Who do you guys think are Englands best defence?

Mine: Robinson in goal
Gary Neville at right back
Ashley Cole at left back
Rio Ferdinand at centre back
John Terry at centre back

I don't really like the idea of Campbell not being in the team though, he was our best player at the past world cup and euro '04, also Carragher surpassed a lot of expectations. Ledley King and Woodgate could also be in with a shout. It's strange how England have got so many world class central defenders coming along all at one time.
I hope you guys lose just so I can laugh at you.

England's best defence IMO:
Paul Robinson in goal.
Ashley Cole at left back.
Rio Ferdinand at right back.
John Terry at centre back.
Ledley King at centre back.

meh, it was just a sloppy match.

james was calamitous as usual but there was some good playing on show. i'm not going to subscribe to the Sven bashing over a few minutes of madness. just as long as James never wears an England shirt again.

i've a sneaking suspicion it'll be a slightly different match against wales.

Last night was a major eye-opener for me. I know it was only a friendly, but the team we put out in the first half should've already wrapped it up. Sven's approach to these games is completely wrong. You can't bring on 7 new players in the second half and expect them to be fresh, focused and ready. David James himself said he wasn't focused enough to play well. I'm so glad Robinson is a pretty solid keeper and James is our reserve, because we wouldn't have a leg to stand on if James was in goal.

As far as Johnson and Cole go, they're still young and learning. The only way they'll get better at international level is by playing more games. We need Glen Johnson as a replacement for G. Neville when he retires, that's why he's being bought into the squad so early; to prepare him. I didn't think he played that bad, considering nerves and not playing for Chelsea or England this season.

Like somebody already said earlier, Lampard and Gerrard can not play together. Their styles of play are just too similar. We need a holding player, someone that can sit back and be our Roy Keane. Carrick is my best option here.

I don't think England will ever win a world cup while Sven is in charge. Last night proved his tactics are diabolical, and we'll be heading for another second round (if we even get that far) exit next year in Germany.

You are so very right. I didn't watch the game, when my brother said that England were playing poorly, I'm sick of them playing poorly, then they come to paparazzi and make up ridiculous excuses. 'We havent won an international trophy since 1966 - thats 40 years this world cup' No you don't get any of that. They don't acknowledge that they have played poorly, Sven is taking us down - he should drop Owen completely and play Defoe and Rooney

You should've seen him against Man City, he kept the Albion in the game.

Also, I think that we should play Gerrard as a holding midfeilder, Lamps as an attacking mid and Beckham and whoever on the left and right. Because, tbh, Lampard scores more than Gerrard. And if we say need a change for Lampard, but Gerrard in his place, sub Lamps for Carrick and put Carrick in the holding role.

You're right, there is potential for an amazing partnership. But Gerrard's shown time and time again he's no good when it comes to sitting back and supporting the defence when Lampard moves forward. They're both similar in the sense that they both like to get forward and run at defences, neither are really def-mid players. They're both mid-att. Carrick may not be Roy Keane, but the team would certainly work better with him and England would concede a lot less goals on the counter attack, like yesterday when Denmark ripped us to pieces.

So how many red cards today?

Iai
08-20-2005, 04:40 PM
My random MOTD thoughts

- That was nice of Marc Schwarzer, trying to make David James feel better about himself. Paul Robinson and Jermaine Defoe both NEED to be in the England starting line-up, though. And Davids should have been sent off. There were red cards last week for tackles worse than that first one.

- Why was the guy from Porcupine Tree commentating the Manu/Villa game? (/lame) In any case, Park is looking a lot better this week, and all in all, Man U look better than they have done in a few seasons. Only thing is, that Scholes/Rooney corner combo is gonna get predictable pretty soon. The link-up play between those two, though, was fantastic today.

- Andy Cole's celebration was hilarious.

- That Konchesky sending off was DODGY. Seriously dodgy. And by the way, fair ****in' play to Shearer for arguing it.

- Pederson's goal was class.....then Tugay went and topped it. Goal of the month? Gotta be up there.

- That Welsh sending-off? Worst decision I've seen in years. If that was a red card, Gerrard should have gone 3 or 4 times.

I don't have BBC, and I missed the Premiership earlier, so I've to wait until 2.30 to see the goals. I watched Liverpool-Sunderland live earlier though, and the sending off was incredible. Stunningly bad decision. Steven Elliott performed well as a sub. Watch out for him, he's the new Robbie Keane - i.e. Irish and fairly talented.

Not sure your talking about the Old Firm match but if you are there was 2 sending offs both from Celtic. Neil Lennon got sent off for squaring up to a linesman after the game, and Alan Thompson got sent off for apparently a tackle not worth a booking. I'm a Rangers fan so I'm happy :p

the Welsh and Konchesky sending off's were awful decisions. Hopefully they will be looked at and will be rescinded.

I don't see how they could stand. They were both ridiculous decisions made by the linesman not the referee. Apparently Gallagher saw footage of the Konchesky tackle and says he made the right decision. Crazy.

Did anyone see Pedersen's goal for Blackburn? Sweet strike.

You always seem to beat us. And Creswell always seems to score. Is he still with you? Thats why I hate Preston. It should have been us in the playoff final! You didnt deserve to be there TBH. Oh and I believe you got granted city status ahead of Reading a couple of years ago. Thats another reason.

So Everton's Champions Leauge chances have been slashed, according to my local newspaper.

What chances, I ask myself. The chances that they may get a higher skilled team than they are, and when they get beat, they can pass it off as good sportsmanship?

I have no idea, but I think it's ridiculous. I was down at my mates when it was on, I could see the tears in his eyes welling up. NOW he claims that the Refferee isn't the best in the world! I mean, I'll be honest, the whistle was in his mouth before anything was wrong, but they did not deserve to go through.

Champions Leauge hopes slashed! Uefa cup hopes re-kindled!

yes, i disagree with that decision. the referee was poor in that match

TakeWarning

The decision affected our whole game because it left us one striker down, and it dampens the team spirits and a decision that shocks can distract you from the game.

Stuart Pearce is the next England manager, imo. He's turned Man City from a poor relegation-battling side into a team that'll be in the top 6 this season. The players respect him. There's not a fan in the country that doesn't respect him as a player or a man. We'd win every world and euro cup if he was in charge instead of that clueless Swedish **** we've got at the moment.

also, bring back Andy Cole and Sherringham in the squad. :D

Rooney :D Goal for my striker, assist for my keeper

Someone should have been sent off for pulling ronaldo back - last man, forget who

and should of had a penalty, keeper went to ground and caught ruuds foot.

meh still 1-0 though

Still no replies? :o Oh well Update, 2-0 Ruud van Nistelrooy :) great run by Rooney, so Both my strikers scored and my keeper got a clean sheet + Assist :P

Also am I the only one who splashed out in defence and attack and left the midfield kind of weak? My team is:

GK: Van der Sar

DF: John Terry
DF: William Gallas
DF: Ashley Cole
DF: Robert Huth ( I need to transfer him :P he dont play much)

MF: Cristiano Ronaldo
MF: Damien Francis
MF: Jinichi Inamoto
MF: Richard Chaplow

FW: Ruud van Nistelrooy
FW: Wayne Rooney

see my midfield is the weakest part of my team :P I have no cash left over and can't get anything better to my knowlege :P any idea?

right...

after having seen the highlights of the match I wish to make a few pionts

1. not only was the carr challenge a blatant red card, the Given challenge on Van nistlerooy was a penalty in my eyes, he quite clearly pulled him down.

2. since when did newcastle become a dirty team? I mean, Have I been a bit blind in not noticing this before?

3. why do we keep playing darren fletcher at the expense of both Park and Giggs? two clearly better players?

4. Van Nistlerooy looks awesome, as does Rooney

MILF Hunter
08-28-2005, 04:49 PM
the van nistlerooy one was never a penalty. The keeper went down and Ruud kinda fell over him, he could have easily not gone over the keeper like that

poorquality
08-28-2005, 04:54 PM
Fletchers been playing extremely well recently, and with our current formation he suits it better. Right now we've got ronaldo and rooney playing attacking wing roles with ruud center forward, so keane scholes and fletcher are all central and 2 attacking and 1 defensive. It works out, Fletcher will play every game he can now, we'll see keane or scholes getting rested to bring in Giggs or Park ( I say park because giggs seems to be slacking again, he noticably increased his game when richardson was brought on for g.neville in the last game, he's playing to lax at the minute unless his position is threatened.

Anyway, yeah Fletcher and Smith are our answers to Keane and Scholes once they retire, giggs is getting older now so Park can play instead of him sometimes, Park will also be brought on from the bench alot this season with Smith. Thats my thought anyway. Next season the team will change a bit as the older players will either retire or play alot less.

On your other points, 1: Yep exactly, ref was an idiot, even if he didn't see Carrs challenge (which he was in line with so had no excuses) you'd think the linesman would of flagged.

2. They became extremely dirty once united scored the first goal, it's not been a great start for them they still haven't scored a goal yet, guess the pressure and their performances got to them in the end.

4. Yeah..they do, Ruud back on form, Rooney never left it. We'll score loads this season

EDIT to reply to MILF hunter, yeah I see where you're coming from but still, the keeper went to ground infront of him and he flicked the ball away over the keeper so it seemed he was through once he got past the keeper so it looked more convincing, and there was contact so he went over, yeah he could of jumped him or whatever, but what striker in the premiership would of done that rather than get the penalty that should rightfully of been given.

Wow this is a long post :S

poorquality
08-28-2005, 06:26 PM
Newcastles defence is poor, and they're relying on Shearer to be the lone striker, yet he's getting older and not anywhere near as good as he was, hasn't scored in like 15 premiership matches.

They're desperate to get Owen, but they need a fail safe, if they don't get Owen who will they get? They need another striker, transfer windows almost closed. Ameobi is a waste of time.
