West Ham were skanked today. Two wrong offside calls, one of which Ashton was about 3 yards onside for, and the other from which Ljungberg scored, cost them the match.

rustysurf84
09-29-2007, 03:09 PM
I've heard the offsides calls were marginal at best; and Green had a few saves that were class as well?

Britney Diva
09-29-2007, 03:16 PM
No, Ashton's was one of the worst decisions I've ever seen from a linesman. There were still two players playing him on two seconds later. The Ljungberg one was very marginal, but it was a perfectly timed run and it's the linesman's job to make those calls correctly.

Green played very well and made some fantastic saves, but he probably should have kept the ball out for the goal. He got to the ball fine but it needed a stronger hand.

I definetly remember taking Pederson out of my team and putting Elano in. For some reason it didn't work though which is pretty annoying as Pederson got 1 point and Elano got 10.

I got 58 points for the week though which isn't too shabby.

Yeah, was referring to the Lyon game this morning. Yeah, I was thinking something along those lines, and I'm guessing that's probably why.

Man U-Roma game was too early for me to wake for, but it looked really good. Lots of shots, lots of misses.

Alcohol advertisement is illegal, it might be just for sporting sponsors, I don't know, but it's not allowed.

When Wales play in France (rugby), they change their sponsor from "Brains" to "Braun"

I can't believe Rangers. 4 shots and 3 goals, whilst Lyon had something like 25 shots and hit the woodwork 3 times. Well done to them but I don't see them getting away with that again.

Chelsea losing 3-0 tomorrow?

Possible but I doubt it. I mean the Chelsea team has barely changed from last season, just becuase they've had a few bad games doesn't mean they're hopeless (and although Grant is no Mourinho I'm pretty sure he's sensible enough to know how to organise this Chelsea team).

Heck, if Kalou actually learnt how to finish and the powers-that-be realised that Sheva has become a parody of the player he was at Kyiv and Milan (as sad as that is) then they would probably be fine.

Britney Diva

I wouldn't read too much into Lyon's shot count. A lot of it was desperate shooting from 25 yards (I'd say half the shots were Juninho alone) and Rangers were easily the better team.

Oh. I didn't see the game, it just seemed to me that Rangers got lucky. I did hear that Juninho was basically playing by himself though so I guess it isn't that surprising, especially given that Lyon seem to have degenerated hugely from last season.

He's a very clever boy. Milan have cause to call for the match to be abandoned, which they probably wouldn't if he hadn't feigned near death. Celtic will be punished, and they certainly should be, but it depends on whether UEFA wants to abandon the match and award Milan a 3-0 win. Given the lunatic approach they usually take towards important decisions, I wouldn't be that surprised, but it'll probably be nothing more than a home-match ban for the rest of the tournament.

Ideally, Dida would receive a lengthy ban for his conduct, like that one Chilean goalkeeper, but it'd probably be too much to ask for UEFA to actually pretend to counteract cheating twice in the space of two years. If nothing else, he should be charged with impersonating a goalkeeper.

Celtic 2 - 1 Milan Milan's only goal was a dodgy pen.
Nah, it was a definite penalty. The guy had no reason to wrap his arms around him, considering the ball was going nowhere near either of them, but he did. My only complaint would be that just before the Celtic goal Nesta was doing the exact same thing and nobody batted an eyelid, but the referee in general seemed to be making decisions at random.

Edit: Milan won't ask for the result to be overturned, thank christ.

also best quote ever:

Celtic manager Gordon Strachan said: “I never seen anything. I’m like the fourth official, I never see anything at any time.”

Haha, the way Dida went down was jokes. He actually started to chase after the fan first and then decided he would go down a few seconds after. He looked like such a dick being stretchered off holding an ice pack to his face, when really all that happened was he got stroked on the neck.

Drogba's goal was sweet, Joe Coles through ball to set him up was delicious.

I hardly see how it's a mockery, what Dida did should be completely irrelevant to whatever punishment Celtic get (I'm not necessarily saying that anyone hear thinks that but it seems to be clouding a lot of people are letting it cloud their judgement). I'd say one game behind closed doors would be fine, and that punishment isn't really comparable to what Inter had - AC were given a 3-0 win and then the following 4 ECL games behind closed doors.

As for Dida, I hope he is banned for one game (or maybe a couple) for cheating, as I can't see how he was trying to do anything but get the game abandoned.

A foul isn't always a foul. Sometimes a foul will go unnoticed, other times it is noticed, and other times, fouls are called when there was no foul in sight.

It's not so much that they made two costly mistakes, it's that they made the exact same costly mistake in quick succession. Why Hyppia is barrelling out to header Carragher's ball (and missing it because he has too far to run) and leaving a big gap in the defence is beyond me. Why he did it again right after the first time is just incomprehensible.

Hyypia is useless.
Agger and Carragher are (usually) awesome.

Since Agger is still injured, we have to play Hyypia, and he ****s us around.

We also need Alonso back and in form. I hear from reasonable sources (a friend of Kewell's manager) that Kewell will be back in the next 2 or 3 weeks and that Benitez is desperate for him to play and stay at the club. I reckon England will win 3 or 4-0, seriously. It's Estonia at Wembley. The only thing we have to worry about is Robinson spilling the ball =p. as for the Russia game I'm predicting a 'binary' score, a draw or 1-0 win to either team.

Hey mate, yeah it's a right mess down there in SW6 innit. Chavram Grant. WHO??? Bring back Vialli I say.

I guess it's fair to say that Roman is too involved in the football side of things. But it's fking hard not to be - imagine if you'd just spent hundreds of millions of pounds on a club and players, and the gaffer is doing things totally differently to what you had hoped for. Bit of a mess... I dunno. All I can say is that Grant is not the long-term answer. If he stays for ages and gets results, great, but I can't see any of the clubs with the records that we are hoping to one day have hiring anyone like Grant. Still have my doubts. Bloody glad Robben's gone though, just need to get that tosser Ashley Cole out and we'll be sorted. Where ever The Special One goes, he'll get results.

Meh, the frist half was alright for England, but neither side particularly dominated. 2nd half it didn't look like we were trying at times and it looked as if we were playing for 1-0. As you'd expect Russia upped their game, outplayed us and then we were never getting back into it. Before Russia socred we missed a couple of sitters as well :/

It's funny seeing how biased pundits/analysts really are when it comes to England. hearing Jamie Redknapp say "he was offside but it doesn't matter" and the like when you know if it was Premier League game he'd be questioning the official made me realise he's bigger idiot than I already thought.

I can't believe Martin O'Neil said that Reo-Coker shouldn't of been red carded because "they were his only two fouls in the game".

Two bookable offences is still a red no matter how many fouls you commit.

But United were playing some awesome football yesterday, quick passing. Tevez had a blinder, poor guy deserved a goal.

I was genuinely worried when Villa took the lead, but the way we played, it was only a matter of time before we were back in the game. Granted the goals were gifts due to shocking defending, but you can't take away from the style of play to get into those positions to score.

Britney Diva
10-21-2007, 08:11 AM
Well I don't think Reo-Coker can complain, since you shouldn't be steaming into stupid tackles you have no chance of making while on a yellow card, especially when the guy on the other end is a Brazilian. Or Agbonlahor, let's be honest about it. I think the referee could have been a little bit lenient and given him a final warning since there was no malice in the tackle.

the problem with squad rotation is that he is doing too much too soon

you should have enough firepower on the pitch to beat teams like portsmouth, spurs, b'ham

but i do see the benefit in saving players for important games / games at the end of the season

there is just a limit to how much you can do and it is silly to molly coddle the players and put reserves out when lets be honest, for the 50k+ a week they get they should be able to run round a football pitch for 90 mins 3x a week!

I agree. It makes even less sense though when he rests them in premier league games and plays them in the carling cup like he did with Torres and I think, Gerrard a couple of weeks ago. They're not going to be able to play every game but there should be a spine that plays consistently.

Torres is miles ahead of anything else Liverpool have up front and should be played as much as possible. It's not like he's old and decrepit.

Yeah, Spurs just can't stop conceding goals.

So Dida's appeal was successful, two games down to one.

Doesn't really matter though, everyone knows he's an idiot now. That's punishment enough.

tbf everyone did already.

Now we know hes a complete fanny.

And he's a crap goalkeeper. No surprises here. UEFA manages to "punish" both Celtic and Milan without causing them any offence. It's lucky nobody actually has any faith in the organisation or there'd be some sort of backlash.

God, Lehmann is such a whiny prick. He hasn't really been close to world class for two years now. His quotes make me lol though.

Bonsoir. Confirmed I'm going to Newcastle v Arsenal and Chelsea v Sunderland Premiership matches in December, and CSKA v PSV Eindhoven in November is still a possiblity. And then the superclassico, Real - Barça is still on the cards. VAMOS!

On the squad rotation question - as talk show host said, there needs to be a spine. Look at the successful English teams of the recent seasons. L'Arsènal - Lehmann, Lauren, Toure, Campbell, Cole, Ljungberg, Silva, Vieira, Pires, Henry were basically starters every week. Chelsea's side for their two titles: Čech, Terry, Makélélé and Lampard basically played every week and every important game. Add to that Gallas, Carvalho, Duff + Robben and Drogba and you basically knew what the side would be at full-strength. Going further back, United's great sides were the same. And now United is similar, with van der Sar, Rio, Scholesy, Giggo, Ronaldo and Rooney all there if they are fit. Squad rotation in essence is fine and even necessary, but Rafael goes overboard with it, clearly. Reina, Carragher, Riise, Gerrard, Alonso and Torres should be playing 95% of games excluding Carling Cup and one or two Champo matches... and playing 90 minutes.

Chelsea on the way up, Lampard's back to form with two assists and Drog looks like he's going to keep on firing.

Should of watched the Arsenal game, though the United one was decent. Can't complain too much. Anderson was great.

Anderson was good but you have to remember he was basically playing against nobody. He worked tirelessly though.

Barca-Rangers game was a siege. Rangers played for the draw, Barca just had so much of the ball, 66% or so.

Henry sucks now.

Well, Arsenal have finally found that goal scoring touch. Walcott is one for the future.

ChodaBoy

To be honest, I wouldn't judge Walcott from that game, the keeper made an awful kick gifting Theo the first, and the second could have been blocked if the defender made a dive for the ball. Sparta were awful at the back looking at all of the goals.

Im not taking anything away from Arsenal as a whole btw. 7-0 is a great result

Walcott is really good though, as anyone can see from watching him play. He also has electrifying pace.

I cannot wait for Arsenal Liverpool. It's going to be such a challenge for Liverpool, but I'm hoping the boys come through in fine style.

Fabregas is truly the finest young player in the world at the moment. He was the first player I bought for my Fantasy Team.

Wish boro had a few players of his caliber atm :(

Fabregas has been by far the best player in the Premiership this season, in my eyes.

He's also been outstanding in Champion's League.

Does anyone know what happened to the Italian Man City player, Bianchi I think he was called. I remember him scoring against West Ham and I haven't really seen him since.

I guess I could ask the same about da Silva who I haven't seen much of.

rustysurf84
10-24-2007, 04:14 PM
da Silva seems like he won't fit into the Premiership, but he hasn't seen much action.

Lehmann really needs to shut up, and it would be complete justice if he doesn't see anymore action this year.

Thrilling match between Real Madrid and Olympiakos. Robinho was freaking awesome.

Yes! get in there! It's always good when we lose crucial away matches in the Champions League to mediocre Turkish teams! Hyypia is firing at the moment, 2 from the last 2.

I don't know how much more I can take of this rubbish. At least I'm not a Spurs supporter :/

Arsenal is so incredibly on form right now :/ it defies logic really; they lost their magicman and a bunch of kids are playing sexy football.. jeesus.

Hyypia's probably feeling like crap now. at least Gerrard looks decent. it sort of terrifies me not qualifying for knockout stages.
