Saw the Spurs/Sunderland game. Neither team deserved to win so I'd say it was quite harsh on Spurs. Looks like some of the other games were actually fairly entertaining though.

Heh, just watched Wolves v Watford, Wolves winning 1-0 up to around the 89th minute. They lost the game 2-1.

I've had to revamp my team -_- Removed Rooney, got Arsenals new striker, I expect him to score goals, plus it gave me extra money to strengthen midfield which is good.
Put McShane in temporarily, he'll be the bench warmer while Terry is fit, but like now he's in, I never considered him before, but seeing his MoM performance against Spurs inspired me to put him in, and reminded me it was a mistake for United to ever sell him to West Brom.

Disagreed. The free kick was amazing and was perfectly executed, there was no fluke to it. Also, I though Kuyt and Torres played brilliantly together, that will be a better partnership than Voronin.

Disagreed. The free kick was amazing and was perfectly executed, there was no fluke to it. Also, I though Kuyt and Torres played brilliantly together, that will be a better partnership than Voronin.yeah i agree the actual kick was great, i mean that the fact the decision was given was lucky, for both the liverpool free kick, and the aston villa pen, sometimes you get them your way, sometimes you dont, that day both teams got a good decision for them so they essentially cancel each other out.
i still dont agree with kuyt and torres, kuyt isnt an 'in the box' striker (there was a statistic last year saying he scored most of his goals from out the box) and torres doesnt have the clinical finish to put it in the net.
voronin on the other hand is a poacher.
i think if we can play with gerrard where kuyt is (deeper than the centre forwards) he can then play the balls through to torres who can get past defenders, which would leave voronin to poach the goals in (like pizzarios goal for chelsea against b'ham)
obviously that is a generalisation and it's not going to happen like that every time but I think that is a system that could work for liverpool

This deal with Alves just seems a bit crappy (again) since its Chelsea. They're paying £20m+ for this guy, and normally the more they pay for a player - the less impact he has. Bolton are a shambles at the back. I didn't think it was possible for them to be worse than they were under Sam, but that was only aesthetically bad. Now they're actually bad, too.

I predict a 3rd place finish this season, you can quote me on this at the end no matter where we finish. That's 3 games we've dominated possession wise, created many more chances than the opposition, but we've scored once, and even then drew the game.
I can see us turning it around, but if Chelsea win it's a 7 point gap already, hence the 3rd place estimate.

Exactly, beginning of the season I thought "We don't need an out and out goal scorer, I mean, Ronaldo, Nani, Rooney, Tevez, Scholes...that's a scary attack"
Our first three games have shown, sure we provide a constant threat, but we need someone to put the ball in the back of the net.
Watching the Chelsea Lpool game, Torres goal was nice, I still think United should of got him when they had the chance last season (or season before I forget)

Malouda seemed to dummy the ball and then ran into a Liverpool defender (I've already forgotten who, I think it was Agger though), and somewhere in his mind Rob Stiles (I believe he was the referee) decided that was a penalty.
The referee had an awful game all round, he managed to annoy players on both teams, but that was a particularly shocking decision.
He also clearly showed Essien two yellow cards but didn't send him off. He claimed he didn't actually book him in what was the alleged the first booking, though it clearly showed him looking at Essien and raising the yellow card at him.

It was Finnan. I think Malouda was just trying to shield the ball from Finnan and fell into him. He must have been as surprised as anyone to get the penalty.

08-20-2007, 07:52 AM
I don't see why referees don't exert their power more. I mean players crowding the referee is stupid, empose your authority, all you have to do is call the captain over before all the yellow cards are shown, in this case Terry, and simply say "You're in charge of your team, you talk to them, tell them to keep their heads, or I start booking people, and if this disent continues, or your players surround me again, I start sending people off."
Either it'd stop the disent, or if the players continue, start bookng and sending people off for disent, well within a referees rights, they don't have to accept the abuse they get.
i'm a Man U fan, but if Rooney mouthed off to me and I was ref (like you see him do constantly), I wouldn't hesitate to book or send him off. Players would think twice about doing it, knowing they'll actually be punished for it. The Refs in football have no backbone.
Bring back Colina.

Yeah, it's so typical of England. They close down for maybe 10 minutes at the start of the game and it works, but then they always just stop doing it and lose. And when they did try to attack, as soon as a German player took a step towards the ball they panicked and passed it backwards. It then inevitable gets back to Robinson who smashes the ball up the field. Everytime. I don't think i've EVER seen one of his long kicks actually get to an England player.

Micah Richards deserved to be in the team though. He was one of the few bright spots in a mediocre Man City team last year, playing very well. He has had nothing but praise for the start of this season, and the same last night. People like Keiron Dyer, who seem to get on the team because of the country on their birth certificate, shouldnt be on there. Liverpool drawing with Sunderland? Come on.
We're gonna flatten them.

They'll probably score one and sit back like they usually do.

Nah, not this season. There's a different attitude about the team it seems, we're looking a lot better than last season.
Torres is always gonna be on the lookout, Gerrard is never gonna stop trying to create goals, and we've just got so many people capable of scoring and creating goals.
Benayoun, Babel, Voronin, Gerrad, Torres, Riise, Kuyt, and lets not forget...
CROUCHOOOOOOOO :p

I dunno, I've seen Liverpool play twice this season. Both times they've taken the lead, eased off and been stung on both occasions.

Well against Chelsea they didn't stop that much, and were completely containing the threat of Chelsea until the atrocious penalty decision. Chelsea were so far off scoring.

Well Chelsea were stuffed until the referee's gift, but I don't think you did anything like trying to kill the game off after the first goal. Ben Haim had no idea how to deal with Torres, but Benitez never seems willing to go all out.

I think Sunderland will be the surprise package like Reading were last season. Their defence looks solid with McShane and Nosworthy, they had a blinder against Spurs, managed to pull it back against Birmingham and lost to Wigan (who are looking decent so far this season + two goals were pens).
I don't know, I just feel a shock is on the cards, they are at home as well don't forget. Though I'll probably be wrong, it's just a feeling.

I doubt they'll do what Reading did. They'll do OK, they have a solid defence and all, but up front they look a bit lost. Probably because they have about 15 strikers, none of whom can play with each other.
