Liverpool are looking good I must say, 5 goals and it looks like Kuyt was upfront on his own (didn't score) No torres and can rest in form Keane and get 5 goals away.

Yeah it's Newcastle, it's expected to win, but it was extremely comfortable.

I could honestly see the United vs Liverpool game at Old Trafford deciding the title as our games in hand take us 1 point behind and the game at OT will be vital.

It is a bit hard to believe, he's always seemed like a level headed person. Kept in custody though, still there now, it would be interesting to see what went on, apparently the guy that was beaten up was the club DJ, so what went on/what was said will be very interesting.

I think chances are it was his mates being twats and since he was with them he got taken in as well.

'Soccer ace Shola Ameobi was as sick as a parrot after being burgled.

'The furious Newcastle star, 27, called cops detailing the items stolen, including his cheque book.

'Then the truth hit home to the dopey striker, 27 - his £500,000 pad had not been ransacked, he had just left it incredibly messy.'

I agree with Trapattoni basically. They're both good players (Ireland is way, way better) but neither provides much in the way of defensive cover. I think Ireland could possibly do a job on the right in place of McGeady or an injured Duff, but that would kind of scupper the wing threat that seems to have worked well so far.

FFS United, Derby fully deserved that win + should of won by a bigger margin.

That's what you get for going into a match thinking you'll walk it, luckily it's a two legged affair and Alex should kick the **** out of the players until they get their mentality right.

Expect nothing less than a win at OT, that was shambolic, I think only Vidic, Rafael and to a lesser extent Evans had decent games (Which shouldn't be the case, it implies we were defending alot which we shouldn't of been -_-).

yeah, that makes a lot of sense. irelands old man came out and said he thought his son would be playing for ireland in '09. as long as trapattoni sticks to his guns and uses them as replacements then based on how each games is going then we should be ok.

Evans hasn't really impressed me so far either. He looks the vulnerable link whenever he plays, and I really don't like the idea of having to rely on Rio Ferdinand. I'd like to see John O'Shea step in when Ferdinand is injured, but Ferguson obviously doesn't rate him in the centre.

as long as trapattoni sticks to his guns and uses them as replacements then based on how each games is going then we should be ok.
I think Ireland will be good enough to start in the centre eventually. I just don't know how he'd react to having to sit on the bench for a couple of years.

Presumably this will be edited very soon, so here's the full Wikipedia entry as it stands now for Richie De Laet.

Richie De Laet (born 28 November 1988 in Antwerp) is a Belgian footballer currently playing for Premier League side Manchester United. A highly-rated defender, he can play anywhere along the back four.

De Laet signed for Stoke City for an initial £100,000 fee, on 17 August 2007, from Belgian club Royal Antwerp, penning a 3-year deal.[1]

In July 2008, De Laet joined Bournemouth on trial, and played his first game in a friendly against Portsmouth, a 4-1 defeat. However, he later returned to Stoke City. In October 2008 he joined Wrexham on a one-month loan deal, making his debut in a 2-0 victory over Lewes. He made a total of three appearances during his time at the club before his loan spell was terminated in order for him to undergo a hernia operation.[2]

The belgian was surprisingly signed on a performance-based contract by Manchester United on January 8th, where he would play on-loan in the reserves until the end of the season. Many though it was a joke and Andrew Marshall has agreed to do shoot himself if he ever makes a Premier League appearance for the Red Devils.

Many were surprised at the transfer, which appears to hark back to his period with Royal Antwerp, a feeder club of Manchester United. Nonetheless, the fact that he had not made a single appearance for Stoke, has seen popular fans-forum RedCafe go into meltdown, with many claiming to be experts on a player that they had, up to this point, never heard of; some even likening him to United great John O'Shea, Kop crusher and Figo nutmegger.

He is widely expected to start sundays crucial match against Chelsea as a replacement for the injured Rio Ferdinand, with Fergie ready to unleash the man dubbed the Belgian Biggins onto the world stage. De Laet is said to be bitterly dissapointed to have been axed by Stoke, with Tony Pulis looking to build a team of 11 players who are all over 6 ft and 7 inches or above in height, so that Rory Delap can continue to hurl the ball into the box from throw ins and air bombard to kingdom come.

Liverpool were awful. Gerrard had a good freekick that hit the bar and stole in at the end and had a good effort against the post, but they basically offered nothing. I didn't even spot Benayoun until half way through the second half, and Torres didn't even put together ten touches in his entire half-hour on the pitch.

I don't think it has anything to do with Benitez's outburst at the week (I think he was playing a few games of his own), but the decision to play neither Torres nor Keane, especially when it clearly wasn't working, was bizarre. And I still think he's going to bottle the title sooner rather than later.

no, united never turned up at anfield

i thought united were superb whilst leaving carrick, scholes, tevez et al on the bench and missing ferdinand too. chelsea had close on what is their finest on display and they were well and truly beaten

Pastorius
01-11-2009, 01:33 PM
It's not the players you put out, it's the performances they put in. You can have the greatest squad ever, but if they're not playing then it's no use.

United got shut down at Anfield, they folded under high pressure tactics from Liverpool and had no answer to not having time on the ball to play.

I thought United tonight had nothing to defend against, any half decent team will avoid goals with Chelsea's attack tonight.

Dave de Sylvia
01-11-2009, 01:35 PM
So when United play badly, it's because Liverpool forced them to.

When Chelsea play badly, it's completely unforced?

Pastorius
01-11-2009, 01:40 PM
Well United didn't play badly, they just weren't allowed to play. There were times when Liverpool eased up on the pressure that they played well but they were rare.

Dave de Sylvia
01-11-2009, 02:09 PM
There's still an insane double standard going on here.

United did play badly against Liverpool, whether they were forced to or not, just as Chelsea did today.

The reason I think United were so bad against Liverpool was that they sat back and allowed Liverpool to have all the possession, which is usually the best way to contain Liverpool's attacking ability, but Liverpool generally don't give you many opportunities to break, and so it proved during the match.

That doesn't downplay Liverpool's achievement (they were magnificent), but it doesn't change the fact that United were bogged down by their own flawed approach.

Chelsea didn't play well today, but that doesn't negate the fact that United put in an extremely disciplined performance that cut out Chelsea's usual channels of attack, cut out almost all of their options in the final third and exploited their obvious defensive weaknesses. They didn't play well but they're still a great team and they were still flipped over and boned royally by a far superior side.

Pastorius
01-11-2009, 02:17 PM
I don't think United played particularly amazingly today, I think any half decent side would have done well against that Chelsea performance, they offered nothing in attack, save floated balls over the top, and defensively looked out of sorts.

In contrast, I don't think any half decent side would have done as well against the United team that played against Liverpool, because when Liverpool slacked off the pressure, they did create more chances and push forward. I don't think they sat back that much, it's just that Liverpool chased the ball and didn't let United attack them before trying to steal the ball back, in particular Robbie Keane put in a phenomenal amount of work to stop United even getting started.

Dave de Sylvia
01-11-2009, 02:41 PM
United backline was incredible today. Park put in dozens of great challenges, O'Shea was incredible in defence when he came on and Rooney and Ronaldo looked revitalised. And you can't really discount the fact that they put the ball in the net 5 times.

Kaka's agent has come out and said, basically, that it's not impossible but there's no way Kaka would do a Robinho and sign for a club just for money.

At the age Kaka is, with the ability he has, there's no way he'd go to a club that weren't regular Champions League quarter-finalists, at the very least. And then you've got to wonder whether he'd be willing to play in any league that isn't England, Spain, or Italy. Get rid of Inter Milan because he won't betray AC like that. That leaves you with what....maybe 6 teams?

And honestly, would he even want to live in a Godless country like ours?

Wow, this is incredible, Man City are dreaming if they think they can sign players like Kaka.

I wish Man City would be more content with making bids for slightly less awesome players.

couple of things

since football is an english game then can we use pounds as the currency for english dealings.

£91 million is just sick for kaka. didn't even get in the top three although he is way ahead of torres imo

right now city need defenders. holding midfielder too perhaps. goalie

Well Kaka didn't really have a great season last year, as demonstrated by his team's poor performance in the CL and failure to even qualify for this year's tournament.

In fact, the only reason he ranked so highly this year is arguably because he was so good the previous couple of years.

I dunno, most of the Milan games I caught last season had Kaka basically trying to carry the team on his own. Apart from Gattuso and sometimes Pato, everybody else looked either uninterested (attackers) or about 10 years past their best (defenders).

Should we make a list of players Man City might realistically sign, so we can show them it and save them all the hassle?

Let's start with Mido.
