

Van Persie at left wing? He doesn't play good there.
Arshavin on the bench? He doesn't play good there.
Diaby? Shouldn't have started. He gave the ball up too easily.
Denilson? Shouldn't have started. He never plays well with Fabregas, and Fabregas suffers because of it.

It should have been a normal 4-4-2 with our midfield being Arshavin, Fabregas, Song and Walcott. And Adebayor never should have been taken out of the match. For Bendtner of all people.

Have you ever considered a career as an encyclopedia? Danny Tiatto was a complete scumbag though!

Incidentally, I was just reading an interview with an Irish lad who was let go by United last summer, and he was talking about how Ronaldo was one of the most helpful of the senior players with training and whatnot. Sort of goes against his public image.

I've always thought that Ronaldo would be a nice person off the pitch.

I've heard from a friend that Ronaldo was really nice to him when they met.

Randy: John Terry is widely hated because he blew snot on Tevez and called him a "f'ucking Argie c'unt" in Moscow, and the suspicious sending off against Spurs in 2006. Amongst other reasons.

She looks just like him too. They both have the same awful tanning bed skin as well.

“It is a problem. You’ve always got his interpreter running around the training ground. Sometimes you pass the ball and he chases it. And he’s running alongside him and he gets in there and heads it in the back of the net.”

– Harry Redknapp on Roman Pavlyuchenko’s lack of English.

Ronnie wasn't on the list.

the way you talked about him and nani then you might be thinking about adding him.

gerrard wasn't on the list, he doesn't need a reprieve

well he should make it really, buying his way out of a jail sentence for knocking a poor dj about

cheating squirrel + plays on his hard man image to win fouls etc

shouts at the ref with a ferocity that suggest he shot his mum all the time, dirty tackler, so proud of being english it hurts

and the least he could have done was give his poor old mum a few bob to go shopping. and hes a git who starts fights in clubs

lampard isn't hated so much, just over rated by english newspapers and chelsea fans, thats all

drogba? moany squirrel

Didn't someone say John Terry harassed some American tourists about 9/11 shortly after it happened?
