:upset: Well this is a belated review since I just joined nad have since sold both my orange county kit's in favor of dw and tama. But I received the 4 pc black wrap finish kit about a year ago .Upon first look I noticed ALOT of dings and scratches on the lugs the finish was quite dull and appeared to look like a paint job that was just compounded and not buffed out to a high gloss with a finishing glaze .The floor tom legs were not even (two were closer together) .But I will say this I am very happy with the snare I purchased 20 ply 2" vents 6x14 white with candy blue hardware and the bass drum had a very sweet sound 20x22 .but other than that after three months of waiting and anticipating I was very dissapointed with the fit and finish of the drums.Maybe I am too critical but I payed $3000.00 for a wrap finished kit I would think it would be a thing of beauty .I have since purchased A dw collecters series kit in curly maple with amber lacquer and it is great not a flaw to be found I love it and would recommend them to any body .Also I very recently purchsed a Very strange starclassic maple with a wrap finish and brushed nickel hardware wich I thought did not even exist and love it this is the fourth dw (others were satin oil ) and third Starclassic the starclassic maple series are meticulously built and if you are a perfectionist they are the drums for you .I don't meen to bash ocdp but I think they are rushing production when it comes to orders from JOe Shmoe guy"s I think a couple of years down the road they will attain the quality level that is well above what they are producing now.If Travis Barker or some other endorsee got they" re drums in this condition I am sure Dan Jenesn would have someones balls!!!

I don't meen to bash ocdp but....
i dont see a problem with it :)
anyways, good review....nice to see that OC f--ks up, because they overcharge for everything....and now seems to let shoddy work slip though.
glad you enjoy the DW more though....its a better kit too :thumb:

if you want OCDP drums, look at companys like Conaway and Riolo. they use the same maple shells that OC uses, and charges 1/4 the price.
for that 4pc that was $3000, i found a kit, twice the size, quoted at under $1900. green laquer finish, brass hardware, snare vents at no extra charge.

I agree that OC's are definitely overpriced when you can easily buy a kit at the same level of quality and construction for under half the price.
Phattie Drums quoted me $500 for a 20ply 14x5" snare, with tube lugs (offset), powdercoated hardware and vents. The finish was yellow sparkle with black sparkle stars.

OCDP = WAY over priced for something of standard quality

Yeah, OCDP is way over priced for average drums. If you want something by them, you might as well just get something by SJC (sjcdrums.com). That's what I did. A lot of people have claimed they like them a lot better than Orange County. I couldn't compare seeing I have never played an OC kit, but I know SJC does take pride in what they do. My kit was the first kit that they powdercoated themselves, so it does seem a little thin on some of my lugs, but I'm sure they've got quite good at it by now. Definitely check them out.

Blah, just buy some Sonor Delites or DW's and be done with it. Buy pro level drums from companies that have been making drums for Decades, not years.....

idk, i heard their kits b4 and i love the sound of everything! And i also listened to a DW kit, and i really didnt care 4 the way it sounded. So put it 2 you this way, OCDP kit are much better than DW. but i will admit this, everyone whos been saying that OC's are overpriced, i agree with you 100%.

The best thing about OCDP honestly is their snares. They have nice distinct sound but everything else is average.

I heard the reason why OCDP's drums are so crazily overpriced is becuase its endorsed by Barker and they think they can get away with it *shrug* if you ask me its complete bull*** like many of the people said above me go with a DW... but I am sorta a Mapex fanatic tho... :thumb:

people dont buy oc for the quality primarily, its all about exclusivity. if you wanted killer tubs, you'd buy sonor : P

After comarping conaway and OCDP, I don't see how OCDP is so big. Conaway is far superior.

OCDP has nothing special about their sound.
so, why do so many professional drummers use OC's then?

why do so many rich people drive beamers and lexus's and such?
i'd say that only the pop-punk drummers are using OCDP's... i can't see portnoy or donati getting an OCDP anytime soon.

Every concert I've been seeing on VH1 Classic lately has had DW all over them. These are guys that have been playing for years and could give a **** if someone comped them a kit just to get their brand shown. That's proof enough to me that DW has something going for them. Besides, Neil Peart uses them, that's enough for me!

so, why do so many professional drummers use OC's then?
because OCDP dump a big load of cash in front of them to endorse their product.

maybe thats why ocdp charges so much then is because they spend alot on endorsements. but consider this as well, the cost of living in california is very very high, so larger sums of money could be required for things like payments on the space or employe paychecks.
just to clarify, i think ocdp is still a pretty cool company though and id definately buy a kit if i had the money

^^^since when do californians make better kits?
I don't get why people pay the price of ocdp when they can get a kit with better edges and made from the same shells for cheaper.

for the price of an ocdp set, i'd very much rather get a DW set. at first, i was like "o wow, a lot of famous bands use OCDP drums so they must be good". but after researching and reading reviews, they aren't that great as a lot of people think. DW = #1 :D

OCDPs are great drums. I think most of you guys have been way too critical. Compare them to other top of the line drums, and it will be a battle, and after considering the price tag, yeah I'd go with DW. But if money was no option, I'd probably fly out to Cali and have OCDP make a great kit for me.
OCDPs are great, but terribly expensive.

^^You're DEAD wrong there, buddy. Pearl masterworks, Sonor designers (hell, even delites), mapex orions, etc, would BLOW them away. Better sound, quality, price, craftwork, etc.

Not at all. Designers could, yes, I'll buy those as being better. but the others, not at all.
What you have to consider is the options that are offered. With the Designers, there is no argument, they are better, but for the others, you cannot get the same sound with the same mass of options like you can from OCDP.
Seafrgoggys, how witty of you.

Again, the brilliance. Perhaps you two are not able to recognize when someone makes a joke against themself.
But hey, it's easier to attack a name then an argument, right?

There may be options on OCDP but as you've heard from an owner of an OCDP kit, the craftsmanship is shoddy. There are many many custom drum builders who blow OC out of the water. Even if money was no option i'd still have a DW custom. The sound, the craftsmanship, the looks, the wood... its all so much better.

Sound is subjective. It varies from person to person. I will like the Sound of a Masterworks while you prefer the sound of OCDPs. point taken.
However, quality is not subjective. It is a fact. You cannot argue facts. OCDP uses Keller shells for their drums. While Keller is standard, and of reasonable quality, Masterworks shells blow them out of the water. They are better made. Same goes for DW shells.

if you want custom drums: C&C
i've heard them played live, they sound amazing! theyre a lot less expensive than OCDP, and probably sound way better.
I e-mailed C&C Custom Drums to get a price on the set up I'm looking for, and it was 1500...not bad at all seeing as I can go in my local guitar center and get a kick for 800-1300 (and 1500 was for a set that i described in detail)
However, i am enjoying my Pork Pie snare drum (clear acryllic w/ black hardware)...got it for 200 when the set price is 580 (i love guitar center sales :))
