Well, if saints don't get a result tommorow then i'll start thinking twice about staying up. It's a shame that WBA didn't draw with Norwhich becuase then the result tommorow would have been slightly less important.

Andy Reid hit the bar in the second half but other than that i know not how they performed.
England squad has been announced, Stu Downing and Andy Johnson have both been called up for the first time. It'll be interesting to see if Andy Johnson will become the new Micheal Ricketts one cap wonder or not...

Why do Saints concede in the last 2 minutes? I worked out that if saints hadn't conceded in the last 2 minutes of the games this season they would have an extra 7 points. On the positive side though, Camara was amazing and i almost got the score and the scorers right :)

we'd just won 1-0 at Leeds and before the match Fungusen had suggested that Leeds would lie down and let us win as they hate ManU (nothing new there anyway), as it transpired it was a belter of a match and we just got the win. Keegan was still worked up in the post match interview and let fly at what Fungusen has said, and rightly so. He just went a bit over the top, if he'd done it in the sly and sneaky fashion that other nameless managers would have done he would have got away with it, as it was he just got over emotional. hence all the parodies that ensued afterwards.

When you say "a bit over the top", he did look ever so slightly deranged...I love Kevin Keegan though. Especially as he always tries to play the game in an entertaining way, which is great for the neutral fan to watch, and he comes across as a really quality guy as well. If he really does retire at the end of next season, it's going to be a sad day. :(

I'm not a fan of Kevin Keegan at all. But that's maybe because he played for Liverpool and he's the City manager now...

Sven says he's definitely giving Downing and Johnson a chance, but I doubt they'll last because all he cares about is reputation and not actual ability. That's why Owen and Beckham have always been in the starting line-up.

Alan Thompson was not 20 years old when he made that appearance.

Fair point, but he still could've been given more of a chance. The players pretty much have to either play for one of the big 3 or have a blinder on their debut for Sven to give them any sort of a chance.

woodsinho
02-09-2005, 10:50 AM
Spurs aren't one of the big 3 and they have King, Robinson and Defoe there. The other two goalkeepers are from Man City and Norwich.
Matthew Upson: Birmingham
Jenas, Dyer: Newcastle
Shaun Wright-Phillips: Man City

It would appear that i disagree with you here. These players are not here as a one off and none of them had particularly massive debuts.

Of course the top teams are going to have a larger representation of players at the national level because they generally have the best players from the country playing for them. That's the very reason that they are at the top.

jaymz_is_god
02-09-2005, 11:04 AM
They may not be one-offs but none of them have really established a starting role (except Robinson, but there aren't many good English keepers about at the minute). These players are all fringe players in the England squad and are drafted in when there are injuries or suspensions. I just think Sven has a team in his head and is hesistant to give new players a decent chance.

I'm not English but I would like to see Sven give more players a chance. There are a few young players about that could become great players for England, but I can't see them getting a chance to prove themselves under Sven.

woodsinho
02-09-2005, 11:10 AM
The point is that for England to be successful they need a settled side so they can learn to play together as a team instead of a group of individuals and although there are young players that might do well given a chance they aren't better than the players that are regularly in the first 11.
Friendlies like this are the opportunity for these secondary guys to stake a claim at one of these positions and the current squad shows that Sven is giving these players the chance they deserve.
Nevertheless I think that Sven knows his strongest team and most of the time he's spot on with it.

The friendlies are pointless, as Sven either takes no risks, or experiments, having never practiced the experiment before, and then writes it off as a failure, when, surprise surprise, it doesn't work. Honestly, I've given him a huge chance, but I'm starting to come round to the school of thought that he's the most overrated, absolutely overpaid manager in the world today. England seem to be stuck in a rut of beating teams who quite frankly aren't much good, and then failing against decent opposition.

Malcolm Christie has not had the best of luck with injuries. I hate to see any player get an injury, recover and then get injured again. It must be frustrating. Hope he can stay injury-free after he recovers from this one.

I feel sorry for him to, and its a shame cos i reckon he's a good player

No, I don't live in Manchester. I live in Northern Ireland, so I can't really support my local team in the Premiership. The only reason I support United is because my brother did when I started getting into football. There's a pretty big United fanbase here. I'm not sure about Manchester. I know most people from around the Salford area are United fans. Other than that I don't know.

No, we are not gonna benefit from him. He is a cunt of the highest degree. He bought the Tampa Bay Buccanneers(sp?) in the NFL, and he changed pretty much everything. He went through numerous head coaches, changed the kit colour and other things I can't remember. What was Macca doing missing from 3 yards? my mum can score that and she had surgery on her knee's

I bet she wouldn't. To be fair it was a good chance, but hard given the pace of the ball, and amount of time he had to get something on it. He just wasn't quick enough to get his body around it sadly, and had it gone in it would of been a different story completely. Bad luck to Richard Dunne though. Personally I would of given them both own goals as the first seemed to be going towards David James, so it was a rather influential deflection. The second was a great finish that any striker would of been proud of.

I haven't spoken on here for a while due to pressured work situations, but I haven't lost touch with my team Arsenal, of whom I have seen 4 times this season, and we have taken only 3 points from those 4 matches. 3 home games against West Brom, Southampton and Man City, all ending draws and then the match at Anfield where we were robbed by a Mellor wonderstrike in the last seconds. After a great start to the season we have crumbled. The pressure of unbeaten games was not with us until Old Trafford, and since then we have been awful. We seem to lack confidence and the ability to flow the ball as we use to. Also it seems that oppositions have read our style, and now know how to cope or even exert pressure on us, as Bolton did suprisingly, and we have lost too many matches, dropped too many points, and Chelsea have been laughing at our misfortunes. However, although Chelsea sit 9 points comfortably ahead, I remain optimistic that we will gain something from this season, maybe most promisingly European glory which we have yet to found in reason years. Also I am proud of Henry's loyalty to the club, which is helpful in this current time and is a better example than that of Ashley Cole, who is seemingly leaving Arsenal.

The European squad is captained by AC Milan's Andriy Shevchenko, and managed by Marcello Lippi and Arsene Wenger, and will feature the likes of David Beckham, Steven Gerrard, Zinedine Zidane and Roberto Baggio, while the World XI is no less talented. How did all that Wrexham trouble start? Why are they so poor?

They were taken over by Alex Hamilton a Manchester based property developer who's only aim from the start was to liquidise to club and maximise the assests (The Racecourse, Colliers Park Training Ground and Stansty Park), bills were unpaid on purpose so the only way for the club to try to survive in the short term was to go into administration (no other option, otherwise everything would have gone **** up), there has been talk of a certain Andy Smith taking over this week but that also seems to have gone **** up according to some reports, therefore we get evicted from THe Racecourse on July 22, even if the club survives we get kicked out of the football league because we have no ground .

:p I have a feeling he's gonna be a good player for Celtic... wasn't much of a goalscorer for Newcastle... he was a pacey bugger though. Then again, so was Henri Camara, and he was pish for Celtic. (but he's good enough for Southampton)

He did score goals http://www.nufc.com/html/fixtures.html

look at the goalscorers on there, he was scoring every three games for most of the time we had him. And that was from playing on the right for about 90% of the time as well, not upfront where he could have got more.

Is the Old Firm game on TV, what channel and day?

Better not be Sunday because I'm pretty sure I'm going to the Newcastle game (depends on whether my mates can scrape some money together or not)

that's quite good timing. i fly into italy in good time for me to drop my bags off and be in the pubs for about midday. i'm going to be wankered by the time the Toon match comes on.

Hmm, I would actually give up going to the Toon game, just to see Bellamy make his Celtic debut playing against Rangers. We have Setanta, we just need to pay like £6 for the game I think. And the Newcastle game's on TV afterwards.

It's a difficult decision though, I love going to Toon games

Get in, my mates just rang, he's booking the five a side court down the local sports center for tomorrow evening. Should be class, good game of 5 a side, then come home an watch the Newcastle UEFA Cup game on tv. Anyone here play five-a-side regularly, I want to get a team going but there isn't any youth leagues round my area apart from eleven a side.

I used to play quite often, but then i got lazy and the other people decided to play at like 10pm, which is a bit stupid.

I play for a team with some of my mates in a uni intramural league thing. Representing the physics department at leeds university, we suck so much :D
I want to play more 11 a side though, maybe one day i'll find a pub team to play for, that'd be pretty cool.

I play in school once a week, and the odd time we get a couple of teams together and play outside school. I play 5-a-side sometimes on a Sunday. Basically when I can be arsed.

I don't want them to either. I like Iain Dowie. That's maybe because I'm from Northern Ireland though. 3 from the bottom 4 will go down. I like Palace more than any of the rest of them, so I hope they stay up.

Iain Dowie has done really well at Palace so it would be good if they stayed up coz they challenge teams quite well...(sometimes, lets forget the arsenal game!).

Werent Palace like 12th in the old 1st division when he came? and now theyre in the premiership.

I use to every week when I was at school. We had competitons with other houses in school and then once I left I played every week in the Leavers v Teachers game. It's great fun, but it gets you knackered very quickly!

I'm thinkin slide tackles on teachers you hate.

mr snrub
02-16-2005, 04:33 PM
I'm thinking that would hurt. But yeah, with the teachers v ex-pupils game there was no ref, so no rules really. For the first few weeks we use to win it every time, because we had a Norwich Youth player in our team, so the teachers got annoyed and made it mixed teams after that so it was more even. Great fun though. Now that I live in London I get nothing like that anymore, which is rubbish. All I've got locally is an old gym and a disgusting swimming pool.

jcxstargazer
02-16-2005, 04:38 PM
Oh yes, same feeling. I dare not go in the swimming pool in fear of disease, and the gym is in the sports hall upstairs which is ready to collapse. When I play football with friends we always try and get onto the astroturf because the grass pitch is full of pot holes, bear traps, the usual.

Not sure either.

No really I think it ruins football when one man can turn a clubs profit around like that in one season. And their playing as well, after all would Chelsea be top of the table and going for the quad without Abramovich providing the money for players. I don't think so

metal-militia
02-17-2005, 07:09 AM
Thats what I hate about Chelsea. Any rich bloke can walk into a club and give then vast amounts of money, and 9 times out of 10 they will win something. If Chelsea didn't have the money they'd go back to being a Uefa cup team. I saw on sky sports news this morning that the Italians clubs get loads of money from the TV deals, which is probably why they are so high up.

Income has nothing to do with Roman's cash. His money is capital investment. This comes down to greater merchandise, sponsorship and performance in the league and in Europe.

Chelsea actually lost money last year. No profit at all.
