1623: "Latest news on Keane and Liverpool is that an agreement has been made with Valencia over David Villa. This is why Liverpool are letting Keane leave. Villa and Torres up front, now that would scare me."
Yup, that is scary.
Wouldn't be too surprised if it was true either.
Dave de Sylvia

I'd be surprised. Where would Villa play? He plays for Spain the role Torres plays for Liverpool; I can't see Benitez displacing his best player like that, especially when the team is now in the chasing position.
Disappointed to see Keane go. He'll probably never be tested again as vigorously as he was at Liverpool and he'll be a worse player as a result. I guess you can only take so much humiliation.

1704: Breaking news: The Football Association has confirmed that no disciplinary action will be taken against Chelsea defender Jose Bosingwa for his challenge on Liverpool's Yossi Benayoun on Sunday.
So, physical assault on the football field is acceptable, but winning a tackle (Frank Lampard) is a red card offence. Pathetic.

i was talking to the most total liverpool fan today about last night. he reckons it is all rafa's fault. what do you reckon? after drawing the two previous games against everton and losing gerrard in the first 15 minutes and with torres still not totally sharp then i can only fault him on lucas starting.
what do you reckon?
Pastorius
02-05-2009, 03:18 PM
I reckon he's going a bit batty, he's plugging away with Lucas even though he's failing big time, isn't excelling in any area. Slow passing, bad tackling, not a lot of pace.
Can't fault him on Gerrard getting injured, or Torres starting to feel his lack of fitness catching up to him, but Lucas is a huge mistake, I suppose it just goes to show he doesn't really care about the FA cup, but the rest of the squad was set up like he did care about it. Confusing.
Personally I think he should try Babel out up front a bit more, Riera is more than keeping him out of left wing, and without Keane, Torres will need support. Only problem is he tends to choke a bit, and lacks a finishing touch. But he's pacy and so so promising. Get him some striking training.
I don't reckon it's all Rafa's fault, I think we've generally lacked that killer edge that will allow us to turn our consistent domination of possession into goals.
mph4ever
02-05-2009, 04:12 PM
yeah, lucas seems to be the one that lets it all down, especially when you think about the freedom that mascherano would give alonso from the start.
perhaps with keane out of the equation then there will be a little less uncertainty and players can settle into their role. but it needs to be quick because some huge games coming in the next month or so.

I think it's safe to say Chelsea are now in the fight for fourth place.
I'm pretty sure I predicted earlier in this thread that Aston Villa wouldn't finish in the top four, I take that back. Their combination of effective counterattacks, defensive resillience and huge slices of luck have surprised me.
Anyone seen Liverpool's line-up? Looks like a 5-4-1 with Arbeloa and one of Dossena/Aurelio as wingbacks and the other of the the two as a left-winger, with David N'Gog as the lone striker. I can't remember the last time I saw a 5-4-1 formation in the Premier League, if at all.
I think he's actually playing Benayoun as a striker, judging by his comments in the week. Aurelio is acting as a CM, Carragher full-back, and Babel on the wing.
The_Passenger
02-07-2009, 11:53 AM
Where's Arbeloa playing then? Seems a bizzare formation given the personnel on the pitch.
On the wing. Well I assumed it was this -
Reina
Carragher - Agger - Squirtle - Dossena
Arbeloa - Aurelio - Mascherano - Babel
N'gog - Benayoun
We'll see on MOTD I guess.
edit: Kuyt has scored. Phew! He's made up for the points Reina just lost me.

I could hardly tell where anyone from Liverpool was playing. Rafa's idea of three at the back seems to be a reuglar back four with a centreback taken out.
Maybe it was? Crouch was up top on his own with Nugent and whoever else coming in from the flanks, I suppose there's some sort of logic in a like-for-like marking system. Although that's assuming that Liverpool actually have a marking system, which judging by the two goals yesterday they probably don't.
David Nugent, then. Harry Redknapp has this reputation for being the man who puts his arm round a player's shoulder, boosts their confidence, and then sends them out to play to the best of their ability, in a way other managers can't. So why is Tony Adams doing a better job of it? Redknapp in the media = Moyes in reality, really.

He got booked the first time for dissent with the ref, he'd told him to go away after Sagna (I think) fouled Modric 3 times and Eboue just ignored him so got booked.
The second card came after Modric knocked him over, the ref didn't see that after he went down, he kicked out at Modric. The ref gave Modric a yellow for diving but didn't let play resume. He then watched Eboue pretty much take the piss out of him and Modric and sent him off.

Adams never really had a chance. He inherited a squad with a massively inflated wage bill and was immediately forced to sell his best players with not much money left over to replace them. I wouldn't really be sorry to see them go down this year, even though they probably have enough good players to avoid it for another season.

Guus Hiddink looks likely to take over until the end of the season, keeping the Russia job in the meantime. Seems like a good move, but I wonder if he'll be tempted to stay on when it's done.
Can someone explain this to me? Birmingham send out their only recognised right-full on loan to Stoke, play one disastrous game with Sebastian Larsson, who is in no way a full-back, and then go and sign Liverpool legend Djimi Traore on loan to plug the gap. It's mental.

Clubs do pay each other for loans. If they got more money for their fullback than they spent on Traore (which is likely) then it makes perfect sense.
Dave de Sylvia
02-10-2009, 11:12 AM
I believe Stoke paid half a million for Kelly, which is nothing really. Especially when the net result is having Djimi Traore in your team.
Traore could have moved for free, and as bad as he was at Pool he's good enough for the Championship.

Yeah, but Birmingham are challenging for the title.
edit: http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/teams/b/birmingham_city/7881813.stm
OK it was an emergency loan. So obviously they didn't anticipate having to bring anyone in, and more than likely they had to pay above market for the privilege. Mental.

Something needs to be done about this England strip. The white shirt-white shorts-white socks-white player thing just isn't good enough at this level. And you can trust that Beckham clown to top it off with white boots.

I don't know who you're trying to have a dig at here (Chelsea, Liverpool, even Man City?) but Villa stick by their players, they deserve that CL spot. Okay, a few of their players have only been signed in the last couple of years, but that's just from where O'Neill has adressed the problems Villa had and fixed them. You watch, he's going to stick by that team.

this season after like 6 games i'm 3rd having won 4 & lost 2 with newcastle and tottenham both 2 points ahead of me. pwning in the champions league after one game. a 6-1 away win at juventus.

I got Bournemouth into the prem league, winning the FA cup and UEFA cup on the way. Now I'm on my 3rd Spurs season, came 4th 1st season, 1st last season and I'm currently 2nd.
What I want to see is a manager mode that starts 15 years in the past, so I can finish the mode actually recognising all the players instead of them just being computer-generated.
