Yeah, I don't too much care about people insulting my football team, but when people make stupidly gay stereotypes like, "Uhh, you're stupid! You're on the dole!", I kinda feel dissapointed.

This is the Official "Football Thread" after all, not the Official "Be A Gay and Perpetuate Stereotypes that Largely aren't True anymore" thread.

Yeah I agree I've gotten a lot of stick from the geordies over the boro's sitaution. And even someone on her commenting on the supposed "smog" around tesside. It really ain't thay bad.

He should of been sacked after the debacle that was the Ireland game. Hes been disrespectful to the FA and Premiership teams in general.

Also I'd like to have a lil go at the premiership and its sorry state. I heard about this story soem while ago, that at the riveside a group of fans were chucked out for and I quote "for being overly vocal of the team and standing". Basicaly singing and standing up. The same happenend to a group of Geordies for singing stand up if you love the toon. It would seem that stewards and the police aren't gonna be happy until games are viewed in silence. Theres no atmosphere in football anymore. I've also heard about this sort of thing happening up and down the country. And the FA wonders why attendances are falling.

Chelsea's record losses of £144million in a year display their utter uselessness for football. There is no point to their club, no point to their success if they are continually bank rolled by Ambramovich.

Hiddink to be new England coach. What do you guys think?

Possible, but not conclusive for 2 reasons.
1. Sven said it, not the Fa (but I may be wrong, I havent read the article)
2. Its in the Sun, which isnt always known for their accuracy.

the Sun is bollocks. It's reported Sven said it to a couple at a dinner in Stockholm, right?

I quite fancy Hiddink with Pearce as his number two.

Even if Sven said it, he won't have any role in picking the next manager.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/internationals/4671102.stm

Apparently we're starting the search tomorrow when we form a group who's going to do the search. If Hiddink's interested then he'd be a very good name to have on the list though, and probably one of the favourites. The only English manager who I think should be in the top list of contenders is Sam Allardyce. McLaren hasn't done much for Middlesborough, Curbishley has done wonders with Charlton but they've stagnated, and Pearce is far too inexperienced. I'd like to see Martin O'Neill get it, if he's interested.

Yep big sam would be my 1st choice. Martin O'neill wife is still Ill and I doubt he'd take the job. Cubishley would be another choice hes a great manager.

I think GD is right about Chelsea though. When Robben was injured, and Chelsea began losing, all of their fans started saying "wait until Robben comes back". That doesnt say much for the rest of the team if they depend on one player that much

how do chelsea depend on one player! we have loads of able players thats why were top. I think robben is a good player but the rest of the team are quite capable of coping on their own.

Its such a shame he was doing an amazing job of relegating job of Newcastle.

Serioulsy though you can blame injuries till the cows come home, but with the team he had available to him would be enough to finish mid table. Hes just a terrible manager who played players out of position blamed refs, injuries and everything but his poor tactics. Souness had 3 good seasons with Rovers, which is better than 1 crappy season with previous managers like Kidd, Hodgson or Harford.

In the end he became too much to tolerate - arguments with players, getting sent from the dugout and poor buys like Emerton, Amoruso and Ferguson.

You're right, he used to be alot less of a team player, but now he's grown as a player. He turned 21 today I believe, so still alot of years left in him. But that free kick he took against Fulham was amazing, curved about three different directions at once.

meh, I've never seen Dyer as world class. Even at his best, Beckham and Wright-Phillips are ahead of him to play right midfield, and I'd shift Joe Cole or Gerrard out there to before giving him a game. He's a classic example of a player who looked good three years ago, but I've never seen him fully live up to his potential since. As for his attitude, it's pretty shocking. Personally I don't know whether I can really call anyone with an attitude that bad world class without them being exceptionally gifted, which he isn't.

well he relies a lot on his speed, thats his game, so without the fitness then he's gonna struggle and all he ever seems to do is tear hamstrings. but when he's fit and his attitude is right he is really top class. i've seen him do it for the toon and it has to be seen to be believed. only problem is that the last 2/3 seasons have been poor, i think if he gets himself fit and sorts his head out / grows up then he'll be an international contender again.

agreed, on current form, but if he gets himself sorted out with the injuries and attitude he's a match winner. even played as a striker as has been done relatively recently, but it's all down to him really and how much of a chance he's given by the new gaffers. i don't think shearer will tolerate much though. anything less than 200% and you'll be on the bench, if that.

Hello everybody, how goes it?

My club is not performing very well at the moment. I was rather unhappy with seeing yesterday's result after getting off a 23 hour flight. Rather ironic really, I was thinking on Friday: through all the Mourinho-era Chelsea defeats, no one has ever really looked like scoring 3 against us, except Barcelona at Nou Camp last year. Then Boro - ****ing BORO! - put 3 past us with no reply. I will tell you one thing about this Chelsea team: without Claude Makélélé in defensive midfield the team struggles. Example #1 - Against Charlton three weeks ago, drawing 1-1 and with 28 minutes to go José brings on Maniche for Maka, obviously to try and make the midfield more attacking. Not to mention that Maniche is sh*t, the midfield fell apart completely and the Addicks got a draw (I was not best pleased, that being the first Chelsea game I'd been to 'n' all). And he's injured at the moment and BORO - F*CKING BORO - put three past us. Maka is as important as Terry and maybe Lampard to Chelsea, if not as important as Lampard then very close.

I'll try to go back and read through and comment on a few things as I tend to do, but I've been slightly out of the news over the last four weeks... Robbie Fowler, what in God's f*cking name is that? I was reading France Football on the train two weeks ago and I saw this story about Fowler, something to do with Scouse. Now France Football is a great magazine and all, the only problem is that it's in French. So I can get the gist of stories but not detail... So I'm miffed as all hell thinking this article is saying Robbie fking Fowler has gone back to Liverpool! Couldn't believe it... And D'Alessandro to Pompey, interesting move. C'Mon The Chelsea!

Fair Play mate, I'm not taking anything at all away from Boro, I am saying that Maka is an important player. It's not an excuse, it's an observation. Beating Chelsea by three goals is something that Man United, Arsenal, Liverpool, Barcelona, Porto, Bayern Munich, and Sunderland haven't managed in the last two seasons so well done to Boro.

That Essien song was sung by one kid at the FA Cup game on Wednesday, and he sang it maybe 50 times, by himself. Quite funny really... Considering Essien wasn't even playing either.

Chelsea not looking too great for the visit of Barcelona next week...

I don't think it was ever a secret that Chelsea need Makelele like kidneys.Never a secret, just never been exposed like it was at the Riverside. And not having Makélélé is not the only reason, we beat the Toffees 4-1 without him. A really disgraceful team performance is the only answer, and the performance of their season from the Boro.

Jeebus, did anyone just see Joey Barton's goal? What an absolute peach of a shot.

You missed the whole barton saga we bid for him but it was rejected and then we plays amazingly in midfield.

I can definetly see Man Utd and Arsenal going for him, he'd be a perfect replacement for Keane and Viera.

Also Sunderland 1 - Tottenham   Still a good weekend for the north east. That is unless you support Hartlepool :p

If we bring in Joey Barton I'm going to be deeply pissed. Apart from the fact that he's a thug, he's nowhere near the standard needed to anchor our midfield, and he'd basically be a stopgap, like too many of our other midfielders. We need to bring in someone who's either an established top class anchoring midfielder or someone who could become one. Not someone in between.

Apparently O'Neill's seriously considering taking the Newcastle job, but the FA board who are replacing Sven aren't going to offer anyone the job until late February at the earliest, apparently. It looks like we might miss out on O'Neill, who is easily the best choice for the job in my opnion, and then be forced to go for another British manager, which essentially leaves Sam Allardyce on the list of people I'd consider qualified for the job.

i pray to the gods of football that we get o'neill.

/prays

sounds like they've offered him big bucks. always helps matters....

curbishley was right saying that the FA are taking too long to get the new england manager sorted. either do it now or leave it, it's just causing too much unrest and is starting to annoy the fans of those clubs involved.

although the papers must be loving it, yet another opportunity to fabricate more rumours / lies about who it's going to be so they can sell more of their trashy papers.

Martin O'Neill won't be taking any job. He left Celtic to take care of his wife and turned down the Ireland job only a couple of months ago.

we'll see. unless you have a direct line to him of course..

No, but his wife is dying.

oh so you're his wife's doctor? in that case you need to take another look i believe.

From "the Times" today....(about the only rag i would take seriously)

MARTIN O’NEILL is expected to begin talks with Newcastle United this week about becoming the club’s new manager, writes Joe Lovejoy, football correspondent. The Northern Irishman is understood to be interested in taking the position vacated by Graeme Souness, who was sacked 10 days ago. Sources suggest that, should a deal be agreed, O’Neill could take over after Newcastle’s FA Cup fifth-round tie against Southampton next weekend

The Ulsterman is considering whether the improvement in the health of his wife Geraldine will allow him to return to management. The 53-year-old has been out of a job since voluntarily leaving Celtic in May last year to spend more time with her. It is believed he is unlikely to reach a decision about any offer until the results of her latest tests are known in a few weeks’ time.

I really doubt he'd take either job. He left management to care for his wife and has turned down jobs in the meantime. Granted the Ireland job was and is as about attractive a proposition as death by iron maiden, but if he was going to make his way back into football it was the ideal move. There's no way he'd take over a full-time job two months later, and I'd doubt he'd want either the hassle Sven had to put up with as England coach (even if a lot of it was his own stupid doing) or the ire of his Irish fans (I wouldn't say he'd never take the England job, but he's Irish).

Personally, I don't think any manager will ever be good enough for the English public but apparently every manager in England has an equal chance of getting the job as of recently.

p.s. I thought this was funny, if only for the sheer gall: http://www.sportnetwork.net/main/s70/st90364.htm

I don't know...the mere fact that he hasn't come out and said he has no interest in the Newcastle or England jobs makes me believe he might consider it. I don't really know what's up with his wife though so its possible that he's just assuming that no way would anyone make him an offer while his wife is critically ill. I don't understand why so many people want the England job, but I can see why O'Neill might. He's always come across as having a huge deal of self-confidence (in a positive way), and that would be a must if he were to take over. He's got the sort of passionate yet lucid air about him that would satisfy the public, at least initially. I can't see why he'd want the Newcastle job, with all its difficulties and not that much money to spend now, considering that he'd be able to be a strong candidate for a lot of top jobs (including possibly the Manchester United job at the end of this season).

Surely Sir Alex would not leave

Poor Smithy.
