Totenham have got a fair few good players but their squad looks pretty unbalanced with too many central midfielders. Why splash out £8 million on Jenas when you've got Carrick and Davids with plenty of decent back up.
Still, i'm not too fussed, Arsenal all the way.

For me, Arsenal dont seem to have the desire to win as much as they did with Viera
Drop The Baby
09-22-2005, 01:24 PM
Vieira doesn't control the players desire to win. You just have to look at the desire in players faces like Freddie Ljungberg, Thierry Henry, Ashley Colem Sol Campbell amongst others to see that the desire still flows strong, we're just adapting to losing one of the worlds best. That would affect every team in the world, losing a player of that stature

Hahaha, yes, you may say he was unlucky.

Woody was unlucky, the sending off was debatable although the first yellow was for a very bad tackle. The own goal was just him trying to cut out a cross and he headed it past the keeper from the edge of the box. Poor bloke, at least he's not injured!
so who in your opinion, will be a good replacement for Vieira? :smash:
i say Gattuso
i don't want Diop, he clearly is never going to be a player of Vieira's standard and would only be a part time filler.
Gattuso would be a wonderful replacement, but i doubt Milan would ever let him go as he's a hero out there.
Juninho of Lyon looks to be a very good player every time i've seen him, plus he's the best dead ball striker in the world.
I'd love to have got Ballack. He's tall strong, great passing and shooting ability and has a strong character.
Scott Parker would also have been someone i'd have liked, a very good competitor with great tackling and positioning. There's a few options, i've probably forgotten a fair few as it is!
Arsenal are away at sunderland in the CC

95% of the players they want they get. They can buy themselves out of any situation, i.e. if they are struggling come chrsiitmas they just have to splash out another £100 million to make the title and everything else theirs.
They also buy players that competitors want just to secure their position.

Chelsea's money is just an obstacle for the rest of the league to overcome. There's been dozens of teams in football history with the money to do what they want but who haven't got the results. Chelsea's success is largely due to Mourinho, not money. That they buy players just so their competitors won't is speculation, though it's probably true considering their purchase of the worst player in the world Scott Parker.

It can happen; two seasons ago, I think, Celtic were running rampant in the league and looked invincible yet they managed to lose and draw a bunch of games towards the ed of the season.
I think so far it's fair to say that Rangers' league form has been pretty incosistent and that Hearts are on a high, but I don't think it'll stay this way for the entire season.

Not for me, his 1st touch is as bad as Darren Fletchers at times. I mean i was there last night and everyone was getting so fustrated with him, i believe he would be better in Spain. Giggsy uses the ball to much better effect.

Bear in mind you were surrounded by people who booed Alex Ferguson at the weekend. Man Utd fans have never been known for their sporting intelligence. His touch lets his down sometimes, but generally I find his play is excellent. He's skillful, direct (one of the few players around these days who'll attempt to beat a defender) and his passing is often wonderful. Fletcher had a horrid game last night, as he has the past few times he's played, I don't know why he's still in the team.

Yes, we're highly inconsistent. Last season we lost once (I think) at home and struggled away. This season all our wins have come away from home, and only scored twice (not counting own goals) at home. It's very frustrating.

What's his name? John Mikel Obi seems to be on his way to Chelsea again at the moment, and he'd be a very good long term addition to go with the rest of our new wave of young midfielders. Park Ji-Sung looked great on Saturday, so we look good in terms of wingers, but we need new central midfielders. Ballack would be cool, but he's aging.

1) As a Chelsea fan, and a long-standing one, it is very annoying to see bandwagon supporters jump on when it suits them. This is what Manure and Arse have been dealing with for years, not to mention Barça, Milan, Juve and Real Madrid. I find it disgraceful that as a Chelsea 'fan', one knows nothing about Zola. The club's greatest ever player. That is like a Man Utd fan not knowing who Schmeichel or Cantona are. I think all new fans to a club should learn something about the history and acknowledge it - let alone respect it - before they proclaim themselves as 'fans'.
Just a rant from me as I have experienced this more and more recently. Any thoughts?
2) Anyone been watching Real Madrid this season? I have watched every Madrid game this year I think. David Beckham, in my opinion, is in absolutely superb form. He has been outstanding for a struggling Real. Although he isn't scoring as many goals as his glory days at Old Traff, he is back as one of the best midfielders in the world. Any thoughts?
3) The Kop and Andfield and all Liverpool supporters in general p*ss me off no end. Biggest bunch of wankers ever. Anyone agree?
4) Anyone seen the FIFA100 list of the best living 150 players in the world released by FIFA a little while back? THE BIGGEST LOAD OF HORSE SH*T I HAVE EVER SEEN. Look it up if you haven't seen it. (You can see the list on Wikipedia and other places.) El Hadji-Diouf and Hidetoshi Nakata in the best living 150 footballers? FIFA is a joke.
5) Mikaël Essien looks like he could be the next great centre midfielder to emerge. Thoughts?
6) What is your World XI? Mine would be something like this:
In a 3-3-2-2 formation (Kaká slightly deeper than 'Dinho in attacking midfield):
Petr Čech (Chelsea);
Carles Puyol (Barçelona), John Terry (Chelsea), Rio Ferdinand (Manchester United);
David Beckham (Real Madrid), Frank Lampard (Chelsea), Steven Gerrard (Liverpool);
Kaká (Milan);
Ronaldinho (Barçelona);
Adriano (Inter), Thierry Henry (Arsenal).
Manager: José Mourinho (Chelsea).
Bench: Gianluigi Buffon (Juventus), Alessandro Nesta (Milan), Claude Makélélé (Chelsea), Zinedine Zidane (Real Madrid), Xavi (Barcelona), Juninho Pernambucano (Olympique Lyonnais), Tomas Rosicky (Borussia Dortmund), Michael Ballack (Bayern München), Damien Duff (Chelsea), Cristiano Ronaldo (Manchester United), Ruud van Nistelrooij (Manchester United), Andriy Shevchenko (Milan), Ronaldo (Real Madrid).
Kaká's only in there as the 11th player. And Beckham is only a recent addition. The core 9 of Čech, Terry, Puyol, Rio, Lamps, Stevie G, 'Dinho, Adriano and Henry is very hard to go past. The last two spots seem to be the problem... Maybe take Kaká out and put Henry on the right ('Dinho would play left) to accommodate Sheva or Ronaldo???
No Ibrahimovič, Gattusso, Viera, Pirés, Roberto Carlos, Cafu, Maldini, Marquéz, Owen, Robben, Essien, Gallas, Carvalho, Keane, Crespo, Reyes, Eto'o, Riquelme the list goes on and on and on!

There's always John O' Shea.
Yeah, but he's in the team already though, covering Gary Neville.
That is like a Man Utd fan not knowing who Schmeichel or Cantona are.
That would be ludicrous, I find it bad enough if they didn't know who Norman Whiteside was...

Please Sven do NOT play Peter Crouch. Anyone see the thing on Skysports where they comapred Bent and Crouch this season?
Bent beat Crouch at everything on the list, pass completion, goals, pass accuracy, tackles won etc..
I know he's only young and new to even the premiership, but he would offer far more than just everyone lumping the ball up to crouch for him to do nothing with it

No.
Not Robben either.
I would like to replace Aimar with Rooney, as he can play anywhere :p
I think Darren Bent would be suited to the team, why not Defoe, anyway?

Yeah... Zola is comparable in Chelsea's history as Cantona is to Manure's. Fair play to become a Chelsea fan: you should know Zola. Not necessary to know the playing career statistics of Osgood, Harris, Tambling or Bonetti.
I would agree, but not as much as I hate Arsenal fans
Yeah, I hate Arsenal fans, but Scousers are just sh*t.
I would have alot of strikers in a world XI before Henry; Eto'o, Sheva, Trezeguet, Rooney
You can't honestly say that can you? Ok, his record in big matches for the Arse has been questioned, but he is absolutely sensational. On his day he is unstoppable. See - Arse v Leeds and Arse v Liverpool, 2003-2004 Premier League. Eto'o, while having a great scoring record from last year - and continuing that this season - is not the talisman of his team. Neither does he dominate games, and his finishing sometimes leaves him with one goal when he should have had a hat-trick. Sheva is bloody awesome. Rooney - not just yet. Too loose and, while undoubtedly bloody great, he doesn't compare to Henry. Trez - Henry is the best French striker. In fact, Trez is 2nd in the pecking order at Juve behind that Swede Zlatan.
GK-Buffon
RB-Puyol
LB-R.Carlos
CB- Nesta
CB-Terry

Buffon - yeah, it really is either he or Petr C for mine, both are ahead of the rest (with Casillas, van der Sar, Frey, Coupet, Cudicini the next level down). Puyol at RB - but he doesn't play full-back anymore.
Roberto Carlos - while excellent going forward, just too shaky in defence. Ashley Cole and Asier Del Horno appear to be the two best LBs at the moment. You reckon Nesta is better than Rio? Fair enough...
Cristiano in the World XI? Not too sure I agree with you there... Surely Beckham adds more right now. He is setting up 1-2 goals at least per game, has a work-rate that only Rosicky, Lampard and maybe a few others can match and is over all more consistent... [in my opinion of course]
You reckon Reno Gatusso is better than Viera, Gerrard or Lampard? Not for my money. (Rate the job he does and he gets well stuck in though.)
Dinho - yep. Sheva with RvN - You probably need another play-maker in there rather than two out and out goal getters (although Sheva is more of a play-maker than RvN without doubt)... That's why I have to lean towards Henry...
I'd say put Dinho on the left Wing - he plays so far left anyway.
Bench:
Cassilas
Ferdinand(when in form)
Pirlo
Van Der Vaart
Rooney
While all good players there, I can't agree that Casillas, Pirlo and van der Vaart are good enough to be in the World squad. Surely, if not in the first XI, Henry, Gerrard, Lampard, Beckham, Zidane, Kaka and Adriano have to be ahead of them.
The formation you choose, to some extent, dictates that players in a "World XI".

You are 'avin' a MASSIVE laugh if you think Sol Campbell is the best or second best centre-back in the world. John Terry, Carles Puyol, Rio Ferdinand, Cannavaro, Helguera even are better than him in my opinion.
Cafu - I would have had him in a few years back, but not anymore for mine.
Definately NOT Robben. Duff is a lot more consistent that Arjen. When in form, he is scintilating, as he showed last season. But he isn't in the World XI. I reckon Lamps and Stevie G are better than Patrick V as well. Fair play though.

Damien Duff.
I love Duffer. I have a Duff shirt (last Chelsea white shirt, with the blue and dark navy stripes down the front), and love watching him play. But I don't think he's in the best three or four midfielders in the world. Although you are picking on positions, I think Ronaldinho would get ar un ahead of Duff on the left wing.
Meh, I'll let my bias come through. Duff for left wing in the world XI!

Owen
Rooney
In light of injuries - Carragher can play RB, Bridge at LB (although he's injured as well!), Shaun W-P can play anywhere in midfield or as an attacker, Downing, Defoe.
The Australian line-up is more interesting to talk about:
Schwarzer
Emerton Neill Moore Lazaridis??
Grella
Bresciano Cahill Culina
Viduka Aloisi/Thompson
And what about Elrich out wide???
HAVE to be in 1st team: Neill, Bresc, Cahill, V-Bomber.

I rate Lucio highly. Xabi Alonso in the World XI? You must be a Liverpool fan... Cafu and Maldini are probably too old don't ya reckon?
And the World XI would not play 4-4-2!!! They would play 3-3-4 or something silly like that.

not a liverpool fan - i just think he's a fantastic player (that, or i just wanted to be original :p )

Van Basten his 4-3-3 (left to right)
Van Der Sar (Manchester United)
Bronckhorst (Barcelona)
Opdam (AZ)
Boulharouz (HSV Hamburg)
Kromkamp (Valencia)
Van der Vaart (HSV Hamburg)
Maduro (Ajax)
Landzaat (AZ)
Robben (Chelsea)
van Nistelrooij (Manchester United)
Kuijt (Feyenoord)
Davids (Tottenham), van Persie (Arsenal) are on the bench.

That is correct, he helped AZ to the semis of the UEFA Cup and held second place in the competition for a long time. Somehow he didn't manage to find a bigger club in a other country (that is what all dutch players do, when they play good). AZ held him back, I believe.

Davids plays left on midfield, so does Van der Vaart, Van der Vaart plays brilliant in Germany, elected player of the month, made 6 goals etc. So he got the choice above Davids.
Van Bommel is a different story, he also is an excellent player but he didn't show anything in the national team (like Seedorf, AC Milan). Van Basten wasn't convinced of his qualities, sacked him and told him if he got better at Barcelona, where he is currently benchsitter, he might come back.
