He'll be remembered for the '99 Champions League final, and the 11 minute, 4 goal spell against Forest, if not anything else. :D

Yes...im sure we shall all remeber that moment forever without a slight hint of a grudge at all.

I remeber someone saying today that it wont matte who is the Scotland manager, there are few talented players around at the moment for them to be a good side.

But still, a new manager would be good

Just heard Stuart Pearce wants the Leicester job, VERY dissapointed now

mr snrub
10-21-2004, 05:14 PM
I certainly am looking forward to the game. Although I think our chances may of gone down a bit as we now have Vieira and Henry on the injured list, but hopefully they will be back in time. If both teams play to their full potential then it will be a breeze for Arsenal because I feel that at the moment they are just so much better than Man Utd, although I say that I try not to get too complacent, but seriously Man Utd's only chance of winning is if Arsenal have a bad day. Big day, Rooney's 19th, Arsenal's 50th...

Adam Jones is GOD
10-21-2004, 05:24 PM
As far as I know, Stuart Pearce is still coaching, but he would make a good manager, he did a good job when he took over part time for us, even if it was brief. With more experience he would do a good job for most Championship teams.

And as a netural, very much looking forward to Sunday's match. Might put some money on Arsenal, though its gonna be close

Iai
10-21-2004, 05:55 PM
The game's gonna end really crappily. The winning goal will be an own goal, or a dodgy penalty decision, or a lame mistake by Lehman.

Both teams have crap keepers, mind, so we may be looking at a 5-4 thriller. :)

mr snrub
10-22-2004, 02:01 PM
But both defenses are pretty awesome. Ferdinand is great and Silvestre and O'Shea and Neville are always solid. And Arsenal have Campbell who is great, Toure is ever improving and Cole and Lauren are both brilliant both defensively and attackingly. I think the match will be won in midfield. It will be Vieira vs Keane (if they play) and then Pires vs Ronaldo which will be a good battle, and also Fabregas is showing class, and in the charity shield match he dominated the midfield.

Kickflip_Burrito
10-22-2004, 02:11 PM
It'll probably be a draw, I'm an Arsenal supporter but I can't really see a winner coming out of it. Its so hyped up, it'll probably be a boring whimper of a game rather than a cracking game of the season.

Come on you Gunners!

Hahaha. Rooney! The birthday boy scores.

T'was a **** game, but I'm glad we could put a stop to Arsenal's unbeaten run.

And even if Rooney did dive, United did deserve a penalty a few minutes later for the foul on Ronaldo, so it's all evened out in the end.

I think Arsenal v Chelsea is going to be a much bigger game

mr snrub
10-25-2004, 07:06 AM
I hate to moan and sound like a bad loser, but the ref had a shocker, rio should of been sent off for that last man push on freddie ljunberg, the neville brothers were practically beating up reyes, van nistelrooy should of at least had a yellow for that tackle on cole, rooney dived, in the celebration van nistelrooy screamed like a little girl, and i hate it when teams time waste when they are winning - in open play it is ok, but off goal kicks and when the goal keeper has the ball he shouldnt be taking 30 seconds to clear it. I knew our run would come to an end soon, I am just gutted that it was at Old Trafford.

mr snrub
10-25-2004, 07:14 AM
True, I couldn't believe it wasn't even a foul! We both had our chances, and both defences were pretty good but neither goalkeeper had to do anything amazing. It wasn't the game everyone made it up to be, but I think the difference was luck yes, and also you took your chances when we didn't and you used your possesion better than we did. I just hope that this doesn't start a run of loosing now and that we can start winning again, and start another run and this time make it to 50!

At least Arsenal can beat one Manchester team - our reserves just beat Man City 2-1 in the cup.

Adam Jones is GOD
10-27-2004, 05:30 PM
I like the Carling Cup, bigger clubs dont try and we can take heart that we beat Doncaster 2 - 0 away from home. Which is our biggest acchivement this season

Fulham at home in the next round, and you have Everton...at home

mr snrub
10-27-2004, 05:33 PM
Yeah it's good that way. It's nice for the less big clubs to get into Europe via the carling cup in opposed to the fa cup which the big guns usually (and I say usually) dominate. But sometimes you get teams like Liverpool who know they aren't going to win anything else so they try...and end up winning it, which ruins it for everyone else.

mr snrub
10-27-2004, 05:35 PM
Also from my point of view as an Arsenal fan, it is good to see youngsters playing for experience. There were only about 4 Arsenal players that I had heard of in the starting line-up.

Adam Jones is GOD
10-27-2004, 05:37 PM
The FA cup is entertaining for the first 3 - 4 rounds, then it just becomes 90% prem/div 1 (still gonna call it that) ties.

Looking at the tie Liverpool may stumble against Middlesborough. united should go through even with a second side out, and Newcastle v Chealsea will be a good game to watch

mr snrub
10-27-2004, 05:42 PM
Well it all depends on how much the club wants to win this cup. Newcastle v Chelsea could just be a reserve match (mostly) and then Liverpool, Man Utd and Arsenal are all bound to field a variety of players. But if every team fields their best 11, then they will be different matches and it will be a very different tournament like the FA Cup, where it will be dominated by the big shots. But I'd love to see Burnely, Forest, Palace or Cardiff win it. Or at least one of them make the final.

Adam Jones is GOD
10-27-2004, 05:45 PM
I would like to see forest make it to a round which isnt designated with a number. At the same time, I dont want it to affect our relegation battle (ive accepted we're there for the struggle now)

Burnley would get my outside bet to go the furthest. A cardiff - burnely final would be nice

mr snrub
10-27-2004, 05:49 PM
It would. Well for you it is still early days, and Rotherham are looking pretty done already, so I think you should re-assess the situation at Christmas or New Year and see what sort of position you are in because there is still a long way to go. This time last year Ipswich were near the bottom and they ended up in the play-offs (or thereabouts I think), so all you need is a good run and you are away from the drop-zone and can look towards mid-table or even a play-off spot.

Adam Jones is GOD
10-27-2004, 05:54 PM
We always seem to be lacking something in every game though, belief in one, then luck in the next, teamwork the game after, individual magic the next. I would be happy if we had sticked to the point a match routine we had, but now we cant even manage that. If we improve our home form and can get something on our travels at last before christmas, ther emay still be hope for a more respectable finish. But im pessamistic.

Btw, nice coincidence = Every time sky televises our games, we win.

Well at the moment a gooner's season ticket isn't too expensive, however, Spurs season tickets are the second most expensive in the Premiership after Chel$ki's

I think it's disgraceful how Mourinho has treated Mutu, he was looking for a reason to get rid of him and this is it, he even tried to stop Mutu going to counselling which would help Mutu's case in defence. Fair enough, he failed a drugs test and will probably get banned, but other instances have seen rehab favoured to a ban, the whole "no tolerance" thing from Mourinho is rubbish made to cover his tracks, he himself bends the rules to the limit if it suits him.

mr snrub
10-30-2004, 01:27 PM
They are now thinking of sueing him to make up for the wages according to the Daily Express. Arsenal need to sort themselves out. A draw against Southampton is a disgrace given how poor Soton have been this year. We will be embarrassed on tuesday against Panathanikos if we don't sort it out. Having said that, we almost won it with a free-kick right at the end. I heard that Ferdinand did the same to a Pompey player that he did to Ljunberg, but this time he got a yellow card and Pompey got a penalty (even though the Ljunberg challenge was out of the area). So next match when he commits a foul like that he should be sent off, as he got nothing the first time and a yellow the second. My other team Wolves really are a joke at the moment. We lost to Gillingham today who are second from bottom. And my home-town team Cambridge Utd are obviously going to be in the conference next year. We are second from bottom and in the drop-zone and all over the place. So this weekend has been very bad for my supported teams...

The team that drew with Arsenal at Highbury today had only a few changes from the team that narrowly beat Colchester at home. Things will pick up soon as the next few games are agaisnt West Brom, Norwich, Palace and the all important derby with Portsmouth. :thumb:

Last year I quite rated Southampton, and I thought they could push for Europe. This year, I'm not sure what has happened but they aren't the same. They have a good enough squad to be top-half at least. But that match against Colchester was awful... they were very lucky.

Yes that is very much true, and that will be a huge confidence booster for Palace, who are actually playing very well at the moment, but most people at the moment are recognising how Arsenal aren't playing to their full potential, not that their opposition are playing better. Same with the match against Southampton who played very well and probably deserved the win, but no-one really spoke of that very much, it was more concentrated on how Arsenal didn't and aren't playing well.

Arsenal won 5-4...that just about sums them up. Even when they concede four, the bastards just go and score 5!! I hate to say it, but I think we may have blown our chance of the title already. They're already so far ahead, along with Chelsea, that we really needed to win in the last few weeks to try and maintain any sort of pressure.

Yes but it has to be said that the Spurs defence was an absolute shambles, we handed 3 of their goals on a plate, Arsenal did their usual, high pressure pressing and breaking at pace, albeit not very well, and we gifted them 3 goals.

What a weekend! Arsenal win 5-4 in a thriller at white-hart lane (and yes I do agree about the standard of defending on both sides), Wolves start to win again, Histon Town, the village where I was born (outskirts of Cambridge incase you were wondering) and played football for my youth at get into the first round of the cup for the first time ever and then win the match against Shrewsbury to get into the secound round against either Darlington or Yeovil. Cambridge City, a local team, also go through for the first time and they play the MK Dons. The only downside for it was Cambridge Utd loosing, again, but I am use to it now.

However, Man Utd 1-0 up at half-time against Newcastle is starting to ruin it abit...

Today I saw Arsenal vs West Brom. It was the first time I had been to an Arsenal match this season, and quite honestly it wasn't worth the money. The people that I was sitting around were even saying that next week they would rather go see a cricket match than see Arsenal because at the moment they are playing dire. However it wouldn't appear that way. Arsenal kept the ball relatively well today, and seemed comfortable in defence, so I am struggling to find where the problem is. With the quality there is in attack it is hard to critise it, so everyone immediately goes to blame the defence, however today I thought that Cygan was looking very comfortable for hoe he usually plays, and infact was one of the best players wearing red. Although he missed the easiest header I have seen, he was controlling the defense well, and often helped to clear a dangerous situation unlike his usual crapness. I think the problem with Arsenal is their mentality. All we do is pass it about, and although we are good at it, we are not making anything about it. It seemed to me today that all we were doing was passing it, instead of looking to make a chance. The only player that I felt had the right attitude going forward was Freddie Ljunberg, who is playing well at the moment. Our goal came due to an error from WBA keeper Russel Hoult when he let an underpowered Robert Pires shot go through him. Apart from that, and an offside goal from Bergkamp, and Cygan's howler, there weren't many more chances for an Arsenal second. And although I commented on a good defensive performance, West Brom's equaliser was a disgrace. Great managing by Robson to take off an attacker and a midfielder and put on two attackers, one of whom Robert Earnshaw who got the equaliser which came from nothing as Greening kept the ball in play well and crossed low, and somehow Earnshaw got there ahead of 3 Arsenal players. It was met by the delight of the WBA supporters of whom I was seated near, and they drowned out our supporters for most of the match, infact all of the match when the score was level. I partically noticed their 'Highbury, a library' chant, and in my view and many other Gunner's fans view, the silence won't break until Arsenal start winning again.

I'd also like to thank Bolton for keeping us up there with Chelsea.

Why?

Let me enlighten you,

Elderly Wrexham chairman Pryce Griffiths sold his 78% shares to who he thinks is Mark Guterman (Took Wrexham's bitter rivals Chester City into administration), in fact Guterman was a frontman for Manchester property developer Alex Hamilton.

As Pryce Griffiths legacy to the club he secured a 125 year lease on the ground for £1 a year. Hamilton then bought the ground off Marstons brewary for £300,000 in the name of Wrexham AFC only to transfer it into the ownership of his own company for £1 five minutes later and put up the rent to £30,000 a year.

Since then Hamilton's plan has been to run the club down so much that liquidation is the only option for the club then maximise the assets (The Racecourse, Colliers Park Training Ground and Stansty Park) for property and walk away £20million richer. The club owe £800,000 to the inland revenue, they had issued an winding up petition against Wrexham Football Club, last week the remaining Wrexham directors applied for administration to try and save the club. Hamilton has already turned down 2 bids from the supporters trust, he is not interested in selling he just wants the land.

Players do it all the time, fair enough, it was a derby game but as he says, he was showing his support for Lennon who (along with O'Neill) was getting pelters from the players and support all match...

That's what I thought about West Ham a few years ago, but they still went down, which is a shame because I thought they were a decent side. I really can't see Birmingham staying up though, not enough quality in their side, especially without a proven goal-scorer, apart from Dwight Yorke, but he's past it now. I think Spurs are in a situation like West Ham last year. West Ham went down with alot of talent in their team, like DeFoe and Carrick (who have coincidentally gone to Spurs) and Cole, and Spurs have some great players but cannot seem to put it together. I cannot see them getting relegated, but I think their aim should to be to avoid it, because as you say, 6 straights losses isn't good by any means. Also 'Boro are a good team so it wouldn't suprise me if it was 7.

Liverpool v Arsenal today. Both sides rather injury struck although Liverpool more than Arsenal. We need to win to keep the pressure up on Chelsea who are looking pretty good at the moment.

iwillbearockstar
11-28-2004, 09:36 AM
I can see the West Ham comparison too. I know they say you never have too much talent to go down, but if we don't sort this mess out soon we will won't be going anywhere but div 1 - it's painful to see how much we've spent compared to teams like everton and villa, but just look at how well they've been doing.

Also I'm not sure what to think of Jol as the manager...sorry head coach, just yet but hopefully he can restore our defence to something like it was at the begining under Santini.

Edit : its 0-0 at the half, and Queudrue's been sent off...maybe we have a chance!

Have you seen/heard anything about the game at the Lane today, I listened to online commentary, we won 2-0, Defoe and a freak goal from Kanoute, 'Boro had Quederue sent off in the 40th minute (probably was only a yellow card) for a bad tackle on Paramot and from then on in it was plain sailing really, Kanoute's goal was weird, Schwarzer recieved a back pass and Kanoute was closing down, Schwarzer kicked it first time straight at Kanoute and it bounced off him and in the back of the net.

Carrick looked class today, more like the player we expected him to be, how could Santini have such a problem with signing him, Carrick and Davis (or van Bommel in January if you believe what's in the papers) in the middle is a great partnership, with Atouba and Davies on the wings, that's a great midfield.

On the Quederue card, I've heard it could have gone either way...it was a rash two-footed tackle and Paramot could have been seriously injured so I'm going to go with it was probably the right call.

Carrick is a class player, I knew he'd find his feet eventually, and the fact that Santini is gone now doesn't hurt his cause either. As for our midfield, van Bommel would be great, but we have a lot of good midfielders already, Mendes has been good for us, and I've also really been impressed by Ziegler so far.

One negative from todays game was Defoe getting booked for removing his shirt to celebrate his goal...that was a boneheaded move and now he's out for the match with Man City. He's a great player, but he should haven't known better.

I'm gonna moan and say Novo shouldn't have been playing after his performance last week, and seeing Boumsong's tackle this week compared to the Hearts player's sending off last week, Rangers should've finished with 10 men...

Another petty niggle... Rangers seemed to be built up as the underdogs against Hearts.... their midweek game was spoken of more on the tv compared to Hearts' game in Basle

Only a point though :) which is nothing in reality, as far as I'm concerned we're level.... Celtic need a whole new defense though.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but there's no way a team coached by Jose Mourinho is going to collapse and throw the league away, he simply won't allow it. For my money, the only way that Chelski doesn't win the league this year is a mass injury crisis.

woodsinho

It really would have to be a mass injury crisis too, they have such ridiculous strength in depth in all positions. That said don't count Arsenal out yet, they can't stay on the poor form they've had recently and the clash between the two in a week or two will be very important, if chelsea win that then they should win the title. hmm, one of them is phil neville though... he shouldn't count. I stand corrected, still Miller, Richardson, Eagles, Bellion are all just kids. I've never heard of most of the Arsenal team only Clichy, van Persie and Pennant. The average age of the outfield players is only 19 and half. Only Pennant and van Persie are older than me :(

:upset: its upsetting that a pretty much full-strength spurs side cans still lose to liverpool's reserves...with all the chances we had we should have won easily in regulation time, and then after defoe scored we should have won in extra time...what was kanoute thinking with that blatent handball in the area...and as if that wasn't enough we still can't beat a team with no fit strikers in penalties, bloody hell!!!

Phew, glad that Arsenal are back in business. My local giant killers Histon sadly got beaten today at the hands of Yeovil, and Cambridge City last night to MK Dons. Great performance from both though, as neither had made the cup previously.

Big match of the season next weekend, Arsenal v Chelsea. I think the outcome of that will give a pretty clear view of the rest of the season. Arsenal win; back on it and hopefully damaged Chelsea's confidence and open out the league again. Chelsea win; 8 clear of Arsenal and cruising to what could be their first Premiership title, unless they have a mega-bad run next year. Draw; it's still chase Chelsea, and some-one needs to beat them.

I don't understand why Wenger bicked that Allumini (sp?) guy ahead of Lehman. He gifted United the win midweek in the Carling Cup and apparently he was pretty nervous today and making mistakes.

BRIGHTON FANS HEADING FOR THE TOP 40 IN SUPPORT OF OUR NEW STADIUM AT FALMER!

‘The whole thing’s daft
We don’t know why
We have to laugh
Or else we’ll cry
Our ground’s too small
The costs too high
Without Falmer
Our club will die’

‘Tom Hark (We Want Falmer)’ by Seagulls Ska is currently at number one in the
Amazon.co.uk Hot Pre-Release Chart, above Cliff and Elvis, and number one best selling single at hmv.co.uk! It’s a rewrite of the Piranhas’ classic football hit by a bunch of ska-loving Brighton fans, reclaiming the song for the Piranhas’ home town with new lyrics supporting Brighton & Hove Albion’s four year campaign for our new stadium at Falmer. All profits from the single will go to our cash-strapped club’s Alive & Kicking Fund.

As you may know (if you’re really unlucky you may have been there!) the Albion are currently stuck at Withdean, a totally unsuitable 7000 capacity athletics ‘stadium’ - though we have a massive fan base and took 31,000 to Cardiff for our Play Off Final win last year.
The single is released on January 3rd on the Falmer For All label, manufactured and distributed by our main sponsors Skint Records. We aim to try and hit the Top 40 in the following week to gain extra publicity for our stadium campaign, one month before the public enquiry restarts....
We are asking everyone to help us by publicising our efforts and by pre-ordering the single now from the Amazon link below.

Bayern Munich v Arsenal

My predicted winners are all in bold, but it's weird how the draw turned out...three great ties, (the ones involving AC Milan, Chelsea, and Juventus), but other then that, the rest of the draw isn't that great. The quarter finals should be quite easy to call by and large, if teams like Liverpool, PSV, and Werder Bremen go through.
