Yeah, they are.
Another really good result for us today...I still think we could overhaul Arsenal if we start winning, although obviously it's in their hands. Ferguson's called everyone back for pre-season training earlier than normal (as if in June) so I get the feeling that he wants his last season, which I think will be the next one, to be as good as it possibly can be. He'll definitely want to avoid a qualifier anyway, as they always seem to be difficult. Over the close season we really need to focus on getting a new goalkeeper (#1 priority) as well as trying to overhaul the midfield a bit. Our goalscoring problems this year can generally be traced back to a lack of creativity from there, and Keane Giggs and Scholes aren't getting any younger.
mmm... we need a new keeper- cassilas for preference
and a new attacking midfielder-aimar looks ready to leave valencia,
rosicky from dortmund, van der vaart at ajax-
the list of world class players that united could easily afford is endless
but there is only one wayne rooney...

Ferguson Hints At Referee Conspiracy (http://www.rte.ie/sport/2005/0425/manunited.html)
Oh, the irony.
Soccer AM pointed out the conspiracy behind their defeat to Everton. Before the goal, they were using the multi ball system (throwing in other balls when one went out of play). Soon as Everton scored, they stopped this and switched to just the one. they even showed a man going round collecting all the spare balls

Its weird really that West Brom haven't done as well with players like Earnshaw, Horsfield and Campbell compared to some of the other teams down there. Crouch and Phillips look on brilliant form as well but don't seem able to save Southampton.

Exactly how I feel.
Though, part of me doesn't want Liverpool to win, because of the nightmare it'd cause with the FA and UEFA. They can't keep Everton out of the Champs League again, ESPECIALLY to make way for their bitterest rivals. Aside from the moral dilemma, it'd raise tensions between the two sets of fans to boiling point, which we really don't need right now.

transfer news:
Inter looks interested in Vincent Kompany and Christian Wilhelmsson or anderlecht, Stefano Fiore and Marco DiVaio of Valencia... and just might lure Ronaldinho or another high-profile midfielder. And despite Chelsea's growing interest in Brazilian superstar Adriano, Inter are not selling him and Adriano calls Inter his second home. Adriano's transfer value could however cover all of inter's projected acquisitions for the summer.
Werder bremen have picked up german youngster Tim Wiese from 1. FC Kaiserslautern on a free transfer, Jurica Vranjes from VfB Stuttgart (free transfer), German international Patrick Owomoyela (2.000.000), Leon Andreasen from denmark, and are interested in Bolo Zenden of middlesboro. These acquisitions make up for the losses of Fabian Ernst, canadian Paul Stalteri, and Mladen Krstajic. As Werder qualify for European competition, big revenue is flowing through the doors allowing the purchase of high-profile players to essentially make the club more competitive.

I agree.
I don't get why Liverpool are good in CL, but under perfrom in the league.
The fact they've been massive underdogs against Juve and Chelski has had a lot to do with it.
A lot of it also has to do with the nature of knockout comps compared to leagues. In the CL the pressure on each game is much greater because you have much less time to remedy a slip-up and even great players and teams are affected by pressure.
Mostly though it is the fact that you only have to do well in 6 games to get from the round of 16 to the final but to be in contention for the premiership you need to do well in at least 30. An inconsistent and flaky side with a few classy players and a shitload of luck can ride into CL glory but in the league the frailties are exposed to a much harsher glare.
