Robben's the most injury-prone of the lot. Just his injuries don't last very long - he has brilliant recovery techniques.
Does it involve jumping on the ground every time somebody comes within 5 feet?

Ok guys I found out I have the Fox Soccer Channel, which is good because I've wanted to catch the Premiership for a few years now.

I've decided I want to support Everton. They've got an American in goal which is cool, and Tim Cahill is awesome to watch. I've also played with them in FIFA 06 and owned.

Other transfer news, Barton to Newcastle, he's having a medical. Though we already knew that. And WH offered 5.5 mil for him apparently.

I can only hope that this takeover at City does in fact happen. If this possible bid falls through, we are so screwed for next season.

No money
No manager
No attacking centre midfielder
1 decent striker
1 alright winger
And a lack of season ticket sales

NEVER!

But do you remember what he did against Japan in the World Cup? That is one of the best moments in my country's footballing history. For those two goals he will always be a legend of Australian football. LEGEND! He is pretty good really, he and Arteta is a pretty formidable central, attacking midfield force.

Reading lots of transfer stories, here's some of the best:

Dani Alves to either Chelsea, Milan or Real, apparently Chelsea have bid €24m, Milan €20, but it's still likely that he's going to end up at Real.

Liverpool are apparently ready to bid £40m for Sami Eto'o.

Florent Malouda is leaving Lyon, and Liverpool and Chelsea are possible destinations.

Gamst is being trailed by all the big clubs in England.

Ribéry to Bayern apparently.

So out of that, I'd be well happy if Robben left and we got both Malouda and Gamst, but one of them would be good too. We need a good wide player. Morten Gamst, I wouldn't mind getting him. I'd prefer him in our squad so much more than Robben it's not even funny.

And Boulahrouz to Bayern as well. Good. So we've got Alex now, apparently, he's better than Boulahrouz anyway. And if we get Alves, that'd be a sick defence:

Čech
Alves Carvalho Terry Bridge

Except stupid Ashley Cole will play ahead of Bridge. Mourinho says maybe three more signings, I'd say two more, one of which will be Alex, so one more probably. Although if Boulahrouz leaves we'll need another defender. Get Glen Johnson back - he can be our 4th-choice centre-back - and sign Alves, sell Ferriera. Squad's not looking too bad, but when you look at how United have strengthened compared to us... The other winger is our problem, Robben - shyte, SWP, not really up to the standard all the time but a good squad player. Our formation too :upset: Ballack, thumbs down. The formation's gotta be 4-3-3, with the defence I said up there, plus the midfield of Maka - Essien and Lamps, then with Joe Cole, Drog and one other up front. Not this midfield with Essien, Lamps and Ballack.

Beckham just has quality delivery but if you are very critical the estonian full backs were reluctant to actually close down and that was their downfall. Still, Beckham took advantage of that. I'm definately of the opinion he is world class, just a shame he was at a low in january and took the US option instead of playing on in europe.

regarding TV i heard that setana have a bigger chunk of the prem next season but I don't know exactly what that means, you only ever got 1 or 2 games a week on sky anyway, sometimes nothing if there was no 'interesting' games... Liverpool are making a channel anyway so I am just going to subscribe for that so long as they broadcast allllll the games

the england match was ok, the problem with being england is we have the reputation in our group of being the best, so all the other nations in our quali group are just going to put 10 men behind the ball and nick a goal on the break or at least try, with the exception of maybe croatia who might be brave enough to attack us.

But when your opponents play like that, that is why you have john terry and rio ferdinand up on the half way line passing the ball around slowly trying to draw them out and it doesnt work.

which is why we need peter crouch, he has alright ball skill and can head the ball down ok, his key strength is that even michael essien can be quoted as saying he struggles to know what to do when you are marking someone 6'7"

the only other alternative is to play like brazil and pass like crazy around the edge of their peno box but england dont have the skills for that lol

Well you are the top seeded team in the group so its fairly reasonable to say you have the best reputation. I honestly don't understand how England have done so badly in their group so far, if you're talking the ability of individual players, then they should be able to play any tactics they choose and beat these other teams. I mean, most of the England first team play week in week out first team football for some of the best teams in what is now the best league in the world, so its pretty shocking if they can't beat the likes of Macedonia. There seems to be a serious lack of drive, something that is just intolerable in a Scotland team, where attitude is everything, because realistically we will never have the most skilled footballers, so you have to expect 110% from everyone every game or they shouldn't be playing for their country.

I do think that England will turn it around and Scotland will just fall short, I still think its impressive how well we're doing with 3 teams who got to the quarter finals of the world cup and are all in top 11 of the admittedly flawed FIFA rankings system.

one of englands fundamental problems is mclaren has lampard playing as a holding centre midfielder against defensive teams.

in theory he should employ more of a diamond midfield to alllow gerrard to hold and lampard to attack

when hargreaves is back he then has further options of either

hargreaves holding, gerrard and lampard attacking, 2 wingers crossing to a target man (ideally crouch)

or maintain the 4-4-2 with a holding and attacking centre mid

personally when hargreaves comes back i would imagine gerrard will get the drop as hargreaves is purely a defensive midfielder, so he will probably be paired with the attacking lampard

at the moment with gerrard and lampard, gerrard has the versitility to go back and forth and has somehow masked lampards failings in the defensive side of being a central midfielder, whereas when hargreaves is back it doesnt matter because lampard just stays forward and hargreaves takes care of everything at the back.

Scottish football is on the up. I think scotland have a chance I wouldn't write them off. As for england of course we'll qualify. I hope Northern Ireland do too. Healy's just phenomenal for them.

I dunno about the UK, but Setanta have taken a substantial number of Premiership games from Sky in Ireland for next season.

If you don't have Foxtel here in Aus, basically the only football you get to see is Champions League, two live games a week. Foxtel now have all the rights to Australian national team matches, A-League (our national comp), Premier League, and on ESPN (which is a channel on Foxtel) they show Italian and Spanish and sometimes MLS and German and Dutch games. Foxtel also have the rights to all the live Wallabies matches (Rugby Union), and four live games of AFL (Australian football, the most popular sport in the country) out of eight per week. Without Fox, you really can't be a sport watcher. With it, your arse is parked on the couch way more than it should be. Thankfully, I fall in to the latter category.

Ribéry to Bayern for £17m. Good buy.

Yes, we had a poor season. But I congratulate you on finishing higher than a team plagued with injuries for the whole season and managed by someone who seemed far more concerned with having a positive outlook on life than managing a football team. This makes boro a better side, wait, no it doesn't.

We also had players like Owen and Ameobi out virtually the entire season, I wonder how well Boro would've done without, say, Viduka and Yakubu.

Wouldn't mind getting a 'keeper's shirt with Cudicini on it though, that'd be class.

Scored my first goal of the season today :) We lost though :( Ball fell to me in the box and I smashed it top corner. Scoring is good fun, I don't do it enough. Its a ****ing joke that any players get paid to play for the country, in the poorer countries I could understand, but when these players could be earning up to £140,000 in a week, they dont need more money when there would be thousands of the general public who would consider it an honour to play for their national team.

In the space of 20 seconds, Madrid scored to make it 2-2, and Espanyol scored against Barca to make it 2-2. Finished that way, so if Madrid win the last game of the season, the title is theirs.

Yeah, I got SkySports news on the in background.

I know he doesn't want to stab Galaxy in the back, but I think that due to the sheer amount of traveling from the US, and the fact that MLS isn't as good as La Liga in quality of competition, will result in him not being able to retain his current form that is required for international level.

It'd be the most expensive loan ever if he was. I doubt many clubs would be willing to pay his wages as a temporary player, LA are paying him so much money because of his merchandising power- I doubt a club taking him on loan would be able to make full use of that, certainly not enough to justify a large portion of his wages.

Spanish League is so awesome this year, what a finish. Same as the Dutch league, both leagues have been their most entertaining for some years. I want Real to win the league for some reason, now that Sevilla are out of the running. I normally am partial to Barcelona, what with Guddy playing for them, but yeah I want Real to win it after going four years without a thing.

Yes, I was saying beckham was too good for MLS back in January. Because quite frankly it's a rubbish league and I'm probably better than half the players in it at present. But I didn't care as at the time for England he'd played poorly in the world cup for England. He's playing well for Real now so I want him back now that he can justify his place.

Btw he quit as captain and wasn't 'ousted' this also occurred well before he signed for LA.

You guys have got no idea or you're just being ridiculously biased, or both, or you're just taking the piss. Probably the latter, but anyway, the MLS is actually quite a decent standard. From what I've watched and in my opinion, it's certainly comparable to some smaller European leagues, such as Belgium, Greece or - barring the Old Firm - Scotland. The standard is certainly better than League One, and probably comparable to, but less than the Championship. It's poor compared to the big European leagues, but really it's not too far down if you made a list of all the domestic leagues in the world. Anyway, who cares.

One of the youngsters Chelsea have just signed to our academy is a Czech goalkeeper, who is already as tall as Petr The Great. But get this, at his Czech club, he played as a striker as well as in goals. Now that is pretty cool. The next Chilavert, Barthez, Higuita?

EDIT: Plath, you crazy cat, that's gold.

Hey this is completely unrelated to the world game, but where I live it has been so unbelievably cold lately, I have a question for you peopolies who live in the top half of the world where it's well cold. Haha child sizes. Yeah I just bought a pair of the predators with the metal studs, they are normally the most expensive boot you can buy - about $300 here, which is like £130 - but I got them for $180, which is still a LOT of money for boots. BUT it is so hard to get non-molded boots here, even in the best stores there is like half a dozen pairs of boots with studs, and like 200 with moldeds. Anyway, they are sick boots.

So finally some good (better) news on the transfer front for Chelsea. Looks like Florent Malouda could be coming. I'd be pretty happy with this. Either he or Gamst-Pedersen, both would be top additions to the squad in an area we need some reinforcements. And at right-back, the talk of Alves has cooled but I read today about Miguel from Valencia, now this would be a very good move. I've rated him highly since Euro 2004. He is constantly picked ahead of Ferreira by Big Phil Scolari for the national team, that has to mean something, and he has been very good in the dozen or so Valencia games I saw last season. Either he or Alves would be great, then sell Ferreira, and get Johnson back as reserve and with Alex and Ben Haim in there, our defence is basicall sorted (provided we sell Boulahrouz...).

And the fact that they scored in the 89th minute pissed me off at first but then I read how they scored.

"With Taylor down injured inside the box the home side refused to kick the ball out of play and Ryan Donk headed a ball back across goal for Rigters to acrobatically volley home from close-range." (skysports)

Hahaha, Karma much?

RandyfromPennywise
06-20-2007, 08:20 PM
That's bs, I didn't see Taylor down in the box. Someone was down, I thought it was someone up the pitch. Taylor hurt his foot and was back on the goal line when the goal went in. Stupid English media bias bs.

I couldn't stay up any longer (4am) and went to bed at the end of normal time. Woulda been awesome to see a shoot out like that. Half the English team woulda missed the final anyway. Taylor's a good player, Reo-Cocker, not sure about him really, shows something at times, then other times he looks awful, but yeah there are some ok players coming through for England. Holland's youngsters looked pretty good, most people know Babel already, he's gonna be a star, and they had some decent midfield enforcers too. And they all seemed to have very nice footwork.

To be fair if taylor was too hurt he shouldn't of been on the pitch, the officials (eventually) got it right, if you're still on the pitch after extra time you have to take a penalty if it comes around to you. Taylor said it himself he was ready to take one but the 4th official messed up originally. Pearce also mentioned how he explained the rules to them because he knew he had to.

technically if he wanted to be an arse about it he could have just walked off the pitch (like you can when you get so injured in normal play) and said he was too injured to carry on so its a moot point

I don't think it'd be on a free, he's got a year left on his contract.

Really? All the reports i've read have suggested his contract is nearly out.

'Allardyce is hopeful of quickly concluding a deal for the 28-year-old, who is approaching the end of his contract at Chelsea and, will be available on a free transfer.'

And from a different source.

The Magpies are hopeful of securing the 28-year-old Cameroon international on a free transfer as he approaches the end of his four-year deal at Stamford Bridge.

heh i've got 6 tickets for the semis. i'm hoping that Australia do well enough to reach that stage, i'd love to catch a look at them.

we've got the champions youth cup coming here as well, 12 dollars per ticket and 2 games for each is a steal. malaysia has a football team of junk, but jeez we're getting some good teams over to play.

There are big rumours that Liverpool and Athletico have agreed a deal for Torres with Luis Garcia going the other way, which sounds good to me.

The_Passenger
06-29-2007, 05:29 AM
I don't really think that the Torres/Garcia deal is that great, I mean Garcia has had his problems with injuries but I feel he's done fairly well for Liverpool. I think it's odd that a club looking to move forward should be swapping good players for otehr good players, taht's just moving sideways.

Torres is a good player but I wouldn't be surprised if he's another Morientes...

I can't believe the Darren Bent deal. Tottenham are doing fine for strikers as it is, I just don't see why they need Bent, especially for £16.5 million. For that price he's almost certainyl going to displace Keane as Tottenham's other first choice striker, even though he and Berbatov have played wonderfully together.

the problem with Garcia is that he will provide something special about once every half a year so I'm quite happy to see a young up and coming on their way in whilst getting 4mil (or so is speculated) for a player who is 29 and in the last year of contract, i think its a good deal.

Apparently Tuesday is when Sheff United get the results from the whole West Ham thing.

I think West Ham should of been docked points, nothing to do with Sheff United here, it just so happens they would of been saved. But if you look at the punishment W.Ham got it's laughable.

Ok so they're found out doing something wrong, they get fined 5 million...but nothing changes, the whole matter of an illegal player playing for them carries on for the rest of the season. There is no punishment, because they still got to carry on the illegal act.

Atleast they should of stopped Tevez playing for West Ham aswell as the fine. Otherwise what's the point? 5 Mil and keep Tevez? While getting 20 mil for being in the prem + tv rights etc? Pretty sweet deal for West Ham.

This selection of people have pretty much done exactly what the original board did....

"Yeah we agree with you, it IS wrong, if it were us originally we would of docked points.....buuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuut....we're not going to do anything now... "

Just like the whole 5.5 Mil fine...

"Yeah Tevez is playing illegally...shame on you, have a massive fine for doing something we've recognised as wrong...buuuuuuuuut we'll allow you to carry on doing what you're doing even though we have just said it's illegal and wrong...."

I don't personally care for Sheff United....I just feel it's wrong that there seems to be no real punishment, even though it's recognised as being illegal, I mean why are they still allowed to play Tevez? They said it was an illegal transfer....I don't get it.

The contract irregularities were ironed out, he was legal afterwards. The original decision was pretty clear: had West Ham not been taken over by an entirely new administration, they would have been docked points, but it would be unfair to heap that responsibility on the new owners. The latest panel said there was nothing irrational or unfair about that decision.

Funnily enough, had Sheffield United stayed up they could have faced a challenge from Wigan, since they've been accused of third-party interference in the Steve Kadda transfer.

poorquality
07-03-2007, 07:59 PM
Surely it's unfair to heap the pressure of Championship football on Sheffield United then. The people who buy the club get everything that comes with the club, they shouldn't of been lenient about it just because they were afraid of upsetting the new owners with such a burden.

But fair enough if he was legal afterwards then (about him continuing playing), they should still of been properly punished for the original wrongdoing despite new owners or anything like that.

My opinion anyway.

Surely it's unfair to heap the pressure of Championship football on Sheffield United then.
Well they should have beaten Wigan then. The contract irregularity wasn't one which benefitted West Ham at all- from the looks of it, with Tevez being left out for half the season, the third party didn't exert any influence over team selection, and if they had it would have been to the detriment of the side. Sure, the regulations say they could be deducted points, but the panel used their discretion not to overreact like that. Sheffield United were relegated because they're a Championship side and it's extremely unlikely they'll be promoted again next year.

poorquality
07-05-2007, 05:16 AM
I doubt they will either, but I don't like talking about this issue in regards with Sheff Utd because it always seems like I'm trying to defend them...when to be honest, neither team deserve to be in the Prem this season coming.

I think it's highly unlikely W.Ham would of avoided the drop without Tevez. Sure they didn't play him under the old manager but that was their loss in the end wasn't it, they play him, they started winning. It's fair to say he kept them up.

I dunno, even with Tevez gone they built something in the last part of the season that was genuinely promising. They have all that Icelandic money obviously, and Neill and Upson are top-class defenders, which will hopefully solidify what was the Premiership's most woeful defence.

I can't see Wigan staying up next year, they're an appalling team and unless they get a massive cash injection, they're ****ed. Paul Jewell saw the writing on the wall, I reckon. Derby will struggle, I think, and Fulham will probably join them in relegation. I doubt any of the three relegated this year will return to the Premiership. Charlton seem the most likely, but they've only got half a team really. Wolves, West Brom and Preston/Southampton for promotion, I predict.

Minus The Flair
07-06-2007, 05:15 PM
Looks like we're very close to signing Tevez now, if we needed to sign anyone this window, it should of been strikers. But also it looks like we might sell Rossi, which is not cool. I could of seen him being a great replacement for Solskjaer as a super-sub, and Smith's also probably on his way out. Which means a highly injury prone Saha, a pretty much had it Solskjaer, a Rooney and maybe a Tevez. Are Anderson and/or Nani strikers or wingers? I can't remember.
