I hope he eats Nani.
edit: I think Arsenal played so well against United because we allowed them to play the way they like to play. It made for a very exciting game, and to United's credit we had just as many chances to win it (and probably should have), but I think if we'd been a little smarter about it (like City) they could have been easily dispatched.

The fact is, the majority of United fans would rather beat Liverpool than City.

What did Cronaldo do to get sent off?
Echleon
11-30-2008, 09:53 AM
To be fair, I can't really defend Ronaldo on this one.
It was a deliberate hand-ball, and whether he thought the whistle had gone or not - it's still a yellow card.
However, his first yellow was ridiculous and never should have been given. Oh, and I REALLY REALLY wish Rooney had scored that 50 yarder :(
All in all, 3 points in the bag but we are without Evra and Ronaldo for Spurs which is a bit of a pain. Ronaldo may not be playing at his best, and could probably do with a rest to be fair, but Evra is absolutely fantastic week in and week out.
What did Cronaldo do to get sent off?
Fouled someone to get his first yellow, then used his hands to shield his face from a corner - deliberate handball.

What was with the bumming of Rooney on the big attempt? Any of the 22 players on the pitch would have done the same. Its not as if he's the only one able of kicking the ball far.
Bad loss for City, just a complete shambles in the first half, then in the second their best solution to getting the ball was passing it back to the defenders.

Ronaldo shouldn't have received that second yellow. There's nothing in the rules about a deliberate handball being a second yellow, unless it's regarded as unsporting behaviour. Passing up a clear-cut goal opportunity is hardly "unsporting behaviour" but as soon as he clapped the ref he was always going to get sent off.
Howard Webb was terrible today.

Webb is usually excellent, to be fair, but today he was far too litigious. Did any City players even get booked? I didn't think it was a dirty game by any means, but he seemed to be handing out yellow cards like they were Christmas cards.
The ball was in play, he used his hands to direct the ball, he got a yellow card. Whats the complaint?
Direct the ball where? He didn't gain any advantage from handling it. It's exactly the same as the Benni McCarthy decision a few weeks back- the fact that he passed up a legitimate scoring chance should be punishment enough.

I think Webb is easily the best referee in the Premiership (didn't deserve to be sent home from the Euros), but he had a bad day yesterday. He was way too fussy about letting people take free kicks, and he seemed to be giving out yellow cards to stop the game getting out of control, yet it never really looked like becoming that sort of game.
The Daily Mail. I didn't see the match but I saw the highlights of him getting booked for applauding the ref. What an idiot.
He got booked for the foul- that's what he was applauding the ref. I think it more or less sealed his fate though; Webb wasn't going to do him any favours once he handled the ball.
Still think it's silly that people can be sent off for completely innocuous handballs though. Benni McCarthy shouldn't have been sent off either.
Good point made about yesterday's game on F365 - Fergie's been whining about the way Ronaldo gets fouled all the time, but four Utd players all got booked for fouls on SWP yesterday.

He's always whined about his players getting fouled. Wenger's starting to go the same way as well.

12-01-2008, 07:37 AM
I don't get the rules about challenges like the one for instance that Carrick made on SWP, now he got a yellow for it, but is it really fair? You get a yellow for mistiming a tackle or something. SWP was getting away from Carrick using his pace, so Carrick took him out from behind knowing he'd only get a yellow.
People do it all the time, they take the yellow for their team, but is a yellow a fair punishment for it? I always thought if you took a player down from behind with no attempt to win the ball, but simply to stop him progressing should be punishable by a red.
The player would still need to get past the defence, so it's obviously not a clear goal scoring opportunity, I wanted to know what people thought about such challenges, sure they help the team by buying them time to get their defence sorted and such, but it's so horribly deliberate it just seems unfair to me >_>

I know he didn't get a yellow for clapping the reft  but he should have.
Technically, deliberate hand-ball is not a yellow card - it's only if the player seeks to gain an advantage by handballing it - ie. using his hand to score a goal, move the ball into a better position for him, or to beat a player or something. He probably did deserve to go anyway though.
I always thought if you took a player down from behind with no attempt to win the ball, but simply to stop him progressing should be punishable by a red
Nah, it's only a red if the player that takes the other one out is the last man, thus denying a goal-scoring opportunity. Tackles from behind are also only red if they are super malicious, stucks showing, very high etc.
Yeah it is abit unfair I agree, but I guess it would be pretty hard in the heat of a moment during a fast paced game to distinquish between a deliberate foul, or just a sloppy challenge. I think there would end up being ALOT of red cards thrown around if this was the case.
I do agree though to some extent. Some teams do just resort to deliberately fouling highly skilled players - Messi, Ronaldo etc. because they just can't cope with them. I guess it's one way of stopping them really - although it may not really be fair. Saying that, if they do it more than once they are off the pitch.
Good point made about yesterday's game on F365 - Fergie's been whining about the way Ronaldo gets fouled all the time, but four Utd players all got booked for fouls on SWP yesterday.
Meh it's just Fergie. He always defends his players no matter what they do. It wouldn't be really good if he came out in the media and said 'I thought it was disgusting that my players kept fouling Wright-Phillips'. He is a hypocrite, but he has to be. The Ronaldo thing is also mind games, by complaining about the treatment he gets, the refs and linesman may be more alert and give him better protection without even thinking about it - kind of subconciously.
I can't think of anyone I dislike more in football.

When Ronaldinho won World Player of the Year, he said something like 'If my name was Eto'odinho I would have won.' Also came out and said 'Some people in the team care more about money than then team's fortunes' or something along those lines.
Oh, also when Barca won the league, he chanted 'Madrid, bastards, hail the champions' during a speech at the Nou Camp - despite Real Madrid being the team that took him on when he was 16/17 and developed him into a player.

ref was useless yesterday, seemed like he was taken in by all the hype surrounding the game and lashed out yellow cards for fouls that really didn't deserve it. rafael just lobbed the ball too high, he didn't need to card him. the ref failed because he should have sent ronaldo off for the clapping. once he left him on the pitch then there was always going to be problems. ronaldo should never have gotten a yellow for the handball.
ronaldo is excellent. he is to be admired, not slagged. sure he makes the odd mistake, but then he is only human. its wrong to think of him in terms of drogba or terry or gerrard or palour or keown or lampard or carragher or diouf or van persie or anelka or gary neville or tiatto or that little bald lad that played for leeds and then city, england player. - i remember, danny bleedin' mills

Only saw the first half of the Reading game tonight, but it was pretty poor. Pleased with the win, but central midfield is an issue. The commentators were harping on about Cisse, but Harper was just as bad. I want to see Matejovsky get a run in the side now, next to Cisse or Karacan, someone more defence minded. The rest of the team looks good, and there should be enough for automatic promotion if the midfield is sorted.

Echleon
12-02-2008, 10:28 AM
To be honest, we really havn't missed Scholes and Hargreaves an awful lot.
Fletcher and Carrick have been immense to an extent that Scholes wont just be able to walk into the team.
We could really have done with Hargreaves earlier on the season when Carrick got injured, then Scholes got injured soon after. But alas, we could have done with Scholes against Villa as Anderson had just come back from Brazil, and Fletcher was injured so we were forced to play Giggs in CM, which really wasn't wise against 3 CM's.
mph4ever
12-02-2008, 11:01 AM
scholes is the best midfielder we have. hes is one of the best in europe, even at his age. his absence is the reason why we have failed to control games, put teams away, hargreaves too is massive loss to the team that ferguson wants to play
giggs should not be expected to play centre

Giggs shouldn't be expected to play in the Centre, but Fergie says he hasn't got the legs at the moment. So it leaves the question: 'Will this be the great man's last season?'
Ronaldo was brilliant last season. I'm sure he can regain some form soon. Not playing midweek will certainly help him.
EDIT: Just watched the video too - was absolutely outstanding. I think I counted about 9 headers - shows how good he is in the air.

Hmmm, that sounds familiar!
Seriously though, if we beat Blackburn tonight the cup is as good as ours. I fancy ourselves against Spurs, Burnley, Derby and Watford over two legs. I kinda hope we get Spurs if they win because I feel we have a better chance of beating them over two games than in the Final.
Thing is, the longer we keep going in this competition, the more difficult our season is going to become. We are off to Japan for the World Club Cup thing, which is going to cause us to 2 games behind in the Premiership. I think Fergie was hoping to get the games organised for Carling Cup time if we got knocked out.
Though I suppose having two games in hand against Wigan and Fulham wont be too bad - I think in '99 when we had to same issue Fergie said 'Were we sunning ourselves on the beach whilst our title rivals were droppoing points at home'
Anyway, the Japan thing will help get Scholes back into the mix, give Foster a chance to make his claim, and REALLY see what Rafael can do.
Rafael kept Robinho quiet for 90 minutes. What more do you want?

I think that's bollocks.
Ramos took over from a team that finished 5th 2 consecutive seasons in a row and managed to finish in 11th. Sure the team weren't doing too well that season anyway and he was new so I'll let that slide.
Getting 2 points from 9 games however, I cannot let slide. How many games do you need to adjust to a different style of football? If Spurs hadn't gotten rid of him, how many points would they be on now 4 or 5?
Also, the fact that he didn't learn English did him no favours, combined to the fact that players were effectively banished from the squad for disagreeing with him.
Sure Comolli did him no favours either, but when you read comments from players stating they have no idea what they're doing and that they go into matches feeling hungry(!) you think that he is not a good manager at all.
That's how I feel as a Spurs fan anyway, I'm sure you'll all disagree but if he was the manager of your team and you came up with results like that, I'm sure you wouldn't be so quick to praise him either.

That's how I feel as a Spurs fan anyway, I'm sure you'll all disagree but if he was the manager of your team and you came up with results like that, I'm sure you wouldn't be so quick to praise him either.
did you think jol should have went when he did?

To be honest I wasn't following football back then like I am now.
Honestly, looking back on Jol's bad run up to when he was sacked, it doesn't look too bad compared with Ramos and maybe he shouldn't have gone.
But that said, look how Harry's doing already.

sure, but look how jol has done at hamburg and watch how well ramos does in spain.
harry will do ok in his last job, he won't change the order of things in the premiership but he won't have you worried about relegation 5 games into the season
i just think spurs problem is their chairman, has been for the past 20 years or so with sugar and levy but they get to blame everyone else and sack them accordingly
i think spurs supporters are excellent, they de

Good job Liverpool, with a weak squad.
A good game for all who are feeling a little low on confidence. Ngog got one in a cool manner, Babel proved he can score, Keane put some lovely passes through to Ngog and Babel.

I think it was just a matter that Ramos clearly wasn't suited for English Football. It was defiently right for him to go, as if he wasn't even speaking to the players due to the language barrier then there is obviously a serious problem within.
You can't doubt his pedigree in Spain though. Two UEFA cups on the trot and should have won La Liga in 06/07 with Sevilla if they didn't bottle it so much.
He will do well for Real Madrid, that's for sure.

Indubitably. It's funny, I seem to be under the illusion Chelsea are a big club in recent years because they're doing so well. I wonder if people will think Manchester City are a big club four years from now.

looking at chelsea's squad and the players they need to replace shortly then i think they are going to have to spend big all over againt to maintain their status. the resale value of their current squad will not fund much.
i just wonder who city can attract. its only going to be footballers in it for the money, not the shirt

Arsenal put on a poor performance again. Wenger must be worried. I'm worried and I'm a Arsenal fan.

Indeed. Stupid fans decided to boo Eboue. Sure he lost possession a few times but so does every player during a game. The fact that we have got so many injuries at the moment doesn't help.
