Coming off of last season's Super Bowl winning performance, New England looks to have another strong showing assuming that the Defensive lineup stays intact and solid. But my team for the season would have to be Atlanta. With Michael Vick coming back healthy and injury-free, he is looking to carry the Falcons to the playoffs.
Eagles v. Pats for the SuperBowl, you tw*t
Anyway, Southampton have secured two good players, so we could definitely improve on last year
Stick-Munch
07-19-2004, 08:39 AM
Who have you bought in? My team (Manchester United) haven't had the best summer in the transfer market, so I'm not that happy. :upset:
Jelle van Damme from... Ajax, is it? Anderlecht?
Peter Crouch from Aston Villa. Plus 4 youth players
Stick-Munch
07-19-2004, 08:53 AM
Peter Crouch has always struck me as having far more potential then he actually has realised so far. How much did you pay for him? If people like Fernandes get crosses in for him, he could be deadly.
£2m for Crouch, I think

I'm really surprised actually that no-one big has come in for Niemi. For the last few years he's easily been one of the best keepers in the Premiership, and I would have thought that someone like Arsenal would have been looking for a new keeper
Arsenal tried to get him, but got this Spanish guy instead

Apparently Marcus Bent is a decent player, who we recently signed, and is very good with Kevin Campbell, and they set each other up for goals quite a bit.
I'm hoping they will do well. And we have a team game, we don't let ourselves rely on one player ie Rooney, like Man U do with Van Nistlerooy.

chumpradio
07-19-2004, 02:06 PM
Between Hartson and Sutton though they should still win I reckon. Didn't they finish ridiculously far clear of Rangers last year? And for all you Scots, can you tell me if Liam Miller is any good? I've heard he is, but apparently he's meant to be a long term Roy Keane replacement, so I have my doubts...
I don't think Sutton can score enough goals, but maybe if Hartson is given good enough set-ups he could score more. They need decent wingers to set up the two strikers, then they may be able to score enough to win the league.
AfroMan
07-19-2004, 02:08 PM

Ahhhh...OK.
That was such a crappy game. From the first minute, there was no speed to the game. It was sloppy. Although, I will admit Ron Makaay played his *** off, Man U's offense was horrid, and Bayern Munich couldn't get through. It was weird seeing Keane in the backfield for United. I left at about the 70th minute 'cause I couldn't take it any more.

If we sell him, we can have different strikers playing, but with him at the club, Moyes is under pressure to let Rooney start, no matter how rubbish he is playing.

Yeah, it's odd. When I look at your strikers, they all look pretty impressive, so I guess you could afford to sell Rooney (although the fans would hate it). You've sold Radzinski now haven't you? Him and Cole for Fulham should be good. I guess that's why McFadden plays on the left normally...to try and accomodate as many of your forwards as you can.
Yeah, we sold Radzinski. He was my favourite striker.
Rooney isn't as good as he is made out to be, and in the Premiership he has done virtually nothing, except score around 7 goals per season.
I wouldn't be sad to see Rooney go, an 18 year old should not be getting what he get's paid, it isn't right.
I really want him to turn into a new Paul Gascgoine, and drink loads and **** up his career.

*gets thread back on topic*
Apparently Arsenal have now agreed a £23.1 million fee for Viera, with Real Madrid, but the deal is on hold until Arsenal have Portugese central midfielder Maniche lined up as a replacement. Not a bad replacement, I think, although obviously not as good as Viera. And Portsmouth have bid a club record amount for Michael Carrick, and are also chasing Dwight Yorke :thumb:
I really hate Real Madrid. But yet, they still finish 2nd in the Spanish Primera with their all-star lineup, so then you begin to really wonder how much importance goes into pulling in big names rather than people that work well together. Look at Porto...Those guys can play, not many big names.

Yeah, but they've bought defenders now, in Samuel, and (probably) Viera. Plus they're bringing in someone else I think. That could make all the difference I think.
and it probably will. They're almost like the Yankees of a few years ago: buying themselves a title. It really bothers me.

being from Florida, I have to be a Tampa Bay fan. But moving to DC a year later, we converted to the Redskins. But still like Tampa. Anyways, the Redskins should be pretty good this season. Joe Gibbs is back and he doesn't take any crap from them. He doesn't allow phone calls at meetings, Spurrier. And we have Clinton Portis.

try telling that to chelsea! all good players now go for over 30 million - ronaldo, beckham, figo ... the transfer fees will rise in the future until teams are paying over 50 million for a player who today is worth about 15. it is stupid and it will mean that lower-leagued sides can not compete in the transfer market because teams like madrid, chelsea etc are making it higher.

i am a rugby union fan (ex-player) and i feel the same about rugby league, but that is a different thing. if you dont like it dont watch it, and i do get annoyed at big transfer fees and stuff because it is ruining the game, and it means when all the good players go to one club, the only interesting team will be that one. that is why we need to put a stop to all this transfer crap.

Man U, totally. However, I didn't like their performance vs. Arsenal yesterday. Disappointing.

Arsenal again, especially if Vieira stays

My main team is Wolves (dont mention that) but second is Arsenal. I think that if Vieira stays we will win the league but if not, Chelsea. In all honesty I think that Man Utd don't really have a chance because I don't believe they have strenghtened their side enough over the summer. But we shall see! My prediction is:
1: Arsenal
2: Chelsea
3: Man Utd
4: Liverpool
----------
18: West Brom
19: Portsmouth
20: Crystal Palace

Top 4 same as last year, and Palace and West Brom wont survive, Norwich will finish mid-table and I dont think Portsmouth can survive again, sadly.

Chelsea do have quite a fair shot at the cup. I think may prove to be the spoilers this year.

I agree with the top 4 but i think it will finish
18 West Brom
19 Norwich
20 Crystal Palace (my second team)
I think west Brom have a chance and i definately can't see Portsmotuh going down, they score too many goals

Yes, possibly, but they have a point to prove. If they don't win it then everyone will question Abromovich and Mourinho - like they did with Ranieri. Arsenal have everything to loose also, so they will be pressure especially if Vieira goes. Man Utd I believe don't have the flair that they showed in their 1999 Treble Winning Year, and Liverpool I think could be the spoilers although I tiped them for 4th, some good buys and some recent ups in form have proved that they are a decent team. I don't believe Chelsea can spoil because they have so much weight on their shoulders.
