I was at practice last night and our centre half Damo has a 1st touch like a donkey so i was calling him Colin Hendry (remeber him?). Then the gaffer said do you remeber the Badiel and Skinner sketch when they rapped cling film around Skinners face to push his nose down then slapped a long blonde wig on him to make him look like Hendry. Hahahaha good times.

England for the WC anyone? We have a better chance than anyone i think.

England have a chance, it all depends on injuries and how we play at the time. Brazil are definately the team to beat at the moment though.

True but i do believe we are defo the team to beat in competion i mean we have class all over the pitch. Just abit worried about who is going to play left back since Cole and Bridge have hardly played this season. I personally would put Carragher in there.

I'm pretty sure Brazil will win it.

They've just got so many quality players.

It's an area where Brazil will dismantle any other team, especially England, the Substitute bench.

We can all pretty much guess a starting 11 for England right? Try naming a quality second 11, a team which if needed could take England the distance...I know I can't..we don't have a better right back than Neville, a better strikeforce than Rooney and Owen, Our central midfield is irreplacable. It's impossible, I dont have faith enough in our possible replacements to believe England stand a chance if injuries hit.

Brazil on the other hand, substitute class with more class, their bench would get into most premiership teams first 11 no problem, it's an area where they beat us.

That's why I feel, if we have a couple of major injuries in the world cup, we can kiss it goodbye.

Frankie
04-13-2006, 11:58 AM
For chriist sake you look at the starting 11, how many of them have been injured in the past season (apart from owen). We do have a better RB than Neville. Youngs been playing well for charlton. Carrick and King would be an ok midfield. For the Wings well SWP has got pace and Downing is back to playing well (some superb crosses from him last night).

poorquality
04-13-2006, 01:28 PM
There ya go, playing well recently, an 'ok' midfield, SWP hasn't exactly performed exceptionally well recently (when he's been played_, Downing has hit some form but you really think he can deal with this level of football and be consistant?

Our second 11 would be an average 11, if we played them, Brazil, Argentina, Spain, Portugal, Sweden etc etc would all beat us.

If players like Robinson, Neville, Cole (well he is), Lampard, Gerrard, or Rooney were injured I wouldn't have too much faith in James, Young, Carrick, King or Crouch really, I can't see us scoring goals with that midfield/strike force, and while James makes some remarkable saves occasionally, I dont think he is very consistant.

Frankie
04-13-2006, 01:51 PM
Young if hes fit is better than Nev in my opinion.

The papers today are reporting that McLaren's going to be the next England manager, which I think is a horrible choice. I would have put Sam Allardyce, Luis Scolari and Martin O'Neill ahead of him, and I can't avoid thinking that he's got the job based on a recent good run of form, as opposed to what he's actually achieved at Middlesborough. Scolari is a tried and tested trophy winner, Martin O'Neill did a great job both at Leicster and at Celtic, and I have a huge amount of respect for Allardyce that I really don't have for McLaren at all. Poor choice in my opinion.
Well the papers will have reported that everybody has the job by the time the position has been filled. I wouldn't take this report any more seriously than the others.

Spurs went down, which is a shame cos now 'Pool have no hope of 2nd. Great game though, Rooney's second was shameful on Lee's part I think it was, and RVN was very unlucky not to score again when he hit the post, but Spurs killed them on possession, which again means nothing if you can't do anything with it.

Lord Abortion

Yeah, we were defensively excellent, Vidic and Rio were very very good, although they got mixed up slightly for Jenas' goal, Vidic won everything he went for, and Rio was cool, calm and controlled as per.

Ruud, on another day, would have had a couple himslef, he hit the post, and Dawson made one of the best off-the-line clearences I have ever seen.

Just got back from my mate's where he had it on...not often I see a United game due to my lack of Sky and he was going out, so I had to leave with about 10 minutes to go...thankful I am for my pocket Radio!

If (big IF) Arsenal make it to the final, they will not be able to beat either Barca or Milan. They just simply don't have the quality to compete with these two teams.

It's pretty hard to resist the Brazillian attack.

The way they've been taught to move and pass the ball is amazing, and for players like Ronaldinho, Ronaldo, Robinho, Juninho, and Roberto Carlos, dribbling past a few players wouldn't be too hard.

Essentially, my point is: There's no defence in the world good enough to stop Brazil from doing what they want.

how is that racism? seems like when i think of divers I think C. Ronaldo, Drogba, Guidjohnson, Robben,.
It's ****ing Gudjohnsen and he's not a ****ing diver, he's one of the most gifted players in the league. And he's never played in Spain.

I've never seen Rooney go down that easyWhat about when he dived against Arsenal when Sol Campbell cut in front of him but didn't touch him and he won a penalty? That was a dive.

Champions League - Barcalona - just too good, were unlucky last yearNo, they were not good enough.
rasping deflected 30-yarder from Lampard*Mate, Lamps' got the best long shot in the Premier League. Name me one midfielder who has scored 15 league goals in one of the big three leagues. No one's ever done it in the Prem apart from Super Frank, give the man some fking props people.

we can beat them at the Bridge! No you can't

AFL > every other sport considered football. Now go back to your sheltered little country called Australia and don't poke your head out again.

and rooney being in goal...apparently he likes going in goal in training and is actually pretty goodYeah John Terry loves to dive around at Chelsea training, he's not bad, but Glen Johnson's the really good outfielder-as-a-'keeper. He actually played in goal last season for about 8 minutes or so against Newcastle, at St James's, not a bad debut as a 'keeper! (Carlo got sent off and Mourinho had used all the subs at half-time... After Bridgey got injured we had ten and then with the red we played the last 10 with 9!)

Were going to get you one way or the other (other meaning next season lol)Well about next season, I'd say it's going to be closer than ever... Whether Chelsea will win the title or not I actually think will depend heavily on who we buy. Mourinho's said he wants three big names, and Ballack is 99% ours, so two more. I think if we make the right signings we will win it again, however if we get a little complacent and don't change things up I think we could get a bit of a shock. We've shown this season that we can be broken down and moreover, Mourniho certainly can be out thought. Rijkaard out-thought him in the Champo undeniably, so I think next season's EPL will be great!

Yes, I can pass Friday's game without worry.

Easiest game of the season!I'm not even going to say a word. :)

Carra should be starting centre back, he's the best and most consistent in the country (not my country) by far. Ah John Terry shits on Jamie Carragher every and any day of the week, especially on match days when he fits a **** into his pre-match routine.

Jimmy Bullard better than Joe Cole, or even Morten Gamst-Pedersen? Excuse me, but no chance!

Dan, you used to be coolWell after that comment I'm inclined to think the same...

And GET IN tonight boys, stick it up them dirty Scousers! C'Mon The Chels! And Australia for the World Cup, Bresciano will score 13 goals in the tournament just like Fontaine wasn't it? Well whatever the record is, Bresciano will equal it. :thumb:

Just about to go play my first game of the season, we are playing the best team in the comp... My prediction - we will get pumped 11-0! Hopefully I can at least put in a few good tackles and have one shot at goal from +30 yards. I will be so cained after, pre-season hasn't been too demanding if you get my drift!

Ciao!

I actually think he's pretty overrated as a player really. He pretty much has this free role as an attacking midfielder, greatly benefitted by the fact that normally there are two other midfielders sitting behind him waiting to mop up any opposing threat; one of these being makelele who is arguably the best defensive midfielder in the world.
Quite often i see him drifting in and out of games, and he never completely controls the midfield IMO, despite what the media and dodgy MOTD pundits will say.
Granted he has a pretty good shot, but to me that doesn't justify him coming second in the PFA awards. I think he's a good player that does his job well, and he has only missed something like 1 game in the last 300, which is pretty amazing. I just don't think he's that great to be honest.

Read This is you havent already (http://home.skysports.com/list.asp?hlid=381494&CPID=8&clid=8&lid=2&title=Makelele:+Fergie+is+a+loser)

What an idiot :S "''It took Ferguson seven years to win the league, it took Mourinho eight months,'' he concluded."

For one thing Fergie didn't have a multi billionaire to scrounge cash off of whenever he felt the need, if you recall we won it with players we brought through our youth system, such a thing is unheard of nowadays at Chelsea, they dont believe in youth. Man U and Arsenal are both building on youth players at the moment, Chelsea just buy world class players because they can :S so i think it's a bit unfair to compare that part of Fergies career with Mourinho's (Mourinho's had it alot easier, all he's had to do it make a shortlist and Abramovich (sp?) would buy them for him).

"''Chelsea are not arrogant. Arrogance is to go public and say another team will lose and then lose yourself."

Arrogance - overbearing pride evidenced by a superior manner toward inferiors

That sums chelsea up in a sentance in my book.

Sorry for the rant, Makelele is normally a quiet person, should of remained it, in my view he's just made himself and Chelsea out to be even more arrogant than before plus made himself look like an idiot.

Meh I'm sure other people would have different opinions on this...so...I'm not trying to start an argument or anything, but what are your views.

Well being a Gunner, I'm very chuffed we made it. I can't defend our performance tonight, it was shoddy and the passing was so sloppy.

However, I did think the Villarreal players were a bit dirty with their dives and bullying tactics (i.e. Alvarez on Ljungberg + Henry) *ignores Pires diving jokes* and the penalty was so harsh on Clichy. Jens pulled off a good save though. I was surprised they didn't score though, Guill Franco could have done so a few times and Forlan missed a good chance.

See thats bs right there, whats the point of linesman then, hell I'll be a linesman if it means running the line and doing nothing else. I'm sure its not just Rennie who enforces that outlook.

I've seen many matches where the linesmans decision (or lack thereof) has cost a team a match, for Instance Scholes' goal against Porto, ruled offside, blatently not. It seems to happen all the time.

Alright alright, I suppose with offsides, you can cut them some slack, I mean they see it once and have to notice where the player who's passing the ball AND the recieving player are to notice when the balls played and the recievers position at that exact moment, not easy. We get to see a replay over and over so we get angry when they make the wrong choices :P.

But it's the other decisions like blatent fouls/dives that happen so close to them they are almost involved, yet they do nothing. No wonder players get angry at them

I hope Arsenal lose, either way it should be a very interesting final.

I thought the Barca Milan game was pretty boring. Goalless draws as a whole are very unsatisfying.

I bet you do, because if we win you're out of the Champions League

Really? I didn't know that was how it worked.

Yeah, they changed it because of the situation with Liverpool finishing fifth in the league last year. They wouldn't have been able to defend their trophy otherwise.

So the rule was created that if the winners don't qualify automatically for the Champs League for the next season through league position then the lowest ranked team in a Champs League spot drops out to make way for the tournaments winners to defend the trophy

Kind of gutting really, because I think the premiership is more of a challenge than the champs league. You play the best in the country twice each and you need to win atop a league, the Champs League turns into a knockout competition, any team with a bit of luck can scrape through a knockout round.

Which is why I personally feel that if you don't earn a place through the right qualification in your league, then you don't deserve to be involved.

That's just my view, i'm sure others will disagree.

Well, he beats the **** out of all the other candidates in my opinion. Never really fancied any of those other blokes in contention for the job.

Apparently, Football Australia is trying to hook Gerard Houllier when Guus leaves after the World Cup.

I think that they should just do whatever they did this year. If you win the Champion's League, you should absolutely have the right to try and retain the trophy, not least because winning the thing is incredibly difficult. But then again, over the course of a league season, it's incredibly harsh to displace a side that would otherwise make the Champions League. I can't actually remember what they did this year to fit both Liverpool and Everton in, but they should have kept that system.

To fit them both in I believe they took another team out from a league which isn't too well know, I think that's right anyway, so no one complains apart from that team and no one listens because people just think "Well it's not like they had a chance of getting past the group stage".

UEFA told them never to let it happen again.

Scolari's the best choice. I wanted O'Neill to begin with, but if I thought that Scolari was actually properly interested in the job, he would have been my pick for sure.
I dunno, he's had plenty of success yeah, but I don't think I'd be too happy about a manager who appears so ready to leave his own job for an increased pay package. Then again, he may not see the point in leaving everything he's done at Portugal to start afresh in England, especially as he has little knowledge of the English game or the language.
