I know! He is definately not of the same calibre as Vieira. We Arsenal fans have just gotta trust Wenger. Personally, I think Maniche, Van Bommel or Ballack would be a good replacement in the central midfield position.
well there's no way Wenger will go for Van Bommel or Maniche, cos they just transfered to another club this summer, and there's no way Munich will sell Ballack to ANYONE.

Arsenal still have Fabregas, but we still need someone experienced until Cesc gets better.

Ballack is my favourite soccer player - he's a real champion! I agree that bayern won't sell him easily - not soon, anyway.

Even moreso, I think Oliver Kahn will retire before he leaves Bayern Muenchen.

Bayern are my favourite team, and I think it can't be denied that they are the best german club. In Germany, the situation is you either love them or hate them.

In the early to mid 70's they had an absolutely awesome squad, with some of the best players ever to play at the club. They won the champions league (then called the european cup) three times in a row. This also coincided with West Germany's winning of the world cup in 1974.

SWP is better than Cole, probably on a par with Duff.

I'd play SWP on the right, with one of Duff and Robben left wing and the other as a second striker. Probably Robben up front

Chelsea could be good for SWP, if he chooses to use his time there well, as Joe Cole has. Cole is no longer a hugely overrated player, he's now an overrated player who can contribute something to a team, even if that team will never be Chelsea. SWP is far more talented than Cole, so he's got a chance.

I hope he doesn't leave! He's my favourite player in the world and has been for years! I was so happy when he scored all those goals at the world cup...

Now he's going to play for manchester united... :upset:

I hope'll stay. It isn't confirmed yet, is it?

Edit
Alright, I've done some research about this.
Ballack has expressed he wants to play in the premier league. FC Bayern Muenchen (his current club) may sell him now so they get some money instead of losing him for nothing when his contract expires.

Manchester United are looking for a new midfielder, and Ballack is just the experienced type they are looking for. He's the #1 person they want.

Bayern's coach however, has declared that Ballack won't leave because he and his family are very happy in Munich and they are financially secure etc.

it matters to an extent for a centre back or a centre forward, depending on how he plays his game. it's not the be all and end all tho, Shearer's no giant but he's been the best striker (arguably, as i know some won't agree) we've had in the country for years. it's all about using what you've got, physically and mentally. imho anyways..

Well he played about 20 didn't he? Crouch only started playing in January, played for the worst team in the Premiership, and if it wasn't for him Saint's would've been down before the last game. I'm not saying he's great, he's merely ok, and was also brought in as a squad player to make up the numbers. He gets little credit for his ball control (which is pretty good), and his heading is also good, and he is definately not crap.

because he's a money grabbing, workshy, idle twat.

if he used half the talent he allegedy has he could have a been a success. he chose just to take the money tho and not bother putting in any effort.

ah 'Tino. those were the days. what a character he was. the colombian drug baron.

Ameobi, when fit, was played over Paddy. or Dyer, when fit. and Milner might even have got a shot up front as well. basically anyone all the way down to the woman (or man, equal opportunities and all that) who washed the shirts would generally be given a go over Kluivert. and generally more effective as well, save for his goal against chelski in the FA cup.

Good to see Carragher getting on the scoresheet - first time in six and a half years, good on him. Crouch did well, as did Sissoko and Zenden IMO. Potter looks good as well, hope he gets more starts this season.

Steve Claridge has been sacked by Millwall after 36 days in charge, to be replaced by Colin Lee, who Claridge was trying to hire as a coach!

true, vassell is very quick, and that apparently makes a great striker according to most pundits, look at thierry henry, he's very quick with a bit of skill therefore gets goals, not much more than a glorified left winger and he's hailed by wearing-an-arsenal-shirt-under-their-suits football commentators as the "best in the world"

You make it sound like Henry is pretty rubbish. I think you'll find that he is actually very good, certainly one of the contenders for "best in the world". He's very fast, has great control, has good vision, can hit a hell of a shot, can cross well and is an excellent set-piece taker. The only thing I've yet to see him excel at is heading. In fact, I don't think I've ever seen him head the ball.

I'm not saying he's a bad player, blatantly not, but he has never played well in european competition, and scoring goals against most premiership defences isn't much of an achievement, I would like to see how he would fare in italy again or spain where defensive play is prized higher than over here

Souness isn't that bad a manager. He did well with Blackburn for a number of years (just keeping them in the Premiership was an achievement), and then inherited a team lacking in confidence, ravaged with internal conflict, which came to a head with the Bowyer/Dyer fight, and generally performing poorly. Admittedly, they still didn't do as well as they should've done, but I think this season will show how good a manager Souness really is. He's made some decent signings in Emre and Parker, but he needs to get the team to gel, which they did all too rarely last season.

Chelsea should be a force next season now that they have Essien. He's a powerful player who was impressive in last year's Champions League, and can provide defensive stability, by filling in for Makelele, or playing alongside him, and is also an attacking threat. Del Horno looks like an accomplished player with a mean left foot, and a penchant for scoring free-kicks. And apparently they may bid 60million for Schevchenko, which would give them an intimidating forward line. I predict a comfortable victory over DC United.

I really hate them though :upset:

Has anyone else noticed how Tottenham seem to go in for any half-decent player on the transfer market? However their policy of buying young English players is a good one. They could yet spring a surprise next season. Mido, if on form, could prove to be an inspired signing, he was impressive in the Peace Cup tournament.

As for the persistant melodrama that is Man United, well, I think they will have another frustrating season. Their squad simply isn't as strong as Chelsea's, Arsenal's or even Liverpool's.

Errr, I support Brentford BTW. :)

Have Chelsea actually bought Essien yet? I know it's been going on and on, but I can't see anything about it on the BBC website...I doubt they'll get Schevchenko, purely because I don't think it's the Mourinho way to go in for people who are established as the best players in the world...I think he prefers to go for people with promise, not least because given how much money Chelsea have, he doesn't want to be held to ransom by other clubs, which is understandable. No matter who they bring in up front, it's hard to see them not winning the Premiership this year, as Arsenal are weaker than last season and we (Manchester United) seem not to have got any stronger. :-/ They should win easily tonight, but it'll be interesting to see how their team shapes up over the year, as they now have so many top class players in so many positions.

Yeah, I doubt that they'll get Schevchenko, although he is reportedly disgruntled with the signings of Gilardino and Vieri, fearing they could threaten his starting place. But I doubt that Abramovich would want to spend 60million in one go, so it appears to be just another tale from the Tabloids. But another forward would do them no harm as Drogba hasn't really delivered yet, Crespo couldn't settle in to the Premiership last time and Cole is unproven at best. Besides the other top teams all have four proven goalscorers at Premiership level e.g. Man United: Van Nistelrooy, Saha ,Smith, and Rooney. And I think they've pretty much agreed a deal with Essien, although I'm not sure if it's a done deal just yet.
Their team selection will be interesting, with so many quality players, Mourinho will have to rotate the team a lot to keep everyone happy. He has also stated that even players such as Lampard, Makelele and Cech be rested from time to time. I really hope they don't win the Champions League, their gloating would never cease.

Its not really, they probably have played against crappy teams, and a team wont get more points just because you beat a big name team

nitzguy

they shouold make the rankings reflect the competition you face... the better the team the more you go up in rankings, also if you have a steak you should be rewarded for that too. but i'm a silly american, so what do i know.

Real get Baptista, Good I say!
He looks like one of those players who could rip a defense open, just like Essien

Not to keep him out of Man U's hands. I doubt Essien will see much first team football at Chelsea.

£32 million + Tiago is the player Lyon apparently want for Essien who IMO is worth aout £15 million tops is just pointless abuse of money. Im a Chelsea fan (Have been for bout 7 or 8 years before the Roman money started in case your wondering) an would rather we strengthed our forwards which I would say is our weakest link this season.

the MLS All-Star/Fulham match today was better than I expected. It's sad that it wasn't just a MLS team, and not all the stars of the league, that could net a 4-1 win against a Premiership team. I know Fulham had a less than desirable year this past season, but it's still a quality win for the MLS. Anyone else watch?

Yeah, the defence is a shambles, we should have went for Dellas there might still be hope for him, although i heard Anderlecht were favourites for him. Also Chinese captain Du Wei is on trial, he was supposed to arrive on sunday.Balde also may be off to Marseille now!! Can't wait for Virgo and big Kennedy to get back.

yeah, good chance he'll go there although that won't make him very popular among Liverpool supporters.

i've absolutely no idea what to think about the coming season. i've not seen much to be optimistic about thus far. if we landed a decent, respected, striker i'd be a lot happier instead of going for the average journeymen we've been bidding on. allegedly.
