I know...It would be an excellent signing for us, he's someone I rate very highly.
Okay, to move attention away from the world cup...what signings would you like your club to realistically make over the summer?
Mine for United are;
In-
Michael Carrick-Spurs-£12m
Juan Roman Requilme-Villarreal-£14m
Fernando Torres-Athletico Madrid-£18m
Out-
Luis Saha-£8m

Douala £2m
Out -

Riquelme: Try £24 million, at least, I'd say.
For Chelsovic:
In:
Shevchenko £30m
Kalou £4m
Ballack for nothing except a lot of wages
Adriano £55m
Ronaldinho £80m
Mancini £10m
Out:
Huth £2m to Boro
C. Cole £2m to Spurs
Robben £20m to Real or somewhere
Glen Johnson £5m to Lyon
Ballack £20m to United

Which is crap. He's worth probably much more around the figure you suggest
RandyfromPennywise
06-11-2006, 03:34 PM
I heard you already had a bid of around £10m rejected just before the Champo semis for Juan Roman.
If you were going to get either he or Carrick, it's interesting to analyse how signing one or the other would alter your tactics. If you signed Riquelme, I'd say that you'd play Roon + 1 up front with Riquelme in behind, which then makes Cristiano's position interesting, because if you were to play with him wide on the right that means there's only two midfield positions left... Or maybe Fergie would play Riquelme deeper, but I'd advise against that. On the other hand, if you signed Carrick, he'd obviously play deeper in the centre, and your formation would be pretty much the same as this year, with Carrick playing the O'Shea position... So all in all signing Riquelme would potentially be more of a risk, but at the same time has the potential to really change the team in a positive way and have a big impact. The Carrick signing would be more of a case of 'what we have we hold', in essence Fergie would be saying he believes his team is fundamentally good enough and not in need of drastic reshuffle. Interesting to see what happens.

I believe the man when he says he loves the club and wants to stay.
He won't leave unless Fergie forces him out, which he seems to be doing.
I have no idea why, unless they have a secret bid lined up for someone amazingly talented, and for me, there's not many people in the world better than him, there is no possible reason to keep him out of the side.
And in my team before, rotate Scholes with the two behind Ruud.
I would really rather Ruud stayed than pretty much anyone else came.
RandyfromPennywise
06-12-2006, 02:34 AM
Torres is nowhere near as good as RvN. He's good but he is not world-class, which Ruud obviously is and has been for some years now.
Lord - that formation's pretty decent, it's pretty flexible as well, because if Giggo and Ronnie went out wide, Riquelme could drop back into the centre so you could quite easily adapt between using wingers and wide-men to focussing everything through the centre with Juan Roman.
But meh, you probably won't sign either in all honesty.

Ah man, what happened to Japan! They had a lot of good chances but as you once said, midfield is great, defence and strikers are average. That was demonstrated today and it cost them. I felt sorry for Japan, I hoped they would do well this year (no offence to the aussies at all, full credit to 'em).

Australia were able to make that comeback for 3 reasons:
1) Japan arent that good.
2) They were more determined to make an impact in the WC.
and most importantly...
3) Guus Hiddink is ther manager.

Eeesshhh its a shame my Football Manager thread in Media didn't take off really. Although I could revive it or remake one hmmmmm.
Ah man I posted this massive post in that thread and as I hit post you know my connection failed and when I pressed back it was all gone. The long story cut short is the post was about my historic Champions League semi-final win against Arsenal (with Chelsea), 5-5 on aggregate, 4-4 in the second leg, we won on away goals. The most amazing game I've ever seen on FM. We went 2-0 down in the second leg after an Henry double, after 20 minutes. Me being the astute tactictician that I am :p immediately took off Wayne Bridge for Gudjohnsen. Pulled it back to 2-2 at the half. Arsenal romped away to a 4-2 lead within ten minutes of half-time, so I was making changes every couple of minutes to try and get somethig. Nothing. So I went all-out attack, and Lampard being the hero he is pulled one back on 88 minutes from a Gudjohnsen through-ball. With no hope left I went to 5 strikers, throwing big John Terry up to centre-forward. On 93 minutes, a quick interchange of passes in the midfield saw Lampard play in Gudjohnsen and a magnificent diagonal run from Crespo was rewarded with a fine pass from Gudjohnsen and Hernan found acres of space in the Arsenal box AND SLOTS HOME FOR THE WINNER IN THE DYING MOMENTS OF THE GAME AT HIGHBURY GOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAALLLLLL!!!! 4-4, we went through to the final on away goals and beat Bayern to complete the quintruple (Charity Shield, Prem, League Cup, FA Cup and Champo.) The champo semi was my best ever game on FM. I saved the game and have watched it a couple of times since, oh the memories!
The game I've been playing recently has been with Halifax, just got them up to the Championship, spent two seasons in Conference then went up to League Two, first season went up to League One and first season there we got promoted to the Championship. Got this gun Brazilian Taianan, absolute class. But I haven't been able to play for the last few weeks with Uni being so hectic, but when semester finishes (next Wed) I'll be back to it. It'll be total football then: FM during the day and World Cup during the night!
Well that story was probably about as long as the other one really  Hope this actually posts this time!
And I got my new Australia kit today with BRESCIANO 23 on it, absolute quali'y, cost a pretty penny though but after last night who cares!

5 Live Premier League games,
3 or 4 Live La Liga Games
2 Live Serie A Games (but these are always Treviso or Livorno :upset: )
1 Live Dutch Game
Then with A-League we get 4 of those live, and Champo we get 8 a week in the group stage, and normally 2 FA Cup games per round in the early stages.

I read £20 to £25 million today. If they sign him plus the centre-mid they've been needing to sign for 3 or 4 years, they could really push us next season.
Rooney, Ronaldo, Torres - three of the best young attacking players going around, that'd be a feared combo for any team, and if Ruud stays it could be lethal.

No chance of that mate. That was punishment for me as it was one of the only games for about four years that I haven't watched, as I was on the plane back from London. So that won't happen this time, and I'll be watching us beat the Boro, with Sheva scoring a double past Huthy.

No it's ridiculous, where I live (Perth), has a population of roughly 1.4 million people, but our biggest stadium is of low quality and seats 39,000 people.
Whereas some of the stadiums in Germany have much less people and much bigger stadiums.
Aside from in Perth, we have good stadiums in Melbourne, Brisbane and Sydney, so we only really have 3 stadiums suitable for the job.

when are England meant to be applying? I thought it was 2018, so perhaps the Oz apply in the Asia slot
The host country for the 2014 World Cup (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2014_FIFA_World_Cup), which FIFA has earmarked for South America (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/South_America), will be named in 2008. The expected choice is Brazil (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brazil) since CSF, the South American Football Federation, has already indicated their preference[6] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FIFA_World_Cup_hosts#_note-4). Chile and Argentina had shown some interest, hoping to follow the same path as Korea-Japan 2002. Also Australia might bid for the 2014 World Cup, and has the support of the government and fans, yet is unlikely. Several nations have expressed interest in hosting the 2018 World Cup (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2018_FIFA_World_Cup). However, FIFA has not decided which continent will host either tournament,[7] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FIFA_World_Cup_hosts#_note-5) as they have indicated they might back out of the rotation. Thus it is possible that the 2014 FIFA World Cup may not be held in South America (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/South_America) (though a bid from the continent is a "strong favorite").
An England (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/England)-hosted or a combined United Kingdom (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_Kingdom) tournament is a strong possibility for the 2018 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2018) World Cup.

A perfect example would be COMS, Maine Road used to be a loud place to be in, with a great atmosphere.
But now, at COMS, because of the "modern design" its so open and takes almost the entire crowd to generate some decent noise.

I mean they did play 12m for him. Oh ****, yeah, I completely forgot about the Premiership. United for the title
I hope ballack does well in chelsea and that they get lahm aswell.
we need to get more players into foreign clubs
klose will leave bremen probably aswell and I doubt that odonkor will spend so much time on the bench in dortmund next season

Odonkor, Lahm, Ballack and Klose have been really great this tournament. And they're all German, I'd like it if one of them came to United. We are obviously going to need a new winger and striker, after Roanldo and v.Nistelrooy

I don't see why he didn't just take Defoe instead of Walcott, I only saw Theo play for like 15 minutes I think, and England could've really used Defoe against Portugal after Wayne got himself sent off.

Beckham was clearly upset, he was nearly crying as he read his speech to the press. Then when he had finished he just walked off, clearly holding back the tears till behind the scenes

But Ronaldo set out to wind him up, Ronaldo didn't accidentally wind him up, he actually said before the game that that was his mission or some ****, hence the headbutt before kick off. Or thats what I read
There's nothing wrong with that. It happens all the time with Rooney. Players know he can snap, so they try to wind him up, and who better to get under his skin than his own team-mate? Well done Ronaldo. He had a job, and he done it.
Pity that'll be him on his way out of United though :(
And in regard to the England captaincy, it's gotta be John Terry. He'll actually be able to motivate your players before a match.

Yeah, it was really sad to watch, he paused a couple times and his voice went shaky a couple times. I think he's had his ups and downs but overall, he's been a good captain.
I personally think it'll be Gerrard or Terry as the new captain. Tbh, they're the only ones likely to. I reckon McLaren will chose Terry, Gerrard didn't really perform at the WC whereas Terry worked hard throughout. He deserves a reward.
As for Manchester United, Van Nistelrooy could stay if Ronaldo is sold off, those two hate each other. Chances are, they'll both be gone.

Man Ronaldo's really being ripped to shreds:
Cristiano Ronaldo (born 16th "God-Knows-What-Month", "****-Knows-What-Year in Diveland) is a professional diver and part-time midfielder for Manchester United and Portugal and shouldn't be mistaken for the Real Madrid player, Ronaldo.
Cristiano was discovered by manager Alex Ferguson (...Although we don't know what Alex discovered him doing) in the summer of 2003. Ronaldo impressed his manager after winning free kick after free kick by pissing off opposing defenders with the same trick (Stepover) over and over again (approx. 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,002 times in one attacking move), he also scored a few goals but nobody really cared about them. Ronaldo isn't the only diver at his club, his team-mate Ruud Van Nistelrooy is by far worser then the Portugese youngster.
"Professional" Cheater Ronaldo caused England to lose in the world cup of 2006 because of his wanking diving habits distracting his opponents. He also winked at his teammate, Wankshaft, like a gay idiot after getting his then club teammate, Rooney, sent off. He pretended to look like the 'balls' when he scored the winning penalty, after the Portugese goalkeeper, **** Face, pretended that he wasn't ready after Jamie Carragher scored against him.

Well I meant in relation to the crowding round the referee yesterday. I think Utd are one of the better teams regarding diving, and even Ronaldo has cleaned up his act the last couple of years. What I meant is Ronaldo's influencing the referee last night is exactly what Ferguson's team has mastered and it would kind of hypocritical to criticise him for it when it goes on every week at the club.
Non english players as a whole dive, its the just how they play football.
Michael Owen and Ashley Cole are persistent divers, but in general it's not something English players like to do.
I have a funny story regarding the different cultures regarding diving. When Ireland played Spain in the last world cup, we won two penalties. The first was won by Duff, he ran in to the box and basically dived to win a penalty by leaving a trailing leg in the defender's path. The second penalty was in the dying seconds, when Hierro practically pulled Quinn's shirt off his back, what we'd consider a clear foul.
The Spanish saw it differently though. They didn't contest the Duff decision at all because it's considered legitimate there, but Hierro's manhandling the forward was so commonplace to them they thought it was a terrible decision.
Lord Abortion

That's quite funny, and I get your point about the United situation, I don't see the card-waving thing going on though. However, I don't see many games, or any at all that aren't cup or champions league ones, because MOTD doesn't put every little incident on the highlights, and I don't have digital TV, so I could be missing it.
I always laugh when I see Ashley Cole doing it, he's a left back, why the hell should he be diving?
He shouldn't anyway, but still...
Britney Diva
07-02-2006, 03:16 PM
I always laugh when Cole gets booked for diving because it's usually right outside his own box and he gives away an unnecessary goalscoring chance and can't risk tackling anyone for the rest of the night. Gallas is my favourite idiot diving full-back though. He takes the most blatant dives then picks a fight with some innocent bystander on the other team when it doesn't go his way.
