Well my friend said that some kid stole merch, and FSU/DFT beat the **** out of the kid in the street. Like threw bikes and stuff on him. Sweet... there's a kid from NJ on the Thrice boards who is also coming.

I have no idea what the ticket situation is-- I know the family that owns CB's so I don't need to buy tickets... that or radiotakeover will hook me up.

I think there's a link for tickets in general on CB's website... see if they are there.

01-24-2005, 03:03 PM
Before I get started with this, I have a few statements to make. Yes, I am new at this forum and no I did not read all of this thread, so someone may have posted this already. Why does anyone care about these subcategories? Are you not going to listen to something just because it's hardcore and your a metalcore fan? I am seriously not trying to offend anybody here. I would really like to know. To me, each of these bands belongs in a category I like to call music. If you like it, cool. If not, oh well. I have never been into subdividing these groups into these technical categories. I still see it as all being rock, whether it is metal, nu-metal, hardcore, or post-harcore-grinding-metal-surfer-jazz-fusion-c*ck-rockin-country.

BuddyBigsby
01-24-2005, 03:09 PM
Yeah, listen to some of those bands and you'll actually understand why you can't just call it all 'music'.

toolfan462
01-24-2005, 03:14 PM
Actually, you could call it all music. Music is personal preference. While I do not consider rap music, many people (and God bless those challenged souls j/k) consider that to be music. I listen to everything from KsE to The Used to Lamb of God to Nailbomb to Tool to Steve Vai to Chemical Brothers to DJ Tiesto to Mozart to Eric Clapton (I think you get it). Im just wondering why so many people think that grouping one of their favorite bands into the "wrong" category offends them so much. And by the way, thanks for not throwing a sh*t fit about my post.

BuddyBigsby
01-24-2005, 03:20 PM
If you're referring to us getting pissy in this thread, it's because hardcore is more than just a genre of music. It's a subculture with it's own set of ethics and beliefs, and something a lot of kids hold dear to their hearts. So when someone calls a very obviously un-hardcore band like Killswitch Engage hardcore, yeah, they get offended. It's not that there's anything wrong with that band, but they simply are not hardcore.

The other problem is that the difference between hardcore and 'metalcore' is really so vast that calling say Lamb of God or Atreyu hardcore (which I've seen many times on this board) is nearly the equivalent of calling Dream Theater punk rock.

toolfan462
01-24-2005, 03:26 PM
I can see your point. I believe that music is the number one way of life for me right now. But Im not going to get mad at someone because they said Hatebreed was hardcore when they are actually metalcore, or vice versa. I guess Im too simple of a person. I just believe that if you put restraints on yourself such as categories, then you will not be able to grow as a musician or a music lover. And again, thanks for all of the feedback.

P.S. What would you consider Lamb Of God and Killswitch Engage?

Black pageninetynine shirt (but its too blurry to read the band name or even see the picture), theres a small white logo on the back of the shirt near the neck, and the front of the shirt just looks like a big white square. Also:

- Morning Again guy whose name I forget sang on some of the demos which are on the retrospective

- Chad sang on Hearts Once Nourished...

I'll go with you Cb!

*hops on the Buddycopter*

I gave my parents this epic speech today about how I need to go.

"This show was made just for me. The pinnacle of my life is right in front of me and I'm reaching out to grab it but I can't."

Then came the crying, etc.

Hahaha, you cried for it? So what'd they say?

My dad would maybe let me go cause he would to Chinatown or some ****. But I don't think my mom is down with it.

I remember those days. Being 18 and having a license and a job rules.

Having a license to my mom still means I need permission to ask to go places. The price I pay for her covering my gas expenses.

Hasn't this thread taught you anything? Real men steal their own cars.

this has probly been answered already but i dont feel like going thru 300 pages. whats a breakdown? i hear some of my friends saying they only go in the pit during the breakdown....

The breakdown of a song tends to be a part where all of the instruments slow down and play some sort of repeating riff. In hardcore, it's not that obvious to tell when the breakdown is, but in metalcore, it's quite obvious. Everything dramatically slows down and you get this dun dun dun dun (or jud jud jud--whichever you prefer) sound from the guitars... usually it goes into a neener neener after...

during most breakdowns you can find yourself nodding your head as if you were listening to hip hop.

that's probably not that great of an answer, but listen to "Red Wedding" by the Bled for an example of a breakdown in metalcore... listen to "all in a year" or "changing face" by Comeback Kid for an example of a breakdown in hardcore.

Confusing to play.

Copy it to notepad, it'll look simpler. The tunings a bit of a bitch, but just try it in Drop D to see how it sounds.

I've figured out the whole thing... the intro is all octaves...

You mute that string but hit the A and the G string.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that's right, the verse is easy to figure, just some fast progressions.

REINER

If I read that correctly, I play it a little differently. I have that much done, to lazy to do the rest.

The first chords before the open ones I don't play octaves, just after it. Give a minute and I'll do my verison.

Play the 5x7 0000 part twice.

REINER

Haha, I hate having to tune half step down. I don't like doing it. I can deal with Drop C, but not half step down.

Drop C is harder though?
